was there any update to the age old question about sustaining a spell multiple times? or are we still following that thread that long ago stated that you could only sustain once unless the spell specifically stated otherwise? I did look myself and did not see anything specifically mentioned. but if I missed it, please point me to the right place to look.

Thank you

hey everyone!

so I was wondering what people think of as the best fights or creature reveals in kingmaker. I have access to a 3d printer and intend on printing at least the biggest bad or best shocking reveal (fight wise) and paint them up for my table top. clearly it would be easy enough to print up the end fight from each chapter, but there are other fights throughout the path that would make for great "gotcha" moments as I place a model on the board. so if you don't mind, please let me know your opinions on the best fights.

Thanks ahead of time!

So my players have captured Giord. so, with the crimes the party tallied against Giord, they are not willing to let him go. they are planning on disguising one of the other players as Giord for the meet up with Maurissa. It's a good plan, so I am eager to see what happens, especially when she realizes what is going on.

I was curious if other GMs had their groups try similar tactics and how they resolved the situation. clearly they are going to be out numbered and overpowered if it comes to a fight, and I imagine Maurissa to be mighty angry with them when she figures it out.

hey everyone!

I am planning on running this adventure path starting this saturday. something about the blanket ignoring of the -2 penalty to use a lethal weapon to cause nonlethal damage has been bugging me. I was just wondering how other people are handling it.

below is how I plan on handling it. I may adjust based on if I like some of your ideas.

so, all PCs will have their normal gear but will also be issued some nonlethal weapons, either saps, batons, or the like. using their lethal weapons to cause nonlethal works as normal, but they have options now. in some situations they may feel their lives are in danger and switch to their real weapons, and that makes sense to me. but their precinct still wants people brought in alive. if they kill the criminal, they only receive half their loot, as the precinct will take the rest to pay for body disposal and other issues. unless the precinct decides that it was unwarranted, then they will receive nothing in compensation.

My hope is that this encourages them to find a nonlethal option without hamstringing them.

howdy,

I am here on behalf of my group that is looking for a GM for pathfinder campaign (or up for other systems as well). we have a space to play, and are looking for someone to run on an every other Wednesday schedule, usually from 6pm to 10pm.

we have enough players to fill a 4-6 player party depending on the GM's preferences. we are also all over 18 and play in a game club that is 18+. so no worries about kids being all over the place.

if you are interested please post here. I will check as frequently as I can.

Thanks,
Clammy

hello all,

I did some search-fu and saw that the pirate flip map and the ships interior flip maps are a good buy for this AP. are there other maps of ships that are useful or are they all contained in the AP ?

if there are other maps out there that I can acquire for ships in this AP I would appreciate any suggestions.

thanks

Hey guys,

Anyone else think it's odd that there isn't a reward from standpoint built into the end of the adventure ? They thwarted a pretty serious threat (if not many) to sandpoint and they get not even a nod in the conclusion.

I plan on having something to celebrate the characters in my campaign. Just thought it was odd.

If anyone did reward their players, what did you do? Interested to see what others did as I figure out what I am going to do.

Thanks,
Clammy

Anyone use a white board for their minis ?

I just got a 6'x4' whiteboard for a table top and was thinking about using it for pathfinder. Converting every 5' increment into 1" on the board and using tape measures or rulers for movement and ranges. I would just need to work on spell templates for cones and such.

Just looking for some inspiration.

Thanks,

Howdy,

I have a group of 4 running ROTRLAE , we just started and are part way through the first adventure.

We could use another player in the group. We have a paladin, a cleric, a ranger, and a rogue so far. We play every other Monday (so 2 weeks from today would be the next game).

We play in a gaming club, southern new england gaming club, in Swansea Massachusetts.

If you are interested and available, or have questions, please pm me.

Thanks,

Hey everyone,

With the FAQ that let's a SLA meet a prereq for a prestige class, I am thinking for going mystic theurge.

I have an aasimar support (buff/debuff/control) cleric of abadar with a 12 int, 18 wis, and 18 cha. I would probably benefit more from a level in sorcerer because of my charisma, but I love the wizard's versatility (though I could be convinced to go sorc). In time I will bring up my int so I can cast higher level spells, but for now I know my DCs will be crap.

I was thinking either illusionist or conjurer. Though I will only be taking 1 level in this so the schools aren't that big a deal. I will however need buff spells and spells that won't require a save as my DC will be abysmal.

I would appreciate any advice or thoughts on this that the community may offer.

