Miyaro listens carefully to the prisoner's reply. She casts a spell to enhance the diplomacy of an ally if anyone can speak the creature's language.
They young woman lines up her shot with the crossbow carefully to avoid harming her friends as they close to fight the creatures. She squeezes off her shot when the opening presents itself.
The sorceress has quietly been listening, but at the gunman's warning, she readies her bow and casts a spell on her quiver.
Aw, you're getting ready to go the land of sun and sand and you thought enough to stop and give us a status update? You must really like us! Or it's a subtle brag for us to stew over while he's enjoying himself... Being an eternal optimist, I choose #1!
Busy, busy. I'm trying (again) to find that work/life balance I've heard so much about. ;) Means I obsess less about reading and responding to posts here, but it also means (so far this semester) that I keep up better with my classwork. Here's hoping I can maintain the current state of affairs. You?
She nods, a little excited that the sorcerer seemed to agree with her, "Yes, a consecrated place is what you need to find, perhaps a shrine or a church. Not just a place where people gather, but one genuinely blessed to remove even the transient taint of evil."
"A particularly nasty spell. Certainly not appropriate to use against a random group of strangers unless the caster is particularly cruel." She looks at the wounded man. "How well do you know the area? We need to find holy ground before the healing will take full effect."
Looking thoughtful, the girl says, "I think there is some sort of negative energy effect in play here. It must be offsetting the positive energy of the healing that's been attempted, like a poison, but worse. The spell you describe does not sound familiar to me, however."
"I am no professional, but I have been told I have a knack. May I have a look?"
"Would you object if I attempted a curative blessing? I do not wish to offend your beliefs. How did you come to have this wound? Who struck you?"
Tatsuo grimaces as Miya points out yet another hidden person. While under the wagon could be an excuse, up a tree seemed far less reasonable. Sora expressed her companion's distaste by growling softly. As he waits for a response to Miya's question, he softly addresses the rest of the group. "Didn't we fight some dog-faced people a while back? On the island? I want to say they were gnolls." Miyaro watches the tree where she thought she saw the hidden man, but nods at Tatsuo's comment. "Yes, I believe that is the term. And Daresh has some in her employ, correct?"
The girl speaks up. "We are traveling through and mean no harm. If we can aid you, it's only right to do so. If the man in the tree seeks to do harm to us, things are likely to go poorly for him. What are his intentions?"
Miyaro holds back, watching for other threats even as she processes the man's remark. Dog-men?

Seeing the others' sudden concern for the road ahead, Miyaro checks her crossbow and readies an action to conjure up some ammunition if it should become necessary.
The one with the date matching his death date That's my thought, as well.
Miyaro has pointed out the one clue she sees. She doesn't feel like she has been around enough to have earned the right to push the party in one direction or another, so she keeps her mouth shut. She just waits for the others to determine a direction.
Muses, "The meteorite crater's date matches his death date on the stone. Do you think that's significant? Goblin country doesn't sound inviting, though."
"May I?" Miyaro reaches for the map to see if she recognizes anything.
As a bit of advanced warning, it's that time of the semester when my posting may become very sporadic. I need to bury myself deep in my studies to wrap things up and survive the final. I will try to check in on a daily basis, but I make no promises. Well, I make one promise: I will be back.
"Mind if I look at the journal?"
"Oh, wow. I can't read it, but I've seen it before. This is from the ancient Azlantean - Azlantic - Azlan... The language is Azlanti, whatever you call the people that spoke it."
She yanks her hand back at Del's reaction. Nodding as he displays some of his magic talent, she says, "A useful one. Sadly, one I lack."
Miyaro hesitantly reaches in to pull the journal from the corpse's grasp.
Miyaro coughs once and her eyes water, but the stench doesn't drive her off. She readies an action, if the corpse attacks, to assault whatever consciousness it might have. Don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try... Psychic Strike, DC 14:
Miyaro looks around at the others and thinks about her options. She readies her shield and morningstar and moves opposite Conner.
"We want to know what you know about that." She points at the casket with its unusually vigorous lock.
She shrugs, "Yes and no. If you try to wield that which you are not powerful enough to wield, you might be successful, be it sword or spell. Or you might injure someone. In time, the spell should be in reach, but I would prefer to only use it in the event of an emergency. I've seen..." She purses her lips, "A friend overstepped her abilities while we were training. She recovered and most wounded was her pride, but it could have been much worse."
"Dimension door can be useful, but it might be more powerful than we can cast right now. What do you ask in return?"
"We thought you were not allowed to enter the cemetery..."
Yikes. I hope you are on the mend!
Miyaro points at the man and says, "Hear me..." Whispering, she says, "Veoden, we are to your left. Come, we have found him."
"There's Veoden. He seems to be searching for something. Maybe he knows more about this before we try to move it."
"It looks heavy. My magic could help someone's ability to carry it."
"I wonder if it is related to the curse."
"The mage mentioned it. The eldest son of each generation would die on the same date at the same age of a withering disease, I believe. If Dairoo had no son, the superstitious must feel that he did not pass it on. I wonder what the date was. I would suppose it would have been significant - this doesn't sound like an accident, but the work of something more than mortal, don't you think?"
Looking over the graveyard, Miyaro suggests, "If we divide up into two groups, we could search adjacent areas, move faster, and still be able to assist if we find anything else that not enjoying it's long rest."
"Dairoo... we're not in the right place, are we? This could get us in trouble with the locals." |
