I apologize. Today was a busy day, and I am tired now. Probably won't make a submission.

hmmm... California time!

Just came across this thread. My favorite PC of all time was a Kalashtar Psion. I would like to make another if Psionics are allowed. Of course, he will be different -- Pathfinder half-gestalt rather than D&D 3.5!

Is this game online or PbP? As this is - coincidentally - the last day to submit, I need to create my character before reading the entire thread! :(

Wish me luck, please!

I vote for the 6:30 start, but 7:00 is also good.

work in progress: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=247624
Melee won out over ranged.

I am looking at the Giantslayer player's guide, and am thinking that my mother was raped when giants came down from the mountains and raided her settlement. One option is that she died giving birth to a half-giant, making me an orphan (Orphaned by Giants). Another option is that she miraculously lived through the child-birth (Giant-Blooded, Roll With It, Student of Giantkind, or something else).

Can't decide between melee and ranged, so I am thinking both; as well as climbing, jumping, balance, etc.

Thank you for inviting me! Monday and Tuesday are both fine.

Ekeln is the nickname his slightly older sister gave him the first time she changed his diaper. It means "disgusting". It stuck until he grew out of it. He earned it again when he became a Falconer and chose to train Cinder, a carrion eating Giant Vulture. Ekeln tries to make Cinder less despicable -- if not totally acceptable -- by providing her with fresh kills instead of rotten carrion, and by using prestidigitation to clean her after she eats, and before he rides her. The very fact that he would ride a vulture makes him "Ekeln" to many, no matter how hard he works to keep Cinder clean. If Ekeln rode a Giant Eagle he would be quite charismatic, given his boyish good looks, good manners, and elven charm. Cinder negates all that.

Many elves study wizardry, and Ekeln is no exception. He specializes in the Foresight school of Divination, and normally has Detect Magic, Read Magic, Comprehend Languages, See Invisibility, and Clairaudience / Clairvoyance ready. In addition to Divination, he has an eclectic mix of spells in his book, that he is constantly looking to add to. In combat he relies on his bow or spears, but he is more of a support caster than a direct damage dealer.

While Ekeln has all the proficiencies of a Ranger, he forgoes armor so that his spellcasting doesn't suffer. He casts mage armor when he thinks he might need it, but stays out of melee whenever possible.

Ekeln dresses in functional, easy to clean, gray leather that matches Cinder's gray plumage (if you can call a Vulture's feathers 'plumage').

hmmm... two levels of Ranger.

EDIT: I remember now, I was waiting for any responses to my questions about teamwork. Seems like there is no interest.

If others are interested in teamwork, then I will take the teamwork feat http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/lookout-combat-teamwork. It is an appropriate feat for a scout, and as a diviner I always act in the surprise round.

@Reckless: Oops!

I will probably choose Guard or Scout, unless no one else chooses Pilot. I will take cartographer unless someone else chooses Guide. I make take it anyhow.

http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=1050600 - almost finished ;(

TYPO ALERT!!!: 15 point buy? You meant 51 point buy, didn't you? ;)

(15 is just asking for another TPK)

For what it's worth:

Version v0.8 will have the rest of the mass combat rules.
Version v0.9 will have all the minor gaps filled in, and will hopefully get a bit of playtesting. I'll probably post some variant of this here for overall comments from people.
Version v1.0 will incorporate any suggestions from this thread, and will be the version I use to post the actual recruitment thread.

It has only been two months since you started this thread. You are making amazing progress! Keep up the good work, and save a seat for me ;)

Monday, 6 PM is good.

Progress is being made!

Good News :)

* Monday and Thursday are my free times.
* I like MapTools and Skype; Ventrilo not so much.
* 50-50 RP and combat is a good mix.
* Strong characters with big personalities - eh....
* The "Rule of Cool"! I like that.
* Early May! As it is already April, I can live with that.
* I know nothing about Kingmaker.

Please sign me up! My first choices would be Psion or Wizard, but my final choice will depend on the party makeup, and what I learn about Kingmaking in the Player's Guide (I assume there is one).

I did not see any other people say what race they will be using.

Please tell me if I forgot someone.

I did not pick a race yet. I am waiting for the complete ruleset.

hmmm... Is that a yes or a no?

Game tonight?

Question, will there be NPC settlements, marauding bandits, and monsters?

Another question, what character classes can our proxies take?

They were in AD&D, so sure.

I'd like to play a Psionicist from the Dark Sun setting

Normally Arthas is cut off from the rest of the multiverse, in both Planescape and Spelljammer, so while I'm not necessarily against someone from Dark Sun you'd need a backstory with some weird ass s+!& going on that explains how you got out of that particular crystal sphere. Dark Sun isn't a place you WHOOPS your way free of.

Edit: That reminds me, Spelljammer exists too. I highly doubt any Spelljamming will occur in the campaign (you never know...) but it can be part of backstories.

Don't take this as a discouragement of the idea, just pointing out what you'll need for it to fit in my fussy little faux AD&D universe.

