So are we going to rest up a bit before heading into the fortress? Or charge in? Do we have the luxury of resting? Might need a bump from the DM to let us know our best option for proceeding...

"We will sorely miss your skills, but there is wisdom in your plan. I say go with, and travel with the blessings of the spirits."

He turns to his allies of opportunity. "I agree with Demitri. My energies are low, let us rest if we can find a sufficiently secluded spot. Also, reconnisance of this so called Serastis would be wise. If we could sit and watch for half a day to see what defenses these snake folk possess. A night assault might not be out of the question either."

Kunsua looks upon the fearful folk, and speaks to them in Mwangi.

"The exit to the cave did have a powerful guardian - but we slew it as we came down. Your way, spirits willing, should be safe now. We must leave you now to fight these serpent-men. For those of you without homes to return to, when you reach the surface you may call upon the aid of the Kallijae elves - tell them Kunsua the Druid sent you. Follow these marks, and when you reach the border, announce yourself thusly...", at which point he spends some time describing to the more calm looking the various rivers and other landmarks necessary to navigate to the borders of the elven lands.

Diplomacy 1d20 ⇒ 18

After this we will make preperations for travel.

Kunsua unlocks the Mwangi bonds.

"Zyngeth, your resourcefulness and resolution are admirable. I am sure many more would have perished without your assistance. You are a man of magic as well, I see. Perhaps your equipment is nearby? The serpent folk must have had some sort of quarters or base of operation."

As he works unlocking bonds he continues speaking. 'Perhaps we should retreat to another locale, in case our fight was noted. Once we are safe should attend to the wounds of these people, as well as our own, supply them as we can and send them onto the surface. However, does anyone have any ideas beyond that? I'm sure I could easily find a form that would allow me to scout this valley from the air or ceiling. Should we press on, or recover our strength?"

Kunsua searches the Naga for, among other things, a key for the Mwangis' fetters.

"Greetings Zyngeth, I am Kunsua. This..." he says, motioning to the raptor " is my friend Uwa. My village was also enslaved by these creatures as well, although in my absence. I have joined these humans to seek out my kin. I do not know much of these foul abominations, but their presence seems a blight upon the natural order".

He looks at the large cavern meditatively.

"I fear that fighting our way across the cavern to the fortress may be folly and suicide. Perhaps some of the drow or dwarves know secret back ways, or information regarding what the serpent-folk seek."

Kunsua takes a moment to see if any of his own tribe are among the enslaved, and to assess those who still live among the enslaved.

Kunsua drops a curative spell on Uwa and moves closer to the Naga (G29)

Cure Light 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Kunsua moves near his fallen friend (G26).

Uwa breathes heavily. (Stabilize, 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (13) - 5 = 8)

Uwa howls in pain and lashes out at the naga, albeit with less abandon as before.

Hit: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 + acid 1d6 ⇒ 1

Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 + acid 1d6 ⇒ 5

Although fearing it is already too late, Kunsua inches back again and casts a curative spell on Zafira

Cure Moderate Wounds 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (8, 6) + 6 = 20

Kunsua barks at Uwa - the small dinosaur swerves around and charges for the Naga.

Charge, -2 AC (23 currently, with barkskin), Power Attack (-2/4)

Damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 + acid 1d6 ⇒ 1

Kunsua skinwalks again, this time growing a wicked set of teeth and matching set of claws.

The remaining elemental glides through a pile of dirt to attack a serpent (->G22)

Elemental III

Hit: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33 with height and flank
Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 + acid 1d6 ⇒ 2

Kunsua steps back (-> G19) and casts a spell of warding Resist Energy (Electricity)

It doesn't feel over...

The remaining elemental plods to attack a serpent (->D3) #3, I believe .

Elemental III
Mirror Image (1 is target) 1d5 ⇒ 1
Hit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
I have, in fact, been forgetting earth mastery.

Uwa runs up to the hill (C23), slicing down at the same snake-man with his claws.

