Mely settles herself in at the mouth of the cavern, her fingers crackling with small bits of electricity and her eyes narrowed as she watches for movement that gives away the digging undead. "I don't even know what it was! Just be ready! Creepy things like that always tend to come back. Unending undead hunger and all that!"

Moving to the entrance of the cave and readying to use an elemental ray if I see the thing.

Mely Ara will take the time the others are preparing to enter to do her own preparations. With a few small displays of Ranganori's power she'll suffuse herself with magic and hop into the air. A moment later her legs will turn back into a striking long fish tail which she'll use to swim through the air alongside the others.

A second chant to her god and a calming aura surrounds her, dissuading anyone from wanting to strike her. Then touch Scratch on the back to harden the lion's defenses even further. "May as well make sure your little cat is as ready as possible. I have a few more magics to help once the fight starts. Korfu, if you feel like being a little more... aggressive I can put a little divine fervor in us to speed us up when the time comes."

Casting Sky Swim and Sanctuary (DC 20) on myself, and Shield of Faith on Scratch for +3 deflection.

Mely steps into the room and raises her palm towards the ceiling. Defying laws of physics a, a lightning bolt crashes through from above and slams into the purple mummy.

Mely watches the battle begin with squinted eyes which are quickly widening now that they're all not standing outside in bright winter. Other members of the party throw about quickly manifested support magic while she hesitates, but soon enough she gathers herself to act.

She pulls up the hem of her robes and stomps down the stairs, partially to make sure she doesn't fall down them instead, to stop behind the more face-first members of the group. Once she can see the clustered... things, she focuses her faith into the holy symbol tattooed into her palm and chants a spell. As she finishes a burst of holy power ripples through the room and engulfs most of the creatures. "By the Duke!"

"Maybe someone took advantage of the other murders to steal the money he won? There are terrible little opportunists about." She muses as she pokes around at the trader's belongings, picking a nick nack here or there to hold it close to her face or turn it over. "Maybe the whole thing has to do with the good tickets, if the last person was set to win a lot, too? Then they attacked too soon..."

She'll finish up with the room before following Long Beau out to the streets to pester the neighbors. "Or anything about Nockzet? Maybe business rivals or other people he might have bad blood with?"

The merfolk curls her tail beneath her chair as she listens to the trio introduce themselves to one another. Her head tilts to one side, and she slightly squints her eyes to take them in. "Well, this might be a bit awkward."

She adjusts the folds of her robes and sets her hands in her lap to keep them in place, and the motion better reveals the holy symbol Ranginori hanging from her waist. "I think the Duke of Thunder gets along less with your lords than any other two put together."

"I should think I very much wouldn't want to drink something that burns my throat... Was he survived by any family?"

Mely will spend some time carefully examining the room, her eyes squinted slightly against the light reflecting off the snow and into the house. Some of this time is spent examining the corpse as respectfully as she can to see if he died the same way as the first did. After restoring the covering she'll place her hand on the little gnomes forehead and offer a small prayer to her god, then stand and walk outside to start talking to the neighbors.

She does her best to be cordial, but she has no idea what the customs of the area are, is still squinting heavily, and stumbling her way through the snow more often than not with her borrowed legs as the little ball of anger building in her gut causes her to rush about.

The others in the group do a wonderful job of examining the scene and talking to the locals, but that doesn't deter Mely from wanting to do her own part. She'll wander away from the group to hunt down any other neighbors that might have an opinion, or even better may have heard something like horrible gnome screams that might point to a very SUDDEN ending.

After wandering around in the snow for a while she'll return and help look over the scrawling and other bits of interest in the poor man's home. While squinting particularly hard at the writing she muses softly to herself. "It's rather inconvenient that this Humush Mum didn't tell us where to go to start with... Um... who is Humush Mum?"

Mely follows along, her steps slightly stumbling from the mixture of walking in boots and being on the rougher ground of a snowy day. Her eyes drift side-to-side as they go, just trying to get a feel for the people around them and the mood in the town. She didn't want to walk right into the middle of a street fight.

"I've always heard the Bleaching is slow, and that gnomes tend to look more depressed than anything as it gets to them. I wonder if there's a way to forcibly drain the color out of a gnome... maybe with fear? If so, someone could be doing that." She was musing out loud to herself.

"How long ago were the most recent deaths?"

As the others have... rather bluntly introduced themselves to Quil, Mely doesn't see a particular need to be immediately sociable. Especially not when there were other things about to look at. She wanders over to the now available step ladder and climbs up to get a closer look at all the streamers.

With a tilt of her head she gives them a long moment of consideration. "Reminds me of coral. Is it to stave off the bleaching?"

The -first- thing Mely does is grow a pair of legs, because she didn't want to risk her horse freezing itself in this weather and needed a way to reasonably get around. It's a small affair with a rush fog and clouds flowing from beneath her robes to cover her tail, and when it recedes she's left with a pair of pale legs in its place. She then takes a moment to put on some warm boots because barefoot is nice, but not in the snow.

That was a lesson she learned the hard way.

When she stands it takes her a few steps of wobbling before she can find her balance and she never seems quite certain on her feet. Which she thinks is reasonable since she normally doesn't have any.

Once that's all settled she'll use the piece of paper with the address and try to guide the party towards Quil Tabberdash's church so they can get more details. A path that puts Periel right in their way. "Oh! Well hello then! I didn't think we had anyone else for this mission. We don't really have any enemies... yet. But people are dying, so there's probably someone that needs a bit of wrath." She gives him a polite smile and tries to get him to help her search for the church.

