Scarab Sages 4/5 5/5 **

I'll do this for another one of my characters
1. Why are you a Pathfinder?
"Oh my. Well, I believe there used to be a type of magic in Golarion called 'candymancy.' Where 'candymancers' infused sweets with magic. I found mention of them in the temple where I grew up in, though I might have been misinterpreting the text. Anyway, being a pathfinder gives me a chance to search the world's lore for hints of these 'Candymancers.' Only found one clue, and that was from a demon, so he was probably lying."

2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture?
"Come again? Wha-What is an E-arth?". (((Sadly, yes. Keeks (spelled Keks) is the German word for Biscuit. Biscuit Krueger is a HunterxHunter character.)))

3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you?
"I was an orphan left on the doorstep of a monastery on the edge of Chu Ye. As a monastery, the Oni left us alone so long as we gave them some of our painstakingly crafted candies once a year. The monastery is where I got my official training and where I learned about candymancers. Also, it's where I got my very low tollerance for bullies and extraplanar meanies like Oni and demons."

4. What do you look like? What are your wearing? How does this vary when you’re stalking through forests, sewers, deserts or in glittering cities?
(((Keeks is a short Oread with dark skin that seems to have flakes of silica in it that shimmer when the sun catches them just so. She has a few rocky outcropings surrounding her eyes. Most striking of all, though, is her normal, 'human' blonde hair done up in a ponytail. She is wearing a sensable though cute pink dress.)))

5. What do you love? (Treasure and experience doesn’t count)
"Well, I guess it's pretty obvious I'm into candy. I have my own stand in the grand lodge. Other than that? I love studying new and facinating types of magic-not just candymancer stuff. Also big into using that knowledge to help people out, or just put a smile on their faces.

6. What do you hate? (Unclear and irritating darkness level rules don’t count)
"Oh gee, I try not to HATE-hate. That's so negative. I guess bullies, Oni, demons, willful ignorance, stuff like that."

7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking? Do you have a bro? a mentor? a father figure? maybe a rival?
"Oh, there's Yillas. Big half-Orc type. Somehow uses a polearm and a shield at the same time. He, or she? Hard to tell. Well, Yillas thinks I need protection because I'm so small, even though I really don't. But we get along well enough. And he/she always appreciates my candies that I give her."

8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race? How are you different from most humans/elves/gnomes/orcs/tengu?
"Like I said, I'm an orphan. Never even met another Oread until I joined the society, so my race doesn't really influence my views I guess. I'm told I'm much more capricious and excitable than most oreads though."

9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries?
"I mean, I wouldn't really call it a fear, but I'm constantly worried that people will find my candies as unacceptable. I guess it's kind of silly, but I guess my greatest fear is finding the candymancers and then determining I am unworthy?"

10. What is your most treasured possession?
"Growing up in the monastery I was taught that material possessions are fleeting, so I've never been too terribly big on possessions. I have a headband that makes me smarter, an amulet that helps me fight. I guess if I had to choose, I'd say my portable candy-making kit. Helps me craft my magical candies everyday. But like I said, if it was destroyed, I'd be a bit sad, but I'd just get a new one."

The Oread frowns for a second. "I, uh, venture captain, I don't know what that was meant to represent. Anyway, the point is the same, I got yelled at for doing what you said and for what other people did."

Scarab Sages

An eager diminutive oread sitting in the front row is busily jotting down notes. She is wearing a pink dress with many pockets on her belt.

"Excuse me! Captain?" she says, waving her hand about like a hyperactive child. "Last time I got in trouble. I was so busy looking for traps that I didn't take good notes about the stonework or architecture or stuff. Then another pathfinder smashed all the pottery stuff during a fight. What am I supposed to do?"

Scarab Sages

The Oread tries to flag down the strange creature.
"Hold on Yillas, I need to count how much of what you-ooh. Ooh, that feels-"

For a brief moment the Oread's body seems to ripple, then she quite suddenly shrinks a full foot in size. Her legs retract so quickly into her body that she actually falls a short distance to the floor. The rocky protrusions around her eyes retract somewhat and her general appearance becomes softer and rounder.

