![]() Ok my shit is together. In the last year I went from a modest low responsibility job - teaching - into a company where I went from the bottom right up into the executive in a year. WTF. Sorry for all the delays. Where the f%#% did Jon go? IAN!!!! He's not answering his cell phone. Looking for my stats on the remaining pirates...Book where the f$~# are you? <sifts through a pile of fashion contacts from France.> ![]()

![]() DMPC Pulsifer: Pulsifer hits Righty again with the magic missiles. 2d6+2=7 Righty goes down twitching with Jon's slash spurting and Mr Eldritch's smoking signature fried into his chest. Hagnoose, rattled by the gouts of blood spurting from the artery Cordoba flicked open and the bear slashing at his flank, swings at Hoktsu again: 1d20+5=15, 1d12+3=4. Hitting but leaving only an insignificant gash in the quick gnome's left arm. Fear is in his eyes. Zahn pulls a feather from a pouch, points it at Thel, and begins incanting, "informis risus humor"... cast defensively: 1d20+10=15 fails. Behind the bar, the ogre twitches and sweats... for a moment it stands quiet, then roars. ![]()

Yah, that's lightning boy. Zahn cries out and pulls his arm back from the enormous beetle. DMPC Domo: Slashing down from the table top, Righty easily parries: 1d20+7=10, 1d6+1=4. DMPC Rohit: Rohit's save from the lightining bolt: Reflex: 1d20+6=23, taking only 7 hits. Rohit moves to Thel's flank and lays a hand on his shoulder. +4 hps. Thel feels a cooling tingle across his electrical burns. ![]()
![]() Round 2 Last round I posted Righty's action in the wrong order, I just added his bonus to Cordoba's roll. Doh! Everything is sorted out now, with Rad's nat 20 you guys all have init. With no enemies interrupting your init order, you can pretty much post your moves as you like. 27 The Deceiver: Init +7 (DEX 16)

![]() Syd falls to the floor bleeding and unconscious, his breath shallow. Domo dodges Righty's lunge easily. From behind the stair a man clad in leather armor and weilding an axe charges into the room and engages Hoktsu (I18). Pulsifer, Jon, and Cordoba recognize Hagnoose from their time in the slave hold of The Intractable. Hagnoose attempts to behead Hoktsu: 1d20+5=11, 1d12+3=5. The powerful blow splinters the timbers in the floor as Hoktsu steps back. The southern doors swing open, Book (U18) and Zahn (U19) stand in the opening, and everyone recognizes them from Cordoba's description. Book holds a very small crossbow in one hand and a rapier in the other. He fires a bolt at Rohit: 1d20+10=26, 1d4=2 Zahn mutters quietly and rubs his palms together, sparks jump between them as he pulls them apart forming a ball of electricity - and from the ball a bolt shoots out - coursing across the room through Rohit, Herald, Cordoba, and Jon - then out the far door. 5d6=14 Reflex saves, half damage. Rohit: Spoiler: FORT save DC 12 or sickened and 1d4 damage (PFRPG beta p401). After combat another FORT save or sickened for the whole day, and for every day after the same save and remained sickened until you make your roll. ![]()

