The slaves are chained and obviously very weak from abuse and malnourishment. You suspect that even if they were freed they would not be able to flee very fast for very long.

Will Save - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

The massive serpent's motions suddenly slow. It lowers it head and curls up in a restful position.

Zafira: Spellcraft - 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
Naga: Spellcraft - 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

A mask of fury covers the feminine features of the naga as Kunsua's magic ensorcles the snake. She screams something to the Serpentfolk in a hissing form of common, "Ignore the earthen creatures fools, destroy the lizard. He is a spellcaster in disguise".

Two of the serpentfolk attempt to nimbly slither away to move towards Kunsua.

Serpentfolk I - Acrobatics - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Serpentfolk I - Acrobatics - 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 - 2 = 22

Serpentfolk II - Acrobatics - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Serpentfolk II - Acrobatics - 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 2 = 23
Serpentfolk II - Acrobatics - 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 10 - 4 = 8
Serpentfolk II - Acrobatics - 1d20 + 10 - 6 ⇒ (17) + 10 - 6 = 21
Serpentfolk II - Acrobatics - 1d20 + 10 - 8 ⇒ (18) + 10 - 8 = 20

The first manages to avoid all attackers. The second is caught by Uwa and Balo.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
1d6 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 10 + (2) = 16
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Uwa's dripping claws fail to catch the agile snakeman but Balo's blade draws blood.

Unable to reach their prey quite yet they lash out at Balo with their fangs.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
1d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Fort Save - 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

One of the Serpentfolk manages to bite the Mwangi warrior but he pulls away before too much of the deadly venom gets into his system.

The third withdraws and attempts to corner the lizard.

Hissing her fury, the naga crawls forward bobbing her head rhythmically as she does. Whipping her tail forwards a bolt of deadly lightning shoots northward catching two elementals and Uwa.

7d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2, 2, 3, 5, 5) = 28

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9

Uwa nimbly flattens himself out as the crackling electricity shoots over his head. The elementals however, are not so quick and are instantly turned to blackened charred rocks that fall lifelessly back to the ground. The cowering slave in front of the serpentine monstrosity is similarly turned into a puddle of burning flesh.

Rahesh continues to take steady strides forward while leveling his weapon and firing off a shot at the snakeman threatening Uwa.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
1d12 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
1d6 ⇒ 4

The bullet strikes an image dispersing it harmlessly.

Zafira shouts out, "The giant snake is soothed by magic. Do not disturb it and it should remain not a threat".

Ignore the marker on the snakeman attacking Kunsua. It's not dead.

Balo launches out his attacks in hopes to take atleast one of them down and focuses on at E 23.

Main Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 & 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

if that hits damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

if at any time it dies or falls prone then I redirect the rest of the attacks to the adjacent.

Demitri, hearing that that the giant snake is no longer a threat, moves to help Balo.

Double Move to G20.

The remaining elemental plods to attack a serpent (->D3) #3, I believe .

Uwa runs up to the hill (C23), slicing down at the same snake-man with his claws.

Kunsua steps back (-> G19) and once again dons the skin of man. He draws his shield.

Balo's deft slashes cut one of the serpentfolk down and between Uwa's dripping claws and the elemental's rocky fists another crumples to the ground, its magical defense doing little to protect it.

Following the orders of the naga, the remaining serpentfolk ignores Demitri in favor of the once again human, Kunsua.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 - Minimum 1
Fort Save - 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

The bite gets past the druid's defenses but barely breaks the skin and the poison fails to slow him down.

The naga hisses at her companion's continued condition and resolves to fix the problem. Slithering around the massive serpent, she begins a rhythmic dance again this time conjuring a bolt of lightning straight across the nearly slumbering beast's back and into Kunsua and Demitri.

7d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 1, 3, 1, 4) = 15

Kunsua 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 - Fail
Demitri 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 - Pass
Giant Snake 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 - Pass

The bolt of electricity flies across the battlefield hitting Kunsua dead-on. The giant serpent reacts quickly, snapping out of its stupor and avoiding most of the damage. Demitri, on the other hand, reacts slowly but Zafira's magical warding flickers at the last moment and deflects some of the lightning.

The slave caught in the deadly melee struggles to escape but his chains slow him down. The bolt of lightning fries him to a crisp.

The Calm Animals effect is ended.

Rahesh takes a step forward and fires off two more quick shots at the, once again, deadly giant snake.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
1d12 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
1d12 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Both shots connect opening massive wounds in the serpent's flesh.

Zafira runs forward and raises her hands as if readying an arcane gesture, "I will do what I can to impede her magic!

Ready to counterspell.

The remaining Serpentfolk blinks in disbelief as its illusions fail to protect it from the combined elemental-lizard assault.

Confidant that now is the time to strike Balo springs into motion and moves in to attack the remaining Serpentfolk.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Fortunately, for the snakeman its magic resumes functioning and Balo's blade slides harmlessly through an image.

Emboldened, it resumes its attack on the bothersome druid.

