Human Human Fighter 1

What's down there Git?

Human Human Fighter 1

Well I guess we do have goblins to deal with. Ferike and Dominique thank you for your offer. Take the girl back to Sandpoint and we'll go on ahead. We'll be back in town in a couple of days, and I'll be checking in to make sure she's been well taken care of.

Let's go kill some goblins now.

Human Human Fighter 1

If she has relatives we can leave her with, I'd rather take her to them than an orphanage, but if that is the only option then I suppose that is what must be done.

Human Human Fighter 1

I'd rather not force the young one to spend a night out in this goblin infested wilderness. I suggest that we bury them, and then force march back to town. We can put her and ourselves up in an Inn for the night.

Maya turns to the girl:

We're going to take you somewhere safe. Do you have any other family in the area? Perhaps and aunt or uncle?

She turns to trapper (sort of joking but not entirely)

You should give him a nick with your dagger and then have him drink one those potions. See if he's telling the truth, though I 'd hate to waste a healing potion on a goblin. Maybe one of you wizards can tell what they do.

Human Human Fighter 1

Gozer picking up the kid is probably scarier than the goblins. Maybe when he retires he can open up a daycare.

Human Human Fighter 1

When she gets back to the others, she sees the little girl.

Hi sweetie; don't worry, you're safe now. You'll be okay, we'll protect you. My name is Maya. What is your name?

She glares at Git.

In goblin

Don't think of doing anything that will scare this poor child. If you do, I'll cut off your ears

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya untethers her horse and then rides back to join the others along with trapper and Git. As she rides, she speaks to Git.

In goblin:

You're a smart goblin afterall Git. I thought you might try to get away. It's a good thing you didn't because then we would have had to track you down and kill you.

Human Human Fighter 1

She gets up on the horse behind trapper

Well I tied him up as best I could, so hopefully he's still there. I wouldn't be surprised if he gnawed through the rope with those sharp little teeth of his though.

Human Human Fighter 1

As Maya leaves to find Git she calls out behind her to her companions

I'll be back in a moment. See if you can find out where those screams came from.

Trapper should be her back to the farmhouse since he's on horseback and she's on foot.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya sees trapper approach, and as she wipes the goblin blood off her sword she says,

Trapper where's Git? I thought you were going to keep an eye on him.

She doesn't wait for a response and hurries back towards where she left him tied to the tree by the farmhouse.

I hope that little bastard hasn't escape. I still need him to lead us to their lair.

Human Human Fighter 1

Don't worry Tabby, I got your back! Die, you ugly mutt!! She shouts out as she lands a nasty slash on the vile dog.

Gozer, is everything okay over there?

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya, figuring that Gozer can handle himself, moves to aid Talberon. She rushes over to him and slashes at the goblin dog that is yipping at him.

She tries to set herself up to flank the dog with Talberon

Attack (with flanking bonus): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Human Human Fighter 1

I'll be there in a moment. It could be a trap, be careful. Someone stay back a little and cover us with a bow, and keep an eye on Git. Shoot him if he tries to escape.

Maya leaves her horse tethered to the nearby tree. She takes Git and ties him to the same tree. Then she readies her shield and sword. After that she sets out towards the fence on foot following Tamilius. She will probably arrive after Tamilius and anyone else who hurried over on horseback.

Human Human Fighter 1

Well if the fire is still burning strong, we can't have missed whoever did this by too much. Git here seems to be suggesting it's goblins. I don't think there's much we can do here. I suggest we try to pick up their trail and hunt these little bastards down. Is anyone here a good tracker? Unfortunately, it's not my area of expertise.

Human Human Fighter 1

When she sees Gozer's hands tighten and crack while looking at the doll and gripping his axe she mutters to herself.

Yeesh, the barbarian even hates dolls... He's got some real anger issues. I remember I had a doll like that when I was little girl, Miss Potts. Good thing Miss Potts isn't around, no telling what he'd do to her.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya dismounts, and asks Belethor to hold onto her horse, while she leads Git around by his leash. Her shield remains on her back, but she draws her sword. She proceeds to do a more thorough search of the farmhouse, particularly around the farmhouse, looking for signs of tracks that might indicate if goblins were responsible for the fire or if they might have dragged away any captives.

Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

If possible she would spend upwards of 15 minutes investigating, should that give her a bonus to her roll.

She also asks Git to assist her.

Goblin:

Spoiler:

Git, do you see any sign of goblins around? If you find me something useful, I might give you some water or a snack.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya looks at Git.

In goblin

Spoiler:

Git, I realize your kind aren't known of your (manners, Maya realizes that word doesn't exist in goblin), ah never mind. Keep your mouth shut, unless you are spoken to. The big fellow and the dwarf don't seem to like you, and I have a feeling that I can find another goblin to replace you easy enough.

She then starts riding down towards the farmstead, at pace quick enough that Git is very close to being dragged behind the horse.

Human Human Fighter 1

To Belethor:

If Git serves us well, and doesn't give me any reason to kill him, I may be inclined to let him go when all this is done. If he does anything stupid then I won't hesitate to put him to the sword.

Human Human Fighter 1

Let's go then Git. Lead the way, and if you try to lead us into an ambush or trap, I'll make sure you're the first to die.

Maya untethers her horse, slings her shield on her back, sheaths her sword, mounts up and starts to slowly ride, holding onto Git's leash as she goes.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Human Human Fighter 1

Whatever foul scheme is being hatched, I doubt goblins are behind it. Someone of something else is pulling their strings, and I have a feeling goblin rabble like Git aren't going to know much. Getting a hold of a fellow like Blank Eye may be more useful, and so much as I want to see him dead, it might be in our best interest to take him alive, interrogate him and then put him to the sword. Gozer, that means you need to keep your rage in check. I have no love of goblins, but they won't tell us anything if they're dead.

Now let's put Git on a leash. Is anyone here good at tying knots?

Maya removes the 50' of rope from her adventuring kit and cuts off a 10' length to bind Git with. She wraps the remainder of the rope back up and hangs it off her pack.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya turns to Belethor. Can you spare a tiny bit of healing for Git?

It looks like this Blank Eye fellow I'm looking for can be found not too far from here, assuming that Git isn't lying, which he might well be. I suggest that since we are out here anyhow we go investigate that option, though I'm curious about this map, and by the gods what happened to Roque?

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya is pretty oblivious to what Gozer is up to. She listens to Git and says.

In goblin

Spoiler:

Blank Eye? That's probably the one I want. If you take me to him, you might live to see the your way out of this.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya continues her chat with Git.

In goblin

Spoiler:

Good start Git. Now tell me, do you know a big goblin with milky white eye who carries a dwarven axe. I owe him a debt of blood. If you help me find him, I'll see that you live.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya continues to speak to the simpering little goblin in its native tongue

For those who speak goblin:

Spoiler:

I'll start off simple. What is the name of your tribe and which other goblin tribe do you consider your worst enemy?

Human Human Fighter 1

Responding to Gozer, Maya says calmly:

I wasn't planning on killing him just yet. He might be of use to us. If he isn't I'll give him to you, and you can eat him for all I care.

She then turns to the goblin with her sword still at his throat.

Speaking in goblin she says:

Spoiler for those who speak goblin

Spoiler:

I'd ask you your name, but I don't care. I'm going to call you Git. So Git, here's the deal. If you answer a couple of questions and I like the answers I might be able to convince my friend Belethor to give you some healing for that wound of yours. If I don't like what you got to say, I'm going to hand you over to the big fella there, and he will do horrible things to you. Understood?

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya points her sword at the throat of the wounded goblin.

Surrender you little git. We might let you live if you make yourself useful.

Human Human Fighter 1

This time Maya lands a decent blow on the goblin attacking her.

Didn't do great damage, but finally a decent attack roll

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya slashes at the goblin in front of her with her sword.

Trapper, Gozer. Get back to the bridge!

Attack on Goblin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Potential Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Human Human Fighter 1

The little bugger dodges a rather clumsy series of attacks.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya uses her readied attack to take a swing at the goblin that charged her.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Potential Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya curses under her breath as she sees Gozer rush out to charge the goblins.

Blazes Gozer, what happened to defending the bridge? Get back and hold a line, so they don't surround us.

