| Morvern |
I'd like to submit a half-elf conjurer.
Morvern Solari's mother was an ambitious young social climber who attached herself to the Korvosan diplomatic corps long enough
to find an exotic elven lover. When this union resulted in a child the father showed only a mild interest, and when he transferred away he left behind a polite letter and a modest stipend to aid the single mother in raising her child. The combination of heartbreak and
windfall led the young woman to begin a life time as a career alcoholic.
Morvern grew up ashamed of his mother's increasingly tawdry ways and longing to live up to the legacy he imagined for his distant father. He turned his natural intelligence towards magic, hoping to earn prestige by training at the Acadamae. He did well enough there, though he endured frequent teasing from his peers about his wastrel mother.
Eventually she drank through her remaining money and became indebted to the wrong sorts of people. Her inability to pay led thugs to come calling on Morvern at his Acadamae residence, suggesting that he should be the one to pay for his mother's debts. Angry words and well placed cantrips drove them off, but Morvern's anger and shame were evident to all.
When Morvern's mother turned up dead an eyewitness described an angry confrontation between a shamed Morvern and an unrepentant mother down by
the docks. A search of his dorm found a dagger still bearing traces of blood among his possessions. Some uncharitable authorities were willing
to believe a resentful half-elf could murder his own mother in a fit of rage, but a few other members of the Acadamae knew better. Their
interrogation of the witness revealed Morvern's innocence and extracted the name Gaedren Lamm. Morvern was freed but the incident cost him
his career at the Academae. and the recanted testimony soon cost the witness his life.
Now Morvern has nothing left of the life he hoped to lead, his past and future are gone. Gaedren Lamm has taken it all.
A straight up specialist wizard, no multi-classing planned. Probably with enchantment and necromancy as opposition schools. Planning on being Neutral Good. I think the way his background is set up I could choose one of several campaign traits, which might help to avoid overlapping traits among party members.