Mirror Image (1 is target) 1d5 ⇒ 1
Claw
Hit: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22 with height advantage
Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 + acid 1d6 ⇒ 2

Kunsua steps back (-> G19) and once again dons the skin of man. He draws his shield.

With single mindedness the elementals continue their assault. I and III step towards their foes (C25 and C27).

Elemental I
Mirror Image (1 is target) 1d4 ⇒ 3
Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Elemental III
Mirror Image (1 is target) 1d6 ⇒ 5
Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Uwa charges and pounces as the the first elemental steps out, attacking the lead serpent (C26)

Charge, -2 AC (23 currently, with barkskin), Power Attack (-2/4)

Bite +15 (1d4+5)
Hit: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

Damage: 1d6 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 10 + (6) = 18 + acid 1d6 ⇒ 6

Kunsua hisses out a spell...
Calm Animals (Will, DC 15)
Max hit dice affected: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
...then he scampers back (H20)

Is Balo's action or mine?

With great sprays of dirt the elementals each beat upon a separate snake-man.

Elemental I
Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Elemental II
Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Elemental III
Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Kunsua tries to ascertain if the the giant snake is a product of nature - or some sort of magical beast.

K(nature) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

If he identifies it as a natural beast, he will scamper towards it (->K20) - he intends to use magic to nullify the creature.

Uwa moves quicky to join in the fray - but he's not quite quick enough (->A20).

DM Feral, I saw an e-mail in my RSS feed from you saying "test", but it doesn't seem to show up here.

"I am sure you are very quiet, Balo. However, think I can handle the distraction." First Kunsua casts a few spells on Uwa, and then transforms into a tiny lizard, and scampers across the distance to the top of a mound of dirt.

Barkskin and Bulls Strength on Uwa

Disguise (as lizard) 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 20 = 31
Stealth 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Natural Spell. Summon monster III - 1d3 augmented small earth elementals emerging from the ground to act as a distraction - he will try to draw the guards away from both the party and slaves.

Summon: 1d3 ⇒ 3

With assiduous use of lesser restoration, I'm sure I can be back at full health: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 1) = 11... which is two days. Likewise with magical healing, and for the dinosaur as well.

Kunsua looks troubled. "I wonder if any of my tribe lies among those below" He meditates for a moment. "Would some sort of distraction be beneficial? I am sure I could sneak among them... a snake or a lizard would go unnoticed, I think. Once among them I could call something that might occupy them a few moments while you get closer."

I'm good... (which is to say, no extra cash :) )

"As I said before, it was a living fungus mound. Simply hungry, like many things in the world. Perhaps the inhabitants of these caves knew of it as a danger and left it in place for the unwary..." he says and then turns, looking at Demitri "...or the hasty"

Edit: 6 con damage, leaving 8 con currently

Kunsua uses magic to alleviate some of his injuries.

Restoration (lesser) 1d4 ⇒ 4
Cure Light 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Constitution 8
Hit Points 33

For some reason, I forgot to put Heal +9 and Profession (Herbalist) +8 on my character sheet. I do have them.

I also forgot to purchase a healer's kit... but that's my own darn fault.

Monitor Lizard:
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Kunsua moves to (B21) and calls for Uwa to come

I believe this will provoke

Too close to withdraw from the plant, the dinosaur will squat down on it's haunches and back away, trying to dodge blows

Total Defense, AC 26, Acrobatic tumble 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16, plenty of movement to get there; only applies if Kunsua doesn't draw all the monsters AoO's

Kunsua will then proceed to use stones to scrape spores from the dinosaurs hide.

Standard action, Heal check 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 vs poison DC to give Uwa a +4 on his fortitude saves.

Monitor Lizard:
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Uwa (@1hp! includes -2 for grappled, power attack, GMF)
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Damage 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 + Acid 1d6 ⇒ 1

Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 + Acid 1d6 ⇒ 5

Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 + Acid 1d6 ⇒ 5

Kunsua
Cure Moderate Wounds, E17 and touch Uwa
2d8 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
Don't think he threatens on account of grappling

Rahesh, you want to retcon that? Balo did exactly that (throw an alchemist fire) earlier in the round with no efffect...)

