'It's possible that the mudman has another key and once we find the wizards we can try to face him again now that we have magics to at least keep us from drowning.' Perfire follows along searching for magical sources as they travel. 'The thing I've been more curious about is where all the water above is going. Unless I've been distracted, we haven't seen drip one from above.'
'I'm just glad he's back.' Perfire says quietly in regards to Wymond.
At Lukas' question about the lever the halfling gives a gesture halfway between a nod and a shrug.
'Well, if push comes to shove, I can have it ready tomorrow and put that enchantment on him and one of us and we should be able to effectively communicate. For now, maybe we can see if he knows where the wizards are kept?' Perfire shrugs at a loss how to communicate complex questions.
I played just a little Wrath before I had to head out of town. I'm playing a paladin and pretty quickly regretted it seeing as the first companion I found was also a paladin. I may start over with a rogue or wizard because they seem to like to skimp on those classes and only give you multiclass versions.
Perfire briefly considers who to cast his spell on and turns to Frizz. 'Focus on his words and they should pretty quickly begin to make sense to you for around an hour. From there you'll need to find a way for him to understand us, but it's a start.'
As he reads from the scroll it begins to slowly smolder from the bottom until it's consumed entirely.
'I have a way we can understand him, but we won't be able to respond in his language.' Perfire says, withdrawing a scroll from his case while keeping his eyes locked on the small creature jabbering away.
If I'm reading ready an action correctly, I can't, say, ready an action to attempt to paralyze an enemy since it's a 2 action spell, which seems, kind of silly to me, but them's the breaks. So I'll delay.
Perfire watches the small creature through the hole in the wall and prepares to incapacitate it if it continues to be a nuisances.
Delay until after the creature's turn to see what it does.
Perfire attempts to recognize the effect generated by the creature to see if he can attempt to dispel it.
So I automatically recognize any arcane or occult spell of level 4 or less or can roll with a +11, rolled in secret by the GM, on either to attempt to identify as per the feat. If it's not of either of those traditions I'm SOL.
If Identified:
Perfire reaches out and attempts to unravel the magic separating the room by stone.
Dispel Counteract Check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17Against spells without a set DC the counteract check modifier is your spellcasting ability modifier plus your spellcasting proficiency bonus, plus any bonuses and penalties that specifically apply to counteract checks.
If Unidentified:
Perfire reaches out and imbues Wymond's weapon with magic to help beat down the wall.
Wymond's weapon functions as a +1 Striking weapon for 1 minute
Sounds like we have two votes for back to Klarkosh's lair, so, unless anyone objects...
Perfire waits until everyone has gathered close and draws out the token emblazoned with an Azlanti '6' and activates the spire, hoping to teleport to the intended level.
'I don't think I'll ever get comfortable around those Hellknights. It almost makes me glad to be back at the spire.' Perfire frowns slightly at the thought. 'Well, shall we attempt the mud creature again or return to Klarkosh's lair and see if we can find those wizards? I hate to think of those wizards locked away down there alone.'
Ok, looks like the only scroll I bought I wasn't able to copy is Glitterdust, which was just a regular fail so I can try again next level. On top of that, I got crit successes on 4 1st levels and 1 2nd level, so half cost on those!
Ok, doing a minimal amount of digging, pre-Klarkosh the party loot consisted of
- Bag of Holding (type 1)
- parchment with sigil written in iridescent green ink (level 6 sign)
- mysterious noxious substance (3)
- 2 Spire Tokens
- Charter for Exploration
- +1 chainmail
- minor healing potions (x4; 1d8)
- lesser healing potion
Oof, I think Lilika had been keeping track of things loot-wise. I think we'll need to go back through the game and A)find the last list and B) update it. I'll see what I can do tonight.
I think the only thing we might be on a specific clock for is finding those fellas down in the spire. Months is probably too long to leave that thread hanging. Perfire's thing only takes 5 hours so he'll be good to go within a day.
As I posted in the main channel, Perfire would like to stick a couple of the scrolls his has into his spellbook. 1 1st level spell and 3 2nd level spells. Total cost in materials is 20 GP and it requires a check for each attempt, DC 15 for 1st level and 18 for the 2nds.
At the successful completion of the ritual Perfire slowly sinks to a sitting position in sheer relief, as if his body untensed for the first time in a long while. He cries silent tears despite the small smile on his tiny face. He mouths the words 'Thank you' to any and all powers that might be present.
Perfire watches the ritual with a stony face but puts his entire will into it's success. He nods along to Lukas' words and then speaks himself. 'As I told Miss Iliara, Wymond found me on the road, alone, afraid, not used to or even wanting my freedom. I didn't know what to do and was about to turn myself in to the nearest Chelaxian as a runaway. His kindness gave me hope and I tried to serve him for the first week we traveled together.' Perfire laughs to himself. 'He was having none of it. Wymond damn near pampered me in those early days. Nothing like feather beds or anything, but I couldn't cook, I couldn't clean, I think if it hadn't started to work he may not have let me go to the bathroom on my own.'
'He does that for everyone. He throws himself into helping them help themselves be better. From everything he's told me, that's what he intends to do here in the Riverlands, help it be better.'
Perfire smiles over to Triath. 'And I think the gods may see something like that too. They sent a guide to Wymond to aid him in working towards his goals, because they knew that if Wy succeeded, where ever he was would benefit from his presence.'
