Male Human

As the crowds drain away towards the main square, Marcan leaves the stall to his wife for a few minutes during the lull and heads over to the Kaijutsu's stall, chatting briefly before leaving with two platefuls of food.

When the crowds start to return, he starts juggling a few balls and calling out his wares, keeping one eye out for those with coin to spend, and one for anyone looking to make trouble.

Male Human

Beneath a banner reading 'Velder's Leatherworks', a human, dark hair streaked with grey, stands hawking his wares. The front shelf of the stall is lined with brightly colored balls and butterfly wings on harnesses; the back wall has more practical clothing.

Marcan spots a local kid looking to palm one of the balls from the shelf; he covers the target with his hand at the last moment, and after making eye contact, says with a smile "Next time, just ask."

No updates here, I'm all set.

Updated. Net impact on Marcan seems to be gaining the "ignore one square of difficult terrain" feature from the Nimble ancestry feat.

Thanks, and fixed the will save.

Ahh, okay. I expect to be a damage dealer in combat, plus skill monkey outside of it.

I believe I've addressed all your comments, is there anything else you need from me? Thanks!

Alright, corrected my load, remaining gold, and feat selection. See anything else that needs fixing?

This is Sbodd, decided I'd dust off an old Rogue character instead. (I'll update the profile fully if accepted.)

Role-wise, I'd definitely be a damage dealer, and also a skillmonkey.

Background:

Marcan used to be a small time guild thief in (Korvosa? Some major city.). When a new boss took over with a somewhat more...'aggressive' style, Marcan's crew said "in for a penny, in for a pound" and went along with it. Marcan himself discovered he didn't have a taste for the new level of violence, and fled the city.

After a fair while spent wandering, he eventually settled down in Sandpoint. He's all respectable now, an elder in the town, married, follower of Desna. But he's kept a few of his old skills sharp, just in case something were to happen...

Rogue:
Class Features:
Finesse Striker
When you attack with an agile or finesse one-handed melee weapon, you can
add your Dexterity modifier to damage instead of your Strength modifier.
Sneak Attack
You deal additional damage to flat-footed creatures (see page 322). If you Strike
a flat-footed creature with an agile or finesse melee weapon, an agile or finesse
unarmed attack, or a ranged attack, you deal 1d6 extra precision damage. For a
ranged attack with a thrown weapon, that weapon must also be agile or finesse.
As your rogue levels increase, so does the number of damage dice of your
sneak attack. Increase the number of dice by one at 5th, 11th, and 17th levels.
Surprise Attack
On the first round of combat, creatures that haven’t acted are flat-footed to you.

L1 Rogue Feat: Trap Finder
You have an intuitive sense that alerts you to the dangers and presence of
traps. You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Perception checks to find traps, to AC against
attacks made by traps, and to saves against traps. Even if you aren’t searching, you still
get a check to find traps if you are trained or better in Stealth. You can disable traps as
though you had a proficiency rank of master in Thievery; if your proficiency modifier in
Thievery is actually master, this increases to legendary instead.

L1 Skill Feat: Fleet (+5' move speed)

Male Human

"I know, love." A long hug, followed by a deep breath. "Things are calm enough for now, at least. But... I'm worried. The goblins don't usually attack like that, and the guards aren't in good shape. I think... Tomorrow, I'm going to offer my help."

Male Human

Marcan looks around at the faces that have been with him through the long afternoon. What an odd bunch... Still, we're lucky each of them were here. " Thank you, again, for everything you've done today. I'm afraid I need to call it a night soon, or I really will turn to dust and blow away. I think tomorrow, I'll check out the tunnel that tentacle thing left behind; I've never seen anything like that, and it doesn't seem like goblin magic. I'd be grateful if any of you would join me."

Male Human

Marcan chuckles at Bolgrond. " It's good to see you again, furry one. We're all lucky you were here." Turning to the halfling, he offers a slight bow. " And you as well. As the lady said, my name is Marcan. May I ask yours?"

Male Human

" Certainly. We passed the guard house on our way here, I think." Marcan quickly binds the goblin before leading the group back through town towards the guard house.

Male Human

"Mae. A pleasure to make your acquaintance. The last time I saw those two, they were staring at the hole in the ground left by that tentacle thing. Do you know either of them?" Marcan replies.