"It is a living fungus mound! Very tough, and its spores are deadly!

Step back to E18
Summon Monitor Lizard F13 (Standard Action)

Monitor Lizard:
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Uwa (Power attack, includes grapple penalties)

Damage 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9+acid 1d6 ⇒ 4

"Well, let us proceed with caution then"

"Hold, friend. Did you not see that spot just quiver when I hit it? I fear that it lies in wait... or perhaps will react when we approach" Kunsua gestures to the spot. "So approach with caution. Perhaps we can use a large stone or some other method to trick this entity. Thoughts?" He begins to look around for a larger stone to toss...

Kunsua motions a halt.

"Do you see that? He says, motioning to a set of tracks."Something is strange here; the tracks disappear and reappear a short distance later."

He picks up a rock, magically lights it, and tosses it towards the break in the tracks.

In case it matters, attack to hit a square: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Blame the boards if it comes up as a double post... ate my first post then regurgitated it back up.

Kunsua takes a moment to look around

Perception 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (3) + 23 = 26

"What strange and wonderful plants" he mutters to himself. He considers them for a moment.

K(dungeoneering) (common knowledge) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
K(nature) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Uwa and Kunsua proceed into the cave if all looks clear.

Move to I13 via H15

K(dungeoneering) (common knowledge) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Uwa and Kunsua proceed into the cave if all looks clear.

"I assure you these realms are as alien to me as they are to you, but if you wish I will lead the way." He turns to Zafira. "My companions name is Uwa"

He chants a magical blessing over Uwa and attaches an amulet of some sort of discolored, darkened metal around the small dinosaurs neck before using an orison to light his own shield and press into the darkness. He proceeds slowly, staring intently ahead.

Greater Magic Fang (6 hours), Amulet of Might Fists, move slowly (half speed searching for traps/hazards; i'll keep detect magic running as well.

"The story here is old; a month a go a dozen of these "snake skins" crawled through, and twice as many humans. There are no recent tracks. These creatures, whatever they are, would seem to have no love for the sun."

He arches an eye at Balo curiously, but takes his hand none-the-less.

"There are many tribes in the Mwangi. You may find some are friendlier then others"

He turns back to the cave entrance.

"I was just reading the news" Kunsua says, gesturing to the tracks.

Track, Survival 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27

He looks at the four assembled travelers. "And what may I call you, and from which lands do you hail?

Kunsua grimaces, lowering his hand but keeping his shield read. He barks a yipping command to the dinosaur.

Draconic:
"Down Uwa"

"The Yunnai Zenj tribe was murdered or ensalved, but not by the demon ape or any human. They were close to my heart, so I hunt their killers.

But the tracks... they are like none I have ever seen. Some are like humans, but they have claws and hard soles instead of boot or foot. Some are like the snake. You say you hunt snake skins and monsters? I know not of these snake skins but perhaps they are the murderers of the Yunnai. If so, perhaps we have a common foe."

Before you is a small Mwangi featured man with a graceful frame, violet-gray eyes and pointed ears that mark him as being partially of elven blood.

He is dressed in a primitive hide, it looks to have come from some sort of reptilian creature. Hanging from his hide armor by strings are bones, mostly teeth, from various creatures. The teeth are large and pointed, and have clearly come from something other then a mammal.

He springs to his feet and brings a wooden shield up in a defensive posture. He cries out:

"Behold, I am Kunsua of the Kallijae! I seek the Yunnai Zenj tribe. Pale ones, are you their destroyers!" His hands are held high, ready to summon mystical energies to his aid...

I was torn between the fire domain and the animal companion. I guess i've decided on raw hitpoints vs. versatility.

A few tweaks and backstory added.

Kunsua

Finished info for Obo's replacement.

...ahh backstory. Glad to see that I wasn't the only one who disappeared off the face of the planet for a weekend.

OK, I will try to get the creative juices flowing. Magic to come shortly.
