Megan, and Those in the Game,

I’ve enjoyed playing with you for the short time we’ve been together. Unfortunately, the situation with my grandfather hasn’t been easy to deal with, and between that and some other factors in my life, I’m in a position where I need to cut back on my gaming. I’m still in some games, but this is one of the ones I’ve chosen to withdraw from.

My reasons have to do with my character, rather than with any of you. She was supposed to be brash, a bit disrespectful, and used to being obeyed. However, I never really found her voice, and that’s been frustrating for me. Additionally, I’ve learned a lot about character mechanics in the last several months, and her build frustrates me at times.

I’ve really enjoyed playing with you, as I said, and hope to see you in games at some other time. Unfortunately, this isn’t the right one for me. Thanks for the opportunity to game with you all. Please move me to inactive.

I'm sorry,

Lucia

Retired

Lucia eyes the door, tapping her foot impatiently against the stone floor. "Yes, some more help would be nice. There's no telling how big this place is, or how much time we'll spend searching it, and your skills could be useful. And speaking of time...we should move on. We've got people of our own to find."

Retired

Lucia pokes her way into the room, cautiously approaching the old man. "Easy there, grandfather. We aren't prisoners. At least, not yet. How long have you been down here? Do you know anything of this maze we've found ourselves in? And, perhaps most importantly for the city above, do you know of any other prisoners?" She stands near the door, glancing occasionally out into the adjoining room and looking for potential trouble. "Lucia Selito, daughter of a moth and a pointy-ear. I was sent here by Pharasma to assist these two."

Retired

Actually, when I designed her, I took the liberty of reading the entirety of the discussion thread, and I noticed that. I decided I wanted to play a strong, independent woman who don't need no man, but at the moment, that's not an option because we're so far down on characters that taking risks makes no sense. Once we're up to four, it should get easier, maybe.

Retired

Sorry for my lack of posting. I've had a hard time with Lucia's voice as well. I wanted her to be a bit belligerent and resentful of Ashe, while simultaneously admiring him, but it hasn't worked out at all.

To be honest, though, I've been dealing with other issues as well. I've been job searching with little luck, and over the last month, my grandfather has started dealing with terminal cancer, so some things have been sacrificed. Unfortunately, this game has kind of been one of them.

I've been monitoring the thread, but between not having Lucia's voice and my current issues, it's been a low priority to respond unless I'm needed. If you'll still have me, I'll work on that and would like to stay around. If not, I understand.

Retired

With the heads slain, Lucia steps forward into the hall, cautiously avoiding the slimy results of Ashe and Ebon's work. As she approaches the next door, she mutters a quick cantrip, casting Detect Magic. "I would usually do a more thorough search, but I doubt we're alone down here. We should be a bit more hasty, and perhaps save dismantling the Arkona's toys for once we're certain our target is safe."

Retired

"Ayup. Sooner we get who we came for, the sooner we can deal with the real issues here." Lucia opens the door and strides into the room beyond, confident that there aren't any issues beyond.

Retired

I've recently become aware that today is "GM's Day". Thanks for running this!

Retired

Lucia draws her blade, readying a strike in case Ashe's misses with his.

"Is there a way to see what's in the other chests without opening them?"

Readied Action:

ECB Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
ECB Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Retired

Lucia steps up to the door, looking for trigger devices, hidden blades, or vents for acid or gas, all types of traps she's encountered before.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28

Retired

"Should I pull the lever again? Maybe it'll take us to different places in this labyrinth." Lucia, without any knowledge of spellcraft, doesn't attempt to learn about the glyph.

Retired

Yes. Or at least, Lucia is.

Retired

"Well? Did you find anything of note down there? If not, we should continue moving. I believe the other path ended in a room with a lever. Perhaps we should try that."

Lucia leads the way to the room with the lever, poking at the gap in the floor with her blade.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28

If she doesn't find anything indicating a trap, she steps over cautiously to examine the lever.

Retired

Um, the player said he was having a lot of issues with illness and hasn't updated his gameplay thread for like two months. It's safe to say he's not coming back, or at least, we can treat Astrid like that.

