Playing Skulls and Grapples... er I mean Skulls and Shackles and my Barbarian got hit by 2 different Ghouls in the same round and I failed 3 of the 4 Fort Saves ( 1 Save for some disease and another for the paralyzation)..

I actually rolled 3 ones in a row and made one save... didn't matter because I failed one of the paralyze saves so I was out for the rest of the combat... I somehow survived the combat (thanks to party) and now I have a dilemma since I"m only level 3 (Barbarian 2/ Oracle of Battle 1)

Spoke with the DM and he's not exactly sure if I should get double the Ghoul Disease or just one,ect... but since I rolled two 1s (3 technically) he might just add them together and every day I will have to make 2 saving throws (2 consecutively to combat the disease I believe for each infliction)..

Anyways we were wondering what the rules were exactly about this. Even if not RAW I think I'm gonna be screwed until I get lucky again with the DICE or somehow find a Pirate Paladin or 5th level Cleric that actually likes me(Cure Disease).

Every Combat I almost die... Is this how Barbarians live?

Do racial bonuses stack from the advanced Race Guide's Alternative Racial Subtypes? Page 42

For Example, the Half Elf Racial subtype Human Raised provides integrated and wary racial traits, which both give bonuses to Bluff (+1 )...

Intergrated says this racial trait gives +1 Bonus to Bluff

wary +1 racial trait bonus to Bluff

Sooo can racial traits or traits in general be added together?

PS.. Can you take the adopted trait and take the Orc Trait dirty fighter which also gives you a +3 racial Bonus to Bluff?

So I'm making a Barbarian/Oracle for an upcoming Skulls and Shackles game (Level 1.. using Apprentice rules) and one of the campaign Traits is

Campaign Trait Peg Leg::
One of your legs was bitten off below the knee by a shark when you were just a child, and was replaced
with a wooden peg leg (Pathfinder Player Companion:
Pirates of the Inner Sea 20). You’ve long since gotten used to your prosthesis, however, and take none of the normal penalties from having a peg leg. You’ve had to learn to deal with the pain of your injury as well, and you gain a +1 trait bonus on Fortitude saves. Ever since your accident you’ve hated sharks, and you also gain a +1 trait bonus on
damage rolls against sharks and other animals with the aquatic subtype.

Anyhow I believe the Barbarian's Fast movement is countered by the Oracle's Lame Curse(you get +10 movement and then -10 movement) but correct me if I"m wrong. (My first question).

My 2nd question is more about how to roleplay and not about rules per se.

Question is normally I would roleplay the Peg Leg you have a limp in your walking but I was going to say that the lame leg was the one that was replaced by the peg leg. (in essence, the Curse transferred to the Peg Leg).

However, would the Oracle's Curse transfer to the other leg? Would this character have a lame leg and a peg leg? How would that work thematically?

Oracle Curses cannot be suppressed except by deities or GM,ect.

Edit: The character is not fully optimized character and infact I"m taking extra Trait Feat to get more traits to enhance the character.

Also I just realized that if the peg leg is removed from my character's body, then the curse would probably just transfer over to the other leg. (Without a Peg Leg your movement is halved). I guess I sort of answered my question a bit then...

My Original character idea was to have 2 Peg Legs, 2 prosthetic arms, and an eye patch ala Seamus from Family Guy but my Gm pretty much said no.

So I've come to the conclusion that I have Kleptomania (also I bite my nails constantly and sometimes have obsessive compulsive disorders like minor hoarding although nothing too extreme like in the TV shows).

My friends and family have told me for years but I've always disregarded the statements.

Before Pathfinder and DnD I used to play old school RPGs computer games like Ultima, Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest), Final Fantasy, ect.

In those games I would accumulate a lot of items and special magic items and I would try to save them. In Final Fantasy III I believe you can save 100s of items in some Fat Chocobo in the back of an airship.

In Borderlands 1 game, I have 30 mules(extra characters made just for storing items) full of weapons and items for that game.

I almost never sell any item in video games or in real life. I still own the first TV I ever bought by myself in 1992. I have a house with 3 rooms and one room has about 70 boxes full of stuff plus 5 old TVs and old console games (Atari 2600 all the way to current Gen games)

When I first played Dungeons and Dragons (2nd edition) back in 1995 I would die because I would not use Cure Potions (saving it for a rainy day?).

Its almost like I can't help myself... I'm part Dragon and I need to collect as much crap as possible... in real life, in video games, and in Dungeons and Dragons.. and until recently.. Pathfinder.

My current character is a Gnome Druid with a 10 Strength, so at the low levels I would secretly put most of my gear inside the backpack of our Fighter Dwarf (who did not mind much)... Almost all my previous characters I have ever played always had a high Strength, just to carry rations, 100 feet of rope, pitons, sleeping bag, ect

But my DM forced me to watch my encumbrance... so much that I had to stop carrying rope, cut back on the rations, no bedrool, ect. It was REALLY hard and I did not realize that basically I was metagaming all those years with different characters and races, yet they all had the same equipment each time in their backpacks, ect.

