Withdrawing my desire to ply play by posts has waned.

backstory:
Ozen Helix was thankfully for him born in the nation of Cheliax since his unnatural state would have doomed him in most other countries. Though the people in the nation still treated him like dirt. His mother was a maid in House Leroung. His father was unknown to him but his resemblance to the lord of the house led to him and his mother being cast out when he was still a child. His mother got work where and how she could for the next few years. She died a month after his seventeenth birthday from filth fever. Even the slightest aid would have saved her but they had no money and were turned away everywhere. Ozen decided on that day that he would take what ever he wanted from the world be it money or power. For more than four decades he led a gang of half orc and human thieves he cut a swath of blood up and down eastern Cheliax. Using his ability to summon darkness they raided caravans and noblemen aplenty. When he was 62 his second in command Davor decided that he would prefer to be the leader. He gave Ozen up to the Cheliax government. After weeks of running and hiding he could not escape the guards with his back to the wall he dove off a cliff into the Inner Sea. While his body was being dragged deeper into the ocean's darkness a voice spoke to him promising life in exchange of service. Ozen agreed and then woke suddenly the first thing he saw was a scorpion siting on his chest and feeling the sensation that he was changed forever.

Ozen's body was different where he was once obviously a tiefling the signs of his infernal heritage had diminished. His tail was gone but more surprisingly his hooves had been altered into feet. Ozen found that his alteration was more than skin deep his ability to call on darkness was gone but he had gained the ability to see the light of life in all living things. His skill with weapons and knowledge of fighting was all but washed away replaced by an almost crackling internal energy. These changes confused and worried him greatly but the biggest surprise came when he tried to leave the beach and started to choke on water. It didn't take him long to realize that the scorpion was at the center of his cage so he went back to have a look at it. Gazing at the scorpion a heavy understanding filled him. He knew that he had to keep to his word to the force that saved him and he had to serve his new master. He was terrified because he didn't know what it wanted. Picking up the scorpion he again attempted to leave the beach and was successful. He had found a road and was walking up it when his new senses picked up something on the side of the road. It was a middle-aged man being threatened by many men in armor several men in similar armor lay nearby on the ground. Trying to pass by it he started to choke again, the scorpion climbing his shoulder and realized what he had to do. He turned to the man and called out. When one of the soldiers turned turned and their eyes met he slammed his will against the other mans. He turned raised his hands up and was astonished when bright blue flames spread out in a wave dropping a soldier where he stood. The man he meet laughed long and hard at the sight before waving his hand and acid rained from the sky. Ozen was terrified as the man tapped his shoulder with a wicked smile before saying "Good job ignoring me would have been a bad choice. I do owe you one though and I will pay you back." before turning and walking away cackling. Ozen has been living with his changes and always careful to make sure to ask Luci his scorpion before any truly dangerous action immediately jumping to obey his orders no mater what he thinks. Until one day he gets a letter hell hero I have something for you and Luci prevents him from burning it up.

I thought he had just recently died so that the above backstory would be sensible.

As I am a tiefling I dealt with him directly. 40 or so years back since I start adventuring in my 100's.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My least favorite class feature is wild empathy since I can rarely find a time were it is usable due to it taking a minute and since its cha based and I would have at best a 10 in cha. My favorite would have to be the alchemist discoveries because I enjoy the ways they let you change bombs.

Human

Very sorry about this but life has gotten in the way of my enjoyment of these games and I will need to withdraw from all my play by posts.

Human

So this is the cave system you guys were talking about. Not as weird as I thought it would be. Huh I wonder how high the water is on the other side of the wall.

Human

That's fine as long as you don't start throwing one eared orcs at us.

That is interesting I will talk to my compatriots about that they would probably be happy to do it but we have some work already lined up we need to do.

Later in the tavern with the others.

So here is your 5 gold from the bounty and the Marshel might hire up as temporary guardsmen and women. So we have a backup job for after we finish off the hobgoblins. Uh as the ever so interesting sight of Min crow-baring open that chest we are about to head into a trap filled area with no way to remove them besides pushing someone*cough not it* through each. I have been studying the issue and have an idea on how to deal with it but I haven't quite managed to gain a usable amount of talent.

I.e at third level I will max out disable device.

Human

We all get 319.65 gp except Wags who gets 57.15 gp and the tiara which she can sell to make up the difference currently not counting the orc ears.

Ok, we have managed to sell the loot fairly well now we need to go to the sheriffs office to hand in the ears and then we can head to the inn and call it a night.

Human

Lily or Wags I need some help with haggling my face is a bit frighting and merchants tend to call the guard when I haggle. I doubt you guys want to deal with bailing me out of jail so can one of you haggle for me. Oh and Wags I assume you are keeping the tiara in place of your cut of the loot.