Retired

I'm here and monitoring the thread, but at the moment, it seems the options for Lucia are
1. Go down where Ashe is.
2. Pull the lever in the other room.
3. Shout pointless encouragement.
So it's kind of Ashe's show for a bit, I guess.

Retired

"This wall isn't real. Who knows how far down the pit on the far side goes... What have you found over there? Have you examined the lever?"

Lucia looks down toward the bottom of the hole.

Retired

"Very well, Ashe, though I do not like the looks of that lever in the other room, and will want to return to investigate it."

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

Lucia steps cautiously toward the stairs, looking for tripwire, pressure plates, or any other mundane triggers that may exist. "You know, if I were a powerful devil, and I wanted to build a trap, I would use magic, and my skills will not find those traps. Don't blame me if a gigantic undead tiger teleports in in front on us."

Retired

"My experience with traps has been almost exclusively the mundane variety. Be my guest." Lucia steps out of the way, allowing Ashe to head in first.

Retired

"Well, It doesn't seem as if this is trapped. I'm going to take a look at what's beyond the door."

Lucia tries to open the doors just a hair. If she can, she takes a cautious look inside.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

Retired

"Do either of you sense anything beyond that door?"

Lucia uses detect evil in the direction of the door. She also studies it intently for a few moments, trying to decipher if it's a physical trap.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

Retired

"Mmmmmmm. I would guess this tunnel leads to those you seek. If you would kindly give me oh, about ten feet, then follow. I wouldn't want to have two of us caught in any traps I might trigger."

Lucia steps past Ashe and begins walking carefully down the path, searching as she goes for any physical traps.

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

Checking in. Had a wonderful Christmas.

Retired

So, do we need to rest here? I don't know what EW has left, but if Ashe has used most of his smites for the day, not to mention his channel count is low, we either need to hole up somewhere or find the wizard who's theoretically still waiting for us in here.

To be honest, Lucia's frustration wasn't entirely triggered by Ashe's actions. You play the character how you need to. It was, however, triggered by one small part of your post.

Asherick Whiteplume wrote:
{and not lost on Lucia handsome

That part of the post bothers me a little bit because, while you're free to play your character however you'd like, it's very bold to assume that Lucia finds Ashe attractive.

I don't want to create a massive stir about this, it just bothered me for some reason. I do apologize if my post seemed aggressive or inflammatory for some reason. I'm fine with having a little bit of in-party conflict, especially during a tense situation like this dungeon, but I don't want it to spill over. If you need me to lay off a little, just say the word.

Retired

At Ebon Wings's offer of healing, Lucia nods gratefully, bathing in the glow of healing energy from his wand.

Lucia's eyes narrow as Ashe begins talking, speaking reproachfully to the handsome, but apparently foolish, paladin. "I'll wait to see if we can achieve our goals before I decide whether to forgive you, Sir Ashe. There's no telling how much longer we'll be under this palace, or what other, more foul things we'll face than a single demon and his pets. If we lose our strength too early, we will have no choice but to rest and hope we can remain safe. As for your offer of antitoxins, neither of these wonderful snakes came even close to me. Come, we should press on quickly and pray to the Lady of Graves that fate turns in our favor, for right now it is clearly not."

Not bothering to check the corpses (or pray over them), Lucia turns for the doors, opening them and heading for the single door in the north. When she gets there, she takes a listen to see if she can hear movement on the other side. If she can't, she opens it.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28

Pharasmics aren't usually known for their flowery language, and Lucia's personality is such that she doesn't control her tongue easily.

Retired

Yeah, I know about the AoO, I'm just not sure if you get it because you don't actually have the feat. I hope you do, it'd make things easier in the future.

EDIT:Ruling Question: If Solo Tactics is assuming that Ashe has the feat and that crit he did succeeds, do I then get an AoO? If so, rolls in spoiler:

Waiting on Ruling:

Attack of Opportunity!: 1d20 + 12 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 12 + 4 - 2 = 21 -2 for Power Attack (Furious Focus negated the first penalty)
Damage?: 1d10 + 8 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 6 + (1) = 19

Retired

Round Two!

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Lucia ducks, avoiding the worst of the lightning, although her back is badly singed. She stands and rushes the Rakshasa, ignoring Ashe's telepathic commands to ignore it since there are no other foes standing. She does, however, move into a flanking position with Ashe.

