This is sixteenbiticon's submission. I created this character for use in another campaign, but it barely got off of the ground before the GM disappeared.

I have modified his build to fit your chargen guidelines and worked some details from the NPCs in Kassen into his background as well.

Pavo listens intently as Diorn speaks, struggling to understand most of what has been said.  

After Athene's translation he responds with a shrug, "I'm glad you got most of that because apparently I need to brush up on my Elvish.  Maybe if we get a spare moment you give me a quick refresher?  Having two of us who can speak somewhat fluently with these folk doesn't sound like a bad idea." Glancing back at Diorn, but addressing Athene, "I would love to guest with them, it would give us the chance to see a bit more of the camp, sans crossbow." He says with his usual sheepish grin.

Nonchalantly crossing his arms across his chest, he checks to ensure his daggers are secure up his sleeves.  That being done, gives a quick nod, signaling he is ready to go.

Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Just let me know if this isn't the appropriate skill check for checking the wrist sheaths without being noticed.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

The last thing Pavo wanted to do was raise the ire of these heavily armed guards, so his daggers stayed well and hidden up his sleeves.  He takes his turn with the metal jug, drinking deep enough to sate his thirst, but not too deep to seem selfish.  The long pull caused the frigid temperature of the wine to send a shock through his sensitive teeth, "Ahh," his hand shooting up to his face, massaging his jaw, "that sure is cold!  It's good, but next time I might go a bit easier on it, hah!" He hands the jug over to whomever is next in line.

Addressing the woman, he almost seems embarrassed, shrugging sheepishly and nods, his ever present lop-sided grin almost splitting his face.  Pointing to himself, then at each of his companions individually, he then points to the south, indicating the way they had come.

When the subject of the wolf-dog comes up, Pavo agrees with Mina, "Yes, I think she is indicating the muscled brutes that were stalking us through the mists." He then turns to Mina, "Maybe we should show them the vial that the two psychos from before seemed to be fighting over?"

When the party introductions begin Pavo takes his turn accordingly, pointing to himself, "Pavo.  Pavo Dent." When Staveon tells them that they're all from the River Kingdoms, he shakes his head, pointing to himself then to the map, "Not from the River Kingdoms, I'm from Ilsurian.  In Varisia.  Varisia," as he indicates the empty space to the left of the map, drawing a circle in the air, trying to convey that Varisia is to the west of the area depicted on the map.

Pavo takes another pull from the jug, snorting to the point where the liquid almost shoots out of his nose as Mina suggests drawing more graphic imagery to get Athene's point across.  "Now that reaction I would pay to see, hah!"

After helping Staveon act out their fight from the previous day, Pavo takes a back seat to the conversation.  Talk had turned to attempts at parsing out the names of places and nobility and these things simply didn't keep Pavo's attention, knowing that his companions would fill him in on the relevant bits. The problem was that his feet kept trying to walk away from the group.  After multiple scoldings , a stern gaze, and finally a sneer and a shaken fist, his wandering legs got the better of him.  As the rest of the group busied themselves with conversation, Pavo takes the opportunity to slip away from the meeting to take a peek at the rest of the camp.

Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 I wasn't sure if I'd need to roll this, since I'm probably in plain sight, but figured I put it out there, in case my attempts at sneaking away causes some sort of commotion.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 For perusing the rest of the camp for anything out of the ordinary, unique, or interesting.  So, pretty much everything.

For the initial exchange:

Following the others lead, Pavo raises his hands slightly, palms facing the guards, displaying the fact that he was unarmed, his usual lop-sided grin on his face.  Whispering out of the side of his mouth to the others, "They seem bored, just act like this is routine.  We are locals, or at the very least from a neighboring village."

Picking up on the same phrase as Athene,  Pavo can speak Elvish and Sylvan, he tries Sylvan.

Sylvan:
"Hey, hey!  We come in peace!  We could see the smoke from your cook fires a way off, so we decided to pay you a visit.  What's the wine like in these parts?  Pretty good, eh?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

After the second exchange:

Whispering to the group yet again, "Uh, guys, it doesn't look like their mood is improving much.  Stavy, I wouldn't go any closer.  Well, if nothing else we most certainly have their full attention."

On a whim, hoping to play the part of the court jester,  Pavo tries to do a few tricks for the guards, hoping to diffuse the situation.  He does a hand spring into a forward flip, immediately transitioning into a few cartwheels, ending on one knee in a flourishing bow, his right arm bent across his chest, his left arm pointed straight back, and a wide disarming grin on his face.  

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 I don't have the means to research the DC of such a feat, so I will leave it up to your discrection, GM.

By your directions and geographical reference the castle is up in the Napa Valley?  If so, which town will the road north be taking us through, surely not San Francisco?  Or are you referring to the town of Vallejo itself?

Luckily, my wife and I spent our 2nd anniversary travelling to San Francisco and the wine country in Napa/Sonoma, so I have plenty of real life experience to enhance your visual descriptions.  Bang up job so far.