Now I'm 10 level Druid, and I have Handy Haversack, and I took scribe scroll, and the DM is noticing I'm hoarding scrolls, gems, ect. He is cool enough to let it slide, since I did hint that my character loves gems (Gnomes usually do), but he is contantly checking my character sheet for encumbrance, which I do not mind.

But it made me wonder if other people have had similar experiences?

FYI My old buddies used to call me a Kender before I knew what the term was.. .they handed me some Dragon Lance books and I read them. Sometimes I do unknowingly take people's Dice and Pens and one time a character sheet. Luckily they are mature enough not to beat me with a stick like they would a real life Kender.

Been playing since 1995 (2nd edition) with an extended break when 3.0 came out (sort of ruined it for me but Pathfinder brought me back)..

So while I'm not exactly a novice player I'm not one of those optimized character makers.

We are now 10th level starting the 4th book in the Jade Regent and our latest Tank (Dwarven Fighter) is now retiring (player was getting bored with the character) so we have no tank now in our party.

Party now consists of:

Cleric with Bow feats and 10 CON
Rogue (no info)
Bard
Gnome Druid w/Fire Domain with 10 STR and usually spell slinging.

My Gnome Druid does have an 18 COn but Armor is so so (AC 22)

I'm not usually doing tank roles but I have the opportunity to either purchase a +3 Cloak of Resistance or improve my armor (shield and leaf armor are +1 currently)..

But at level 10 it seems the monsters hit you no matter what.. but saving throws are whats really important..

So should I just spend all my money on this cloak or get a little better AC?

Headband of Wisdom uses the headband SLOT while Gem of Brightness uses NO SLOT and only command words to use.

I am thinking of gluing(attaching) them together with a Jeweler.

At 9th Level a Druid is immune to all poisons.

Since alcohol is a type of poison (it really is) does that mean a Druid can no longer get intoxicated or drunk? Is my 30 pound Gnome forever forbidden from hangovers and pass out parties?

3 people marked this as FAQ candidate. 1 person marked this as a favorite.

This came up in our campaign recently.

We are playing an AP (which I won't mention) and we killed a dragon (young adult) a few months ago. We lost our Paladin in the fight but we were victorious and took some Dragon blood, teeth, scales (not enough for armor but we made some nice gloves), and took the wings off. We did not desecrate or dismember the corpse... just took off what we needed.

Later on in the campaign we killed a crapload of Yetis. My Gnome Druid wanted to skin (get some pelts) but the DM reminded us that skinning an intelligent humanoid (Yeti) is considered an EVIL ACt (my Druid is neutral Good).

I'm not disagreeing with the GM. Infact it opened my eyes to how things have changed since I started playing back in 1995. Back in 2nd edition EVERYTHING was just a monster. Infact it was a monster manual and we did actually skin some Yetis back then. As Adventurers we skinned just about everything (except other humans or orcs or golbins).

But now that everything is classified and tagged with different creature types, its sort of like the Modern Humans of this world have put their Morals and Ethics into a Fantasy world. For example its ok to Boil alive Lobsters but NOT Puppies. (Lobsters look like monsters, and puppies are cute, but they are both animals) Perhaps its for the better.

Its ok to Skin an intelligent Dragon type, but not an intelligent Humanoid type? I'm just curious if this has happened to other groups.

Call Lightning

Immediately after casting this spell you can take a standard action(concentrating on a spell) to call a bolt..(1 bolt/ level usually)

I understand the first round is like casting a spell and so provokes, but do the additional bolts in subsequent rounds also provoke attacks of opportunity?

Can you cast Defensively the additional bolts to not provoke(if it does provoke at all)? What happens if you fail the check, do you lose the spell as it is written?

Casting on the Defensive: Casting a spell while on the defensive does not provoke an attack of opportunity. It does, however, require a concentration check (DC 15 + double the spell's level) to successfully cast the spell. Failure means that you lose the spell.

I know Owls have a stealth skill but I assumed its because they hunt during the night and get concealment plus hiding in trees, ect.

But what about Wildshaped into an Air Elemental (small)? Can you use the Stealth Skill while hovering? Air Elementals do not use wings to FLY.

Can you use the Stealth Skill to hide 20 feet in the air during the day with no concealment or cover or anything substantial to offer a hiding place?

This came up tonight in our Game.

Can you take off your backback... Wildshape into an Air Elemental (small) and then put the backpack back on?

What about weapons and/or other equipment?

What about other elementals? Earth? Water? Fire? Would he Fire Elemental burn off the backpack straps or force a magical Fire Save?

What about Handy Haversacks?

Our current campaign I decided as a Gnome Druid to take off my backpack and then wildshape and then put the backpack(Handy haversack) back on.. because then I can use scrolls or potions in the backback. (normally your backpack melds into your form)..We were going to fight a Dragon so thats why I did this.

The Gm said no problem... however I wonder what would happen with the other Elemental forms? Especially Fire Elemental/

I can't seem to use the search function correctly(with success)... Been trying to find spells with the Fire Descriptor..

