As the foul Tulvatha disintegrates, Pimwrick kisses his bow and says, "Thank you, Old Deadeye, for helping me aim true!" He joins his friends on the rather strange journey to Heidmarch Manor, as each of them feels the otherworldly blessing of Ashava fade away.

Back at the manor, Pim offers Erastil's blessing to the relieved yamah, "Erastil protects those who seek to make community in the wilderness, just as you hope to rebuild a home in the glade made wild and dangerous by Tulvatha. I will think of you and ask his blessing as you rebuild."

As he turns away, he says quietly to himself, "And now...time for a nap!"

Pim takes another couple of steps to his right, calling out as he moves, "Hey Pau, you mind stepping out of my shot?" Rather than fire blindly, he draws back his bow and waits, ready to let fly as soon as his wicked target is visible again!

As the vision fades, Pimwrick can be seen crouching on the ground, his shoulder braced against some imaginary object, his features straining with effort, as he mutters in despair, ”I’ll never get this cursed stone to the top!“ He stands abruptly, nearly falling over as his unseen burden vanishes, and says, ”Oh, thanks to all that’s holy that wasn’t real!“

He looks around to see his companions in a similar state, breathes a sigh of relief, and joins them in moving away from the site of such nightmarish visions. Unfortunately, Tulvatha’s field is nearly as grim.

”You’re a cheery one, aren’t you?“ Pim says to the grim floating skull, slipping his wand from his pocket as he speaks. ”I think we’ll just get this place back to being a dance floor, instead of a ‘field of death’ or whatever other nice names you have for it.“

Getting out wand of bless weapon.

Sorry, limited time to post this week, I'm on a work/family trip that is keeping me busier than expected.

"Ugh!" Pim exclaims. "Toil! Serve! That's what I'm afraid of! I know I have a duty to Erastil, to my community and my family, but a guy's gotta get a break sometimes, right? I work and work and never get to just relax, and I fear that will be my fate forever!"

Looking around at his companions, his face tinged a bit pink with embarrassment, he adds quietly, "Not as profound as what you all shared, but it's honest."

Pim is definitely being honest. His lazy streak runs deep and wide and he fears never getting to enjoy it.

”Wow! That was...definitive,“ Pim remarks after Kord’s instantaneous defeat of Riverfang. ”I’m sorry your pack had to suffer under him as a leader, Windcaller, and I am glad we could do something to help change that.“

Silver Crusade

Halfling Paladin 4 | HP 33/33 | AC 21 | T 16 | FF 16 | CMD 20| Fort +10 | Ref +10 | Will +8 (immune disease, fear) | Init +5 | Perc +3

To be clear (because it seems I wasn't), I was not advocating a group attack, I was trying to ask Windcaller to clarify the terms, which she did. I only suggested that Brak not fight alone because attacking Riverfang as a group was one of the options the DM gave us in OOC text. Pim would not support attacking as a group, now that he understands that such an approach conflicts with the traditions and rules of how the pack decides on a leader.

"Now that I understand better, I agree with Kavor," Pim weighs in. "I'm sorry for any confusion I've caused, but if the rules of the pack are that the leader must be faced in single combat, then that is what we must do. Kavor also makes some important points, about Brak's strength and Kord's bravery, and I do not know which of them is the better choice - I only wish that I were."

Considering a moment, he asks Windcaller another question, "Is this a fight to the death? Or just until one of the combatants yields or is defeated?"

We are not a very skilled party, so I think the fight is the way to go. I think Kord and Brak should decide between them, as they both bring things of value to the fight. On balance, I think Kord is probably the better bet, since with Smite he will have good damage and better AC (though far fewer HP), and is immune to the paralysis. Brak hits hard and has more HP, but his low Will save could end the fight very quickly.

"Why would we send one of us to fight Riverfang, when we could all work together against him?" Pimwrick asks. "Windcaller, you seem to have good intent here, is there a reason we cannot all join the fight to defeat this foul leader? Would the pack not accept your leadership if Riverfang were ousted this way?" As the party continues to discuss their plan, Pim focuses on Riverfang, attempting to probe his soul.

DM - I'd like to use Detect Evil on Riverfang. If you tend to play that ability that it's like casting a spell and could be seen as an offensive action, then I'll hold off on it.