Pavo's jaw slackens and his heart begins to race as he is afforded his first glimpse of the surrounding vista.  He turns slowly, unsure of which view should attract his attention the most.  With a quip for every situation, you are stunned as this is the first time you can recall Pavo being at a complete loss for words.

As the group decides to head north to the familiar looking castle and village, he dumbly nods his acquiescence, words escaping him utterly.

Can we retcon that we did some magical healing overnight? I think the idea got lost in the mix when we hadn't heard from the gm in a while.

Pavos actions will remain the same until an enemy presents itself.  Holding action to sneak attack anything within range.

"Geez, why do you guys sound so serious!?" Pavo quavers as he crouches behind whatever cover he can find, "They're just some nice doggies who want to come play.  Let's entertain them for a while!" Pavo gestures to the rest of the party with one of his daggers, glancing down at the needle point, a gleam in his eyes.

GM if you want to bot Pavo over the weekend, please feel free. He will always attempt to get sneak attacks, be it by tumbling into flanking position or by using his two-weapon feint to get the extra damage on his second attack.

"Ugh!", Pavo says as the skull is pointed out to him, a look of disgust on his face.

"Uh, guys did you see that? That huge dog??" Seeing the rest of the group stare back at him with bewildered faces he continues, "There's another road running along this one to our left. I saw a huge slavering dog looking like nothing would please it more than to suck the marrow from our bones, but the mists swallowed it up. We'd better get ready for some company..."

With a flick of his wrists, Pavo's daggers drop into his hands. He quickly steps to the closest cover he can find, trying to hide himself from the brutish dog that is surely coming their way.

If able, Pazo will ready a full sneak attack for if the dog comes in range.

Staveon, I prefer to keep Pavo's background loose and general. I like the specifics of a character to develop organically over the course of a campaign. I'd rather focus on the world we are in now than the specifics of how we came together in the past. I'm assuming we met on the road and have been traveling together for a couple years as has been stated in the flavor text of the campaign.

And I think an arcane character would not only round out the group mechanically, but it would also add in the interesting facet of how our change of locale has effected magical ability.

Since the blade was obviously not a dagger, Pavo doesn't pay it any mind.  Hopping from one foot to the other, Pavo is eager to be off.  After descending from the platform he trots ahead, eager to find out exactly where they are and what mysteries lie within the concealing fog.  As the group reaches the road, Pavo abruptly drops to all fours to get a better look at the strange black surface.

"Oh man, I'm pretty sure we're not in the River Kingdoms anymore!  Come here guys, feel this!" He says as he runs his palm over the oddly smooth surface.  He glances up to see if anyone else is as interested in the odd road, and in doing so spots the poles and the cables connecting them.  He stands up, mouth agape, road forgotten.  "What in the world are those!?" 

He runs over to one of the poles, rapping his knuckles against the wooden surface, listening closely to the sound it makes.  He stares back at the rest of the party, his face beaming with the joyous wonder of youth.

As the party finally arrives at the dike, he quickly pinches his nose, waving a hand in front of his face, "Peeee-yew!  This place stinks!  I'd like to see that sea (heh), but I don't think this is the way to do it.  We should double back and head down that road we passed.  Maybe we should try heading south to see if it will warm up a bit for us?  Speaking of warming up, I have a feeling that if we wait for the sun to rise a bit, it will burn off most of this fog so we can get a better look around."

In response to Staveon's comment, "No Stavy, I haven't seen anything like this in my days on the road.  You should know, I've spent most of them with you!"

As dawn breaks, Pavo stirs emitting a large contented yawn.  After giving himself a good scratch and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, he rolls to his feet and begins his usual morning ritual of cracking his joints and stretching out the kinks in his limbs.  "Man, we gotta find an inn or something, my backside can't take much more of this... whatever this stone is.  A nice king-size goose down mattress, now that would do wonders for my aching limbs." He gives one last great stretch before finally checking to ensure that his wrist sheaths are properly secure. That done, he glances around to see how the rest of the group faired overnight.

"We're still here, eh?  I was hoping it was all just a bad dream..." Pavo looks around with a sheepish grin.  He steps lightly to the edge of the platform and takes in what he can of their surroundings, eventually peering down below.  "Huh, that's odd.  Unless I'm imagining things, it appears the bodies of those chaps have wandered off.  Did you two notice anything strange last night?"

Woo, glad to be back! With Saranie leaving we should definitely open up recruitment for an arcane character.

As for rope, I have 50' of silk rope and a grappling hook.

Yeah, I didn't mean look for another gm for this game, I meant offer us up as a whole package for another game (maybe seeking an arcane character to round us out a bit.)

I wouldn't want to force this game upon another gm when we've just gotten started, it wouldn't make much sense since we haven't really established anything.

