![]() GM Phntm888: Just to let you know since I forgot to mention it I am operating in EST. I was curious about the background I take it that your cool with leaving some things open to integrate in your campaign later. GM Phntm888 wrote: The reason I bring up the "why lamellar" is because I view it as a kind of discounted chain shirt, since it has almost the same benefits but is 40 gp cheaper. Since I gave max starting wealth, the price shouldn't be an issue for a class that would like a more protective light armor. By categorizing it as an Eastern armor, it gives players a chance to come up with a story explaining how they acquired it. I've posed the same question to a couple of other submissions who picked lamellar, so it's not just you. I could simply say that the monster hunting group had a member who was originally from Tian Xia and learned their armor forging skills there or something similar but all I really wanted was a cheap and easy to fix/replace armor that a mercenary group might supply to a junior member and something that gives that rough and tumble mercenary feel(I was balancing against its protective qualities of coarse but the 1 point ac difference isn't a make or break for me). Wasn't really looking for anything that would be unusual for the region so I will just change it to studded leather to keep the feel I was looking for. GM Phntm888 wrote: It was also used more throughout Eastern Europe than Europe as a whole, and I view Varisia as more of a Western European type setting. I tend to associate it mostly with the vikings and maybe the mongols if I think about it but that's probable more my bias so whatever. GM Phntm888 wrote: Since Swift Aid reduces the Aid Another benefit to +1, and Helpful increases the Aid Another benefit to +3 instead of the standard action +2, I'll allow the combination to provide a +2 bonus when using Swift Aid. Helpful gives an increase, but the benefit is still reduced in swift vs. standard action. I wanted the full bonus of coarse but that seems like a good compromise It wouldn't come into play until 9th level anyways so I would have plenty of levels to bring you to my way of thinking. :) lol GM Phntm888 wrote: They work together, but only the damage from the frostbite spell applies to the duration. If you spellstrike using frostbite, the damage from your weapon does not extend the duration, since it is lethal damage. That's how I read it as well so cool. GM Phntm888 wrote: Additional Traits is fine, provided you follow the wording of the feat when selecting the traits. Good to know. ![]()
![]() GM Phntm888: GM Phntm888 wrote: Which city was he born and raised in? + Where did he travel with his uncle and the group during his training? I left these intentionally vague to allow things to be added later in campaign to build GMing hooks from but if you want I can add cities and areas in the background. GM Phntm888 wrote: Has anything specific brought him to Sandpoint, or does he just happening to be passing through as the time for the Swallowtail Festival arrives? The timing is coincidence but the selection of sand port was due to the relative nearness of ruins to the town GM Phntm888 wrote: Why Lamellar instead of chain shirt? Since Lamellar is considered an Eastern armor in Pathfinder, I'd like to know how he got such an exotic armor. I didn't think Lamellar was an exotic armor since it was historically used throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. I was using the Ultimate Equipment guide when selecting equipment and it didn't indicate it as a "Eastern Armor" if its a problem I can change it probably to studded leather. I selected it mainly because I figured it would fit a band of mercenaries that would have to take care of there own armor while on the road sometime with little support. GM Phntm888 wrote: What three spells did you choose to go with the Lore Seeker trait? Please include them in the stat block. + Where is his Favored Class Bonus going? Over site on my part will get those added. Narrater wrote: I did wish to ask how you would rule on a couple of Trait, Feat and spell interactions. the first is the Helpful trait and Swift Aid Another feat. I see it as providing the full +3 benefit when using a swift action for aid another. I was mainly thinking of using it to provide a little martial support while hexing since it fits the Magus's style of casting and attacking in the same round. The second is enforcer + frostbite spell when used with Spellstrike. most DM's I have played with permit the frostbite nonlethal damage to enable the enforcer feat but not everyone so I wanted to check first. And lastly I was thinking of taking the additional trait feat later on and wanted to see if that would be ok. I am asking the questions up front because I see them as important to how the character will eventually play. ![]()
![]() Hello everyone I wish to apologies for taking so long to get back to you. The good news is that my mom is feeling better not 100% but much better then she was. However there has been other things that has come up in the interim that has negatively affected my life that I won't go into. Suffice to say I am just rung out right now and I honestly don't believe I can continue with my GMing duties at this point. I am not sure when things will feel stable enough for me to continue. I wish to apologies again for letting everyone down. I am not sure how everyone would like to proceed. I will check back later to find out and do what I can to transition responsibility if we can find someone else to take up GMing duties. ![]()
![]() Ileana Glides past Kith her dress just brushing the bard as she passes, When nearly to the flying pest she pushes off on her right foot to turn unexpectedly and lunges with her dagger leading. Her other hand pushes at the pummel to drive the thrust home with force killing the creature on the spot. Harold reacts to the elimination of the nearest threat by sprinting into the last enemy who seemed to have turned its attention to Kith. However before it could even move in that direction the full force of Harold's large frame and running charge ends its existence as the half orc leaves the ground for several heart beats his rear foot swinging around to swat the giant bug like creature from the air to land with a sickening crunch at the feet of the two astonished townsfolk.
