I have an Aasimar Knife Master 1/Greensting Slayer 2 (Magus). The Knife Master uses d8s for sneak attacks. The Greensting Slayer gets d6 sneak attacks. My question is: does being a Knife Master mean that the Greensting Slayer's sneak attack is also d8? I'm headed for Rogue 1/Magus 3/Arcane Trickster 10, so I'll only get one sneak attack from the Magus. Thus if the answer is no, I'll only be losing an average of one point of damage per sneak attack. thanks, Kodger
In PFS, the Cavalier replaces Expert Trainer with Skill Focus (Handle Animal). In Animal Archive, the Cavalier archetype Huntmaster replaces Expert Trainer with Animal Trainer (dogs and birds only). Should a PFS Huntmaster replace Animal Trainer with Skill Focus (Handle Animal)? Or does the lack of a specific mention in additional resources mean that the Huntmaster can keep Animal Trainer? It may well be that Animal Trainer is a weaker/more limited class feature than Expert Trainer. I would like to hear from anyone who has encountered this problem.
No, this is not a thread about using SLAs to more quickly become Eldritch Knights or Mystic Theurges. Instead I want to put some variety into taking PrCs, when meeting the requirements. Eldritch Knight: you can meet the martial arms requirement by taking a Sohei Monk. I’m not sure I would do it but it might catch someone’s fancy. Living Monolith: if you want to be a Half-Orc, take the alternate racial trait, Shaman’s Apprentice, to get the Endurance feat you need. I have a PFS character that is taking this route. Aldori Sword Lord: a Half-Elf can take the needed Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Ancestral Arms) in place of adaptability racial trait, which I’m pretty sure everybody knows. However, I suggest taking two levels of Cavalier. The Cockatrice Order grants the required Dazzling Display as a bonus feat. Since I prefer full-BAB classes, these are the examples I have stumbled upon. I hope people will add others to this thread. Perhaps it will become useful enough to be listed on the Class Guides thread. thanks, Kodger
I think PFS works well and I’m quite happy with it ending at level 12. However, characters do not have capstone abilities, the way they would if they went to level 20. A similar sense of completion might be achieved if you could find the right prestige class. However, there are only 10 prestige classes that can be completed by level 12. The Additional Resources lists five of them as available for PFS: Balanced Scale of Abadar, Halfling Opportunist, Inheritor’s Crusader, Pathfinder Savant and Steel Falcon. The unavailable five are: Brightness Seeker, Chevalier, Justicar, Pain Taster and Sphere Walker. I suspect many, if not all, are disallowed because they were meant for 3.5 games. There is a new book on prestige classes due soon. A quick peek at the first announcement of the book gave me the impression that these would be your usual 10-level classes. Would Paizo ever be inclined to do more “short” Prestige Classes? I appreciate that making such classes takes as much thought and effort as making regular PRCs. Conversely, future Archetypes could aim for pseudo-capstones at levels 10 or 11. For example, my in-progress Cad 1 Guide 11 will get Inspired Moment at level 12. To me, that has the feel of a capstone. I apologize in advance for any errors, omissions or misapprehensions. thanks, Kodger |