I'd still like to play a Psion, doesn't have to be from the Dark Sun. IIRC, Psionics exists in Eberron, too. Hold while I verify...

Hmmm... A 30 second web survey suggests that Psionics exists in 3rd edition Eberron. I will have to delve deeper....

I'd like to play a Psionicist from the Dark Sun setting, but my character could be one of the wizard classes. An alternative is an Ali Baba type rogue exceptionally skilled in Use Magic Device. My PC is on a quest to learn the true name of a Djinni - any Djinni - and capture it. Of course, one can't advertise this kind of quest in a place like Sigil and expect to live very long; therefore, my PC must be a master of misdirection in regards to his purpose and motives.

I can't say exactly what drives my PC to want a Djinni; certainly not fame, fortune, or power. Not even the desire for wishes, really. You might think revenge, except he is not looking for any particular Djinni. Maybe it is an "I Dream of Genie" type fantasy.

I actually don't know much about Planescape, or Dark Sun either. I will have to read up on this faction thing, but my first guess is that my character would be too independent to form any permanent alliances. He is an opportunist, and will join any group on any mission that might lead him further along his quest.

As for alignment, he is lawful in that he holds to a mercenary code of conduct; not lawful in that local laws mean nothing when they hinder fulfillment of a contract. Should the contractor breach....

EDIT: A two minute glance at the Players Guide suggests that my PC is an Outsider.

By water, do you mean a river running along the border of the capital, a seacoast adjacent to the capital, a one-square lake, or players choice? It makes a difference. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any rivers on your example map. It is all one continent with lakes of different sizes. Is that what we should expect?

Are you using CIvilization to create the map? I have not used its mapmaker, but i believe it can be used to generate different kinds of worlds with various levels of resources.

FreeCol usea a New World / Old World paradigm with the Old World off map.

I am very much interested in playing in a game with multiple psionic characters. Usually, mine is the only one. I would probably play a psion or a wilder; or something else - who knows!

Please tell us you have enough people interested!

@Galorit, DM Nerk. Thank you!

Count me in, please!

I haven't looked at Ultimate Battle; I have looked at Ultimate Rulership. I was interested in the section about Developing Settlements. I also read the section on Founding a Kingdom.

I can post a turn per week - no problem. I have not used roll20; if it is similar to MapTools, then no problem there either.

I have several ideas for "themed" settlements. If this is "roleplay-lite", they should work well.

This is actually my first time looking at Paizo's Recruitment Forum, so I lucked up finding this. Looks like I will have to monitor this forum regularly for when you actually start recruiting. I can hardly wait!

Yes! I hope Option 5 works for them.

I just remembered another reason to like option 3. There is something else that I can do on Wednesday if we move RoW to Tuesday. If we do that, then I would vote for ToT to move to either Monday or Thursday. Wednesday would be my third place choice.

Note: If it comes down to playing one or the other, I would prefer continuing ToT over starting a new campaign (RoW).

I would also like to suggest an "Option 5"!

ToT has a Kingdom Building component which is supposed to begin shortly implemented as a play-by-post on this discussion board. Semele and Erroyl can "retire" from active (MapTools) adventuring yet be involved in the Kingdom Building (discussion posts).

We can recruit other players for (MapTools) adventuring, who may or may not be nobles involved in the Kingdom Building - their choice.

I have enjoyed Throne of Thorns up to now, and would like to keep playing it. That is option 1. I prefer option 1 over option 2. Option 4 is too indefinite for me.

I don't mind option 3 as an "ALSO". I am currently available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I don't mind moving RoW to Tuesday, and moving ToT to one of those other nights.

Here are some character concepts that I have been thinking about:

A 20 point Cleric: He is a Samsaren cleric of Iomedae who believes that he was a noble of the lost kingdom in a previous incarnation. An alternative variation is a theologian of Sarenrae (Iomedae is a good choice for a group with a Paladin, whereas Sarenrae would be better for a more relaxed group).

A 20 point Evoker While this elf has reason to believe that his ancestors were once Elven nobles from before humans arrived in the area now known as the Lost Kingdom, he is more interested in the Lost Secrets he might uncover than in regaining any claims to nobility; however, he knows that the latter might help him in his quest for the former.

A 20 point Oracle He is the half-elf bastard child of the current ruler. To an elf, a half-elf is even worse than a bastard. He has a chip on his shoulder, and a lot to prove to a lot of people - both elven and human. His secret desire is to out-live his elven detractors. That means discovering the secret to immortality or some other form of longevity.

A 20 point Sorcerer. He is a human with an arcane bloodline (I was tempted to give him the Destined bloodline, but I resisted). He is here for the adventure and the challenge.

A 20 point Master Summoner This is an alternative version of the half-elf bastard. This is his pet Eidolon.

I still need to finalize equipment and spell choices, as well as the character background stuff that Reckless recommended. I was kind of waiting until I narrowed my options down to one or two. They are listed in alphabetical order because I have no preference at the moment (if you believe that, then you might wonder why I made a wizard).