The immediate situation is handled however the town is still reacting to the fuss as the news takes time to travel to everyone within the minute the sheriff can be seen running to the square with two deputies. Hands on the hilts of there weapons but blades as yet undrawn as they push there way to the front of the crowds that are surging back some to observe the carnage others to lend aid where they can.
I will try to keep your suggestion in mind Kith but I did have the general Initiative order laid out OOC at the top of the page that ended the previous round. Unless your thinking about placing it in list form or some thing similar on each end of round summary. Sera what do you mean PBS? ![]()
![]() Yes I was waiting on Harold and Sera to do there actions and then the beasties and then you and Drusilla would be up. Do I need to change how I am relaying information or something else because It seems that I am laying out what is happening and how things are going and it is being ignored or over looked. Not counting the last clarification since I did give mixed signals by not marking it on the map that was my bad and I can own up to it. Are people loosing interest or something? ![]()
![]() Because of some actions that would have happened last round I will do some creative adjustments to what was outlined and we will start next round right with Ileana, Sera and Harold going then the monsters and then rest of the party. Harold's deftly moves to the flying beast picking his moment to strike at the monster's bug like creature who was currently occupied by the dog's wild lunges unfortunately one of the dogs wild attacks stirred the beast to move just high enough to leave Harold swinging at air the moment he chooses to swing. The action alerts the beast as it turns to face this new foe. I believe this would have been last rounds actions to compensate you for losing the turn I am placing you at the top of the Initiative order as if you had used the delay action. With its progress curtailed the creature begins to clamp onto Drusilla and try's to stab the young woman of the wild. However Drusilla's reflexes honed with time spent traveling dangerous lands react on reflex her mailed hand sweeps the probing stinger to the side as her other hand finds its mark with the knife and the creature is still. Leaving Drusilla only a moment behind her sister.Your attack of opportunity was successful and did enough damage to kill it. The child seems to hesitate for a heart beat at Ileana's order but decides to obey after weighing the excitement of fighting real live monsters against facing the prospect of getting "it" from an angry adult. Seeing that the child was obeying and that her twin had handily dispatched her attacker Ileana continued forward to face off against the flying beast that had been endangering the child and was still attacking the dog. With economical movements Ileana closes the distance between herself and the bug taking advantage of its distracted state as it turns to face Harold Ileana jams her dagger into the creatures side with both hands before pulling it free the creature try's to stay aloft but can't put any strength behinds its flaps and is soon in the waiting jaws of the dog. Sera as you leg it towards the fighting the crowds seem to open to allow you to pass. You hear voices in the crowd talking about your skill with the bow but you pay it little mind as you make your way to within spitting distance of the entrance of the small park. you are now 20 feet from the edge of the board. Everything should be well within the first range increment. Kith you move to centralized position and begin to sing your voice reaches out and seems to touch there very being. Those close to you seem to stand a little straighter as they face the creatures. The flying monsters on the other hand seem to be becoming very agitated. So every one within 30 feet of Kith gains a +1 to charm and fear as well as a +1 to attack and damage. ![]()
![]() The twins move together and rush to the aid of the young boy who appears to be no older then 5 or 6 he is dirty as if he has been playing in the mud and is carrying on throwing stones at the creature with the reckless bravery of youth. Your movement stirs up the creature who had been focused on the man wielding a rake and the flying beast attempts to strike at the two of you as you pass. Drusilla to keep up with Ileana you would need to forgo fighting defensively but you will be in position to defend your sister. Its unfortunate since it would have made the difference.
