"A campsite? Perhaps you should mention it to chief Sull, his son left a few weeks ago and I know he worries."

"No, where did you find it?"

"I wouldn't know, but you could always show it to the chief. He might recognize it and I'm sure he would be happy for any information."

"We will be meeting with chief Sull immediately." Lann says.

The boats and rafts easily support you and Lann and his companions row over with you. At the shore you are met be a contingent of guards and they escort you to the largest building atop the island’s low central peak. This is the home of chief Sull and you are let in after a short period after the chief speaks with Lann.

"We will row across and go see chief Sull."

"We have very informal customs, but we all pay heed to what chief Sull says. He will listen to your story and make a decision. Your aid to us should weigh heavily in your favor."

"Not long from here, the only real worry we had was that." Lann says as he indicates the dead plant creature.

"Yes, we have seen them before, although lately they have been more numerous. They are in allegiance with another tribe of our people that has fallen from the true path and now follows evil."

The next obstacle is actually a waste of time as I discovered with the other groups, so we will skip past it so that you can get going.

You easily overcome a chasm and continue on. You travel for about 40 minutes and Lann informs you of the obstacle they were worried about. You must traverse a cavern that is the lair of a "spore-cougher". He tells you that there is a good chance that it will be absent, but that it is a formidable opponent.

"It is a large creature that resembles an inverted umbrella with several stems of dark green or brown hanging beneath it. The inside of its cone-shaped top is inky black. It exudes fumes that cause hallucinations it then infects you with spores."

Anyone with Knowledge (nature or dungeoneering) can make a roll.

All three mongrelemn gasp in shock.

"No! The dragon was killed? She was the Worldwound's greatest defender. We must hurry back to Neathholm!"

"Demons attacked Kenabres? Then we definitely have to see chief Sull, he must be notified."

The first one that spoke with you seems more friendly now.

"I am Lann, this is Dyra (he indicates the woman), and the one you helped aid is Crel. We thank you."

Now that their companion is rescued they seem much more relaxed as well as friendly towards you. Lann continues to act as spokesman for them.

"You appear to have been trapped here by the same cataclysm. You are welcome to accompany us back to our village, Neathholm. Chief Sull will reward you for your aid. We are in your debt. However, the direct tunnel is one of those that collapsed. There is a second way, but it is not as safe."

"The only light will be whatever you bring with you. like most of these caverns, this one is in total darkness."

As you approach, you see that one of them is a hunchbacked woman, her face so warped by tumors that she’s incapable of intelligible speech. The second is a man that is a tall, thin creature with a face that melds the features of an attractive elven man, a goat, and a lizardfolk. His oversized fingers end in dull, spade-like talons. Somewhere in the rubble you here a third, somewhat anxious voice as well.

When you first speak, the two figures drop into defensive stances but are not aggressive. The man greets you in a raspy voice, speaking in strangely accented but quite eloquent Common.

“If your intentions are ill, we ask you to move on and leave us in peace. If they are good, then perhaps you can help. As you can see, misfortune has befallen us.”

"There is no way to avoid it. The passage through its cavern is the only way."

"All of your questions can be more easily answered by chief Sull. As to the dangers, the path we will take is a less traveled ome so there may be denizens of the underground more likely to be encountered. We also have to pass through a cavern that is a lair to a spore-cougher."

"We are sentries. The tower was our post. As you can see, this was a nexus of several tunnels, thus an ideal location for a guardpost. The recent earthquakes caused the collapse." Lann replies.

"Sir, are you ok?"

The trapped one nods.

"Yes, some minor scrapes and bruises. It could have been much worse."

Aleziella nods. "Thank you for letting us accompany you to your village. It seems like a good idea to head there first if the journey to the surface is fraught with perils as we say. I agree with Korak. That is the path it seems like we'll have to take. How many are there in your village? I must say, I had not expected people to live down here, but I guess there are some that prefer to stay below ground, like dwarves and your own kin for example. If you could tell us more about your village and the journey ahead of us while we venture to speak with your chief, that would be nice." Aleziella wonders if these are the people from her dream. If so, she should stay alert. Maybe they'll get attacked or run into some trap that represent the danger she felt. She keeps her rapier ready as they venture further, once again going together with Xantrius in the lead despite her injuries.

If he was injuried Aleziella will channel so she'll heal herself and Xatrius as well.

"Our village is of a couple hundred people. There are several other villages scattered throughout these tunnels as well. Chief Sull will be able to give you a better idea of the political situation. I am simply a guard."

Now that you see them, you do feel like your dream was about their race, if not these particular mongrelmen.

Korak stretches for a second. Do you by chance know of a slightly mad dwarf further in the caves?

"You must be speaking of Millorn. To us he is sometimes a nuisance, but to surfacers he is a very real threat. He is extremely paranoid of them and kills them on sight."

Nothing to loop rope over, no.

2d20 ⇒ (19, 5) = 24

I guess Kothar will help as well.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

With much effort, all six of you are able to move the final boulder, revealing a very small space with another person in it. Another mutated humanoid. He quickly crawls out and looks you over. The first one that spoke with you seems more friendly now.

The strange man's eyes shift over to Korak.

"Yes, our companion is trapped in the rubble. We must move this rock to free him."