Male Human

Marcan glances around. When no more goblins charge, he looks at his companions. Assuming there's no screams or other evidence of the attack continuing elsewhere: "Nicely done. Shall we drag this one to the town guard, see if they have an intact cell?" He turns and looks the stranger over before offering her a bow. "My name is Marcan. I'd say welcome to Sandpoint, but we're clearly not at our best right now. Thank you for your help, and especially for protecting my wife."

Male Human

Marcan snarls back at the goblin in his grasp, and switches tactics, trying to bludgeon it with the hilt of his rapier.

H&S: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4) + 2 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3

Guessing from the narration that the last post's Defy was Dex, so no marking XP?
Also, not sure if the bludgeoning attempt still qualifies as finesse for H&S, but with that roll it's still a 10+. Not going to press my luck, trying to just knock this one out.

Male Human

Marcan pulls on the goblin's leg, trying to drag it closer and put his blade to its throat.

I'm guessing that's a Defy to get the goblin? If so...

Defy: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6

If that's Dex, then that's a 7-9 result. Str would make that a miss.

Male Human

Whoops , I thought my name was in the list there. Strike my post. Sorry!

Male Human

The tunnel runs a hundred yards or so, ending at a rocky formation on the beach.
Did the goblins we slew have anything interesting or valuable?

Marcan immediately leaps after the goblin, trying to grab it and prevent it from getting away.

Defy Danger W/Dex?: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 2 = 9
Ignore or Adjust the roll as you feel is appropriate; that's a 7-9 on anything but Int.

Male Human

To Mae, Marcan says " Thank you for your assistance. I'll be right behind you". Turning, he leads Serina to their house, just down the block. " Stay here, and lock the door. I'll return as soon as I'm able. If something goes wrong, remember the tunnel in the basement." Bidding her farewell, Marcan then picks his daggers up, quickly checks the goblin bodies for anything valuable, and hurries to catch up with Mae, James, and Ameiko.

Male Human

Seeing Bolgrond press his attack, Marcan draws and flings his remaining dagger, trying to strike the tentacle near the sword's blow.

Volley: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 6) + 2 = 11
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Male Human

Marcan checks on Serina - "Are you alright, love?" After confirming that she's at least physically unhurt, he turns and shouts "Bolgrond, back away! I'm hoping this thing can't move!" before pausing and listening, assessing the status of the rest of Sandpoint. Are there other sounds of conflict? Do the fires seem to be under control?

Male Human

Gasping, Marcan tries to shout "Fall back!", but can only barely get the words out. He climbs to his feet and grabs Serina, backing away from the tentacle as best he can while trying to recall if he's seen anything like this back in Korvosa...

Spout Lore: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 4) - 1 = 6

I'm hoping this thing can't move from it's spot. If I need to defy to get away before it attacks again...
Defy Danger +Dex: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 2 = 10

Male Human

"You two, go for the base!" Marcan yells, as he devotes all his effort to warding off the tentacle's oncoming assault.

That's definitely a Defend right here.

Defend: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

Uh-oh.

Male Human

Quick bump - are we waiting on anything in particular?

Male Human

"Get back!" Marcan yells, launching himself between the tentacle and Serina without regard to the goblin in front of him, trying to fend off the thing with his rapier.

Could see this being either Defend or H&S; I'll roll both, use whichever you feel is appropriate. I'm assuming I'll just be eating an attack from the goblin.

Spoiler:

hack and slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 5) + 2 = 12
Defend: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
With Defend, I'll immediately redirect the attack to myself. It it's h&s, damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Male Human

One problem at a time, Marcan thinks. He utters a quick "Thanks" to Mae as he directs his attention to skewering the goblin in front of him...

Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6) + 2 = 10
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Male Human

What in Abaddon was that? Marcan thinks as he struggles to regain his footing. "I'm fine" he says back over his shoulder to Serina and the others. He glances quickly from the goblins to the unknown woman, evaluating. Well, I know the goblins aren't here to be friendly... flashes through his mind, as he draws and flings a dagger with his off hand.

Volley: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 = 8

I'll take "placed in danger."
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Male Human

Old habits kick in, and Marcan starts to gesture in the Korvosan guild's hand codes before catching himself, and just waving for the two men to follow him and charging the nearest goblin.

Not sure how focused they are on Ameiko; Backstab if I can get the drop on them, h&s otherwise.