![]() Round 1 Everyone is stunned for a few seconds by Pulsifer's outburst and attack, then again by the dagger from the drunkard in the corner... who, flicking off his hat and cloak, turns out to be Righty, Book's lieutenant. ![]() Barely an instant after Pulsifer casts a knife drives into his back, thrown it seems by the man in the corner behind him. ... equals 12 damage, and the dagger still sticking out of your back. When Vass meets your eyes, memories, for a moment, unpleasant pasts that you have set behind you begin to flit through your mind. You feel... as if weak and unsheltered – without water in the open desert. But only for a moment – then you focus on the demon – and the task at hand. A presence. You shut it out.. Pulsifer: Spoiler:
Pre-rolled 11 for perception. I guess Pulsifer has had about enough of Vass, because you totally miss what happens behind you. Lesson learned: never leave you back turned on a pirate.
After the thump it feels like an electric shock and you almost lose your grip on the staff. You feel the blood flowing down you back. Something sharp and Domo: Spoiler:
Shadows moving through the cracks under the doors. Another shadow moves behind the bar, cast by someone around the corner behind the bar. The camel brays and Buttercup begins snorting the way she does when predators are nearby. Thelonius: Spoiler:
When Vass meets your eyes, memories, unpleasant pasts that you have set behind you begin to flit through your mind and you can’t stop them. As if you’re searching your own past, yet it is not you in control. Your youth. Torments. Loss. A voice: “Your mine, little man. Mine. The sights I will show you.”
Bugs begin pouring through the cracks in the floor, onto your feet and up your legs. Gnawing at your flesh. Biting at you. 2 points non-lethal damage. Re-roll will next round. Play it as you see fit. Aref: Spoiler:
Your hear Drasheer bray. The sort of bray he makes when he’s on watch in the desert. Cordoba: Spoiler:
The man behind Pulsifer worries you, but he looks pretty wrecked. And a shadow moves behind the bar, cast by someone around the corner. Jon: Spoiler:
A shadow moves behind the bar, cast by someone around the corner, perhaps up the stairs. And the sound of boots outside. Hoktsu: Spoiler: Rolled your perception for you: 1d20+8=9… hehehe The ogre looks familiar. You swear you’ve met him somewhere before. ![]()
![]() And back a few seconds Rackham Pulsifer wrote: "I suggest that any of those who do not wish to become involved leave now. Any who do not do so may suffer grievous bodily harm. ![]() The band quickly moves into the Midget throught the front door into the main hall. A few pirates hunch over their tables some grumbling at each other, some gambling, some half conscious, but all, by and large, at the end of an all night drinking binge. Behind the bar an old ogre with an apron spits in glasses and wipes them off. All eyes turn toward you except one: a large cloaked man sitting at the bar with a cowl pulled over his head. In a voice familiar but in the wrong accent he begins: "They needed some rest. But me, I just can't f*@@ing sleep after being locked in that bottle for more than a century." Then he pulls back the cowl, turns and smiles at you. It's Syd. "I see you guys have found even more friends." Syd/Vass eyes Rohit. His eyes flash red. Thelonius and Rohit, will rolls please. "Don't trust them." ![]()
![]() Pulsifer, Cordoba, Jon: Spoiler:
In case you guys feel like explaining, these are descriptions of the pirates who survived the wreck:
Captain Gravid Book: about 6 feet tall, a little heavy, about 40 years old with reddish brown hair and last seen wearing the coat of a Chelaxian naval commander. Carries two Adamantine rapiers. Righty: 5 and a half feet, skinny, about 30 years old, and shabbily dressed. Dark haired. Missing his left eye. Said to be weak with attacks from his left side. Zahn: A little taller than Righty and a little thicker. A dark haired, pale skinned Chelaxian. The ship's wizard. Dresses in dark clothes. Hagnoose: A short, stout, jolly looking man. Wears a turban and a baggy white shirt. Kamada: Black. Shaved head. Rings in his ears. Really big. Mannick: A small wiry, dark haired northerner. Mister Yin: A white haired Tian. The elderly ship's doctor. Remember Mooj? My all time favorite NPC. Man, Cordoba sure gutted that (literal) pig f#er. For all the new guys. Jon, Pulsifer, and Cordoba were all captured (along with some others: Syd, Bhodan, Ryor, and Nerius) along the coast of Varisia and thrown in a brig with kids and young women. The mages were doped up by the ship's doctor. During a rather nasty storm, while their guard Mooj slept off the good boning he gave to the livestock hanging in slings below decks, Cordoba picked the manacles and the brig padlock using a whalebone support from a Chelaxian girl's corset. Cordoba then proceeded to cut the throat of Mooj and anyone else sleeping nearby. A fight ensued. The storm worsened. Some negotiating took place with the surviving pirates above decks. Not long after the ship shattered against rocks on the shores of Northern Qadira. They came upon the Temple of Aroden and the demon's prison while trekking across the desert to Katheer after, which didn't improve their situation. That's more or less how they got here from Varisia. ![]()