Perfire has some stuff to do while they're in town but would for sure prioritize getting Wymond back. Basically he's going to spend some time putting together his spellbook which may involve trying to get his hands on a few scrolls.
Perfire coughs lightly before speaking softly, eyes on the floor. 'I'd do anything to get Wymond back, trade anything. Belongings, freedom, my life, anything. When we met I was afraid of everything. I was afraid to talk, afraid to choose, afraid to live my life.' Small tears spatter at his feet as he goes on in a steady voice. 'He always believed in me and pushed me to be free of anyone. Without him I'd either be back in chains or under some other tyrant's boot. Whatever it takes, he has to come back.'
Raising his tear-streaked face he meets Iliara's gaze directly, a rare act for Perfire. 'The River Kingdoms will be worse without him.'
Perfire stutters and stammers as the group makes their way from the shrine, finally able to spit out what he'd been trying to say a good distance from the priestess. 'I-I-I wouldn't exactly call them friends. Acquaintances? Employers... kind of? And I don't know them well enough to say whether they'll render us aid returning empty handed as we are.'
Perfire looks up to Lukas and nods hesitantly. 'Perhaps we can make the necessary arrangements and leave her be for the evening. Whatever she has planned can surely wait for a bit of prayer and a brief, if thorough, discussion of our options.'
'Unless this 'Hanspur' is a god of fleecing mourners, I should be able to cover seeing to Wymond's arrangements.' Perfire says, patting a jingling pouch on his belt.
Perfire looks down to Triath for guidance. 'What do you think Wymond would want? Hanspur,' the halfing holds up his left hand 'or Gorum?' and holds up his right, waiting for the pig to indicate a preference.
Hey, sorry about that everyone. Got super busy and lost track of posting. I've for sure been following along but it looks like I've been forgetting to do my part!
Perfire's eyes have been fixed on Wymond's form as if attempting to will the man back to life. At the guards yelps, his gaze snaps up to the man in the dark. ''Walk any road, float any river' Isn't that one of the river freedomes?'
After pouring over the sorcerer class I remained pretty uninspired even with the great input from y'all and the links you shared. I'm thinking I'm on the right path, or at least A right path, in terms of build so, at least for now, I'm going to keep his build the same. I need to take more advantage of the things I have already, like Arcane Evolution, to make Perfire a bit more versatile.
I may have just been kinda feeling bummed and helpless at Wymond going down and struggles with the dice roller. I may have just needed to take a step back and reassess what I'd built. I'll get him updated for 5th level tonight.
At the mention of getting moving, Perfire stirs himself from his consuming thoughts and fishes the party's transport tokens out of a pouch. 'These will get us out, I think we saw the spire earlier where we came in. It's only a few rooms away.'
Perfire sets to cleaning Wymond's cold face and gathering his dropped belongings with his body. while the other's tend to the litter. When ready he leads the to the tower and activates the token for Godhome.
I sure do. I've been looking at Nethys off and on for the last two days looking for inspiration and a direction to take him without WILDLY changing the core of the character and I'm just not feeling inspired. I think part of it might be inspiration overload.
Here's where I'm at with it. As to Bloodlines I think I like the granted spell suite of the Imperial Bloodline but the bloodline spells and blood magic abilities are pretty unappealing at first glance.
I also don't feel particularly confident in my feat or spell selection to this point. After my 3rd or 4th look at his sheet I realized I've been totally forgetting his halfling luck ability, though I don't think his contributions defensively have been the issue.
I think ability and skill selection I'm fine, it's mostly just effectiveness in combat.
Perfire's old build is lost to the conversion to 2E. Basically he was aimed to use mostly battlefield control spells. He'd picked up some offensive stuff out of need(running into mindless stuff, things like that). He had the Arcane bloodline and I was going to take a bunch of metamagics and lean on those pretty heavy.
I think the issue I ran into with Perfire was trying to get as close to what I was going for in 1e which I don't think really works for 2e. I can work on rejiggering him here and get him a little more combat-relevant.
Upon learning of Wymond's fate Perfire's already dour demeanor darkens. Almost mechanically he administers his potions to his living allies. That seen to he moves to his dead friend's side and sits next to the larger man staring at the still form. After the others recover he speaks softly to no one in particular, eyes fixed on his friend. 'I think I'd like to go...'
As a look behind the veil I was looking at wizard to help refill Perfire's 'magic-guy' role but I'd also be totally fine pivoting if someone else wanted to play a caster.
As to getting back out, was floor 6 the only floor we had a transport token for? I thought we'd found one for one of the higher floors but I could be mistaken.
Perfire stands heaving for a moment in stunned silence before doubling over once more wracked with his body's desire to expel every last bit from his stomach, barely registering Lilika's kind words. As he straightens back up he takes in the scene of absolute carnage around him. He hurries over with a look of worry plain on his face and sets his pack amongst his downed friends and begins rummaging through it's contents. Fishing out a pair of potion vials he holds them up to Lilika.
'These should help! I think if we can get Wymond and Lukas awake maybe one of them can help Frizz!'
Had a pair of minor healing potions squirrelled away, a day late and a potion short, though.
I know Perfire is going to miss his buddy. They've been through a lot together. I was thinking of retiring Perfire to find safer work back in town anyway because I just wasn't happy with his build so this will probably be what makes the decision for him, assuming he can make it back out!
Perfire remembers a scroll he'd tucked away the last time they were in town. If not now, then never, he thinks to himself. Drawing the scroll and invoking it's arcane power, Perfire launches an acidic arrow at his enemy.
