Hey all, I've been around, but I'm in the final week of a contract, and might continue to be sporadic for the remainder of the week. I'll be back to normal posting by the weekend, and may actually be able to post normally during the remainder of the week, but no guarantees so I figured I'd give you all the heads-up.
Nah, no need for anything in particular - whatever helps out the party.
Sutandir, did you catch the 35 gp I attempted to throw you IC last week?
"If some thug has been accosting women in town, we should put a stop to it. I would gladly stand at your side against such a brute, Ruhk." Kervos stops and listens to Vaashti as he watches the smoke pour from the chimney. "If it's not Shartol's kin in there, we may be in for an interesting discussion with some interlopers."
Kervos spends the next couple days tending to Elze, only leaving her side once he is certain that she is successfully on the mend and she has regained enough strength to shoo him away. After wandering around for the better part of a day, Kervos grows increasingly uncomfortable with the level of attention aimed towards his companions and himself. By the time he connects with Sutandir, he's more than happy to head out and investigate the Cairn. After giving Sutandir 35 gold to help cover the costs of any potion preparation he has engaged in, Kervos will spend the remaining time in town seeking out a set of chainmail armor to bolster his admittedly weak defenses - if he finds one suitable for someone of his size, he will also sell his current armor for whatever he can get.
Kervos wouldn't be interested in any of the items found so far.
Kervos gives both Laurel and Sutandir a quick nod of thanks, then immediately heads out of the shop and back to the inn. Finding Elze with due haste, he stirs her from her slumber only long enough to help her drink the contents of the vial. As soon as she has done so and drifts back to sleep, Kervos sits on the edge of the bed and watches her, waiting for a sign that her recovery has begun. I will not leave your side again until you are well, little one.
"I appreciate the warning, my friend, and I understand being first is risky. But I have faith in your skills, and in Miss Laurel's determination to help these people." Kervos looks over his shoulder at the waiting populace, then back to Sutandir before continuing in a solemn tone.
Upon waking in the morning, Kervos immediately heads to Laurel's shop. Excusing his way past the line of people at the door, yet not pausing to hear their reply, he makes his way over to Sutandir and Laurel. Keeping a quiet voice to avoid aggravating others, he poses his plea. "Miss Laurel, Sutandir. I would ask for a sample of the cure, that I may give it to my sister. I am willing to pay whatever is necessary for the time you have spent crafting this, but I need to see her treated as soon as possible." Kervos fidgets uncomfortably after making the request as he looks back at the long line of affected that also need treatment. "I understand that there are many who require aid, but I hope you also understand how important her well-being is to me."
Alright, character sheet fully updated. Regarding downtime, I'm all for it. I think there are some interesting options for us to look into if we have do happen to have the free time.
Seamus, quick question for you as I finalize the numbers on this - would you be of the mindset that Monster Lore (Inquisitor ability) and Knowledgeable Guardian (Guardian path ability) stack?
Thought about it some, and will be locking in the following: Guardian, Tier 1
Need to get back to work, but I'll update the character sheet with the above by tomorrow night.

I'll think on this a little further, and lock in everything later this evening (although if anyone has any feedback in the meantime, I'm all ears).
"I have never been tied to one location in such a fashion. I have no qualms about protecting the people of Falcon's Hollow, but many seasons have passed since I called a place home." Kervos looks around at his companions, then shrugs. "We're already well on our way to bringing the cure back; if there's another threat beyond the plague, I feel comfortable meeting it headfirst with the rest of you. Even if Sutandir's special powers are unhelpful," he concludes with a small grin, pushing himself to his feet.
There are a couple different ways Kervos could reasonably go. I'll hold off a hair to see how everyone else shakes out - if there's a hole Kervos can reasonably fill, I'll take that approach.
Realizing that Ruhk has a point, Kervos nods.
His apology made, Kervos begins a quick sweep of their current location.
Kervos is also a Milani worshipper.
"I agree," Kervos replied as he stared at Greypelt's corpse. "that if these mushrooms are enough we should return with due haste. Sick people are counting on us to be swift in our return. As for anything else this...wolf...may have been guarding, I don't rightly care. Speed is of the essence at this point." Kervos rested his axe on his shoulder, looking up at the rest of the party once he had finished speaking.