"Ooh, ooh that still feels weird" she says rubbing her temples; her voice a noticeably hire timbre than before. "So strange to suddenly be able to think more clearly.". She turns her attention back to her customer. "Sorry, yes, uh, I'll need to count out what you, whoa, I forgot how low to the ground I am normally, no, yes, Yillas, I need to count out what you want to buy to figure out how much you owe me."

Scarab Sages

Keeks walks over to the 1/2 orc(?) and embraces him (?) as an old friend.

"Yillas, so good to see you! Yes, of course you can buy some candy."

She is halfway to her counter when she hears the second question Yillas poses.

"Ooh, oh sorry Yillas, no. This is a candymancer thing. Makes me a bit stronger and bigger, but it's set up for my biol-er, it's a magic that only works for me. I don't know of a way to make you whole again. I'm sorry." she says appoligetically. "You still want some candy?"

Scarab Sages

The oread balks for a second before realization washes over her face.

"Oh. . . oh yes, I see!" she starts laughing at her own mistake. She moves over to her backpack, which is sitting off to the side and rummages through it for a second, still laughing to herself.

She frowns for a bit before pulling out a peanut butter cookie.

"I'm afraid I'm not well versed in fox biology, let alone kitsune-fox biology. Are you good to eat peanut butter? I'm a confectioner by trade, you see, and I'd love to give you a sample. I know chocolate is bad for most canines but. . ." She reaches out and hands the cookie to Grr.

If you eat the cookie:
It is the result of a DC 29 craft-confectionary check

Scarab Sages

Keeks tentatively steps back, a little concerned.
"Did you just growl at me? Did. . . Did I just offend? I'm sorry, I know I can be a bit annoying. . . I'll, I'll back off." she says as she backs up a little, looking both sad and dejected.

Scarab Sages

The oread looks around slightly puzzled at the talking fox, and furrows her brow slightly.

"Oh, oh, your another Kitsune." Then the realization of his words hits her. "Oh! both feet! Haha, yes, I think I should!" She starts laughing as she pulls herself up and dusts off her dress.

"Right, because, you have four . . . that's funny!" She suddenly pauses for a moment, her joviality subsiding. "I-then again. Both feet . . ."

As if suddenly getting a thought, she pauses for a moment and goes over to a different training dummy. She gives it a good look, studies it for a moment, then enters a low martial arts stance for a moment.

Flurry of blows-studied target

Both hit AC 5

Damage roll 1: 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Damage roll 2: 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Suddenly, she springs into action, jumping up and performing a whirling kick with one leg, and then a straight kick with the other, propelling her off the wooden training dummy. She lands a few feet away from her target facing the opposite direction.

"Hmmm, still needs work . . . Almost didn't connect with that second kick. I guess I just need more practice." She finally turns back to the Kitsune.

"Ho yes! Thanks for the idea Mr. . . . uhhhh. Oh, sorry, introductions. Where are my manners? My name's Keeks! Keeks Krueger. Aspiring Candymancer." She tentitivly holds out a hand to shake but seeing as the Kitsune is in fox form, she halfway takes it back and then follows it up with a tien-style bow instead.

"Pleasure to meet you!"

Scarab Sages

A short oread in a poofy pink-and-white dress, with a slit down the front to allow for mobility, steps out onto the empty training ground. There are a few rocky protrusions around her eyes, and he skin seems to have bits of silica embedded in it. Strangely, she has human-like blonde hair.

She curiously inspects a training dummy (set up with realistic weak points), circling around it.

"Hmmmm, looks like strikes there and there would be effective. Maybe a knee and an elbow in rapid succession?"

Studied combat-flurry of blows
First strike: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
second strike: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
natural 1 always misses
second strike damage: 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

She completly misjudges the distance with her knee, sending her careening off balance, but before she falls, she manages to send a solid elbow into the dummy, then topples to the ground.