Specifically I'm playing a Gnome Druid with pyro racial trait and I have the Fire Domain..

I guess I can go through by hand all the spells in the Core Rulebook, Advanced Players Guide, and Ultimate Books... but was hoping for a quicker and online version way of doing this..

Thanks in advance

I've searched the Forums but found no real concrete rules on this..

While Wildshaped.. Can you use Produce Flame as a melee touch attacks with your regular animal attacks?

What about Flame Blade? If I wildshaped into a Leopard... would one of my paws have a Flame blade sticking out of it?

So Far the only thing I can see per RAI is the Produce Flame Range Touch attack version in which you can hurl your Flame 120 feet (as an Eagle or Flying creature I guess you could hurl the little Fireball with one of your wings?.

I'm not trying to get multiple melee attacks each with Produce Flame... only 1 per round... For example:

Round 1: WildShape into Leopard
Round 2: Cast Produce Flame
Round 3: Full Attack > bite +6 (1d6+3), 2 claws +6 (1d3+3) + Produce Flame Damage..

Would that work>? Or as a melee touch I can either make normal animal attacks OR the single melee Touch Attack of Produce Flame..

What about Flame Blade?

I just leveled up to 4th Level Gnome Druid with Fire Domain... I understand that you need a Feat to cast Spells while Wildshaped (Natural Spell) but what about Domain Powers or Gnome spell like abilities (SLA)?

Can I Fire Bolt while flying around as an Eagle?

I'm playing a Paladin in a Kingmaker game and we found a while ago a nifty Bastard Sword.. Originally the Ranger/Bard in the Party took it but she sadly died last game session (Wyverns, and so I now have the weapon...

...but I don't care too much for it... but the DM hinted to us that its an important Sword (it was broken and we had it repaired)..

My Paladin has a magic shield and Shield Focus feat... so I"m a sword and Board character... I would never use the Bastard Sword two handed...

The Bastard Sword is considered a Martial Weapon if used two handed... otherwise you need to burn a Feat on Exotic Weapon Proficiency...

MY Question is what penalty does my Paladin have using the Bastard Sword One handed WITHOUT the Feat?

I was thinking its minus 2 (-2).. since its more of a larger one handed weapon... so its more of a size difference than a random weapon of exotic nature...

anyways..thanks in advance

My character died (Kingmaker campaign) and my backup will be a Gnome Druid with the Ape Animal Companion... I am going to put the first ability increase into the Ape's Intelligence...

doing so... Can my Ape now use magic items? Can he use a HAt of Disguise? Would this require a Trick or extra training? Its going to be hard to walk into towns with a 400lb, 8 foot tall creature... I figured a Hat of Disguise would suffice..

PS... I haven't asked the DM yet... he tends to say No alot (for a good reason with me).. but first I would like the opinions of others.

Thanks for your time

First of all... sorry for bringing this up... but I haven't played Dnd in 10 years... back when 3rd edition came out (really ruined the hobby for me with those horrible rules)..

I came back because of Paizo and Pathfinder... and Pathfinder fixed alot of the problems I had with ole 3rd edition (but some things drive me crazy like Horse Stats)..

..anyways I understand how bonuses stack and do not stack... but I"m still confused if Mage Armor Spell can stack with Bracers of Armor

PS.. I've tried to use SEarch but it came up with lots of Bracers of Armor stacking or not stacking with regular armor... not the Spell Mage Armor..

Thanks in advance

Is there any racial archtypes or rules or something that can have a Dwarf not have a -2 to Chr? I was looking at an Oracle with the Battle Mystery but the Dwarven -2 to Chr really hurts... especially since my highest roll is 15 (which means a 13... not horrible but still)

If not I was thinking of asking the DM if I could take away the +2 Wis and -2 Chr and just keep the +2 to Con.. since Dwarves are hardy..

I really want to play a Dwarven Battle Oracle (its a backup character) instead of the normal Dwarven Cleric everyone plays...

New to Pathfinder... haven't played since 2001 the ole 3.0 edition...

Just started with some old and new people.. and we have 4 Pcs and a Dm.. playing Kingmaker starting level 1..

The DM made us not tell what character and class each Pc was playing until we sat down (exciting and nerve racking at the same time)..

I honestly didn't know what to play.. so I made a Half-elf multiclasses (apprentice) Fighter/Deviner (specialist wizard) with a magical knack trait..

The other Pc characters are

Aasimar Sorcerer with Draconic bloodline?

Half-Elf ranger from Southern continent

Tiefling? Druid/Bard carries a club sized for Giants.. cast Shillelagh to get the 3d6 damage..

and then me.. the Fighter/ Diviner... honestly for roleplaying and in real life my character doesn't know which class to excel or go into.. or just go up in each level evenly.. or maybe decide to follow one only..
Was thinking of maybe doing arcane archer eventually..

Just asking for other people's advice..

PS.. the Dm has stated that this Kingmaker is very open sandbox and can take years (game years) to play out... did first session last Friday... very fun...