Heeding Vaashti's words, Kervos silently steps over the fallen creature and brings his greataxe down in a brusque motion onto the wolf's skull. Heaving the greataxe back up to his shoulder, he meets Vaashti's eyes and gives her a nod.
Kervos hears Rakarech calling for him to move so he steps to the side to allow the other half-orc access to Vaashti. Yelling at the same time in a moment of frustration, he once more swings his greataxe around at the worg's head.
Kervos sees Sutandir falling and hurriedly tries to retaliate, heaving his greataxe around for a quick swing at the worg.
After taking pause for a moment much the same as Shartol, Kervos gathers himself and pipes up. "Greetings, Greypelt, my name is Kervos. My friends and I are here in search of mushrooms necessary for the healing of friends and family that have fallen ill. We look only to gather these supplies and move on, and mean you no harm."
Though in a dark mood, Kervos is willing to engage Sutandir and Shartol in discussion about the plague. "Better than that, Sutandir, this medicine will have to work. The very fact that we are encountering trials to accomplish getting it all together should show we're on the right track. I would be more concerned were we having too easy a time." He pauses, thinking on the time they are spending hunting down the ingredients and Shartol's other questions. "We will get this back in time to matter, Shartol. My sister and others are depending on us, and I will not fail them. The Everbloom has been blessing us thus far on our journey - we will succeed as long as we stay determined." His piece said, Kervos turns away and curls up for the night until it's his turn for guard duty.
Seeing the battle ended, Kervos turns to look at Vaasthi.
Seeing Vaashti move past, Kervos turns to call for Sutandir's fire as Ruhk rushes in to fill her place. Shrugging as much as he is able at Sutandir, he limps out of the way to put a wall between himself and the skeletons. Satisfied that at the very least he's protected for the moment, he calls out to Milani in the hopes that she can both bolster Ruhk's defenses further and help to mend Kervos' own injuries. As soon as he has completed his quick prayers, he draws his morningstar in preparation to rejoin the battle.
Kervos groans, then remembers where he is and glances around quickly to get his bearings. Realizing he needs to get back on his feet, Kervos tries to maintain safety against the skeleton nearby while pushing himself back up. Still punch drunk, he tries to balance himself and prepare to continue fighting.
Getting battered from multiple angles, Kervos howled out in pain as he staggered back, slumping against the wall as Rakarech moved in to protect him. His realization that he had made a poor decision was drowned out by the darkness seeping in from the edges of his vision. After a moment's hesitation, the thought of his sister still needing his help forced a snarl out of his throat that forced him back towards his feet as he shuffled towards the exit from the room. His anger and refusal to leave his sister abandoned momentarily cleared Kervos' sight, and he focused on the nearest skeleton that posed a threat to his own, and therefore Elze's, safety. Roaring loudly with new-found invigoration, Kervos swung his greataxe up over his head and then brought it down at the offending skeleton. Immediately he felt his strength leech out and he looked to his comrades in shock before collapsing to the floor.
Hearing the noise ahead and seeing Sutandir throw a piece of rubble, Kervos moves forward past Rakarech into the hidden room. Taking stock of the creatures before him, Kervos hefts his greataxe and prepares for any that come close.
Kervos takes note of the cobwebs and makes his way throughout the room quickly, looking to see if there has been anything recently disturbed or if anything else of value to their current goals exists within.
"I do use a bow, but not particularly well. We would benefit more from selling them then me using them, unless someone else is skilled in archery."
Recognizing his limitations, Kervos waits to see how Rakarech fares with the teeming mass of bats before being willing to leave his post. "Ruhk, with any luck, they'll remain content where they are. If not and we are overrun, I promise to make sure you have a fine burial." Kervos flashes a wide grin at Ruhk before going back to intently watching Rakarech's progress.
Kervos takes up a spot opposite Rakarech from the door, gripping his axe tightly. Once settled, he gives a slight nod to Rakarech to open the door.