Enemy Attack:
Touch attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 With Ileana's focus on the child one of the beasts attempts to slip in but is intercepted by Drusilla as she moves her body to intercept the attack. Leaving her to wrestle with the creature as it attempts to stick its long beak past armor into flesh. It doesn't seem to have any form of Improved Grapple so I am going to give you an attack of opportunity if unsuccessful or you don't kill it in one hit you will take one con damage at the end of the turn and may make grapple or escape artist check DC17 to escape etc next turn. Kith moves towards the park but has a little difficulty climbing over the stone wall which takes several moments to get past slowing your advance Your character is a little ways from the action about 25 feet from the nearest enemy and close to 40 feet from the twins. I am uncertain how close you are looking to be so let me know. Sera forgoes shooting with her bow to move closer to combat but the weight of her armor and the press of the crowd makes progress painfully slow. With a double move you are 100 feet from the edge of the board you can attempt to make a acrobatics check next round if you wish to run and get into the fight faster. Harold I moved your character up since you haven't made any adjustments last round if your still having issues moving your piece please let me know. I am waiting on you at this point to finish off the round. ![]()
![]() Upon working your way past the crowds you find several towns people being attacked by these creatures that have a very bug like appearance but with to sets of bat like wings. Two of the creatures have already been severely wounded and possibly killed. There bodies lie unmoving near the southern portion of the tiny park area. Near the unmoving carcass on the east side of the park a man sits stunned having nearly been stabbed by the dead things nearly foot long beak having been saved by the timely intervention of an arrow. Just a little ways from the southern opening to the park along the edge of the stone fence on the east side of the park are two men being attacked by one of the creatures. one of the men is much older and seems to be unarmed mostly trying to shoo or distract the creature with his cloak while the other carrying a sword and shield is taking great pains to kill the creature he may be one of the sheriff's deputies. Nearer the middle of the park are a man and woman each fending off one of the creatures with improvised weapons. The woman is currently using a wooden bucket to defend herself while the man is swinging a wooden rake both seem to be barely holding there own against the monsters. Finally there is a child on the steps of the gazebo who is throwing rocks at one of the beasts while a dog most likely the one you heard initially is leaping and snapping at the creature as it flits about. they seem to have the creature at bay for the moment. ![]()
![]() Ileana and Drusilla push past the remaining crowd with Ileana in the lead. They spill into the open area where they are confronted with five flying menaces actively attacking about a half dozen towns people. As one of the townsman looses his footing fighting off the nasty looking beast an arrow seems to sprout from its side and it makes a few weak flaps before sliding to the ground announcing Sera's continued support to the fight. As the twins are taking in the scene Harold bursts from the crowd like a bull elephant with Kith following several heart beats after as the crowd had seemingly opened up for him to pass as he ran to catch up. I am hoping everyone has access to the map at this point to place characters on the board after my change with the permissions. Everyone should be able to see what your facing at this point and may peak at the previous descriptions and may make knowledge (arcana) checks to figure out what your dealing with on a DC 11 so no untrained checks. Kith and Sera your the easiest, Kith you have 10 feet of movement left leaving you just on the board and Sera you should be 20 feet closer from the edge leaving you at 140 feet from the edge. Now Harold I believe you have a total of 70 feet of movement if you want to vault over the wall I will allow it with the current acrobatics roll you have. Ileana you made your acrobatics roll and have 100 feet of movement unless you want to act since you and Drusilla may move 10 feet and still have a standard action left. Its up to you. and that will be end of round three unless the twins wish to take actions aside from there movement. ![]()
![]() The Ladies:
The twins move close enough that the crowds are starting to thin however there is still enough chaos that you can only gain fleeting glances of the creatures as they flit about attacking the locals. Sera attempts another shot after moving forward some more unfortunately the creature zigs unexpectedly from the path of the arrow and the arrow ends up embedded into the gazebo. That should leave Ileana and Drusilla at 70 feet from the action. Next round a move action will place both of you on the board with 10 feet to spare. Sera since the board is up you should assume you are 160 feet from the edge of the board at this point and calculate your shots against enemies and movement from there. The Gentleman:
Kith is still lagging behind even as Harold must slow down to avoid crashing into a older gentleman who seemed to appear unexpectedly when Harold took his eyes off the crowds as he ran while attempting to determine the cause of the disturbance. I believe that Kith should be at 180 feet and Harold at 120 feet from the town square. Assuming a good acrobatic role you could find yourself on the board next round with movement to spare Harold. Assuming no change you are about 2 rounds from reaching the board Kith. At 50 feet for the ladies and 70 feet for the gentleman you can place your characters on the battle board labeled gazebo under campaign info and any remaining movement may be done on that board. The ladies will come on the field from the bottom and the gentleman will be coming in from the left of the board. Your character pictures are on the right side of the board. ![]()
![]() The ladies:
Sera makes as if to run but doesn't make it too far before spotting the enemy and decides to use her bow upon seeing what is actually causing the disturbance. As the creatures dip and flit around her aim proves true as her arrow finds one of the creatures neck it may have cried out in shock but what ever noise is made is lost among the chaos and distance as it falls from the air and lost to your sight. As the twins begin to weave through the crowd at a run Sera's actions open a space for them to run through and they take advantage of it staying close to each other as they make good time in the direction of the action. That should leave Sera at 230 feet from the town square. While Ileana and Drusilla should be 130 feet from the town square. That gives you the twins the opportunity to make another Perception check if you wish to try and make the higher perception role. The Gentleman:
Still uncertain of the danger Harold bellows to move as he runs towards the town square. While many part for the large man some are left shocked in place forcing Harold to move around them showing a grace that belies his frame. Leaving kith to follow in his wake as people seem to close after Harold forcing Kith to pick through the crowds. That should leave Kith at 240 feet and Harold at 180 feet from the town square. That will end round ONE. another acrobatics check will be necessary to continue weaving through the crowd until within 50 feet of the town square.
