Ultimately, it began to feel more like a job than a hobby...<< I have to get a post in...don't want to hold the game up >> It slowly dawned on me that I just wasn't looking forward to posting, even though I enjoy each of the games I'm in immensely. When something you enjoy becomes something you don't, it's time to re-evaluate. Though it's a hard decision, I've decided to take a hiatus from the boards. Apologies to players and GMs leaving you in the lurch, so to say.

Wanting nothing more than to dive back into the darkness and smoke to find the old man who had betrayed them, both her own hurts and the state of her cousin and the others , led her to reluctantly agree to find solace outside the evil city. Eyes narrowed in concentration, Rowenn lent her skills in surviving the wilderness...

Morwenn was still gazing out into the smoke, when Tilly brought her cousin's condition to her attention. Rushing to his side, she holds his head as Waylon's song, it's hidden power obvious to her. To her relief, Ardamin speaks then falls asleep. To the others, "If his wife was here... I don't have great hopes for her survial...still we must make the attempt. " The weariness and pain in her voice does not dim her determination.
Aching all over , her breath coming in gasps, Morwenn nonetheless straightens, sheaths her sword and asks, "Where's that old man..."
Yeah, hope all is well Tilly. GM, I have all the confidence in the world in you ability to spin a tale for the ages !!! No pressure... :D
Morwenn continues her assault on the wolf worrying at her leg...
The warg's howl assails Morwenn's resolve but she shakes off the disheartening feeling and renew's her attack..
Though the wolves bites are telling, Morwenn fights on, slicing down upon the wolf currently worrying her leg....
As the other wolf presses it's attack, Morwenn realizes she must get the one wolf off of her leg, swinging her sword back around and down upon it's back...
Indeed, have a great party, Tilly and Tilly's son!! :) I'm in the same boat GM, the little ones grow up too fast!
Morwenn grits her teeth to pevent herself from crying out when the wolf latches onto her leg. Her face a mask of grim determination, she raised her sword in both hands and sweeps it down upon the savage canine...
Morwenn draws upon her inner well of hope and with a burst of energy throws the wolf off of her, then presses her advantage, long sword cutting the air....
Morwenn gasps as the wolf's jaws close in on her, holding her fast! With a wrench she tries to free herself!
Morwenn glares at the old man, her heart breaking at yet another example of the weakness of Man in the face of shadow. Despite her wound, she draw her sword with a cry, "We are betrayed!" She spies a defensible hillock nearby...
Morwenn winces from the pain the burning timber had inflicted on her, but her mouth sets with resolve as she decides to continue looking...however another large timber falls right in front of her, showering her with sparks. See the futility of continuing on, Morwenn gets her bearings and makes her way out of the inferno...pausing now and then to look into or under the burning abodes...
... but she finds nothing and no-one. Emerging from the smoke and flames, she stumbles over to Essylt, her injury plain to see, "I'm sorry, I could find no-one alive in there..."
Try as she might, Morwenn can't avoid some burning timbers that fall from out of the smoke. Hissing from the pain, she continues on, coming across some that had already succumbed to the smoke and flames...
... for some reason the sight of the burned bodies disturbs Morwenn greatly, making her pause in her search as feelings roil within her. Shaking her head to clear the dark thoughts that had risen up within, Morwenn plunges deeper into the inferno...
Morwenn shakes her head at Essylt's lack of information, but nonetheless plunges into the smoke with her friends. Coughing, eye's watering from the smoke, she casts about the burning village...
Morwenn grabs Essylt by the shoulders and makes the panicked woman meet her eyes, "Tell me where!" she demands.
Morwenn's initial instinct is to plunge into the mist in search of the woman whose scream ended so abuptly. However, when two of her friends rush to follow Cymbal's command, she nods at their wisdom and runs to safety with the woad-painted hillmen.
Really getting into the spirit of things, Morwenn matches Primrose's mirth and launches a clod of mud!
