Male Vesk Solarian 2

That was how I was GMing it too and it seems to work out okay.

Duanimon, that FAQ is stupid (note that I'm not saying you are for pointing it out, just that it's a silly rule to begin with). It basically says that now the rule is you don't apply item bonuses to your starship action rolls. They should just get rid of the rule entirely, cause it feels weird and corner-caseish.

Ehron, if you have a copy of that module, there are some handouts for each of the roles that are pretty handy (even if the DCs on the checks are not correct now).

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i looks to the captain's chain for the answer to that question, saying "I would prefer to fire a warning shot, but that is just me. Make a decision Garland, and I will abide by it."

Kov'i then turns and begins aiming the guns in the direction of the ship.

I will either attack them or fire a warning shot depending on what the man in the captain's chair says. Here's my gunnery check either way:

Attack Roll for Coilgun: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage Roll: 4d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 2) = 7

Okay, Here's the quick breakdown on starship combat:

*There are three phases in starship combat: Engineering, Helm, and Gunnery. These three phases are conducted in order by all parties of the combat, and once all sides have finished with the phase, the combat advances to the next phase.

*The PCs each take a role, which has a key skill and a phase of combat in which they act. The roles (with their key skill and phase) are:

1) Captain (Any Phase; Any of the other skills or diplomacy; limit One)
2) Pilot (Helm Phase; Piloting; limit one)
3) Engineer (Engineering Phase; Engineering)
4) Science Officer (Helm Phase; Computers)
5) Gunner (Gunnery Phase; BAB or Piloting)

The Captain can act in any phase, because their actions are primarily support based (they can encourage someone who is going to act, primarily through using aid another).

You can change your roll before the engineering phase, but no one can take the pilot or captain's chair unless it's empty.

The actions for each role start on page 322 of the rulebook. Keep in mind that some of them require minimum ranks in the key skill for that role (or diplomacy, in the case of the captain).

A typical round goes something like this:
The engineer boosts a system or repairs shields; The science officer scans, redistributes shields, or improves gunnery; the pilots roll opposed piloting initiative checks (each round, as it becomes important) then the slow ship moves first, allowing the ship with the better initiative to attempt to position themselves in such a way that it puts their biggest guns where in a place to fire on the enemy; finally, the gunners fire and the process begins over again.

That's the nickel tour. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I believe we determined that Kov'i is definitely a gunner.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i is a gunner. Do we have the stats for our ship? Also, would you like me to give you a primer on starship combat? It works differently than regular combat.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i moves and sits at the gunner's console.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Agreed, although I have the sneaking suspicion that both groups are hiding something from us."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

After the group as returned to their ship, Kov'i will say "It seems that the Collective has a supreme dislike of Astral Collections that is not necessarily returned, not that I can't understand why, mind you. This is going to be a difficult negotiation, which I'm happy to say we will not have to do."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Agreed. Thank you for your time and we'll hopefully have our findings shortly." Kov'i stands and offers Scera his arm, having noted her reaction earlier.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"I don't know if anyone has asked this yet, and I forgot to ask the representative of Astral Extractions, but wouldn't a compromise be to share the things that were discovered on the asteroid?"

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i will raise his glass of non-alcoholic beverage and cheers away.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Yes, as Ehron can attest, most ships are not made for people of our height."

For the most part, Kov'i manages to duck under bulkheads, but there is one when rounding a corner he doesn't see in time and he runs smack into it. He doesn't swear, but he does grumble something in his native language.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Greetings Captain. We will be headed in your direction shortly to hear your side of the story. As my friend says, we have our own transport and so we will not need that from you, though many thanks for the offer."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Cultures: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

"Your words sound completely reasonable, Ms. Joss, but we need to investigate both sides and do our best to help our employer render a fair decision."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i declines the drink as well, saying "My faith does not allow me to consume alcohol."

"You should also know that we are going to be speaking to a representative from the collective as well, just to keep things above-board; I mention this so that we can avoid even the hint of impropriety."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"As do I." Once the group had directions, Kov'i would recommend that they head out and get a feel for the ship before the meeting.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"If would be our pleasure to speak with you, Ms. Joss. Please give us directions to your headquarters and a time that you wish to meet and we will see you there."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"If we are going to speak to them now, we should probably get the recording droid, as I believe we mentioned previously."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i will follow the rest of the group out.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"We should hear what they have to say, but our small robotic friend should record all such offers. That way we should keep ourselves clear of any allegations of partiality."

"Peace is important. We should do our best to get it right."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Unless there is anything you think we should know to help us succeed in our mission, I believe we should get started." Kov'i stands and gives him a moment to respond, then leaves if there is nothing forthcoming.