"Aw, phooey. Looks like I still need more practice" she says picking herself up.

"We welcome Erika Corum, a Mendevian Crusader, to the Scarab Sages! She looks forward on giving us vital information on extra-planar Demons so that we may spread her knowledge of how to combat them!

Sadly, she could not be here to accept the nomination in person, as she is busy, uh, 'researching' how to kill demons."

It might be just as well. It's questionable if the Archmage can do alchemy as written. Maybe the paths across the campus (or a certain other connection) are twisty and criss-crossing enough to channel the Trickster

"Thank you kindly. The kitsune form does very well for a great many people, I'm sure, but I am trying to grow out of it. Even the samsarans weren't sure if I would. Perhaps in a future lifetime."

I think a candymancer shop counts as an 'area with unusual magic.' Also, the pathfinder lodge is a walled keep for the guardian, has some practice yards for the champion, and my shop might count as a 'tavern' for the trickster.

The Oread views the kitsune quizzically for a moment. "Grow out of. . . Your species? Well, I won't pry, and you do you. I've been working on a candy that will TEMPORARILY change a person's species, but I haven't perfected it yet. Candymancer magic is pretty tricky, and I haven't quite got it down. I have a feeling I'm close to it, as well as making it work for other people. But it probably would only work for a few minutes at most."

She moves back to a washbasin and cleans the glass from her hands, then moves to grab a broom to sweep up the mess she made only to snap that in half too.

"Dangit!"

Her eyes brighten for a second becofore scrunching up in thought again.

"Oh, you're a Kitsune! I haven't met one of your kind before, at least I don't think I have. It's nice to meet you. Feel free to take whichever form you find most comfortable in my establishment.

"As for talking to spirits like you describe. . . I feel like I've heard about that before. Ohh, it's so hard to think in this form. Anyway, yes, you may certainly, uh, commu. . . kamu. . . comun. . . meditate here. And if my shop attracts, uh, impressions of candymancers of old, then I would certainly count myself blessed "

She holds out her hand for a handshake but notices the broken glass still in it from the last time she grabbed something and gives an awkward, apologetic smile before simply bowing in tien fassion instead.

Hah! Missed the DC 11 knowledge local check to know the abilities of a CR 1 medium by 1, because of the two point penalty to Int from my mutagen! Excellent RP oppertunity!

The Oread stares at the glass in her palm. "Weird, it didn't even hurt. It's like my skin is naturally armored or something.". She is jolted back to reality by her customer's comments.

"Huh? Oh, no, not permenant. How long it lasts depends on the skill of the maker. Can't remember how it exactly works. . . Hard to think. Anyway, rumors suggest true masters could keep it going for 2-3 hours, but I doubt mine will even last half an hour. Oh, sure you can get some yourself, scoops are in the drawer there.". She points to a utensil drawer then goes back to looking herself over.

She then immediately turns back. "Did you say spirits of the past? Can you talk to ghosts? I. . . Oh, but no. I think I am the first Candymancer to join the pathfinders. If you happen to talk to any candymancer ghosts though, I'd love to hear of their techniques. I am mostly getting by with fleeting glimpses of incomplete texts."

A young Tian man wearing simple travelling clothes and carrying a staff approaches the booth.

The oread turns to her new customer, a bit unsteady in her new form."Oh, hello, I-" she stops herself upon hearing her deep, gravely voice. She pauses for a second, putting her hand to her throat with a look of curiosity and shock. "Is that how I sound now? Uh, n-no. My candy won't transform you. Not yet at least. The Candymancer magic is tricky, and I can't get it to work on other people, yet."

She reaches over to a glass container of candy and tries to pick it up, but ends up accidentally crushing it in her grip.

"Whoa, that's . . . that's new . . ."

Sometime later, Keeks stands alone in the center of her shop. She slowly turns over a yellowish, marble-sized candy in her hands, considering it for a moment.

"Well, Venture-Captain Mea did say that even a bug could become stronger if it wanted it bad enough. . . And this SHOULD work according to the ancient candymancer texts I found. . ."

