I still play Runelords. I have a Flenta-Kyra-Lem solo campaign going, although I haven't played it in a while; and I recently finished a Lem-Valeros campaign with a friend. I'll probably buy the Season adventures at some point.

I don't even play Shackles anymore (and regret buying it, for the most part), and I skipped Wrath completely.

Your character dies immediately if you ever need to remove (draw, discard, etc.) cards from your deck and you can't because there aren't enough cards left in your deck.

So, in the situation you specified, your character would die at the end of the turn.

I've soloed Flenta through Runelords, and I'd recommend her. She has some trouble with non-combat checks in the early going, but she doesn't have any d4 stats, at least; and as an Arcane Pretender later, she can use the role's two spell recharge powers to comfortably handle most situations. Being a Fighter at the beginning, she's very effective at combat checks throughout the campaign.

I had a good enough time that I may eventually do it again, either the normal way, or using only her class deck cards to construct her base deck (a la organized play).

I'll probably also try Feiya as a Hexer, at some point. I think she'd do fairly well.

Whatever works. :P

Either way, I imagine the end results are pretty close.

Holy crap you run a lot of armor.

Eh, normally I prefer three damage reduction cards, tops; but in this case I picked up the Sihedron Ring early in adventure 6 and replaced my Staff of Minor Healing with it, because I knew the staff would be nearly useless for me at the very end. Then I failed to get an additional useful item at any point afterwards, including from the Assault on the Pinnacle reward, even though I took special care to defeat as many banes as possible there -- heck, I purposely encountered The Thing From Beyond Time.

It was kind of funny, though: I also picked up the Ring of Energy Resistance during Into the Eye.

I've done two single-character Runelords runs with Flenta now: a partial one up to Into the Mountains, which I stopped because I took the Arcane +2 power, which I felt was undesirable after testing it for a while; and a second all the way through the campaign.

Pre-role, she was pretty much what I expected: being a fighter, she outclasses Runelords Lini for ease of combat -- which doesn't change post-role -- but her mediocre non-combat abilities give her trouble in some spots. Here Comes the Flood was especially problematic for me during the second run, although it also didn't help that I rolled 4s quite often for Magga.

I found Force Missile, Lightning Touch and Acid Arrow pains in the neck. In the first run, I took the Arcane +2 power ASAP, but it really doesn't help. I don't think I'd take it again unless I didn't want hand size 7 during adventure 3 for some reason.

The other spells had their moments, but aren't really things I'd like to be casting all the way through adventure 6. Maybe Shackles' spell pool will be better for that; if not, I can't see taking Martial Adept.

Post-role as an Arcane Pretender, I pretty much thrashed everything. Being able to recharge spells for check bonuses took care of many problems handily, although it didn't prevent me from needing blessings on some higher-end checks.

It was especial fun taking Karzoug down with a 3d10 + 6d4 + 14 swipe of the runeforged Fanged Falchion. Tragically, my highest spell by the end was deck 5, or else I might've been able to get that up to +15.

Once I actually get the class deck, I may run a party of Flenta, Lem, Lini and Seelah through Runelords, just for kicks.

Flenta's status going Into the Eye:
FLENTA (Arcane Pretender)
Skills - Strength +4, Intelligence +1, Wisdom +1
Powers - Hand Size 7, Heavy Armor Proficiency, Combat Recharge, Non-Combat Recharge, Item Auto-Recharge, Item Auto-Acquire
Cards - Weapon +1, Armor +1, Item +2, Ally +1, Blessing +1

Fanged Falchion, Flaming Ranseur +3, Greatclub +3, Mokmurian's Club, Runechill Hatchet +2
Blizzard, Mass Cure, Poison Blast
Breastplate of Fire Resistance, Magic Full Plate
Emerald Codex, Masterwork Tools, Revelation Quill, Sihedron Medallion, Sihedron Ring
Father Zantus, Sage
Blessing of Abadar, Blessing of Gorum, Blessing of Irori, Blessing of Shelyn

Divine Attack spell just seemed like a convenient shorthand. Apologies for any confusion caused.

It actually wasn't confusing at all as slang, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Out of curiosity, has it ever actually been stated or confirmed somewhere that only one copy of any particular card is included in a Class Deck? The printable deck lists seem to show differing numbers of unique cards between the decks, so I would assume not, but I haven't kept up closely with this.

Hawkmoon269 wrote:
Actually, doesn't something in Spires of Xin-Shalast do just that?

Cannibal Haunts -- you banish either a card from your hand, or the top card of your deck; your choice.

NjSoapdish wrote:
I don't see it as a big problem in standard play to be honest. She cycles through random base level spells and then when you get her arcane +2 for attack spells you get to keep them and still get free spells to add to your deck.

Unless I'm interpretting the power wrong, Flenta only gets the Arcane skill for the combat check. The skill will be gone by time the recharge check comes around, so she'll still banish any Attack spells she casts.

I do agree that Seltyiel's power pretty much crushes Flenta's as far as combat checks, but remember that his is only for combat checks and requires Attack spells in particular. Pretender Flenta's power works with any spell and you can upgrade it to boost non-combat checks as well.

mlvanbie wrote:
Insufficient X in the class deck was stated to be intentional in another thread. We are still waiting to find out if you rebuild your deck according to your history of acquired cards. Under that theory, even though you banished your only 3 Spell (acquired in a previous scenario) you will construct your deck using a 3 Spell of your choice for the next scenario. This would make Flenta designed for OP only. Also, you wouldn't want to banish new spells of high levels that you acquire.

If reconstructing your deck according to your card history does turn out to be the case, that'll certainly be a nice perk for Flenta in organized play -- especially for folks who just want to cast all of their available spells. I think that saying that that'd mean Flenta is designed for organized play only might be a little extreme, though.

If you're going to run her through a normal campaign, the assortment of B & C Arcane spells in the particular adventure path will certainly be a factor; but simply taking the Pretender role, the combat and non-combat check recharge powers, and devoting your spells solely to those powers should always make for a good build. +5, +6, or even +7 to a check isn't something I'd sneeze at, at least.

If you were to go Arcane Pretender and want to focus on the combat recharge power -- and probably non-combat recharge after it -- then I think that your best bet would be to fill all or most of your spell slots with high deck number spells solely for the purposes of recharging, and never cast them. I think this approach would give her plenty of survivability in the long term.

If you want to keep casting all of your spells instead, you'd probably be better off early on with the weapon/spell-for-weapon swap power and/or the item recharge and acquisition powers instead. You could always take the combat recharge power late-game and switch approaches somewhat if you find that you need the help with combat.

As for the Arcane: Intelligence +2 power, I've been playing Flenta solo through Runelords with her character sheet since I can't pick up a class deck yet, and I took that power first. Personally, I wouldn't take it again unless I really didn't want hand size 7 as early as adventure 3.