Thanks,
Clammy

I posted this in error in the ROTRL forum previously. Would we be able to get a sub forum for the anniversary edition ? It can sometimes be confusing as to which version people refer to in their posts as some people still use the 3.5 version.

Just curious. Thanks

Is it possible to create a sub-forum within this one just to hold anniversary edition threads ?

It can get a little confusing when reading through all the posts sometimes.

Hey guys,

Been running several ideas in my head for a shattered star campaign coming up. We decided to limit ourselves to religious classes (save one member with a decent story for why he isn't). Only restriction is that we must start as a religious class, but can swap into something else at later levels.

So far we have the following:

Oracle (earth or stone mystery, who will be taking the long road to mystic the urge with sorcerer levels)
Paladin warrior of the holy light
Paladin hospitaler
Cavalier (some archetype that is a bodyguard style, meant to be our honor guard)

And then me. I initially thought of an inquisitor, but then decided to go for a monk (martial artist). But I just wanted to get some opinions. We all worship abadar also.

Rolled stats are
16
13
16
12
14
10

Thanks guys.

Hey everyone,

So my PCs stormed the fort last session. Bypassed exploring the bog for now and didn't even enter town.

They went in stealthy and invisible, levitated up to the third floor, dispelled the window covers, and stormed in. Best fight was with stroon. He force walled the party into 3 groups and only had to face the party monk, whom he disintegrated, then died to the party as the wall came down that same turn.

The baron was a joke and they "rescued" the baron's mistress. They then challenged the guards outside to an honorable duel of best warriors winner takes all. The guards agreed since they really didn't stand much of a chance, and chose one of the giants to fight the party's Pali. Didn't last long, giant dead at the pali's feet, the guards filed out of the fort and the city, the other giants attacked the party out of anger for their fallen brother.

The part got 22 liberation points that night alone and have claimed the town (not incorporated into their nation yet though).

Good night for them. How many other parties did something similar, storming the fort and bypassing the town.

We are running the AP sometime soon, and I was wondering if anyone had updated the traits from the players guide to pathfinder rules?

Hey everyone,

How do the new classes (apg on) hold upin the LOF? Do any potentially break the module? Just curious as we may be running it soon.

Thanks
Clam

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

howdy everyone,

I just had a couple questions for GMs that ran this part of the AP already. I did some search-fu and couldn't find what I was looking for.

so, phases 1-3 of the attack, is it just one roll per phase or more ? I didnt see it mentioned in the module.

if it is just one roll per phase, won't that run things too quick for the battle points to accumulate properly ? I'm all for the PCs winning, but from what I read the attackers don't have much of a chance of coming close to the BPs that the PCs can accumulate.

As always, Thanks for all the help.

Hello,

I have a 4th level alchemist with feral mutation. Now, because I do not have claws in my base form I do not qualify for feats such as rending claws from the apg? Or do I count as having them for the feat?

My group ran into a similar issue with a synthasist summoner wanting to take improved Nat attack but didn't have Nat attacks in his base form.

Thanks everyone,
Clams

hey everyone,

I did some searchfu, but found the threads lacking what I was looking for.

I am running a kingmaker campaign where one of my players is running a summoner. when the new magic book came out the synthesist caught his eye, and it did sound cool to me too. but after his conversion it looks a bit too good to be true.

at 8th level, he out armors the fighter (at his best, using feats), and this is before spells like shield.

I've heard that the summoner may lack a little in the late game, and rock in the early levels. but where do things level out ?

compared to a druid's companion (which we have one in the group as well) the eidolon begins to outpace it, and other characters (even combat classes) pretty quickly. add in the spells from the summoner, and it just gets better.

I don't dislike the summoner, I just want to better understand how other people see it. aside from tailoring every encounter to be able to deal with this synthesist combo, I don't know what to do about it at this point, I'd rather not nerf it if I can avoid it.

also, a couple other questions popped up:

1)does the summoner's armor bonus apply when he wears his eidolon ? it seems like it does by the book as the eidolon can apply all of its armor to nat armor, but this catapults the armor up quite a bit. for example our 8th level summoner will have a 33-34 armor class, before shield or other spells. this beats our fighter, who maxes out at a 31 with all his feats and armor.