Attack: 1d20 + 12 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 12 + 4 = 33 +4 From Outflank
Critical?: 1d20 + 12 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 12 + 4 + 1 = 26 +4 From Outflank, +1 Trait
Damage: 1d10 + 8 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 6 + (5) = 24 +6 from Power Attack, 1d6 from Precise Strike.
Critical Damage?: 1d10 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 6 = 22

Lucia brings her blade around in a sweeping strike, delivering a crushing blow at the rakshasa.

Move to flanking position, Standard to attack. Not sure what the DR is on these guys, so I can't give you an actual damage number, but pre_DR, it's 48.

Retired

If you'd like, I could loan you my repeating crossbow. You're definitely not proficient, but at least it'd be something to do. besides, these ACs so far seem pretty hit-table.

If we get to the end, that's great. If not, that's also fine. I remember being in a campaign with a couple good friends that lasted all through high school, meeting multiple times a week. We were level 11 at the end. I'm patient, and I have other games going to keep me occupied.

Retired

Round One!

Swift Action to drop Bane, five-foot-step to next snake (assuming it's in range), full attack/power attack.

Lucia hardly pauses as the first snake falls dead, stepping toward the second massive cobra and muttering a quick thanks to Pharasma. She brings her blade first across the serpent's face, then back across its body.

Attack #1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Damage #1: 1d10 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 6 = 23
Attack #2: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 - 1 = 24
Confirm Crit?: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 1 = 9
Damage #2: 1d10 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 6 = 23

Looks like a total of 46. If the snake is to far away for the five-foot-step, just use the first roll series.

Retired

Making some assumptions here. First, we have surprise. Second, the enemy is within charging distance. If either of these aren't true, so be it. AC is currently 20 until next round, so I hope this was a surprise round!

Lucia charges forward toward the closest snake, covering ground quickly. As she goes, she waves her hand over her blade before swinging it down savagely at the closest snake.

Full-Round Charge Power Attack, Swift action Bane (Animals), 1/11 Bane Rounds used

Charge Attack: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 2 + 2 = 34 +2 charge, +2 Bane
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 2 + 2 = 22 +2 charge, +2 Bane
Damage: 1d10 + 8 + 6 + 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 6 + (3, 3) + 2 = 27 +6 Power Attack, +2d6+2 Bane
Crit Damage: 1d10 + 8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 6 + 2 = 22 +6 Power Attack, +2 Bane

Total Damage to Snake #1: 49

Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Retired

"So, kick in the door, then? I suppose it'll do. Wait on Ashe's mark? Just let me..." Lucia waves her holy symbol around, praying to Pharasma for protection and tearing up a small scrap of paper. "Okay, I think we're ready. At least, I am." She takes a position on the right side of the door and readying her blade.

If we're kicking in the door, I'd like to cast Resistance on everyone (+1 to saves) and Shield of Faith on myself (+3 to AC). All durations are 1 minute. If not, I'd prefer to save my spells.

AC and saves have not been adjusted for me yet

Retired

Lucia waves at Ashe and Ebon Wings, signaling to them that there's at least one potential enemy on the other side of the door. She steps away quietly. "Do you two have a plan for entering a room with enemies in it?"

Retired

I'm going to be away from my usual computer for a few days for Thanksgiving. I'll try to post when I can, but it could be rocky. Just letting you all know.

Retired

I haven't seen Astrid in a while, and her player is my DM in another game. He said he's been really sick for the past week. Hope he's okay.

Still holding her blade in both hands, Lucia moves quietly behind Ashe. "Perhaps we should check the double doors as well. I do not trust this place."

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21

Retired

"I assume we head down the rope bridges, toward the water I heard below? Let's get moving, then." Lucia steps onto the first rope bridge, making her way down the series of ledges toward the bottom.

Retired

Hmmm. There's a lot of issues here. First, the duration is only 2/level, so 16 hours. In all likelihood, that's not a problem because if we're in here longer than 16 hours, we're probably all dead. Second, it doesn't stop people from entering the circle, so there's a real possibility that he could be moved. There's also a lot of questions regarding souls and bodies. Has Graxer's soul left his body, and is it on the way to its place at Gorum's side? If not, can we get it moving faster? I mean, I've got some pull with Pharasma, and I'm sure you've got quite a bit (you do have a Nosoi, after all). Could we talk to her and get her to shorten Graxer's Path?

