Not for spoilers, but ultimately (OOC or meta)... are we the good guys or bad guys? I can easily come up with reasons to work with Sharran, but not to the end of oppressing, enslaving, killing or destroying populations. Is it a lesser of two evils angle? Pure chaos or law (or alien) vs maintaining balance? That's quite doable.
My concern is more the mind/head games or psychology around being forced to kill others to survive. It gets dark pretty fast. Is it a simulation of some sort and the folks being killed aren't real? Is it like infinite mirrors... Where the player controls the character and the character controls an avatar?
Create Water
Paladin is the only Full BAB that can cast it, and only starting at Level 4 (spell slot, not at will). Create Food and Water
Considering there are other scarcity aspects to the game, it's not really a game changer... It just creates another dynamic.
@GM DarkLightHitomi - why not just play it vanilla and select which books you're willing to use, for simplicity instead of hand-picking this or that mechanic. I suppose options presented within said books could be a yay/nay... Automatic Bonus Progression? Background Skills? Although not core, Elephant in the Room? Will we need to craft arrows & bolts or can we craft weapons? Or even craft magic items? Does surrender count as defeat (gain their XP)? I'd rather not kill/slaughter anyone/anything unless we have to. Also, when we defeat an enemy, their XP is split evenly among the team (my suggestion). Future Regulators could work on: * a Wizard (Evocation?)
Keep it limited to Core and we can adjust when we know more. My preference would be alignments of LG (not lawful stupid), NG, CG (not anarchist), LN or CN (not anarchist) for Regulators.
I'd suggest considering a team loyalty mandate. Max team size being 6, no "need" to turn on teammates, you can all escape. You cannot turn on your team and if you do, your XP gets distributed across the team. The game will be hard enough without a distrust of teammates. If that works, I'm interested and would love to start a team... as a working name, The Regulators. If anyone would like to join, please express interest with a character concept and role, niche(s), specialt(y/ies), etc... melee, range, battlefield control, arcane, divine, stealth, recon, healing, AoE, etc... Would love to get 6 members (5 + myself), I can create my character last to fill any voids in team balance.
Also, to be clear... I like the game and would love to join, should an opening presents itself in the future. It's just that the name picking and "questions" got me thinking and got pretty deep. Monk led to Monkey (Business) and Vanara... Herman Hesse got in on the action... Mind blown! I've really enjoyed the recruitment, thank you!

Thanks for the response. I question was more, were these characters supposed to have been through the initial portion of the AP? Or had they heard about the ugliness, and therefore could use that in their background and reasons for continuing the efforts. Home town was overrun with Kyuss-loveliness, monastery/keep was secured and holding out against the walking dead, waiting for them to succeed, etc... That sort of thing. Maybe it can helps someone else.

The Temple upon the Mount, literally justted from the mountainside midway up the cliff-face. For centuries, they have watched and waited... countless prophecies both true and false. The Kyuss threat had become real, growing too quickly and disrupting the balance. In this enemy's wake, chaos and death that was in no living thing's best interest. For your review of mechanics & crunch. He's all about movement. I think it's all CRB.
Don't like touching ikky stuff :) Couldn't you then enchant them? Mithral gauntlets, or even some leather gloves. My point is, by CRB... Transitive property, inference or Aristotelian logic seems to indicate that a Monk (using unarmed strike) can wear something on his hands like anyone else using unarmed strike. Agreed? Extending that logic, they are not required to be barefoot. They can wear boots and slippers, footwear. And still make unarmed strikes with feet. So, if feet don't need to be uncovered... hands shouldn't need to be either.
Not a popular choice for Age of Worms, but I'm thinking pure Monk of Lendor. Preserving the balance. The Prophecies have always been true... Now they have become real. It's time to come down from the Mountain. ------- I do have a question about gauntlets. If a non-Monk can use a gauntlet to make an unarmed strike... why can't a Monk? CRB states: "Gauntlet: This metal glove lets you deal lethal damage rather than nonlethal damage with unarmed strikes. A strike with a gauntlet is otherwise considered an unarmed attack..." Certainly, Monks don't need to use gauntlets... but they should be able to.