Despite herself, Morwenn face transforms as a wide smile spreads across it. Heaving mud with great abandon, she joins in with the frivolity!
Morwenn watches the drama unfold before her, then with a sigh, resolves to assist with the muddy endeavour as much as she can. ...
... but her skills with damp dirt leave much to be desired.
As the other speak, Morwenn nods, impressed with her companion's earnest description of their endeavor. "It is as they say, we seek a hobbit and a woman, both taken from their homes. You seem a forthright and honest man, Cynbal, if your people have laid claim to these ruins, so be it. We want no quarrel with you , only those who have taken our family, who follow the Shadow."
As the group had approached the ruined city, Morwenn grew quiet...well quieter. For the greater danger the area presented, but also for the disquiet the remains of the glory of Arnor stirred within her. When the arrow sails out of concealment, her own, already knocked comes around, but she does not raise it. Instead she steps forward, ready to fire, to stand beside Primrose, stopping when the voice commands. "Trespasser, you say? Who would lay claim to the fallen glory of Arnor?" she asks, regarding the old man levelly, noting the blue face markings, muttering to the others, "Hillmen it would seem...."
Morwenn's eyes tighten at the mention of Fornost Erain, "The site of ancient Arnor's capital, brought low by the armies of Angmar! Helped by the hillmen of Rhudaur, known to cover their faces with the woad...blue markings" She looks to each of her friends, "Seems there's a meeting of ancient evil occuring in those ruins...I have for good readon skirted its edges, it has a deathly reputation."
Her face a mix of dismay, pity and remorse, Morwenn strides forward to embrace her cousin, clasping him close. Stepping back, her hands on his shoulders, "Ardamir...cousin. You faced a horrible choice, one I cannot say I'd have resolved differently. We've met the creature you describe, fought it in the forest by Combe. " she pauses here, "Pregnant....and in the hands of those devils! " She looks to the others, hoping they felt the same, "Now we have two to find! Cousin! Which way did they take the hobbit? Most likely, he'd be held the same place they hold your wife."
Indeed, rest..
Morwenn's face is closed and pinched as she follows her cousin back towards the others, but her visage grows rueful at both Waylons common-sensical and Sirothel's noble words. She waits, standing behind her cousin, for his reaction...
Morwenn takes Ardamir's push impassively allowing him to move her a pace away, "Accuse? No. " she says impatiently, running a hand through her hair, "This band of thugs as you say are all free men, with a noble purpose....doing their duty as you have done." She regards her cousin with the same impatience, tinged with some little bit of pity, "You have been selective in your tale, Ardamir, as I said earlier, ease your burden and tell me what ails you."
Morwenn strides forward and grasps her cousin's arm, and propels him further into the hobbit house, holding her hand up to the others to prevent them following. Once she has Ardamir a sufficient distance away, she pushes him up against the wall and leans in, "Something troubles you , cousin. Unburden yourself, tell me what shadow had fallen over you." she states plainly, her tone brooking no dissent.
Morwenn listens to her cousin answer the other's questions, knowing the right of it, his duty to watch over a swath of land, in solitude when rightly is should be 10 men to do the job right. Still, she knew her people were susceptible to the lure of the Shadow, and so gauged her cousins responses...
Morwenn smiles as her two comoanions pepper her cousin with questions, We come seeking...answers, cousin. The town of Combe was all but destroyed by a band of brigands..who were seeking a hobbit...the hobbit whose domicile this is." She indicates the dead man on the floor, "This man was bringing that hobbit a message....Cousin, why are you here?"
Morwenn cries out, "Hold! He is known to me!" She advances on the man, "Adramir! You know me, yes?" she asks, holding a hand up to forestall any action by her companions.
Morwenn frowns as the ground grows more rocky, her gaze intent, looking for signs of the message bearers passage..
Morwenn was still down on one knee, pointing out the diverging tracks, watching the rear of Primrose's pony bouncing away, a wry smile on her lips. Standing, she dusts off her trousers, and looks to Adair, "A most sensible suggestion." |