![]()
![]() Your previous perception rolls are fine Ileana. Sera I am assuming you made a single move and then took your shot that would leave you at the second possibly third range increment of your bow. I will say it was the second for this attack and you hit one of the outlying enemies. you will need to move farther forward about another 20 to 40 feet to continue to stay within that second range increment. For everyone that wishes to run this round I will need those Acrobatics check (DC 14) or I am going to assume you are keeping it to a hustle (Double Move). Also anyone that didn't make there Perception check can make another once they reach 150 feet from the gazebo with a 2 point drop in the difficulty. At 50 feet your close enough to see what is going on without a roll. Anyone that successfully makes the higher DC perception check can see enough to role Knowledge Arcana DC 11 I guess we can call this round 1 at this point. I believe the round is breaking down to Sera moving and then shooting her bow with Drusilla and Ileana currently moving past her at a hustle in the direction of the disturbance. With Kith and Harold planning to run full tilt towards the fight? Since we already have our first successful attack might as well role initiative. I will write up a summary of the round once I am certain of everyone's actions. ![]()
![]() Any one trying to move to the gazebo at a run will need to role an Acrobatics check DC 14 or be forced to move at a hustle for that round as they fight through the crowds. As each of your groups moves towards the center of the disturbance you must contend with the crowds as you move. A few of the people are moving with you towards the disturbance but none at the same pace while others are content to hold what ground they have and still others of the townsfolk have taken to fleeing from whatever is causing the disturbance. Making for a chaotic press of bodies with bottlenecks along your path. Perception DC 14:
At this range you can see hovering above the gazebo a half dozen creatures that seem to have bodies that hang sack like from four bat like wings. They flit about the area with a unnatural grace for there appearance. If you make this perception role and have a weapon with enough range you may take shots at these unnatural looking creatures. Also if you take a further -2 penalty your shots will have no chance of hitting any civilians if you miss.(not that you would it will simply add an extra trust point since it will be obvious that picked your shots to strike buildings to prevent arrows from hitting bystanders in the case of a miss or you can just hit all your shots if you don't take the penalty :) ) Perception DC 18: ![]()
![]() You finish speaking with councilwoman Straelock and begin you search for Councilwoman Shanda Faravan it takes a while for you to find the councilwoman as your directed to her house and when she doesn't appear to be home you eventually find a helpful neighbor who directs you back to the square. As your group arrives back at the town square around the time of the noon meal the frantic barking of a dog seems to dominate the air. As other town folk are drawn to the barking a scream splits the air adding to the chaos. What ever is going on the source of the disturbance seems to be near the gazebo. ------------- As you finish your meal the frantic barking of a dog draws the attention of a few of the tavern patrons until a scream is heard moving the rest from there seats to find out what might be happening. What ever is happening it seems to be going on near the town square. The action appears to be happening at the gazebo which is found at point A on the town map. The gentleman in the laughing demon are about 300 feet away while the Ladies are about 250 feet away on the road that runs between points I and F on the map. ![]()
![]() The councilwoman seems to come to some conclusion though your uncertain it is an accurate one. Oh I see you poor dear. It is good of you to look after your sister that way. While giving Drusilla a reassuring smile Mrs Straelock reaches out and gives Ileana an almost motherly squeeze on her shoulder. Well then I guess it would be ok for her to hang around as long as your willing to vouch for her good conduct. ------------------------- Giving you both a lopsided Smile the councilman answers Kith. The way Vash tells it you and your friends are going to bring trouble to Ravengro. Now I certainly don't think that way so there is no reason for you to earn my trust. Besides I can't say there is anything that the town needs that we require help with but I appreciate the offer and will keep it in mind. As to the bad blood between some of the townspeople and Kendra I am sure that will blow over in a week or so and People will get on with there lives once they see nothing is going to happen. As long as you and your friends keep your noses clean I wouldn't expect much to come of it. ![]()
