Since the darkmantle has retreated out of Molasbar's line of sight, he just nocks an arrow and waits for it to re-emerge, or for his allies to confirm it is slain.

Does this shard look identical to Aurie's? Is there any difference in color, size, material, etc.? Anything Molasbar could use to try and figure out which shard it might be?

Molasbar won't physically try to stop Aurie from going to it. But if she does hesitate, he'll cast detect poison and detect magic on the shard and the stand.

"Shathee!" Seeing his color and wounds, Molasbar draws a scroll. He casts it on Shathee. "It may help purge the evil from your veins."

Seeing the continued effectiveness of the fire, Molasbar readies and hurls a second flask of alchemist fire at the aberration.

Molasbar readies a flask of fire, looking past his friends for a line to throw at the creature.

Ready an action to throw a flask at the last one. Between the door, stairs and PCs in the way, I don't know that I can get it in there. And I'm not going to charge in past the others. If I get a throw, to hit 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12, damage 1d6 ⇒ 4.

Molasbar follows the others up to the doorway. When he sees the melee happening, he recalls what Cimrodel said about fire. He mutters an arcane syllable and stretches out his hands. A gout of flame shoots out, engulfing the creature Shathee is engaged with.

Not sure where Doc will end up, but I think I can shoot burning hands towards the north, catching the creature but no allies. It does 3d4 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) = 8 fire damage, DC 15 reflex save for half damage.

Molasbar follows along behind Aurie, visibly concerned about her mental state and the "compulsions" she has described.

I'd be good chipping in for a wand. And I think I'll buy three alchemist fires and three acids, along with a bandolier to stash them in.

I think we should go back via the sewers. I'm not sure what's driving Aurie's compulsion to go down the stairs, but the sooner we get there the less likely she is to end up getting irrational about it.

I agree. Just this time, let's pay full price. I'm worried the longer we wait, the more likely it is that Aurie may disappear on us and go solo due to a compulsion.

Before Aurie goes in to deliver the news, Molasbar does his best with prestidigitation to clean her up and diminish the odor issue.

When they return, Molasbar will lift the his everburning torch high and let the more able lead the way back to where we'll meet up with Lockerbie.

"I think we should retreat for the moment and deliver the locket. Should we fail down here, the locket becomes lost again and the poor widow learns nothing."

While Molasbar won't conduct an extensive search, he will swim above the wreck and use his active see invisible and detect magic to scan the wreck overall for anything obvious.

Molasbar swims just a little closer before he casts a spell and lobs a bit of acid at one of the reefclaws.

GM, I'm not sure if you saw my question buried in the roleplay texts.

Can Cimrodel or I take 10 to spellcraft to cast from the scroll? The DC of the spellcraft check is 23, and we both have a spellcraft of +13. That means taking 10 would give us an automatic success (barely).

Molasbar says "Cimrodel, I will let you do the honors." He tucks the scroll he was holding in his backpack, then leans the pack against the wall. "The spell won't protect any of your belongs from the water, so if something concerns you" he gestures to his backpack "like my spellbook, it is best to leave it here."

Molasbar looks thoughtful at Shathee's question. "The spell itself does not tell what to expect when the spell comes over you, and I have never seen it in action myself." He pauses then adds "I have spent the last century reading and listening to every story, tale and account of adventures that I could find in the libraries of Kyonin. Some tales said it felt like you were suddenly suffocating when you try to breath air. Others said it filled your lungs with water, which felt as natural as a breath of cool air. However, if my time with the lot of you has shown me anything, just tales of adventure are a poor substitute for true experience. Which I guess we will acquire shortly."

With that, Molasbar casts two spells in preparation. Casting mage armor and see invisible.

And then he orders "Wisp, stay here."

Examining the second scroll, Molasbar nods as Cimrodel delivers his assessment.

"That is all true, except for one detail. If you look at the accents on these symbols here, it indicates plurality. The caster may touch more than one during the execution of the spell. That tells me that the power of the spell can be pushed to more than one person. I'd estimate that all of us could benefit from one scroll's power for an hour. That would leave us a second scroll to use if we fail with the first, or to add to our spell trove if one suffices."

The spell's duration is two hours per level. Minimum caster level on the scroll is 5th, so that is ten hours. It can be split between as many recipients as the caster touches when casting, so more than an hour each.

Edit: GM, as I read the rules, I believe Cimrodel or I could take 10 when casting as long as it is not under duress. That would guarantee success for either of us to use the scroll with a spellcraft of +13 and a DC of 23. Am I understanding that correctly?

Molasbar narrows his eyes at how quickly the sinspawn's have closed with Aurie. He concentrates on trying to predict their movements to avoid shafting his own friend.

"Do you know how long you've been down here." Molasbar swallows hard, feeling an odd sense of sympathy for what should be a clear undead menace to be slain. "Um, do you have family we might tell of your fate? Or something we could bring you to make this existence more tolerable?"

Molasbar stashes his bow and takes up the torch from the ground, holding it aloft for extra light.

When the creature strikes Doc so viciously, Molasbar flinches and takes an involuntary step back, almost going off the walkway. He steadies himself and draws back his bow. Having had little luck hitting the elusive eel, he focuses on his divination studies and tries to predict where the eel will be.

Molasbar draws back his bow again, trying to skewer the creature with another arrow.

With the splashing of the moray's attack, Molasbar knows they're going to be losing any chance to surprise the sea shanty singer. So he tells the group "A cave moray! It can strike twice as far as you are tall, and it isn't bothered by the dark."

He shoots an arrow at it. To hit 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16, Damage 1d8 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6

Molasbar nods to Shathee, acknowledging that he hears it too. He quietly murmurs a spell mage armor on himself. He opens his pouch and tells Wisp, his thrush familiar, "Inside, my friend.". Once the bird is safely tucked away, he readies his bow and waits for a warrior to lead the way.