Saranie, now you have me confused. I was at 0, healed 8 with my wand, then added in the 9 from your LoH, bringing me to 17. I acknowledged it and thanked you in character. So now you're doling out that healing to others?

Edit: I'm not trying to hog all of the healing, I just want to know what my current HP total should be.

I'm a bit confused. Are the weapons still with the bodies down below, or did someone bring them up to the top to be examined?

Current HPs: 17/24.

Looking up to Saranie with a sheepish grin, "Thanks, toots."

Pavo stands up, taking a moment to brush himself off and run his fingers through his perpetually tousled hair. He gives one of the ghoul corpses a passing kick, his leather knee-high boots making a dull thud. "Bloody undead..."

Addressing the group, "I'm all for hunkering down, but I'm not sure if this is the place to do it. It seems to be easily defensible, but it also leaves us extremely exposed to... whatever threats may be out there. I say we move. Finding water should be a priority, but I have about a weeks worth of rations in my pack. I could also use a bit more wandage since mine appears to have stopped working."

At the mention of what may inhabit this unusual place, Pavo steps to the edge of the platform, looking out into the perpetual darkness, wondering exactly what my lie in the distance. Or, for that matter, what eyes may be returning his gaze...

As the paralysis wears off, Pavo lets out a very loud groan.

"Uuuhhhh..." He begins to stir, rolling over onto his back and raising his limbs, inspecting the wounds there. "Well, at least that's over. What happened? Where in the Nine Hells are we!?"

He evetually rolls over to his stomach and lifts himself up to a crawl, slowly looking over the surface of the cylinder. He finally locates the dagger that he lost, which quickly disappears up a sleeve, and then grasps the wand which he dropped.

"I know I definitely need this, does anyone else?"

UMD on Wand of CLW: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I'm just checking in from my phone. I had no idea undead were no longer immune to precision damage (which is why I tried the wand attack earlier.) That's awesome!

I'm assuming an attack is coming my way, so I'll react accordingly.

"Staveon, what gives, man? It's me, Pavo! I didn't think you drank that much!'

5' step south then performing a two-weapon feint.

Pavo shuffles a few steps southward, then when he thinks he has an opening he stabs his first dagger up high towards the man's face, attempting to throw him off balance as his second dagger comes in low, aiming for the man's kidney.

Feint: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 2d8 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (2, 4) = 8

Doubling over in agony, Pavo drops his wand to the ground as he grasps his head in both hands. "Ahhgh, damn you!" Addressing the rest of the group, " This guy is doing something to my mind!  He's the real threat here!"

Having momentarily recovered from the pain, Pavo turns a white hot gaze on the ragged man. With a flick of his wrists, two daggers drop into his hands and takes a few steps south in an effort to eventually flank the man.

5' step south (ending  up just to the east of the man) and a single dagger attack (unfortunately, no full-round attack action since I don't have quick draw.)

Dagger attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

"Wh-what..? What happened? Where are we? After noticing the ghouls attacks, "Althene, Therin! Look out!"

Pavo will 5' step diagonally to the south of Staveon and use his wand of cure light wounds on the ghoul in front of him.

Pavo is quick to react, stepping right up to one of the clawed abominations.  A wand appears in his hand seemingly from thin air, as he attempts to activate it to damage the ghoul. Unfortunately, as he presses it into the monster's flesh, nothing happens. "Bah, blasted thing!"

I've finished purchasing gear and updated my skills a bit. I've also changed to mithral chain shirt and hidden my daggers, so I have updated his description accordingly. Please feel free to look over Pavo, as I believe he is finished.

Ah, yes, my apologies. I added in the +4 from nonchalant thuggery without specifying that it applies to feint only. I have corrected the issue.

As for what Pavo would do in a foreign land. Well, after the initial shock wore off, the trepidation and anxiety of the uncertainty of ever seeing his family again (the specifics of those motivations are up for debate, see the pm I sent you) would certainly hit him pretty hard. Although, those feelings wouldn’t last. I think it is in his nature to be ever-optomistic, so he would internally come to the conclusion that he would certainly get back to Avistan, it was just a matter of how long it would take.

His first order of business would be to secure shelter, all the while consulting the rest of the party as to their thoughts on the matter as a whole, and what exactly happened to them (I’m assuming Pavo wouldn’t have the faintest clue about anything involving interplanar travel.) The wrench in his spokes would be his insatiable curiosity, as I briefly touched upon in his flavor text, he would have to fight every urge to bound off over the next hill to investigate what wonders it might conceal. Considering our current pool of applicants, curiosity seems to be the norm rather than the exception, so I envision the group getting into all sorts of interesting debacles.

Ultimately, he would want to return to Avistan, but he would be in no rush to do so, confident it would happen naturally over the course of their adventures. He would want to see as much of this strange new land as he could before returning, however. And if he managed to pick up a new bauble here and an interesting trinket there along the way, all the better.
