I would be interested in playing a character in a varisian sandbox campaign. That region is very near and dear to me and I would be HIGHLY motivated and HIGHLY dedicated to the playing of this campaign.
//TOP SECRET//
I Sven Von Jeggare have used my vast inheritance to continue the influence of Cheliax and strengthen my home city of Korvosa against Anti-Cheliax factions of Magnamar. In doing so I have managed to create multiple contacts over these last 4 years in the heart of Varisia. Some of these contacts are reputable and some are of less than mentionable status but effective servants. I have thought long and hard over these years to counter Magnamar and have found several factions with-in Magnamar which may be able to help. They are as follows.
All of this will result to what I hope is this. Magnamar will be in a state of chaos. The borders will not be safe. The countryside will be awash with bandits and other sorts. The high unemployment from sanctions against the city and crippled economy will result in riots and a general stat of decay of governance. Then it will be the long lost parent of Cheliax that sweeps in and saves the day. It will be Korvosian troops backed by a strong Cheliax navy that frees the people of Magnamar from the failure of Democracy and Unions. They will see that only through the rule of Nobles and private business can we prosper. With Magnamar brought to heel then Varisia will be ours. Thus giving the Cheliax Pathfinder faction open doors to new areas that are untouched and raw. This area could be the key to bringing about a new spark of Cheliax domination. We will be the rightful rulers of this world. For THE EMPIRE! For Cheliax! Long live the House of Thrune! Long Live Korvosa! Thank you your ever faithful servant,
Umm...Please forgive my presence in here. I do not mean to pry. However I do have a list of potential wrongs that is unbecoming of honor or justice.
My Paracountess, It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you today. If there is anything that I can to to counter your enemies I shall ever endure to help. I am forever thankful for your continued support of my beloved Korvosa. This help is very important to counter Magnamar. The ideals of democracy and blasted unions is the true threat to our nation.
Madam Paracountess Dralneen, I write this envoy with great joy. I have read that you seek greater influence in my birthplace of Korvosa. I am Sven Von Jeggare of the noble and honorable house of Jeggare. For the last 4 years I have been active in and around my place of birth. I am a Korvosian but in my blood flows the blood of Cheliax.
Ciretose I like your style. Even if your with Andoren faction. The main goal for a GM is that everyone is having fun. If one person is trying is doing something stupid I hold them accountable for their actions in the game. I dont try to do anything to them. They reap what they sow. Also open and clear conversation should be used with all players. If one person is making the game less enjoyable for others we talk to them. If he cant be helped then the player needs to look at himself. Oh and GM is god. However good gods listen to their flocks/minions.
I will try to answer this question on the grounds of morale ethics, and of law. As a soldier of over 10 years in the real world we can be faced with something like this on the battlefield. The first pass a soldier makes over the battlefield the soldier can kill and engage enemies. If the soldier returns to "finish off" enemy combatants you will be court martialed for war crimes and murder. Since the battle was already over. Now on the battle of ethics. Killing someone in their sleep is dishonorable. Case in point I remember a certain story book barbarian that woke up a dragon to fight it fairly. If this character was good then he would of lost his good alignment. He even beat one of his own friends up to KILL another helpless person. A knight must follow the rules of their codes. All knights must follow simple rules of honor and virtue. Also they must maintain a noble bearing. There is nothing noble in killing defenseless people. That act is evil period. Evil to defeat evil still corrupts. This player wants to say that he challenged his friend to a duel. Ok well that makes him lawful...the act of killing defenseless sentient people is evil. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THEY ARE EVIL. If you want to be overly good at this point you would of to detain them and give them to the proper authorities to judge them.
this is a very simply answer. Let him be lawful stupid and make him pay for his actions. He sees a guy on the street evil. Guy has not broken any crimes at all. Lawful stupid runs and smites him. Witnesses see the whole thing. Next thing you know lawful stupid is wanted for murder or assault/attempted murder. His/her god no longer listens to their prayers for being lawful STUPID. This teaches players to be more responsible for their actions. Or even lead them to the dark side. Force alignment change on someone who does actions like that. IF it looks like a duck, walks like a duck....its a Duck. As a DM I have to look for the overall enjoyment of the game for everyone. If one guy is making the game worse for others then pull him aside and talk about it. If the other players enjoy pulling lawful stupid aside and saving him from being kicked from the church then have at it.
As for TPK. A good GM should try to foreshadow a major battle or prepare some players with the reality of death. I do believe in personal and social responsibility. If players want to be foolish then they get what they get. Some rolls are just unlucky. I have implemented a hero point system. Where every game session you can reroll one roll. Or save it and they can stack. People doing above and beyond the call of duty in gaming are also awarded a hero point. This has helped with people just being unlucky on a roll that could end a character or stall the general advancement of the game. I try to lead a mature gaming session that holds players responsible. If those ideas helps anyone then that's great. The major focus is that everyone has fun. If you can do that then everyone wins.
I think that idea would be very interesting. As a person of strong Cheliaxian ties and supports the government system, I would like to see how slavery would work in the new system. As far as Necromancy I would think that they would probably put the same order/commands as the NPC class slaves that you could buy/create. It also talks about founding kingdoms and our own factions. So I wonder if guilds/clans are a factor or factions already in Pathfinder. I have not found any information out there so far about what the game will have. If anyone has anything please let me know. thanks. |