Kervos stands in silence for a moment, calmly soaking in the darkness and quiet around him. Content in his search, he makes his way back to the party. "The hallway comes to a dead end a ways around the corner, and there look to be a few rooms we can examine. Beyond that, this place is more quiet than anything I've experienced in a long time. No sounds of people, or even little critters that may have taken the place over. I would remain wary on the chance there is something unnatural here, but do not believe we will be in any immediate danger further examining this place."
Moving up from the rear as he re-configures his pack to hold the new length of rope, Kervos takes a look down the hallway. "I can head down the hallway and check things out in advance, no need for light. If anything's waiting within, being able to find it before we draw attention to ourselves with a light source may prove useful." Kervos looks to the rest of the party for any protest as he slings his pack back over his shoulders and re-adjusts his grip on his greataxe.
Kervos is already at medium encumbrance, so he can carry just under 20 pounds of other gear before going to heavy. If that helps everyone else stay at light encumbrance, I'm OK with that.
Kervos leans his axe against the doorway, probing the bite wound with the fingers of his right hand momentarily. Grimacing slightly, he produces his fingers in front of Vaashti, displaying some of the spider's fluids. "It tried to inject me with something, but I feel fine. If that changes, I will indeed let you know." Shaking most of the toxic-looking fluid free from his hand, Kervos once more picks up his greataxe, heaving it to a resting place on his left shoulder. He then gives a nod to Rakarech, thanking his companion in Orcish, before clapping Shartol on the back with his right hand. "That was quite the quick thinking, Shartol. Without you blinding that beast so, I don't believe I would have been able to injure it at all."
Kervos flashes a feral smile at Ruhk before dashing forward, swinging out his greataxe to build momentum as he does so. Immediately as he comes through the doorway he uses that momentum to heave his weapon around at the spider in a forceful, if rather inelegant, attack.
Kervos drops to a knee next to the body, trying to access the rotting backpack without disturbing the corpse much. He quickly rifles through the pack, looking to find anything of note that could be helpful in aiding their search. "I'll be just a moment here, then I'll be right behind you all," he calls over his shoulder before resuming his focus on the task at hand.
Heading over to the well, Kervos watches Sutandir as he makes his preparations. After noting what is presumably cursing in other languages, Kervos smirks to himself and then leans over to see if he can see the bottom of the well on his own. As he does so, he grabs hold of the dangling rope and pulls on it, testing to see if something is attached at the other end.
Kervos slowly walks over to Rakarech, still cautiously looking around at their surroundings. Seeing the unusual tracks Rakarech has called attention to, he drops down into a crouch and studies them for a few moments to see if there's anything not natural about them.
Angry at himself for taking such a poor swing and realizing he has done nothing to distract the wolf trying to attack Ruhk, Kervos grits his teeth and twirls his axe up over his head, swinging it down at the wolf's flank.
Kervos begins shifting around to start preparing to move into a flanking position on the wolf that has bitten Ruhk, swinging his greataxe at it from the side as he does so, rather poorly.
Kervos draws his axe, stepping forward alongside Ruhk and Rakarech and waiting to see how the wolves react to Sutandir's fire.
Kervos kept one hand on the haft of his axe, staying back with the others while Rakarech did some investigation.
As he spoke, Kervos took care to keep a look out for Rakarech, a little more wary now that the group had been ambushed a couple times while seeking to accomplish their goal.
Staying low in a crouch, Kervos looks over at Sutandir, still keeping his voice low.
Without hesitation, Kervos draws his bow and then begins hurriedly trying to wake his companions, moving both in the interest of speed and in wishing to keep them quiet as they wake so as not to hasten the wyvern's approach.
"There are also salts over here for summoning a familiar." Kervos turned around from his searching, surveying the hut once more. "Look at the way the place was left. If the cauldron hadn't been here, we would be firmly convinced this place had been abandoned long ago. The front door itself was rotted. Personally, I don't think she will be returning, although I am curious as to what could have happened to her. In the meantime, I have no qualms about leaving a note in case of her return, but would advise if there's anything anyone can use we do so."
Securing his axe, Kervos quickly joins in the search for anything that the group can use.
As Sutandir gets clear of the cauldron, Kervos winds up and swings one more wild blow at the cauldron in time with Rakarech before backing up out of the way at Sutandir's behest.