Human

@GM Do we just half value for sales or will there be that opposing roll thing. List of stuff to be sold and split. 36 black barbed arrows, 3 longbows, 4 battleaxes, 4 heavy wooden shields, 1 masterwork greataxe, 4 scale mail, 1 masterwork chainshirt, 3 battleaxes, 3 heavy wooden shields with the white fist emblem painted on, 3 leather armor, three daggers, 6 orc ears valued at 60 gp total. 765.9 gold

Well I have a list of items to be sold I will need Min to come with me to carry the stuff and tell me were to go I have yet to sell anything in town and how to find the sheriff.

Human

While i am all for killing orcs aren't we forgetting the job we were paid in advance for. You know for the noble.

Ozen looks at the others and raises his brows.

Human

Min the crowbar gives a +2 to your +4 Str. Its why you use crowbars. You have a 16 and its open. Also GM the only exit point to the room we are in is the one we went through right.

Min you clearly levered the box open why do you need help?

Human

Oh look a distra-chest I should examine it for magical traps.

Ozen quickly begins examining the chest.

Detect magic on the chest then through the wood unless it is thicker than three feet.

Human

Ozen looks about and stammers a bit

I have some weird habits from when I was a different person I have changed inside and out from then and I really don't like talking about it.

Human

There was a bounty for their ears.

Ozen draws his dagger and begins removing the ears of the dead orcs.

You are coming with me to Magnimar.

Oh god did I really just talk to pieces of people. Calm down don't go back to your old habits. You are a good person now.

Human

Orcish:
Fall orcs and die you will be cut down and destroyed your bodies mutilated and your souls unmourned.

Cleave Min, and only cleave.

Ozen moves 10 feet closer to Gloin.

Evil eye -2 ac dc 15 will save last uncursed orc. I am sensing a pattern on using a witch.

Human

They were using the troll to protect themselves. There may be more orc's coming up be careful. Min, Gloin go for the weakened ones first.

Helix stays 10 feet behind Min and Gloin drawing the wand of CLW as he steps up.

Evil eye -2 ac dc 15 will save which ever orc min is closest to. Gm are you still boting Wag's. How big is the door orc sized (medium) or troll sized (large).

Human

init: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

At least its not another troll.

Ozen steps up 15 feet behind Gloin holding his longspear forward

Hey there orc your armors looking a little thin.

Evil eye -2 ac dc 15 will save.

Human

Ozen puts his finger to his lips and gestures everyone closer before whispering.

There may be someone else in there be careful.

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Human

So we search the cave and then go back to town then. Lily or Wags in a fight I can almost always eat at our enemies abilities would one of you like to hold on to the wand of CLW instead of me.

Human

I am 90, Tiefling's base age is 60. Witches get 6d6 added to that so between 66 and 99. I will die in my late 200's early 300's. I really hate that all races don't start at the same age myself that's why most of my long life races back stories have something driving them out of their original life. That said I am only double his age.

No Min this is the afterlife it ate us all. We are currently being digested along with that poor ranger.

Ozen manages to look sad for a few moments before laughing at him self.

Just kidding. Apparently the beast locked on you as a target because of your size, Sorry about that. Gloin and Firebeard were able to put it down though. Then the ranger gave us some advice on battle tactics and you woke up.

Human

clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
So +17 hp for min
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
+8 for Gloin

Ozen quickly moves up and begins applying the wand to Min bring him back to almost full strength before turning and aiding Gloin.

Hearing the man's words Ozen blushes strongly enough to be seen even with his red skin.

I was about to say the older man's words when I realized if he is human I am probably 3-5 times his age.

Human

Gloin you have a second roll from the fortune hex.

Forget what I just said Wag's please heal Gloin.

Human

Ozen will 5 foot step forward and grant the blessing of his patron to Gloin before cackling madly to maintain the blessings on Min and Gloin.

So Gloin roll twice and min you are still fortune hexed.

Lily, Wags heal min even down he has a good chance of ending the beast.

Human

Qzen looks at min and blesses him with the full force of his power. He then cackles gleefully at his work.

So roll twice Min but a large greatsword is 3d6 not 4d8.

Human

Mage armor on Firebeard, Enlarge person on Min (unless he dosen't want it), draws longspear.

Min hold back until I can grant you fortune in battle.

Fortune hex: roll any d20 twice and chose the better result once a turn.

Human

It seems we will be helping you after all. We should hurry though we still need to head back to town.

Human

If we are going to help does anyone know anything about trolls that could be of value in a fight.

I think this is right.
K. Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Human

I want to laugh at his name. I really do. I wish this was my PFS character he collects the ears of his dead enemies and we would have been 50 gp richer.

I would be happy to help. But this is a group decision. Humm... What is the standard reward for troll hunting and how long would it take we have another job waiting for us Mr. Minx. If it is quick enough or had a good reward we would probably do it.

Human

I thought you had your own since you stated up a longbow on your character sheet.

Human

Ok, I got it. DM can we just act like the stuff we are selling is going to be carried to prevent encumbrance penalties without having to figure things out.

Come now friend the sooner we finish the sooner we can get back to town, have a drink and let you brag to the whole tavern about you impressive display of martial talents.