2)"The synthesist gains the eidolon’s hit points as temporary hit points." now, my understanding is that temp hit points can not be "healed", so once the eidolon's hit points are out, he goes back home until he is re-summoned. I saw that some people want to use the eidolon healing spell to fix this. I am inclined to not allow the eidolon to be healed in this way in an attempt to bring in a little balance. views ?

thanks for reading, sorry if anything seemed a little ranty. also, thanks for any comments.

hey guys and gals,

(Please, no spoilers)

I would like to play a two-handed weapon wielding fighter type in this new SS campaign starting next week.

now according to the players companion for the AP, I should stick away from heavy armors. so I started making a two-handed fighter from the APG. seeing as how I didnt need to wear heavy armor I figured that I could do away with the armor training in favor of the other bonuses.

we are doing a 20pt build (at least, may be 25). and I didn't care for the way it came out. considering I wasn't going to brick out on AC, I went for light armor to max out my speed. but that left me with a 16 ac, and I just didnt care for it at all. I was wondering what sage advice I may be able to garner from the forums here.

my stat layout was as follows:
str-14
dex-14
con-14
int-13
wis-12
cha-10

I went with human (stat boost to str). with combat exp, imp trip, and wpn focus. I would love some advice. also I am not limited to the fighter, though I would prefer to be a two-handed type with the fighters BAB progression.

Thanks guys.

howdy all,

so I just ran the Grigori encounter last night. I enjoyed it because it wasn't like any of the other encounters to this point. My players were thoroughly frustrated by him, it was great.

basically the players stopped back home, found Grigori preaching in the town commons to a large group of towns folk. they engaged grigori in a back and forth debate about what they have done for the people and what grigori wants the people to believe that they are not doing.

eventually (after several awesome rolls by grigori, and few diplomacy wins for the PCs) the Baron decided that enough was enough and had grigori escorted to his room at his in with a stern warning to "cut the crap". the people were not too happy, but the debate ended on a minor victory for the PCs, so they didn't do or say much. the baron rolled a nat 20 for his final diplomacy and I used that as a way for them to shut grigori up for a day while he regained his courage and thought up new ways to attack the barony's leadership.

the next day, grigori stayed in his room at the in while the PCs celebrated the loss of a player (who died fighting the trolls) with a feast in town. the next day however Grigori was back out there stirring the pot. having told grigori to end the BS already, they had their Warden and town guards pick him up. they asked him some questions (to which they received no answers) and then locked him up for the night to try again tomorrow (with help from a few of the cleric's spells, like zone of truth).

the next day grigori is dragged in front of the Baron and other council members. the cleric casts zone of truth, detect evil, and detect chaos on him, and as he was locked up (and was unable to use one of his potions) they determined that he was chaotic, but not evil in alignment. though when asked questions under the zone, he refused to acknowledge the barony's right to question him.

at this point they brought grigori outside, in front of the large crowd that gathered in protest of his arrest. The PCs then asked him to tell the crowd why he is really here. Grigori, not lying, stated to the crowd that he is under a magical spell compelling him to say things he doesn't want to, and refuses to speak further, to which the crowd roars with anger.

the players, fed up with grigori, exile him with stipulation that if he return, it is under penalty of death. the crowd, not happy, lets the PCs know. and the party is awarded a total of 6 unrest (2 for the initial damage by grigori and an additional 4 for exiling him without a trial).

after the encounter is resolved I explained to the players the other options available; trial, bribery, eliminating him quietly (though a mostly good party, they didnt feel that this was warranted), etc.. they also felt, that this being a feudal society, that a trial would have been out of the norm for a community of this kind. and with no formal laws presented to the people, they used brevoy as a guide (to which I unfortunately had little info on their laws and practices).

I know it was supposed to be frustrating, and I enjoyed that fact as the GM, but their chief complaint is that a trial would never have happened if this was in feudal England for example. that the baron or king would have made the ruling on the situation (like he did in this case) and that that would be the end of it, and that the citizens were expecting too much by wanting a trial.

so I was wondering what kind of governments are surrounding this area of the world and how others treated this situation. also, did anyone else have this encounter end like this ? similar views to my PCs ?

thanks everyone,
Clammy

hey everyone,

so far in my kingmaker campaign (we're in RRR right now), my players haven't gotten into magic item spamming to fund their kingdom.

I thought I would just omit this part from my campaign all together. but I was thinking about it and I would like to keep some of it in there to spice things up.

so the first issue is why does the kingdom get the full sell price for one of these items ? the way I read it, the items are procured by the building the allows them, and they would be the ones actually selling the item. they wouldn't just hand over their profits to the state.

but they would hand over a tax.