I think it's all just a misunderstanding. Everyone had their points and perspectives. I'm happy to help you, Wilhim. I've not been a DM (old school) but am very interested in class combinations/synergies and tactical encounters. Peace! ps: when you say Amazonian, do you mean... jungle, strapping female warrior or... e-commerce advocate :)
I got waylaid this weekend and no character build time. Will withdraw from consideration. But, VMC Summoner (tweaked for Synthesist) isn't over powered at all. You get no spells, no summoning monsters... Just your Eidelon for 3 times a day, for as many rounds as your character level. Evolution points are nerfed, it's Summoner level -4 (with Half-Dragon, that's Max 14) and then half the evolutions. I think it's 9 points. Hardly a worry. I saw what you offered with VMC Sorcerer (get them closer to dragon)... and thought of another way. Could be neutral with good tendencies (except where it comes to his father)... But slowly accepting his own destiny and becoming less angry.
What if... just to consider: Asterion Cleric 12 or 10 (w/Half-Dragon)
DM minor tweaks the VMC (it's homebrew), all evolutions go towards Black Dragon-esque features: flight/wings, claws, tail, natural armor, etc... channeling his inner dragon. Ultimately, he can take "evolved" dragon form 3x/day, with duration 1 round/level.

And as sickeningly sweet as the adage was, to know a thing or someone was to love them. What better way to expand knowledge than to travel? New mysteries, puzzles, conundrums... Approaching situations with an open mind leads to the best results. If we could just control how emotions, his hubris. Confident in his abilities, he feels he is inevitable, an irresistible force. Might I suggest a theme song? Last in Line, by Dio:
We're a ship without a storm Cold without the warm Light inside the darkness lit at peace We're a laugh without a tear
We're off to the witch
We're all thrown upon the cross
We'll know for the first time
Two eyes from the east
We search for the truth
We'll know for the first time
Yeah We're off to the witch
We're all thrown upon the cross
We'll know for the first time
See how we shine We're the last in line
Songwriters: Jimmy Bain / Ronnie James Dio / Vivian Patrick Campbell
We can do a Seven Samurai thing... Actually, if anyone wants to have loosely linked backgrounds... I'm open to it. @Helix Missionary
Guess the question is, is that rate enough that it would be a dead giveaway if we operated wearing a mask (or several different ones)? Or are there enough artisans and demand that it wouldn't be a problem, especially in the big city. He would of course be using less ornate masks, perhaps made of paper or parchment and easily disposed of.
Spare the rod, Robbet. Let me see if they'd rather join us for a spot of tea. I love tea parties. His voice changing slightly, deeper then. Either way, the gate shall be taken. The old man starts a whispered song, as he approaches the night watchman. I see a little silhouetto of a man,
... dammit, I always get stuck right there. Oh well. This is weird, in starting to imagine him is some kind of harlequin mask, or a la V for Vendetta. OMG, just looked it up... Wikipedia: Scaramouche (from Italian scaramuccia, literally "little skirmisher"), also known as scaramouch, is a stock clown character of the 16th century commedia dell'arte (comic theatrical arts of Italian literature). The role combined characteristics of the Zanni (servant) and the Capitano (masked henchman), with some assortment of villainous traits. Usually attired in black Spanish dress and burlesquing a Don, he was often beaten by Harlequin for his boasting and cowardice.
There is the enjoyment of creating exactly what you want... or finding a system that allows you to. Spheres of Power/Spheres of Might is a system I've discovered recently. It seems to suit my style of character creation. On the other hand, I always like to be the pick up or replacement character, filling in the party gaps (with my own twist, the un-cola)... and RPing into role that I didn't have in mind, but is needed. It's a welcome mental challenge. This system is close to that, I think. But we're all doing it, in a sense. Circumstance, serendipity, etc...
Unsure of they're quite opposites, but "Markus" has... ORDER/Ferocity: The will you possess is capable of moving mountains and comes with such a rush of passion and vigor that others are often forced into stunned awe. You are unlikely to break under torture or mental duress, possessing a well of emotional strength that at times seems unending. CHAOS/Hypocrisy: Others see you for what you are; a charlatan and a liar, unwilling or unable to be held to your words. Your judgments and insights are seen as false, unlikely to be followed or trusted. I think the juxtaposition of Order and Chaos is intended to create that real world personal tension, as order and chaos themselves are opposing forces. The convergence and path to reconciliation is fertile soil for RP. I personally like that he is seen as a charlatan, which he literally is (entertainer) but that itself was the lie - to make jokes and be one, bring levity and be light hearted - because he's incapable of ought else, that folks choose to believe... Beneath it all, the heart of stalwart nobility.