After the gear was stored away Ozen pauses before falling in line next to Firebeard

That reminds me Firebeard walk with me when we travel I would like to be able to cast a spell of protection (mage armor) on you if we are attacked again.

Human

A slightly smug smile runs over Ozen's face

I agree but you are the only one who has any aptitude with the weapon but lacks one. Besides If some more bandits attack us and then runs the arrows should give us a good blood trail to chase it down with.

Who is keeping track of stuff for the party.

Human

Ozen carefully studies both the treasure and his new allies using the knowledge he gained from his years as a bandit chief.

Min we should move on and deliver our message then sell the stuff when we swing back toward the town on our way to the inn. As for the loot Wags should get this well made chainmail (MW) the chieftain was wearing, Min you should pick up a bow to be on the safe side, and the arrows should be split evenly between you three while we travel, with either Wag's or Gloin giving you some of their regular arrows these could be valuable. Lastly Firebeard hold onto this potion of Cure Light Wounds.

Suddenly Ozen realizes he was ordering around the others and quickly blushes at his words.

That is if you guy's want to do it that way.

appraise arrows: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Human

wand CLW
firebeard: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
firebeard: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
firebeard: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
firebeard: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Ozen steps over the bleeding Firebeard and begins to use the wand of cure light wounds to heal him.

Are you all right Firebeard do you need anything else, does anyone else need healing.

Human

Round 6

Ozen sees his ally fall and rushes forward to heal him brandishing his wand and laying it on him.

heal: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Seeing his ally still on the ground he he brandishes the wand at the Orc Chief.

Hurry up and put him down.

Second part flavor no mechanical effects

Human

I already used evil eye on orc 2 so put it on his attack rolls so he is -2 ac and -2 attack rolls.

Human

Ok everyone is fighting well I will just back away then.

Evil eye hex range 60 on the orc2 -2 to ac 7 rounds dc 15 will save to reduce to one round. Then backs up and away from danger.

Moves to earlier posision. Is she just singing or using bardic song.

Human

Sorry I was confusing the orc's 6 with the chieftains attack roll.

Damn they are in trouble up there sigh I need to do this.

Walk up to Firebeard and use a charge of the wand on him.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Swing Firebeard and put him down.

Human

Round 3

Command dc 15 on Orc 2 Halt draw wand of CLW

Well this isn't going very well.

Gloin Go for Orc 3 he is weaker, also the chief can only hit you on a nat 20 for the next 6 rounds so have fun

Human

Cross bow is a 19-20 crit range lily.

Min Help fire beard. Let me weaken the leader while you deal with the weaker ones.

Evil eye hex range 60 on the orc leader -2 to attack rolls 7 rounds dc 15 will save to reduce to one round and a cackle. Will 5foot is possible out of leader's charging path.

Human

init: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Enraged at the sneak attack Ozen lets his blight filled rage wash over him and devour the jack--- Orc who managed to score a hit on his comrade.

Evil eye hex range 60 on the orc that hit min -2 to ac 7 rounds dc 15 will save to reduce to one round. If he resists I will cackle to increase duration by one round if he doesn't I will draw my longspear and move to some cover keeping no more than 40 feet away from them.

Min charge the one that struck you I have sapped his strength and he is vulnerable.

Human

Lets go to the rangers then. The noble is waiting for our return so no lives will be lost if we tarry but these rangers don't know of the problem they need to face or the beasts will continue their rampage.

Human

Taking the money directly from the advance from their earlier job Ozen eagerly parses out 800 gp from the 900gp from the advance.

Here you are ma'am thank you for the wand.

Everyone but me has 16 gold left from the advance I have 14.

Human

Finding Wags after having no luck on finding a wand of CLW Ozen hears what the priestess says and approaches her.

Ah hello Wags. Ma'am how much would a wand of CLW cost. We need one if we are going to travel safely.

Human

Having no luck finding the first kind of wand Ozen tries to purchase a wand of cure light wounds in order to help keep the party healthy. Placing his new red Fez on his head he searches about the town asking around to find someone who can sell him the wand.

diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8

Human

Wags or Gloin are going to need to search out wand sales men I am as charismatic as a thrown knife.

Human

Yes, I will be getting a wand of Infernal healing for the party.

Human

Oh well we need to go get a wand for the party at ye old'e magik shope I believe that will take the majority of our advance. Lets see hmmm carry the one... oh, we will have a mere 150gp left from our advance all together. The good news is that a mere 12 sp should get us all situated at the hatter's with Fezzes.

Smiling and glancing at the others he heads toward the town.

Human

Ozen reaches out his hands and grabs one of Wag's.

Wag's you truly understand the beauty of fezzes. Please write a song to there glory.

Human

Wags I 100% agree, and think that we should get fezzes for a fez is the very pinnacle of hats. Think about it for a moment it holds the heat in keeping the top of your head warm while at the same time doesn't mess up the hair on top of your head. It can't be pulled over your eyes and doesn't cover up your ears. The fez is the best hat that could be. And all who say different are liars filthy, filthy liars.

If you haven't noticed I have decided to make him passionate about fezzes.
