Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Yes, don't worry about it; we do this for fun, but it's of no import compared to anyone's health. I hope that things get better for you.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Seeing the anxiety of the guards, Neera quickly sheathes her rapier. Before deciding that it might be best to slightly expand on Briney's explanation.
Undead happened. Three of them; you can find them downstairs. Watch for traps though. This guy here fled when the rotting ones appeared... said he was with the Society, but he didn't seem to even know our motto, abandoned us as soon as danger showed up, and ran straight into a trap as he was running away. Quite suspicious, I'd say; I think we might have to check his background with the Society to figure out what happened.

Emboldened by the toppling of the Mummy and her companions' healing, Neera confidently ◆Stride opposite Briney to flank her enemy, before attempting to bring her rapier in a wide upward swing across rotten sinews and decaying bandages (◆Confident Finisher) and lightly ◆Tumbling through between its bony legs and back in a corner of the room.

Rapier attack vs flat-footed AC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Piercing dmg on hit: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Precise strike dmg (half on miss): 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7
deadly dmg on crit: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Tumble through vs Reflex DC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Yes, Neera's AC was 20, but still a crit...

Neera ◆Steps next to the giant pile of rotten flesh and bones, as if to strike, but suddenly switch to a sweeping kick aimed at ◆Tripping her foe. She then ◆Steps back into the corner, bruises from the mummy's slam already darkening the right side of her face.

Athletics to Trip vs Green Mummy Reflex DC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

If Tumble through succeed, Neera's strike is a Confident Finisher. If not, a normal strike. If Tumble Through fail, she should also be in front of yellow, not behind...

Neera then attemps to ◆ stab the yellow mummy with her rapier before taking a defensive position, carefully observing her foe. (◆ Dueling Parry, AC=20)

Rapier Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Piercing dmg on hit: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Precise Strike dmg if TT successful: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11
Deadly dmg on crit: 1d8 ⇒ 3

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

What the hell are those things?? says Neera as she raises her rapier and rushes the yellow mummy. She feints right to put the mummy of balance, then juke left to attempt to ◆Tumble Through the mummy's space.

Tumble Through: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

You might be a bit out of date, Pathfinder friend. says Neera as she follows Briney in. That is not the motto they teach at the Great Lodge these days.

Society: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Careful, there is something in there! Let's wait for the others to catch up whispers Neera, as she follows Briney and Delta.
Getting behind the goblin, rapier at the ready, she holds herself against the wall in an attempt to remain out of sight should Briney enter the chamber.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Sure. Worse case, we can always bring it back to the Society. I'm sure someone there will know what to make of its contents.

Neera then moves carefully to the next corner, and listens for any sound coming from the hallway to the South or the room to the North.

((Perception+5, Stealth+7 if needed))

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

As Pasq and Briney shuffle through the campground, Neera looks curiously from the hallway.
That... does not look like standard issue Society gear. Ever seen anything like it?

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

I'd be good to restart as well, thanks a lot!

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

That should be ok for me.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Sounds good, glad to hear that you are doing better!

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Well, at least this should be easier to understand that those carvings... Neera thinks, observing the reassuringly familiar sight of an underground campsite.

As Briney rushes past her and into the camp, Neera steps aside and nods at the rest of the party

I'll stay here and keep an eye out. Let me know if you find anything interesting about our so-called colleague in there.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Tense and focused on the door and hallway ahead, Neera doesn't notice Briney following in her tracks. As she turns back from her rather uneventful exploration, she finds herself face to face with the goblin and barely holds a scream, jumping back towards the door.

Ah! Briney, good. Sorry, sneaking from door to door, not knowing what waits for us... I think I'm a bit on edge, here.

Then as Channary joins the group, she answers
So far, only silence and empty hallways. No sign of our Pathfinder 'friend' yet, I'm afraid.

As the rest of the party comes back from their study of the murals, Neera goes back to the first door in the western hallway, and pushes it open.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera turns to Pasq and Briney

Just more doors and empty hallways. Do you feel ready to explore deeper? I'm happy to go listen at those doors there, if you can cover me.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

No worries, hope that it gets better.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Hmm... figured as much, they didn't seem the type to loose track of a full team of agents.

The idea of rogue Pathfinders doesn't look as exciting to Neera as it is to Pasq, and she continues to nervously peak behind the northern corner of the hallway, wondering what dangers might lie ahead.

Neera (◆)Seek in the hallway heading west from her current position on the map; Perception +5. I believe this is a secret roll, so I won't roll here... happy to proceed differently in the future if you prefer me to roll directly though.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Thanks for the company, Briney.

Hearing the noises coming out of the room, Neera then says:
Sounds like they might be making some progress in there? Well, let's make sure no one bothers the working brains!

After a second pause, she continues
You've worked for the Society before, right? Do you think they could have accidentally sent two teams here? They seemed so organized...

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Thanks Briney! Explore and Report! I'll go check outside and make sure no one gets the drop on us here.

