@Narrater: Absolutely! Do what you've got to do in order keep things smooth. Additionally, though I won't be continuing to play, a final thanks for stepping in to revive the game. It is something that doesn't happen often, and is a commendable effort on your part.

@Everybody Else: Thanks for the short time we had playing together! As I said before, your characters are all wonderful and I wish them the best in their adventures. I'm definitely going to be checking the gameplay thread periodically to see how everyone is doing and enjoy some more of your excellent role-playing.

With any luck, I can find another game (PBP or IRL) that fits into my schedule. A life with too little Pathfinder is a sad one, indeed!

Hello all.

As much as I enjoy Carrion Crown, and as enamored as I am with my character (even if I am still sketching out a few details), I thinking it may be best for me to bow out. A great deal of the posts have been coming at times (in my location) that are difficult for me to be active during (either particularly early, when I am on my way to or already at work, or particularly late when I need to be getting my sleep).

I realize that the nature of PBP means I don't have to be on right at the moment everyone else is, but it is difficult for me to orient myself within the narrative when 5 to 7 posts of development or interaction have progressed by the time I have a chance to post.

And this is not a gripe at all of you! You are all lovely, as are your characters (seeing a Changeling Bloodrager was an "I wish I'd thought of that" moment for me).

My concern is largely that *my* schedule make *me* a poor fit for the campaign. (This is largely a symptom of the greater concern that my work responsibilities are requiring more of my time than I initially realized: I recently had to drop out of one of my two in-person Pathfinder groups as well!)

(I am putting a lot of asides in brackets...)

Scones! Maryska's thought was accompanied by only the slightest widening of her eyes.

Finally, something to pierce the awful pall draped over this day.

Maryska steps briskly to where the refreshments have been laid out and, with a single brisk motion plops a large amount of jam upon a scone and takes a large bite.

It is, without a doubt, the most gusto the woman has displayed in the presence of these strangers since meeting them, made all the more jarringly unexpected by the fact she seems completely unaware of this fact.

The knock on the door barely registers to her, and she is still savoring the snack with her back to the door when the solicitor is shown in.

As it was left in limbo due to the DM change-over, I am reiterating my inquiry on whether any of Lorrimor's books are particularly noteworthy.

I'm at work today, but I'll have some time starting ~6pm Pacific Time to jump back in!

Happy Holidays all!

And a special thanks, again, to Narrator for taking the campaign over.

(Also, yes, January 3rd as a restart date is fine for me as well!)

@Narrator: I've got Maryska's background up on this profile. It is not 100% fleshed out, but the bones and most of the muscles are there. It's about 75-80% along.

Hey all!

Apologize for being a ghost, but I was trying to keep a rainstorm from murdering a bunch of comics in my store.

I've never used Hero Points in Pathfinder, but do not object to them and am familiar with the rules. (Also, I've played other games that use similar mechanics, so I should take to them just fine.)

Never done Cards of Fate, and I'm not familiar, but I can certainly read up on them. I can't imagine I'd have any issue with them being used, so count me in as for it.

Regarding the custom weapon I have for Maryska (a telescoping metal baton), the previous GM just had me treat it as a Sword Cane with a bludgeoning damage descriptor instead of slashing. This mostly works, except for the issue of proficiency, and that's how I factored it in to Maryska's stat block and character creation purchases.

Regarding the proficiency issue, I see two possibilities: We can go with the "Sword Cane, but..." version and just handwave my proficiency with it. Or, in order to avoid giving me free goodies, go with my original proposal: It's effectively a Light Mace and the "telescoping metal baton" bit is just dressing.

My reasoning is this: No dedicated slayer of undead would be caught dead (har har) without a bludgeoning weapon of some sort to deal with skeletal undead. However, a light mace just does *not* fit the very specific aesthetic I have in mind for Maryska. A mace, even a light one, is just too "obvious" a weapon for how she does things.