Fellow Pathfinders - on the idea of a one-on-one fight - as strong as Brak is, I don't see why we wouldn't all fight Riverfang if that's an option.

Kavor Doan wrote:
One of the paladins can use the scroll of Remove Blindness with a CL6 check. Or Kavor Doan could try Dispel Magic.

The first step to using a scroll is being able to decipher the writing, which takes read magic or a CL 25 Spellcraft check, and Pim can't do either. But if Chadius is going to allow the fairy to dismiss both spells for the sake of enjoyment of play, I guess it's kind of moot. I sure wish I had thought to check on whether blindness was dismissable years ago when I played Midnight Mirror with my -1 character. Spent a lot of time blind...

As much as he hates for the nasty thing to go free, Pim does feel that Kord implied he'd set the fairy free. "All Kord said was that he'd get to keep his wings," he weighs in, "but it sounded to me like he didn't mean he'd kill him with his wings on. I agree with Kavor, we must free him, as he held up his end of the bargain and our friends can now see."

Once the fairies are properly bound, Pim draws a healing wand. He thinks back on the chaos of the fight and asks his companions, "I think the green one blinded one of these guys, and I guess that has to be the one that dismisses the spell, right?"

He then heals the green fairy, weighing in when Kord threatens to smash the fairy if he doesn't dismiss the blindness effect.

I don't remember us finding a scroll of remove blindness/deafness, did we?

"Um, scroll?" Pim asks Zephyr. "Never used one of those, not sure I'd know how to read it. And I guess Kord can't do it if he's blind. But I definitely agree with the notion that Brak just smacked some fey as-, er, I mean, butt."

I have neither Spellcraft or read magic, so I can't even read the scroll to activate it.

Kord - Scent lets you "pinpoint the area that the source occupies, even if it cannot be seen," so you know the square it's in, but you still can't see it if you're blind. This gives it total concealment, so there's still a 50% miss chance.

Good thinking, Kavor, changing into wolf form for the chase. I would have +4 rather than -2 on all my rolls - and I still would not have succeeded at any of them. And I can't help but notice that you, at the high end of this scenario's level range and with the movement bonus, and an average roll of 13 on your dice, still only succeeded at a single check.

Forgive me if this comes across as whining, but these DC's seem off to me, unless I'm missing some aspect of the mechanic.

Great, then I'll take all the special arrows, if no one minds.

Once Theodorus is sent on his way, Pimwrick follows Pau's example and transforms himself into a somewhat short wolf-man. "Wow, this is...interesting," he remarks. "I had feared Erastil might frown upon my taking on a wolf aspect, as the creatures can pick off the weakest members of a community - but it feels as if it's right to be a wolf, since they form communities themselves. We're in a pack together, everyone!"

Those are the hardest DC's I have ever seen in a chase. Are they even right? Even a melee character with a 20 Str would only succeed at a DC 24 Str check 10% of the time, and many of these are similarly challenging.

"Breakfast...at sunrise?" Pimwrick grumbles as he makes his way through the halls of Heidmarch Manor to the Venture-Captain's office. "I might as well have stayed on the farm and had my mother boot me awake to get to the chores..." His grumbling eases some when he sees the repast laid out before them, and he positions his face over the platter of mackerel and sniffs the air repeatedly, barely paying any attention to what Sheila has to say at first. He's a bit confused when she thanks the party for joining her for luncheon at this hour, but he happily tucks into the meal, eventually turning his attention to what is being said.

"I'm a bit puzzled," he offers when Heidmarch's briefing is complete, "and I clearly don't know much about Will o' the Wisps. Why do we need to change into werewolves to fight this thing?"

Chadius - I just reviewed my chronicles and discovered I had forgotten to record the prestige earned in my last scenario (in fact, in Hero Lab I had put the number 2 in the little box for prestige in my journal, but had not pushed the 'Earn' button to record it). So now I have enough fame to buy a Dex Belt, so I'll do that and update my character info today.

In total, I'm buying a belt of incredible dexterity +2, selling my masterwork chain shirt and buying a mithral shirt, and buying a cloak of resistance +1. Had a good deal more cash than I realized, since I never shopped after my last scenario and I played up in this one.