Well aware that her own knowledge of ancient Osirians and long-forgotten wars is seriously lacking, Neera leaves the study of the carvings to more academically oriented minds, and heads back to the hallway. Scouting to the end of the corridor, she first carefully listens, then take a quick peak behind the corner.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Deception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Well, I didn't know you where an artist too, Briney; nice! You know... maybe these carvings are not to your taste, but I'm sure the Society would love for us to bring them back some sketches.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera carefully follows Decaine. She gives the carvings a cursory look, scanning the room instead for hidden dangers.

Where there was one trap, there could be more. What kind of people traps the main entrance to their building?, she thinks.

Then aloud to Decaine: How much do you know about those ancient Osirians? Does this look like something the Society would be interested in?

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera starts to silently follow Decaine, then stops in her track at his signal, hugging the right wall. She reaches for her rapier, then stops herself.
Not yet. Maybe bloodshed will not be necessary today.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Examining pointlessly the jumble of tracks left by the party in the entrance, Neera swears under her breath.
Damnit. I should have thought of this before we trampled all over the place, she thinks.

Well, Decaine, let's follow your instincts then, if no one objects.

Neera carefully approaches the northward passage.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

That'd make sense, yeah! Might be other traces of their passage though, in case they found and avoided the trap.

Neera starts looking around for tracks or other marks of recent passage within the old hallways.

Trained in Survival (+3), Expert in Perception (+5) if needed

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

As Briney and Delta proceed deeper into the hallways, Neera puts her tools away and, following Pasq's example, attempts to silently move from shadow to shadow.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera stands up from disarming the door trap and looks at the rest of the group.

Well, our friendly guard upstairs didn't mention this... I fear that our Pathfinder "colleagues" will not welcome us with open arms.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera nodds appreciatively at Briney

Good catch... that's weird indeed.

She then cautiously approach, looking for traps.

Trained in Thievery (+7), if it matters...

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

That could be good -- maybe check if that guy has a Wayfinder as well? We can stay close and cover you.

Neera will then start hugging the walls of the room, and remain as inconspicuous as possible while keeping eyes on Channary.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Yep... if those first Pathfinders are who they say they are, the Society will look like a bunch of disorganized idiots. But that might still be the best outcome. If they looted the place in the name of the Society, not antagonizing the guards will be the smallest of our diplomatic worries.

Anyway... let's go see if we can figure out who that Chief of theirs truly is?

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Oh, that's alright Briney... our friend here is only doing her job. Being thorough is commendable, when guarding a site of such cultural and historical importance. I am sure that she will give the same scrutiny to the other group's papers, and that we can all together clear up this misunderstanding.

Neera leaves her papers at the guard's disposal, if she chooses to reinspect them.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera provides her paper to the soldier and nods.

Here you go, Officer. As Pathfinder Pasqualek indicates, we were not made aware of any other expedition. Hopefully you will find our documents to be in order, and we can clear up this minor confusion.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera passes a dry piece of cloth to the sweating Briney.
I believe I'm good to go as well. I wouldn't mind a moonlight hike in the desert. The night sky is beautiful out there, and the weather so much more bearable.
But if some of you do not enjoy the desert nights, we can certainly wait for dusk.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera tips her hat to Norden.

Aye, Venture-Captain. I hope we're all civilized enough to do that.

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera longingly looks at Decaine's Wayfinder.

I hope that we do not ALL need one to enter... the Society hasn't given me one of those yet.

If you'll excuse the question, Venture-Captain... you do seem awfully focused on the risk of us ruffling the guards' feathers. Do you have any reason to think that they would be ill-disposed towards us, or cause us trouble if we do not walk carefully? Or is there anything special that we should know about Osirian to avoid giving offense, beyond common courtesy?

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

Neera smiles uncertainly at the exuberant goblin and waves back.
Hi... friend Briney. Glad to have you with us. Not a fan of the desert, hu? I'd like to say that you get used to it... but I think that'd be lying. Been here for nearly six months, and the place would make me miss the Darklands if people weren't... so much more welcoming here.

She follows Briney to the table, squinting as she leaves the comfortable shade of the fig trees, then awkwardly navigating around the giant crossbow blocking her path. What is this thing? And how the hell will he ever manage to shoot it? By Gorum, I hope that Norden knows what he is doing sending us there.

She then turns to Norden.
This is, purely digging and exploring then, I gather? Or have the Osiriani allowed us to bring you back objects of potential historical interest?

Horizon Hunters

Female Human - Half-Orc Swashbuckler-1

A tall half-orc woman casually lounges against a fig tree, occasionally plucking a fruit from a high branch. She is clad in well-used, hand-tanned deer hides, and a wide brimmed hat protects her from the desert's sun. A large backpack with a carefully wrapped rapier and cased bow stands at her feet.

Thank you, Venture-Captain. I'm glad for this opportunity to work for the Society. Work has been... scarce since I came to Osirion. I ain't much of an archaeologist myself, to be fair, but I'll happily help as I can with the excavation. Carrying rocks and working underground... well, that much I am used to.