![]() The councilwoman shakes her head positively as she answers Ileana's question. I am sure there are several farms that could use hands for honest work. I could ask around but I can make no promises. ---------- Councilman Muricar takes a seat as he scans one of the menu's. I did hear of that ruckus as I understood it didn't amount to much just some superstitious folks getting nervous about a curse on the town or some such nonsense. ![]()
![]() Councilwoman Straelock turns back to Ileana. The offer stands for you as well Miss Ileana. I would feel uncomfortable offering any more then 2 people such an opportunity at least with out consulting the rest of the council and you both seem like two upstanding and presentable young ladies. The councilwoman clears her throat and seems to make an effort to over look Drusilla as she speaks. --------------- Zokar nods his head in understanding. I can appreciate that. The folks can get bored even with good talent if they hear you too often. Just let me know ahead of time when you want to appear on stage. Zokar is about to leave for the back when Councilman Gharen Muricar walks in. Zokar bee lines for the salt and pepper haired man and they chat for a minute before he leads the spry looking older gentleman back to your table. May I present Harold Grimsley and Kith Jeova I believe you have an acquaintance in common the late Professor Lorrimor. The councilman nods his head as he speaks. Yes, Yes I remember the man he was a bit of a queer duck that one but I guess most wizards are. A good guy though he could almost keep up with me when chasing the bottom of a mug and his tales where always good for a listen. Certainly a loss to the world. ![]()
![]() I assume you are trying to get access to the council library Sera. If you do wish to clerk for the town it would mean losing about 1/2 a work day each day you partake in research using that library since they will be asking you to perform odd jobs while you are there. Since you will be working for the town I will also say that you would gain some trust points as well as long as you kept to the half research. Councilwoman Straelock cocks her head at a slightly odd angle as she takes Sera in for a moment almost in the manor of a cat. I certainly wouldn't mind a extra pair of hands at the Town Hall I couldn't pay you for your trouble but if you do have an interest in our towns histories I could let you browse them in trade. ---------------- Zokar doesn't answer you at first as he sees the both of you to a table and offers up the menu's. [b]Alika says you have a voice like an angel. Zokar seems some what skeptical of the claim. I will let you sing for the customers. Whether you stay or not will be up to them. If you do well enough and help me with some of the prep work in the evenings I will give you a nice meal for your troubles so at least you don't go hungry. So Kith you will be able to roll against your skill to make a little coin on the side and will be able to make some trust points for the group in the process. What if any trust points you earn will also be based on that roll. ![]()
![]() No your roll of 26 is certainly good enough to begin the conversation. You now have your foot in the door its up to you what you do with it. If there are any more Diplomacy roles needed during this conversations I will let you know in most cases they should be during critical points when you are attempting to sway the councilwoman on a particular point. Right now your group appears fairly impressive to the councilwoman and she has taken a shine to Ileana in particular. The councilwoman recovers from her initial shock and answers the greetings. It is a pleasure to meet you. Then you where acquaintances of the late Mr Lorrimor or friends of Kendra? Either way I take it that you have something you would like to talk about. ------------------------------ Zokar waves you over as you enter the Laughing Demon. Good to see you. Good to see you. The councilman hasn't stopped in yet but take a table if you wait I will direct him to you. Then you can talk over lunch. ![]()
![]() Councilwoman Straelock is surprised to hear her name spoken by a unfamiliar voice. When she turns to acknowledge it she seems to hesitate for several moments with her answer as three formidable looking woman all stand nearby there attention focused on her. Leaving her answer subdued as a result. Um Yes. ![]()
![]() Your group decides your separate missions and head out. Kith and Harold head out with Kendra as she makes the rounds of the local shops making purchases to fill the larder for at least the next week. She also makes inquires into a helper for the house. The trip takes about 2 hours all told and while there was a few faces that you remember from the mob who gave you hard looks in passing the presence of Harold and Kith seem to have kept them in line enough to keep them only to those hate filled stares.