With great trepidation, she places the candy in her teeth.

"Rumble-BALL" she shouts as she bites down, shattering the candy to pieces.

Instantly she doubles over and falls to her knees, clutching her stomach. Then she starts to grow. Her features become more sharp and defined, her outfit becomes tighter, her rocky characteristics, more pronounced. The largest change, though, is how her muscles seem to balloon in size.

After the transformation ceases, she slowly stands, now nearly a foot taller than before. She curiously looks down at her hands and legs.

"Whoa." she manages in a very deep, gravely voice.

A small Oread enters and looks around.

"I, uh, I'm sorry to say I couldn't recruit any more of the Ekujae Elves to our cause, though they did say that they might be open to further talks. However:

She scoops her coins back into their pouch, leaving a platinum on the table. "Cuz it's so good!"

After she stows the pouch, she gingerly pulls something out of a pack at the small of her back and a mildly disgruntled quack ensues. Mea pulls out a somewhat disheveled duck. "Wanna pet my duck?"

The oread's fears seem slightly assuaged, but not by much.

"Well. . . I thank you, but . . . I mean, it's just . . . you are very large, and seem to be very strong. If one of your wings clipped me by accident it might take me out.

I, uh, I . . . thank you for the offer about the duck, but, well, I've never been much of an animal person. Ehehehe."

Krueger laughs nervously.

Scarab Sages

Hesitantly, the oread responds.
"Uh, it's not the chocolate, it's you venture-captain. I mean, no offense, but, uh, it looks like you could snap me in half with no effort.".

She nervously counts out 30 gp and slides the remainder of the gold back to the venture captain.

"Uhh, I'm glad you enjoy my sweets."

Scarab Sages

"Uhhhhhh. . . "

The oread stares up at the venture captain for a moment, trying to process it all. She then starts counting candies as she places the. In his pack. After about half an hour, and most of her stock, she finally fills an acceptable amount into the bag.

That'll be, uh, 30 gold, ma'am" she says hesitantly.

Keeks takes a step back as the massive creature descends upon her. She is obviously taken slightly aback by Mea, and more than a little scared.

"Oh, wow, you are . . . you are quite large. Yes, I, uh, I am glad you like my wares. How . . . how many of each?"

Scarab Sages

With a beaming smile, the oread grabs a massive container from behind the counter and hauls it up. The big box is separated into several sections, each with a different healing pile of chocolate.
"I've got mocha, milk, dark, white, jalapeño, and so much more! Please, take your time!"

The Oread shakes her head with a still-puzzled look on her face.

Marigold requests a fruity and sugary traditional Minkaian flavour.

Keeks looks a bit worried and disappears behind her counter. She seems to rummage around for a bit before coming up with a few candies.

"Oh, um, so . . . the thing is the Okashi no Sou-ryo were rather . . . uhh, traditional in their teachings. Lots of 'this is the only way to make candy' type talk. Kinda the reason I left actually. Anyway, they weren't too big on diversity. I've been trying to expand my repitoire, but, well, still learning. Bottom line is I don't know what a 'traditional Minkaian flavor is.' I'm from the boarder of Chu Ye. But these candies-" she says, as she gestures to the assortment in front of her "-are fairly sweet and fruity. Again, apologies,"she concludes with a worried smile on her face.

"It's okay. It's all sugar-water under the candy bridge. Truthfully, I think the best is yet to come. I'm pretty sure I'm on the verge of creating actual magical candy, just like the candymancers of old. Just a few more tweaks, and I think I can make my coffee cake actuall make you see and think better! Oh, oh, and a chewing gum that changes flavor based on what magic item you are holding. Her eyes narrow and her face becomes serious for a second. "Is that a joke about my race? If so it is in poor taste.". Her face then brightens up immediately. "If not, then yes, I'm working on something right now. Can't quite get the recipe right. Check back in a week or so maybe. Also, I'm so happy you like the Sherbet."