D'oh! I composed a post yesterday, and neglected to use the Submit Post button. Now I am not sure if I remember everything. Here goes:

I said that I have no burning desire to play the ruler. That being said, I find that the fluff of the "Noble Blood-Ignoble Birth" trait is a great fit for my character concept of a Half-Elf in a Human kingdom. The benefit of that trait only helps a ruler. On the other hand, I can make Touched by Fate, Lineage of the Ancients, or Kingsaver work. I don't really need to play Jon Snow. So speak up if you want to be the ruler!

Edit: If I give my Oracle the Lame curse, then I can play Bran Stark instead (I read that book over fifteen years ago. I think Bran was lame, but I am not sure anymore.)

Oh yeah, I made an Oracle, and am surprised at how it turned out. I also made a Sorcerer, and am a little disappointed with him. I plan to cover all the bases and make a cleric and a wizard, too.

Twenty build points is better than fifteen, but it is not mythic :(

Edit: I just figured out what happened yesterday. I clicked the Preview button.

A couple people asked that the party have a healer this time, so I am considering a Cleric/Oracle in addition to my usual Sorcerer/Wizard. Then Reckless confused the issue by mentioning Psionics!

If someone else wants to be the healer, please be he healer! That will let me explore other possibilities .... On the other hand, considering the fate of the Falcon's Hollow, one healer type may not be enough. If I play a divine spellcaster, I would prefer to focus on something other than healing. Having two (or more!) divine casters would lesson the need for any one charcter to be a dedicated healbot.

Then there is the Kingdom building wrinkle!

Given that I will most likely play some type of magic user, I will base my choice of preferred kingdom roles on whether i play a charisma, intelligence, or wisdom based spellcaster. I don't have any burning desire to be the ruler - or any other preferences, so I will create my PC firsst, before considering the options.

Hmm... Bards are secondary healers, as are Druids, and Paladins. More choices. I'm not sure; i think the only healing capable psionic class is the Vitalist. My first thought is that I don't want to play a Vitalist.

Dar has been updated to second level: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=427483

I noticed a couple things missing and filled them in:
I added the inherent bonus to Intelligence that offset the character flaw.
I added the arcane bond: rat familiar
I completed Dar's Spell book.
I filled in the weights for his gear.

It's a good thing that Dar has so few possessions, as he can't carry any more without slowing down. LOL!

I will play a budding illusionist this time, a child prodigy with regards to perception. I will take the Poor Upbringing ( Wealth) flaw.

http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=427483

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's a small world!

I mentioned that I had considered taking the campaign trait "Possessor of Dreggorra" before deciding that an intelligent Headband of Intelligence might be more than a bit too much. It turns out that the creaters of the Ultimate Equipment Guide do not agree. The Headband of the Sage, on page 357, is exactly that!

I think that Dreggorra would have been much more interesting than the intelligence described in the UEG -- for those that like to live in interesting times ;)

I was about to suggest that casting spells from your opposition schools could cost 2 MPP; then I realized that there is no counter-benefit for specialists.

I would agree to opposition school spells costing 2 MPP IF specialist school spells were free. Otherwise, I say let the rule stand "as is".

Disclaimer: My playtest character is a divination specialist with the wild arcana ability.

I don't want to hijack this discussion, but I feel like this is the place to suggest that some kind of mythic metamagic that can make an existing spell mythic is needed.

I don't completely understand the concern for balance, fairness, bias, etc. that permeates these forums, so I am not willing to suggest what mythic metamagic would do to a spell. I thought that those of you already inventing mythic spells must be using some guidelines on what makes a spell mythic, and might like to post those guidelines along with the spells. For extra credit, post your guidelines in the form of a mythic metamagic feat.

My thinking is that rather than raising the level of the spell, mythic metamagic would expend various amounts of mythic power points at the time of casting.

For inspiration: here is my characters currently memorized spells (D=divination school spell):

1) D:Comprehend Languages, Grease, Mage Armor, Protection from Evil, Shield, Silent Image, Unseen Servant

2) D:See Invisibility, Darkness, Extended Mage Armor, Flaming Sphere, Pyrotechnics

3) D:Clairaudience / Clairvoyance, Haste, Slow

4) D:Arcane Eye, Black Tentacles, Dimension Door

Why won't your cleric qualify for Dual Path (Mythic)? That is the best feat!

If anyone's experience includes playtest sessions involving parties with wizard archmages, I welcome any and all of playtest data that refutes my own. I'd feel much better if my results were an outlier.

I'd also be curious to hear from low-level groups whose front-liners are all non-guardians, as compared to low-level groups whose front-liners are all guardians. Can the front-liners in the non-guardian party rise to the same combat challenges as the front-liners in the all-guardian party?

I am playing a 4th tier wizard, and chose Dual Path: Guardian as his first tier feat. His Guardian's Call is Absorb Blow.

I chose Dual Focus, too. but that is now OBE. If you chose Dual Focus and need to retrain, a wizard can't go wrong with Absorb Blow.

I checked my notes.

A. Vorel does not have a ring.
B. Vorel does have the "Bracers of Arnir +4"