How do you want to handle the townies? Narratively, or as hirelings, or something else?

Mae, what's your emotional state look like as Marcan approaches?

backstab or hack and slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6

Male Human

Also enjoying it. Looking forward to discovering how the heck we become a semi coherent group :-)

Male Human

"Everyone grab an extra weapon, in case you find more people who can fight. James, why don't the three of you head north; the rest of us will head south. We can worry about the fires once we've dealt with the things setting them. ", Marcan says. To Serina, he adds quietly, "If we get clear of the goblins, you can head for the house, ", before leading his group towards the screams from the south.

Is it possible to try and avoid notice by blending in with the crowd, or does leading three others make that impossible? If that'd be a Defy, here's a roll- pick a different stat or ignore as you feel is appropriate.

Defy Danger Dex: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 5) + 2 = 8

Male Human

Bump?

You have to do what your character would do. :)

With a group consisting of a Bugbear, a thief, a cultist, and a trickster mage... I'd actually be surprised if we didn't have a bit of friendly fire now and then.

I actually chose a Good aligned character because I thought it would lead to some funny situations between us all. So no hard feelings OOC.

Sure, gotta play the character, but I also have to make the character someone who works in the party :-) And, while I also expect some..."interesting"...interactions given who the PCs are, I figured a little OOC expectation-setting isn't a bad plan.

Yorick - are you OK with defining convenient realities like I just did (e.g. I happen to be pretty close to the weapons stall), or should I have asked about that first? (Again, this is my first DW game - so I'm still feeling out how things work.)

Male Human

"I'd like to, but if these fires get out of hand, nothing in town will be safe for long," Marcan replies to his wife. Looks like Bolgrond's got this group under control for the moment...though I'm not sure drunk goblins will be a big improvement over aggressive ones. Marcan looks around, and spots James' stall a few doors down. "Come on!" he says, and makes his way over to the stall, trying to grab a couple of able-bodied citizens en route. "Follow me - you'll need weapons to help fight them off!" Once he gets there, he opens the stall, and tells Serina to stay here and help distribute weapons to the townsfolk.

A couple of possible moves in here - let me know which you think were appropriate:
Parley with the citizens to stand and fight; leverage is not looking like I'm totally panicked. Parley: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5) + 1 = 10
If the stall's locked, trying to open it without it being obvious: Tricks of the Trade: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
For the lockpicking - my preferences in order would be Danger, Cost, Suspicion - so if the "two options" you offer are Cost and Suspicion, I'll take Cost; otherwise, I'll take "Danger".

Also, assuming the above work and James' stall has them, I'd grab a couple of replacement throwing daggers for myself.

Male Human

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say ooc that, despite my IC suspicions, I'm explicitly not looking to pick a fight with Bolgrond!

Male Human
DM Yorick wrote:

That all sounds great!

@Marcan - what's your wife's name?

Serina.

Made an IC post - I'm not 100% clear where everyone was, but I figured there's probably somewhere that I could spot both Jin atop a wagon and Bolgrond. If anything's problematic, let me know.

Was that a reasonable amount to do in one post? I realized when I was done that it was basically 3 actions - get out of the crowd, volley, move toward Bolgrond. Let me know if that's too much.

Male Human

At the first scream, Marcan's daggers are in hand before he even thinks about it. "Sounds like goblins. Take this, stay with me," he says, pressing a dagger into Serina's hand. He leads her to the side of the nearest building ( don't want to be caught in the middle of this crowd if they panic ). Looking around, he spots a goblin and a strange halfling atop a wagon, and sends his second dagger flying at the goblin.

Volley: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Without waiting to see the result, he turns and starts heading toward Bolgrond as best as possible, sticking to the edges of buildings. If he's really changed, that'll be the best place to be; if not, someone over there will need some help soon!

Male Human

Okay, finally found the "Edit Profile" button (I kept looking under "My Account", since that's where you create the alias, but I don't think you can get to the profile from there. Sheet is in my profile, let me know if you see anything that needs fixing.

If it's OK, I'd like to spend some of my starting gold to pick up some bandages and some rations.

How do you want to handle introductions?

Male Human

Hello, and a pleasure to join you all! I'll try to get character details posted this evening (that's evening Mountain time). How do I set about getting a "current stats" line like you all have? Yorick, is there anywhere in particular you'd like to have a sheet hosted?