Where are you?
You are outside the Toiling Midget in Katheer Below, a massive underground vault carved out eons ago – resting beneath the cliffside city. In the Below you will find the Katheeran naval keep, a small damp city district chock full of vile gathering places, the center of the slave trade in Qadira, numerous entrances to the tunnels that riddle the city above, and a troglodyte city separated from Katheer by a gated opening known as “The Seal”. Further back in the Trog half of Katheer Below is the infamous temple of Rovagug, which enjoys a popularity in Katheer second only to Sarenrae. Also, the notorious pit of Rovagug. Every good city needs a bottomless pit, am I right? Although the Trogs deal peacefully with humans, the fact that they refer to you pinkskins as “the food” in their native language is somewhat concerning. The constant disappearance of urchins and prisoners who vanish from their cells are the source of predictable local rumors and conspiracy theories. How did Aref get here? You all fled to the temple of Iomedae and sought the assistance of Bhodan. You were briefed on the function of the Eye of Aroden, which is a minor artifact and can’t be identified, and learned that you must seek out an insane old elven paladin of Aroden, by the name of Ka (Osirian word for soul) to learn how to use it. He lives, of course, across the desert to the south and in the mountains. At the temple you were introduced to a desert guide named Rohit, who is a sort of Bedouinesque paladin of Iomedae, and as a contact with the crazy old elf you have Thelonius Thistlecrit, aka the Herald of Death, who happens to know the old madman personally - and (as a side note) also believes himself to be a friend of Pharasma. Everyone rested and rose early, before sunrise, and you travelled to the temple of Pharasma to meet Thelonius (a tonsured bleachling gnome) and so Cordoba could attend an appointment at the temple. From the temple of Pharasma you followed a lead down into Katheer Below to find Book and put an end to his villainy, although you’ve never met him, and when you finish off with Book you’ll head off south to find the old elf, who will hopefully help you rid yourselves of Vass. Some stuff I mentioned that you missed: -Aref has apartments at the edge of the cliff overlooking the dock districts of Katheer. You were unable to bring the party there because you don’t want to attract Vass to your dwelling. -Either you or Rohit is carrying the Eye of Aroden. Whoever reads the spoiler first.
-Right now they’re trying to decide how to enter the Toiling Midget. Map as follows:
-The map of Katheer’s city core in pdf form is here. It has layers so you can see Katheer Below.
Again, this is the BBEG fight for the surviving Book captives: Jon, Pulsifer, and Cordoba. When it's done you can level up ![]()
![]() The Deceiver wrote: The Deceiver checks all the possible exits before entering. 3 main doors are marked by white arrows on the map: North main, East kitchen, South pier. The two windows look like they might help someone slip away, although it is quite a drop. INT DC 15 Spoiler: Also, conventions dictate that all good pirate hideaways are equipped with a secret getaway route, presumably underground, or out under the pier. ![]()
![]() Daytime above, yes, but it's practically night here in the damp vault of Katheer Below, but then it's always practically night down here. A quick look around shows you three double door entrances, one on the North, one on the East, and southern doors opening onto the pier. The building has two main stories and an upper attic space from which the only windows of the Midget glare outward darkly from under an algae slicked roof. One attic window looks east toward the path in, and one south out over the water and Katheer's anchored warships. ![]()
![]() Aref & Rohit: Spoiler:
I'm not sure which of you guys is carrying the Eye of Aroden now, so how about whoever posts first actually has it in their possession and takes a peek, AND notices that it is glowing green which means that Vass is nearby. LOC-NAR! So what is it, charge in and kill everything? Everyone agrees? ![]()
![]() Aref leads you toward a river channel that cuts straight into the cliffs - alongside the channel itself a narrow walkway leads into the dimly lit tunnel. As the tunnel widens and your eyes adjust you enter an entire district belowground with Katheer's naval keep at its center - this lit from above through a small hole that opens to blue sky. And the Toiling Midget, one of the few wooden buildings in Katheer - a hotel, flophouse, saloon and gambling house. Its ancient timbers groan at you from their perch half on the bank and half on an old pier. And inside, you are told, is Captain Gravid Book. ![]()
![]() As the sun begins to rise you pick up your packs. Thistlecrit eases up off the temple stairs, and you set off behind Aref toward the riverside of Katheer. There are few straight paths in the city and getting below is a particularly winding task. Switchbacks down the cliffs, and bent and broken streets between one descent and another. The air cools noticeably and the smell of the Qadr's waters smooth out the desert air when you reach the dock districts. Ferries leave for the south shore. Men load ships with cargo bound up and downriver.