I'll hold off on Consecrate for now.

Retired

I can cast Consecrate. It'll prevent any undead in the area of effect from being raised for 24 hours, I believe. It's a temporary solution, assuming we don't stay in the Arkona's house for more than a day or so. I don't have the ability to cremate it at the moment, so unless you do, that's not an option.

Retired

Lucia looks shaken for a moment. "I...I see. Well, sir Ebon Wings, I would very much enjoy speaking with you about your death and rebirth, and as I hunt those who corrupt the cycle of life and death, you have my blade in your search for vengeance. However...as Ashe has said, we have little time. If you have concerns about your friend returning, I could consecrate his remains, as well as the area around him." Lucia begins rummaging around in her pouch for silver dust. " Oh! We tracked you to the Arkona's palace. Why? For what reason did you come here?"

Not going to cast Consecrate unless EW and Ashe decide it's what they want done. Let's get to it. I hope Edmung Gwenn is still waiting in his cell. Last I heard, he was combing cockroaches out of his beard.

Retired

Lucia kneels beside the grieving Ebon Wings, placing a hand she hopes is comforting on his shoulder. "I do not think that Graxer's god would allow his soul to suffer that fate. Gorum's wrath is well-known, and few would cross him or the Lady of Graves. I have confidence his afterlife will be as his life was. Now, what was that voice you spoke to? I would know more about you if I am to be working with you in the near future. Ashe I know, and he has my respect, for he helped to bring my most evasive quarry to justice. Who are you, and who is your invisible friend?"

Retired

"Of all the foolish requests! If we were Rakshasas, would it not have been easier for us to end you when those skeletons walked? It would have been even easier to simply let them kill you. Give me the knife! There is nothing for you to fear." Questioning the Pharasmic Order's integrity? How does he dare such, after all our support. Lucia quickly draws the dagger across her right thumb, letting more than a drop of blood spill before wrapping her own cloak around the cut. She hands the knife back to Asherick and walks away.

After a moment, Lucia calms herself, remembering that Ashe has just lost a friend and was likely recovering from the shock. "I mean no disrespect to you, Ashe. d'Bear sent me, and if her opinion of you was good enough to offer the Cathedral's assistance, I suppose I should at least trust you. As for our noticing someone on entry, we only saw corpses. In fact, we only saw corpses across much of Old Korvosa. Corpses, a group of street-urchins, and a strangely-dressed elf escorting a terrified man. I only hope those you killed walk the right Path now. My Lady of Graves has been busy with this city, it would be a shame to add more untimely work for her."

Retired

This man hasn't even met me, and he's passing judgment. Is it the ears? I hope it's not the ears...

She adjusts the dwarf's sword and stands slowly, turning toward the paladin.

"Greetings, Ashe. Bishop d'Bear sends her regards. As I've said, I'm Lucia Selito, half-elf half-moth and lifetime native of Korvosa. I'm currently on orders from the bishop to track you down. My fellow Pharasmics have decided (too late, in my opinion) that the blood veil plague represents a break with the balance of life and death, and they've sent me as their representative. I know your name, for I've seen you at the Cathedral before, and I approve of many, if not all, of your deeds."

Lucia gestures at the fallen dwarf, then at the skeletons.

" I fear your friend has been claimed by the Lady of Graves, or perhaps Gorum. He died doing the work of both, and Pharasma will see that he goes to his Lord's side. What is this place beneath the Arkona's palace, and who is responsible for these abominations? I must speak with them...with my blade, for this blasphemy cannot stand unpunished."

Let's see how he likes being judged. Casting Detect Alignment on Asherick, though I already know what it'll come up as. Also, I have the Guide to Korvosa, and I intend to use the slang as it applies. Moth is Varisian.

Retired

Lucia coughs once, hoping that none of the spores made it into her lungs. She pops the magazine off her repeating crossbow and places two more bolts in before clipping it back to the stock. I suppose introductions are in order, and then I should see about sending these to the Spiral properly. She steps toward the ledge, looking down at Asherick while trying to avoid the wind and dust kicked up by the stormcloud of Ebon Wings.