*minor items wouldn't generate a BPs worth of tax, so the only benefit of selling these off would be to flush them and get new ones in.

*medium items would generate 1bp. That's a 12.5% tax, which may be steep depending on your nations policies, but is as low as we can go and still get a bp amount.

*Major items would generate 2bp. its actually a little less than this, but I rounded up to the nearest full BP.

overall I think this will let them feel like selling these items is beneficial to their nation without it being overpowering.

thoughts, concerns ?

thanks,
Clammy

Edit: I guess these could be upped with higher tax rates, if the PCs wanted to risk it.

I am not meaning to have an evil campaign here (though, I suppose this would work for one).

what I am interested in is a campaign where the bad guys are maybe misguided or too blinded by their goals to realize what they are doing.

maybe even their leadership is evil, and the rest don't know so they follow their orders.

I love the idea of throwing moral issues at my PCs and making them have to think of alternatives to "kill the enemy". obviously throughout the campaign they would have to kill a lot of their foes, but when they fully realize that their enemies are the good guys mislead by their leadership they may have to change up their tactics.

my ideas here are basic, and I know that the AP crew could come up with a better idea and story, but I think you get the hang of it.

hey guys and gals,

I currently play in a RoRL campaign, and having a great time. our DM's pain is our newish trip fighter.

during the hook mountain adventure, 3 of our 5 man party died fighting the stone giants at the end. we rescued one, and got him rezzed, the other 2 made new characters, one of which is the above mentioned fighter.

when we moved on to the attack on sandpoint and attacking the giants at their camps (in the valley with the dark tower, sorry, cant recall the name) the fighter basically knocks the giants down, everyone gets an AoO. if they stand, everyone gets an AoO. if they fight from the ground they are easier to hit.

basically we clean up giants pretty easily now. and that is where the trouble lies. our DM doesn't think its much of a challange, and that if he ups the encounters, the rest of us may pay for it. are perhaps the giants not prepared for this style of fighter, or are we doing something wrong ?

any advice is welcome. thanks.

hey everyone,

the group I am running this for (who love this AP so far, as do I)have just finnished the first part. now moving into RRR. I did some simulations and both of my attempts ended in with unrest running high enough to spiral out of control.

now I am using Jason's suggestions about what to give the players (IE. not giving them what the buildings do, but just their cost, etc), however, I knew what the buildings did for the kingdom, and both still failed.

anyone else having an issue?

I know my players will likely surprise me and rock this part, but I am a little scared for them. lol.

Hey everyone,

I reccently started kingmaker. I have a large party, 7 PCs. they usually take down most encounters pretty quickly, except for some fey it would seem.

here is my group, and the events that occured at a campsite several hexes south of oleg's.

1/2 Orc inquisitor
dwarf barbarian
elf monk
gnome summoner with eidolon.
human fighter
human rogue
elf druid with leopard companion.

it was late at night, 2nd watch, the rogue and druid were on watch. the druid hears the sound of small voices, but doesn't call an alarm imediately. the rogue is oblivious. all of a sudden 3 grigs fly up into the air, surrounding the mostly sleeping party.

the druid, being aware that something was up, spotted the grigs and fired an arrow at one, narrowly missing. the 1st grig casts entangle on the partyat which point the barbarian and monk are rendered entangled. the 2nd grig also casted entangle and got most of the rest of the party. the 3rd grig, not happy at being shot at, shoots the druid for a mighty 1 dmg.

the party, now awake, and mostly stuck, awakes and tried to ready or shoot their weapons at the grigs. none hit. the grigs, mearly wanting to have some fun at the biggin's expense, proceded to blind most of the party with pyrotechnics, then smokes them out with another pyrotechnics, then shuts out their campfire with a third. everytime something happens the grigs laugh hysterically (further frustrating the PCs).

the grigs, with there fun complete, begin to fly away as the summoner exits the smoke and spots the closest grig. he summons an eagle to fight the grig, and manages to all but kill it. 1 hp remaining, the grig moves 5ft and becomes invisible. unfortunately the summoned eagle still sensed the grig and managed one last hit, killing the poor little guy.

suffice it to say, the PCs were not too amused by the "fun", though some of the players were. but now I have 2 grigs that just lost their friend and may make more problems for the PCs in the future. I like the random encounters so far, and these little guys were the most fun by far to date. all though the stealthy troll that wandered into camp while the monk on watch was off relieving himself was also pretty amusing.