Pimwrick is finally glad for a break from all this running around from one monument to the next - when is a fellow supposed to rest? He spends a day or so wandering around Magnimar, knowing he's got a week ahead of him before he's called back to duty, and that he'll have to work at night when the week ends! Once he's satisfied that he's wandered enough, and not missed any promising spots, he returns to a sweet little park he noticed in the Ordellia district, where the city wall meets the Yondabakari River. There's a particularly promising tree there, which promises shade through much of the day, with a view of the river and the harbor beyond. Pim settles down on a patch of grass under the tree's canopy, leans against the trunk and sighs contentedly. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his beloved harmonica, saying quietly to himself, "Time to relax a bit, and then put in some serious practice on this thing. It did not sound good the last couple of times I tried to play it."

As he gazes over the water in quiet contemplation, his harmonica tumbles to the grass at his side, his eyes close, and he dreams of mastering the instrument one day.

”Well, I think I might have a use for this again,“ Pimwrick observes as he taps his bow with his wand before tucking the wand back into his belt pouch.

Bless weapon on wand, put wand away.

Concerned by the look on Ordellia's face, and the troublesome spirits they've run into so far, Pimwrick draws his Erastil-blessed wand again and slips his bow off his shoulder. He then follows Kord into the house, making a bit less racket than the burly, shouting half-orc.

Wand of bless weapon in hand, in we go!

Kord - you can make a Diplomacy check to help with sanctifying the monument.

And while we’re on the subject of rolls, Pau has a chance at that Perception check, where some of us paladin types don’t.

Pimwrick checks to make sure no part of himself is still on fire, then draws a healing wand to restore some of the damage he has suffered.

Feeling much better, Pimw returns to stand next to the Founder's Flame, attempting to soothe its torment by reminding it of the calming effects of Erastil's holy energy, which he so recently shared with the monument.

Pimwrick dodges the full force of the astonishingly powerful fireball, though it still leaves him barely on his feet. He raises his bow and takes two quick shots, then lays a hand on his chest and calls on Erastil to heal at least some of his stinging, fiery wounds.

Full attack drake. If it doesn't fall, will Lay on Hands as a swift action.

Very pleased with the results of his application of Erastil's holy blessing, Pimwrick turns just in time to see another wall of drake fire roaring at him! He ducks to his right, dodging some of the fire, then uses his momentum to carry himself a bit further away, slipping his bow from his shoulder as he moves. Planting his feet, he aims at the flying drake and lets fly an arrow!

Pim manages to dodge much of the drake's fiery breath, though he still gets a bit singed. Following Zephyr's guidance, Pim using his renewed magical speed to hustle over next to the flame and touch it with Erastil's holy blessing!

"Hmm, don't feel like I did much there, but thanks for saying so," Pim says in response to the Pharasmins. A wide grin crosses his face as they are gifted with various magical items for their efforts, though it fades a bit as he wonders quietly, "Does she think we're going to need this stuff? Uh-oh..."

"Brak, just think of it as scrubbing the spirits with a kind of...um, soul soap," Pimwrick offers, before continuing the awkward metaphor. "You just need to be sure to wash behind their ears and...you know what? Never mind."

He turns his attention to the sanctification ritual, still feeling a bit awkward as he attempts to speak in soothing tones in the direction of the strange beacon.

Pim shifts his aim to the morgh, but the long-tongued horror releases Pau, moves away and lies down, all in accordance with Kavor's commands! Lowering his bow an inch or so, he asks the dwarf, "Uh, what now? Seems we should still kill it, right? Unless you can command it to not be undead any more? I don't know much about these things."

Feeling rather cocky after his previous shot - and choosing to ignore the second speedy shot which went far wide - Pim gives Kord a confident nod in return and strides forward to get an angle on the morgh. Nocking an arrow and drawing back, he takes aim over Pau's grappled shoulder and lets fly! His shot is a poor one, however, and he glances around in the vain hope that no one has noticed.

@Pim, isn't Smite 2 points per level on the first successful attack against an undead? I think you did 48 damage.

Indeed it is, Kavor! Thanks for the reminder, which I saw just in time for me to edit my post and correct the damage.