"Hello down there! You must be Asherick! I'm Lucia! Come up here so we can speak properly; I have work here still!"

She steps away from the edge before he can answer, kneeling by the battered and broken skeletons. "Lady of Graves, guide these lost spirits on their way back to you, and know that they did not cling to our world of their own accord. Take them swiftly into the Boneyard, and let them walk the Path to you and to eternity, for this Path was not theirs, and the Path will choose the walker." Lucia drags her open palm across the skeleton's eye sockets, simulating the closing of the eyes, before finishing with a spiraling motion over their ribcages.

Heal (signs of life): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

And as for the dwarf... She checks the body, searching for a sign of life. She sees no breathing, but his injuries seem impossible to sustain, so she begins looking for an indication of his faith so that she can consign his soul to the right god or goddess. Finding a tattooed symbol of Gorum, she places the dwarf's greatsword on his chest in a position of honor, beginning her prayer to Pharasma.

"Lady of Graves, this spirit belongs to the Lord in Iron. This dwarf is a man who walked his path of his own accord, and though his friends will mourn him, he chose this fate and accepted it with open arms. May you speed him to his Lord, and may Gorum allow this triumphant warrior into his host, embracing him as a brave and bloodthirsty warrior. Go now, friend dwarf, for life is no longer your Path."She shuts his eyes before gesturing in the same spiraling motion, finishing the quick rites.

Retired

I know I've been checking in a few times a day. I was hoping this thread wasn't dead. Glad to see it's not.

Retired

Hey, I know that prayer, just can't ever remember the language! Another Pharasmic, perhaps? At least some others trying to carry out Her work.

As the winds picks up over the edge of the ledge, Lucia shouts a few words at the undead before her. "In the Lady of Grave's name, you will walk the path, abominations!" As she yells this, her left hand makes a quick spiraling motion over her crossbow, and she fires at the nearest skeletal creature.

+1 Repeating Crossbow #1: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 = 21
Damage?: 1d8 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 3 = 7
+1 Repeating Crossbow #2: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 2 = 22
Damage?: 1d8 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 3 = 8

Swift action to pick judgements (Destruction +3 Damage, Justice +2 Attack), Full Attack (1 bolt left in repeating crossbow). Hey, it's not a lot, but at least I'm on the scoreboard now, maybe. Hopefully it's alright for me to act here, I'm not sure what's been resolved and what hasn't.

Edit: Just saw that the Nosoi's fascinate affects undead AND living. Here's a will save, if I need that.
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Retired

Lucia takes a look at the dwarf and skeletons, moves away from them while drawing her repeating crossbow and setting her sword down, and takes a shot at the nearest skeleton.

+1 Repeating Crossbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Damage?: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

I'd also like to make a knowledge check this round to see if I know what these things are and what their weaknesses are.

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

Retired

CTK, aka Astrid, is DMing another campaign I'm part of. I could shoot him a message, if you'd like.

Retired

Glad to be on board, Megan.

What's this? a secret passage? Let's see if we can figure out its tricks.

Lucia fumbles with the podium for a while before finding the pressure plate. As the passageway swings open, the stocky half-elf offers a quick prayer to her goddess.

"Lady of Graves, protect us and let us go swiftly to your side if we fall. Let us root out what abominations there may be here, for this is not their path."

She checks to make sure her armor is securely fastened, pulls her father's second-best blade free of its back sheath, then steps down the spiraling metal stairs.

Do you want initiative rolls to join the current combat? If so, here it is.
Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Alright, the crunch is ready, the backstory is ready, and I've got a rough idea of Lucia's personality. I've reread 117 onward, and I'm ready to play.

Crunch-wise, I'm pretty much ready. I'll need to spend maybe an hour this morning developing a solid idea of her personality and have to finish deciding what random mundane items I'll need, but I can be posting in the next 24 hours.

@ Asherick
Alright, I'll work up a backstory that incorporates this stuff. I've been browsing the gameplay thread, like I said, and it looks like a fun group with some cool dynamics.

EDIT: Given that Lamm has been a non-issue for about 2 1/2 books at this point, do you still want us to take campaign traits?