For this round she remains standing in her position in front of the bridge, and keeps an attack ready for the first goblin that comes at her.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya moves to k8 to take up position to defend the bridge with her shield and sword ready to start killing goblins. She keeps her eyes ready for archers, but readies an attack for the first goblin that comes at her.

Are you ready boys? There might be a lot of them, but I don't expect they'll have much discipline or morale. If we can hit them hard early and take down a bunch the rest will probably cut and run.

Human Human Fighter 1

By this time Maya has tethered her horse in the nearby copse of trees. She figured there would be more goblins about. She leaves her horse, readies her shield and sword and makes her way hastily to the bridge to help her companions defend it.

I figured there would be more than three. A bottle neck is a good plan. These aren't trained warhorses. I suggest you tether your mounts. Though I do hear that goblins are often scared of horses.

Human Human Fighter 1

Knowing that her horse is not trained for war and might spoke easily, Maya rides forward away from the goblins towards a nearby copse of trees, hoping to find cover for her and her steed, as well as a safe place to dismount.

Ambush! Get your steeds to safety. Then we'll deal with these little gist.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya remains mounted. Her shield is on her back, but she draws her sword, and keeps an eye out for trouble.

Human Human Fighter 1

I'm cool with you taking over. I'd rather stay a player for this campaign anyhow.

Doing party initiative may still cause issues with the improved initiative feat, depending on how you do it, but if it is an issue, I'm sure the players who chose the feat could just switch it for something else.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya does her best to tune out the dwarves drinking song as they ride.

Human Human Fighter 1

I like putting those sorts of rolls as a spoiler, then I don't ruining it for myself by seeing how well (or not well more likely) I did on a roll like perception, where it's more important that the DM see the result than me.

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya rides up at the front of the group.

Perception:

Spoiler:

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

Human Human Fighter 1

Actually, what I had meant to say was, "Does anyone else speak goblin?" And yes I agree Taby, it is so full of strange dialects that I am not entirely confident in my abilities to speak their tongue, but I will do my best.

Human Human Fighter 1

Remember there is a particular tribe or band I'm looking to pay back for the death of my husband. I don't know their name or where exactly they make their lair, but I do know that one of their leaders, possibly their chief, was a particularly big goblin wielding a dwarven axe, and one of his eyes was milky white. That's about all I have to go on, so let's try to catch a few alive so that I can do a little questioning.

By the way, Does anyone here speak goblin?

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya shows up, shield and backpack on her back, sword at her side and ready for action.

Let's get out there and kill us some goblins.

Human Human Fighter 1

Well it sounds like we should all get some rest and meet up in the morning, so that we can get work.

I'm ready for a scene switch to sometime next day whenever everyone else is. Maya will go back home that night, and the next morning show up at the appointed hour with all her adventuring gear.

Human Human Fighter 1

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Human Human Fighter 1

Not sure if we need initiative at this point or not.

After seeing Gozer punch Tam, Maya attempts to hurl herself between Tam and raging barbarian. She leaves her sword in its sheath.

You wouldn't hit a woman would you?

Human Human Fighter 1

Maya sees Gozer's anger starting to boil over.

Gozer, you need to calm yourself!! This isn't your homeland. We do things different here. Save your anger for the goblins we need to get out and deal with.

Diplomacy if applicable: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Great this guy is a total savage. I can see this going real well. I suppose every mercenary company has to start somewhere.

Human Human Fighter 1

May, who standing by Ameiko and the Sheriff watches the interaction with amusement. Her interest in strange blue potions being minimal. She has no particular trust of magic, but she doesn't have much of a trust of savage barbarians either.

It looks like this lot is going to keep me on my toes.

Human Human Fighter 1

Well sheriff, I think you know my answer before I give it. I still owe some a particular band of goblins for the death of my late husband. In fact, I'd been trying to hire these lads to help me with such a task when the incident with the ogre happened. So I'm in.

The main problem is that I don't think there is a one of us here that really knows the countryside well. It would be useful to have a guide of some sort.

Human Human Fighter 1

What would you have us do Sheriff?

Human Human Fighter 1

Sorry sheriff I was a little too engrosed with the new company I was meeting. Do you have any idea where the ship was headed or why this evening happened?