The magical electricity washes over the party. The elemental is incinerated and Demitri's warding shatters into tiny specs of stardust. Kunsua's spell protects him from some of the damage and Balo evades the worst of it.

Rahesh sees Zafira in peril but also notices that the snakewoman's deadly magic is wrecking havoc on the party. With a sigh he levels his weapon and calls out before taking a shot at the naga, "Help Zafira. That spellcaster must be stopped!"

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

You see signs of insanity in Zyngeth's eyes, perhaps he has been captive too long.

The elf's electrified touch connects despite the naga's incredible speed. The spell leaves the naga singed and bloodied, on the last threads of her strength. Fear begins to creep into the creature's inhuman eyes.

It looks like the forums ate Demitri's post.

Demitri's ferocious charge surprises the weakened naga. She blinks in disbelief as the heavy weapon hits her between the eyes, splitting her skull and spraying her ichor-like blood across the cavern floor.

Now would be a good time for new guy introductions.

Seeing that the snake woman is dead, Demitri wipes her blood off Truth and stows it. He walks over to Zafira first. "You okay?" He asks bluntly before turning towards the brave/crazy elf. "You really helped us out there. Good job and thanks. Name's Demitri."

Male Half-Elf Cleric/3 - Wizard(Earth Elementalist)/3

Sorry, for some reason I did not realize that the naga was dead and it was introductions time.

With smoke still wafting from his fingertips, Zyngeth looks from face to face of the people who killed the naga.

I am Zyngeth. I had just returned to the village of my father when this monster. I kick the naga. And her cronies attack and captured or killed many people in the village.

I tried to fight, but was knocked unconscious before I was able to do anything.

Looking around the chamber. Where are we? And who are you all who have bravely rescued me and my friends? I do not know how to repay you as this beast took all my equipment while I was unconscious.

Demitri seeing everyone's inability to introduce themselves, decides to do it for them. "This is Balo with the double-blade. The one with the lizard is Kunsua. The gunman is Rahesh. And finally the pretty young woman over there is Zafira. We were sent here to explore the fortress that's around here somewhere."

Zafira nods a greeting to the elf, "You have our gratitude. The Serpentfolk are fearsome and any help is welcome".

"Are there more of those creatures nearby?", she says indicating the serpentfolk and the naga.

Zyngeth Fleetfoot:
Yes, lots.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/3 - Wizard(Earth Elementalist)/3

DM Feral:

Is that spoiler above my knowledge that there are a lot of serpentfolk around or did I miss something?

Zyngeth Fleetfoot:
Yup. After you were captured and dragged down here you were told to dig. No one knows what you were searching for but whenever any of you found anything significant (usually a discarded drow weapon) the naga would come over, hiss something in frustration, and then take the find away. During this time you saw many other creatures pass through the area - more serpentfolk, nagas, and other monstrosities you could not identify.

The only creatures you saw consistently were the ones that the party just killed.

"Greetings Zyngeth, I am Kunsua. This..." he says, motioning to the raptor " is my friend Uwa. My village was also enslaved by these creatures as well, although in my absence. I have joined these humans to seek out my kin. I do not know much of these foul abominations, but their presence seems a blight upon the natural order".

He looks at the large cavern meditatively.

"I fear that fighting our way across the cavern to the fortress may be folly and suicide. Perhaps some of the drow or dwarves know secret back ways, or information regarding what the serpent-folk seek."

Kunsua takes a moment to see if any of his own tribe are among the enslaved, and to assess those who still live among the enslaved.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/3 - Wizard(Earth Elementalist)/3

Good to meet you Kunsua. I have no idea how long I have been here, could be only days, perhaps weeks. It is hard to tell down here and I don't even want to say how many slaves have been whipped and worked to death in the time I have been here. I managed to create a simple holy symbol since my capture. I show them the butterfly made of small stones, vegetation and roots. With it I was able to keep myself and some of the others alive, although without hope, perhaps this was not a benefit.

Since I have been here, I have seen numerous serpentfolk as well as a number of these vile nagas. They have had us searching for something, but I do not know what. Usually whenever we found anything it was drow or dwarven weapons, but they were immediately confiscated by that dead snake b*tch.

The remaining slaves are all Mwangi men and women.

They beg each of you to free them from their bonds.

Kunsua searches the Naga for, among other things, a key for the Mwangis' fetters.

Not wearing much in the way of clothing, there is little hidden on the naga's person. Hanging from a cord around her 'neck' is a key which you quickly determine undoes the locks on the prisoner's chains.

Kunsua unlocks the Mwangi bonds.

"Zyngeth, your resourcefulness and resolution are admirable. I am sure many more would have perished without your assistance. You are a man of magic as well, I see. Perhaps your equipment is nearby? The serpent folk must have had some sort of quarters or base of operation."

As he works unlocking bonds he continues speaking. 'Perhaps we should retreat to another locale, in case our fight was noted. Once we are safe should attend to the wounds of these people, as well as our own, supply them as we can and send them onto the surface. However, does anyone have any ideas beyond that? I'm sure I could easily find a form that would allow me to scout this valley from the air or ceiling. Should we press on, or recover our strength?"