Sorry to hear that, Spooky. I'm sending positive vibes your way in the hopes of a speedy recovery. Thanks for bringing together such a good group of folks for this campaign!

I am also rather fond of our crew, and would also be open to hunting down a new GM. I realize that's usually a long shot, but it couldn't hurt to try.

"Maryska", she answered over her shoulder in a clipped tone to the Bard's inquiry on names.

Her back was to the group as her eyes methodically scanning the the books arrayed on shelves along the walls.

This house was fascinating to her. Petros Lorrimor was the only person in her life who knew more about her than she did about him, and she felt an unshakable need to correct this now that she was in the presance of his home and personal effects.

Does Maryska notice any books or documents that jump out at her as particularly notable or strange?

With a slight side-eye to Kith for his grandiose performance, Maryska steps forward and quietly recites a short Pharasmin prayer.

Following this, she performs a small ritual of tracing a series of holy sigils in the dirt near the grave: intended to see the departed safely to The Boneyard. Pointless, as Lorrimor had been dead for several days, but it felt right.

@Ileana: She isn't. Her childhood was spent on the road, and her job takes her all over the greater Lake Encarthan area. She just happened to be in Caliphas when she received word of Lorrimor's death and the will.

I didn't have the chance to flesh that out before we got going, so there it is!

(Ooof, should probably copy/paste my background from the recruitment thread into my profile!)

And there! Finally. I changed things around to explain my brief early absence and to not bog us down in what was happening a handful of posts ago.

Let's do this!

Inquisitor (Infiltrator) of Pharasma 1, HP 9/9, AC 16 (13 touch, 13 flat footed), F+3 R+3 W+4(+6 vs Emotion/Fear), Init +3 Perception +6, Sense Motive +6

It was a long trip from Caliphas and Maryska arrived in Ravengro a few short minutes after the others that had been named in Lorrimor's will. She still was not certain she wanted to be here.

Tragedy had long ago numbed her to effects of loss, and her faith had helped her learn to process and accept it when it did occur. However, she was here in this backwater village because the one living person who had some idea of who she really was, was now no more. This left an unfamiliar weight in her stomach, which made her fear the prospect of coming her and what parts of her that may force her to confront. Truly, it was her faith in the Lady of Graves alone that pushed her here.

She regretted her hesitance at serving as a pallbearer, a function she had performed so many times in her life in the church that it had nearly lost meaning. But she was already off her bearings, and being asked to help a bunch of strangers carry a man, who's meaning to her was still nebulous, to his grave made matters all the worse.

Walking some feet behind the procession, she saw it halt at the villager's assistance the professor would not be interred at the local graveyard.

She was dimly aware of the pallbearers negotiating in response as she moved swiftly and stoically up the the front of the procession.

"What in The Grey Lady's name is the meaning of this?"

Hey everyone, sorry having some internet issues. Typing this out on my phone. Working on retying my intro post up but doing it on mobile with all the formatting is taking forever. Just letting you know I'm not dead!

Checking in! I'm at work, but should be able to bang out my intro post during some downtime.

Oh, and thanks for taking me on! Really looking forward to adventuring with this crew.

Maryska is crossing her fingers and wishing all of the other entrants good luck!

Oh, I did have one question about a "custom" item.

Maryska would certainly carry a bludgeoning weapon for the sake of dealing with skeletal undead and the like. A light mace doesn't fit her aesthetic at *all* for me though.

I was wondering how you'd feel about her having a telescoping metal baton? It would function exactly the same as a light mace for all intents and purposes (1d6 bludgeoning, threat on a 20, x2 on a crit, etc.), though if you felt inclined to let me have fun with it we could say it gives like, a +2 on Sleight of Hand checks to conceal. My real concern, however, is the "look".

Orannis here!

This profile has all of Maryska's crunch on it. Fleshing out her backstory is going to take more work, but what I've put up there is the meat of it and now you can know how she'll contribute to the party mechanically when you're picking your submissions.

I'm pretty fond of her, so I hope she has your eye!