"You mentioned the Bleaching is common here... or common enough." She gives Roudantaimi a slightly concerned look, then turns back to their apparently lip-reading venture captain. "Have these deaths we're here about been more frequent than normal?"

She takes the paper with the address, looking it over though she's not the least bit familiar with Iceferry or Kalsgard. Another glance for their gnome and then she nods. "That's a good question. And what does unstable mean... are we going to be attacked by random toughs in the streets?"

Mely -does- seem to mind having a giant cat tongue lick her, and gives the sudden drool on her fingers a poorly hidden look of disgust. "Ew... I didn't know they did that." She tries to casually wipe the now slightly slimy hand through the cat's mane to give it back its own drool.

She glances between Brenden and Korfu, giving them both a bright smile much at odds with their dark demeanor. "Hello both of you. I don't have any fancy titles, I'm afraid. But The Black Fist and The Korfu both sound very impressive. This should be an experience, whatever it is."

Mely isn't entirely normal and you're biggest question might be how she got here. Perhaps she convinced Mr. Beau to allow her to ride his lion to the lodge. She's wrapped several lengths of fabric around her body in shades of blue to white and grey that give off the impression of a stormy sky and drape down well past her waist. Still, there's no hiding the fact instead of legs she has a long, fish-like tail of cerulean colored scales curled beneath her.

Her skin is pale to the point you question if it could be her natural color, and her hair is a shade of blue that perfectly matches her scaling. This merfolk has an expression of curiosity on her face when at ease that helps to offset the unnaturally wide pupils of her green eyes. It seems as though she's new enough to the surface that every other thing she comes across is something she's seeing for the first time.

In particular, both Scratch and Mahki have distracted her from Torrsen's briefing, as she tries to lure either of them close enough to run her hands through their fur. When he asks about the bleaching she looks up from her efforts and tilts her head to the side in thought, glancing to Long Beau. "Is that where they stop being all sorts of lovely colors and turn very pale?"

Then after another moment. "Oh, I never introduced myself. My name is Mely, Mely Ara."

Mely does her best to cover herself with the layers of her robe, at the very least protecting her face from the worst of the explosions. "Does that mean they're dead, or is it like when a squid shoots out ink and they'll be back?"

She doesn't wait for an answer from the rest of the party, and holds out her hand to channel the power of Ranginori a second time. More of the wounds on everyone close as the Duke's power touches them.

Mely swims along the ceiling to position herself behind the smaller G'look. It seems like she's trying to get a clear view of everyone, but Sihir is nowhere in sight. "Hang on, guys, I can fix this!" No time to worry about it. The merfolk holds up her tattooed palm as she shouts. "Thundercat, Hooooo!" A pulse of holy energy rushes from her, healing the wounds of her companions as it touches them.

"Beat them silly!" Feeling pretty good about herself, she does a very small fist pump at the personal success.

Channeling positive to heal. Sihir is out of range, and I'll select out the green enemy (Which is the only one I see in range).

Mely drifts a few feet to the side, giving her a clear view of Maldrek as he fights one of the creatures. Once that's done she weaves another spell around her holy symbol and lets the magic settle over Maldrek and Rogar. "Take these things down a notch or two, please!"

5ft adjust to the east, and using my standard to cast blessing of fervor. Party is too spread out for me to hit anyone but Maldrek and Rogar, so sorry G'look. =( I just wanted to get those two doing some extra damage this round.

Mely stands at the end of her small bookshelf row, slightly miffed not only at the threats, but the fact she can't easily see the rest of her allies to support them. Her brow scrunches up and she spends several moments thinking before holding out her holy symbol and chanting off a prayer to Ranganori.

As the words complete her legs twist and bend through fog back into her fins, and everything about her begins to drift lazily through the air as if she were underwater. Well if the ghost is afraid and there doesn't seem to be anything ready to spring forth and hurt them... again... she'll make her way up the stairs towards the actual book shelves, and start skimming them with one pale finger to hunt down any useful titles. "Rogar! MOVE!" Mely shouts out with a surprising amount of command in her voice, then follows up the first shout by pointing a finger at the swarm of ants and yelling again. "The Duke of Thunder smites you, you... you dumb bugs!" "I do not, I'm afraid. It may be best to do as you say and leave it in the bag." Mely gives the book a wide berth after G'look's warning and moves onward to the next portion of the library. She holds up their kobold drawn map before her as she goes, tries to keep an idea of where they are. "This says there's something about a pile of dirt with a hand sticking out of it in this corner... unless it was moved like the smoke bucket..." The second part comes out after a small, concerned pause.

She'll start checking the shelves from the safety of behind Rogar's back for any sign of surprises, and then for any of the tomes from the list they found.

The caustic liquid and cloud surround Mely, causing her to yelp in surprise as she stumbles slightly from the wire. She starts humming to herself and digging through the books to grab what she can in case the cloud can't be removed.

She's about to speak when Maldrek pipes up and she closes her mouth without making a sound. After a brief pause to think, she tries again. "That reminds me of what I saw. And these notes here kind of suggest that there are horrible mirror monsters that can come out of reflective surfaces here. I highly suggest everyone keeps their guard up and weapons ready."

She grips the front of her robes a bit tighter and looks towards the south. "We should perhaps look for the books on the list Rogar found. And maybe things related to Planar Cosmology listed on that sign there. That sounds related to Hao Jin... she did a lot of planar things."