That's my default 'I know you have more information to give me, but I'm not sure what else to ask' question =)

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Very well. Given your word and position, I have no problem with retrieving the package."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"What does the package you are waiting for contain? I have little desire to break laws to bring it to you."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"It's not a terrible job."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i is all levelled up as well.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Some gang members showed up while Ehron was 'fixing' a taxi to allow us to get to you all and demanded Zetara go with them. Against my better judgement, she agreed, and after a few minutes we tracked her back to the club they were holding her in, dressed up as the help, and then dealt with the problem."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

It does have a 5' step, but it takes a move action to do. It's called a guarded step.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i will move up and try to get Ferani's attention by clawing his eyes out.

Unarmed Strike Attack Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage Roll: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Crit Damage if Appropriate: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Male Vesk Solarian 2

I'm back now guys.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

I am posting this to all my games (apologies if you see this multiple times):

I am going to be out of town for an work conference that I was asked to go on last minute. I will be out of town through Friday (the 27th). There will be internet a the hotel, but the schedule will be really hectic and I won't have a lot of time to post.

Please bot me if I am in your game, and if you are in my game, please note that I will probably not be making an update until Saturday at the earliest.

Apologies and thank you for your patience.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"Fine then." as Kov'i began his initiative, the light level in the nearby area seemed to raise slightly; not enough to be harsh, but it definitely made things easier to see. As this was going on, a mote of darkness rose out of one of his hip pouches and entered his armor, diffusing it into darkness of the blackest night.

finally armored thusly, Kov'i will reach out and grab one of the knives from Rio. Which will provoke.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

We'll be fine. Time to be heroes!

Male Vesk Solarian 2

As Lulu and Rio draw on Kov'i, he just started laughing and said"Aren't you brave."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

In the den of iniquity:

Kov'i chuckles and says "You sure you got all of them? I'd hate to think you left little ole me armed inside your club."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"So, you want to ask a Vesk to disarm? Sure, come over here and take my weapons." says Kov'i to the person collecting them, in an attempt to help offer distraction to Ehron's movements.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

I was asking the group to see if any of them knew, so we had an idea of how long they had been questioning Zetara.

Everyone but the Wonder Twins and Zetara:

Kov'i actually seems convincing in his "threatening Vesk" persona, and as they enter into the club, he will give it the once over, specifically looking for guards or thugs.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"How long from here would it take to get to this place we're going?"

Male Vesk Solarian 2

As part of his disguise, Kov'i will remove his holy symbol and deactivate his armor, then walk around with his Doshko out and a look of "mess with me and you get this" on his face, in an attempt to clear the way for the group.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"It would be good to find out where she has been taken to, but my handsome face and dulcet tones stand out in a crowd, so I will likely be of little help in intrigue."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i sighs as Zetara leaves with them. the light that had been gathering around him dims back to normal. His armor, however, continues to glow, and he leans his Doshko over one shoulder like a human might do with a baseball bat.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i steps forward as Zetara offers to go with them and says "Zetara, I don't want you to go with them. They plan violence against you, and you are my friend."

Kov'i's mote flies out of his belt pouch and merges into his armor. He then draws his new weapon and hefts it menacingly.

Also going into Photon mode.

Starfinder GM wrote:
V'althorais has not agreed to assist the starfinders or even knows you are starfinders. He is just a humanoid that finds a female Lashunta very attractive (which is very much in the characteristic of female Lashuntas). He might have been willing to help had anyone asked.

Sorry, I meant that he showed up right after our group agreed to work with the starfinders.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"I am glad you made a friend." is all Kov'i says on the subject as he smiles politely. "We should probably rejoin the others."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Ya, poor Kov'i is pretty lost in terms of the investigation. He just doesn't trust the person who showed up and invited one of our group members on a date almost Immediately after we finished with a gunfight and agreed to assist the Starfinders.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

"I do not like people going off on their own, but you have a valid point. Stay in contact at all times and if you need help, ask for it. We'll find a way to get to you."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Scera:

I'm worried about this situation. He appeared almost as soon as we landed, and targeted you. There are several groups that approach young women, talk to them, then get them alone and kidnap them. I have no doubts that you are capable, but I do not wish for you to be taken, either. So I remain, and will do so until we have rejoined the group.

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i will continue to hide and watch out for Scera.

Ninja-like Stealth!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i will nod and say "I'll catch up once I know Scera is safe."

Male Vesk Solarian 2

Kov'i was torn. Clearly, he wanted to help his friends, but they were each going separate ways, and he was unsure what to do. He had also lost the rude young man in the crowd. Unsure of what to do, Kov'i returned to his surveillance of Scera, making sure she was safe.
