"Is there any alcohol about?" Kardess asks, "It would look even worse for these guards if their drunkenness enabled your escape."

Dark Archive

What enemies are still visible and conscious on my turn?

Dark Archive

Did the baddies power attack with light weapons? I believe that is +1 damage, not +2.

On mobile, please study the adjacent enemy, then use light mace with studied combat and heroism .

Dark Archive

Auto-succeed on Perception.

Kardess moves up behind Roldala with his shortbow and heavy mace, and begins studying the enemies for their weaknesses.

Crunch:
Move Movement
Free Draw a weapon
Standard Ready Studied Combat; Trigger Whichever enemy attacks first

Dark Archive

Kardess draws his shortbow and carefully aims over the combatants to hit the Asmodean.

Crunch:
Move Draw a weapon
Standard Attack (blue)

Shortbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 Piercing: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Dark Archive

Did I mark the correct door for the one that Andor jammed?

Kardess brings Roldala back to the last door, cracks it open an inch, then points to the door that Andor jammed. "Perhaps you should keep an eye on those guards?"

Dark Archive

Once everyone is over the fence, Kardess waves for everyone to come closer. "If we wait until they come outside for a water break, we may catch them when they're exhausted. And avoid storming the building."

Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30

Dark Archive

Kardess follows his companions in silence. May The Shadow covers us completely. We need it.

Dark Archive

@Red: Stealth could be very important for something like that.

As Red's arm tenses to open the first door, Kardess' hand shoots out to hold it in place. He whispers, "Please, allow me."

Kardess mixes some powder into a vial and drinks it. Then he listens at the door a moment, before carefully cracking it open and listening again, and then inching the door a little wider to peek inside.

Cast heightened awareness. Take 10 for 27 Perception (+2 vs. traps) and 28 Stealth.

Dark Archive

Kardess waits until everybody is almost ready to leave for the day, then takes a few minutes to prepare and study the scrolls.

Crunch:
Cast alchemical allocation
Drink potion of heroism
Decipher scrolls
Carry potion of fly in hand at all times.

DC 22 Spellcraft (cure moderate wounds): 1d20 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (19) + (6) + 10 = 35
DC 23 Spellcraft (daylight): 1d20 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (10) + (6) + 10 = 26
DC 23 Spellcraft (remove blindness/deafness): 1d20 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (13) + (1) + 10 = 24
DC 23 Spellcraft (remove disease): 1d20 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (11) + (5) + 10 = 26

Dark Archive

Potion distribution works for me.

@Andor: Taking 10 is not allowed on aid another attempts.

"We really need to come up with a better disguise method. Perhaps Laria can recommend somebody? An actor, perhaps?"

Kardess points to a few missed spots on the ratfolk's disguise.

Everybody please roll aids on all Disguise checks. It is a free chance to improve our rolls--there is literally no risk, only reward.

Crunch:
Disguise (aid)(Roldala): 1d20 ⇒ 8
Disguise (aid)(Kardess): 1d20 ⇒ 8
Disguise (aid)(Slitheren): 1d20 ⇒ 16

Dark Archive

"Since the Salt Works are on the other side of the river, a night raid would require us to hideout until the bridges open at sunrise."

Dark Archive

"Andor and I require new disguises first, and we will all need a plan--but the idea is sound."

Dark Archive

Kardess continues working his way toward the coffeehouse as quickly as possible. May the lights shine on our enemies and cast a long shadow on Andor.

Dark Archive

Kardess sticks his fingers in his ears and spits his tongue out at the guard, "Sammy was right, you are too serious!" And then he simply vanishes.

Crunch:
Standard Activate Dissolution's Child (Supernatural, so no AoO)
Move Movement

Dark Archive

Kardess turns his head toward Andor and raises an eyebrow.

Disguise (aid): 1d20 ⇒ 17

Dark Archive

Kardess looks at the neighboring businesses. "Where shall we wait?"

Dark Archive

"Yes. I could use my laboratory right away."

Dark Archive

Kardess melts into the shadows, far away from the party. The dottari must have heard that!

After a couple minutes of silence, he comes out of hiding. "Are we sure our search is complete?" Kardess covers his eyes with his right hand. "The Shadow often hides things by letting us find something less valuable."

When Roldala holds out her wand, Kardess accepts the stick and touches her with it twice.

Crunch:
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Dark Archive

"Yes, let's spend the evening on this side of the bridge. But where shall we sleep?"

Dark Archive

Kardess closes his eyes for a moment in prayer and ritual, then begins examining the sight.

Crunch:
Cast heightened awareness and alchemical allocation
Drink a potion of heroism
Activate extend potion
Keep a potion of fly in hand

Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22
Knowledge (engineering) (aid): 1d20 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (8) + (5) + 6 = 19

Dark Archive

This is the next day, right? Now that I'm not carrying my alchemist lab around, I'm going to swap all of those ant hauls for heightened awareness.

Dark Archive

I've taken on more than I should have, and find myself at slightly above my bandwidth limits. I should still be able to post twice a day, but I don't have the energy to be one of the decision makers. I'm happy to follow wherever you guys lead the party, but for this game I need to be just a follower.

Dark Archive

"Has anyone ever been to this Silver Star before? Will we be able to search it discretely in the light of day?"

Kardess swishes around a potion bottle and says, "While the journey is safer in the light, the destination may be safer with the shadows on our side."

Dark Archive

I'm with Andor on this one, and I definitely do not want to be the player in charge of that sheet.

Dark Archive

"Perhaps I should scout this location alone. The dangers seem much higher," Kardess covers his eyes for a second, "But The Shadow can hide my small, dark frame from those guards."

I think Kardess has the highest Perception and Stealth, as well as 4 rounds of vanish and a potion of fly.

Dark Archive

Kardess turns suddenly as the long handle of Roldala's hammer strikes a stone and rings out like a tuning fork. He instantly fades into the shadows, reaching into his backpack.

Stealth: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19

If there is time, I will draw up to two tanglefoot bags.

Dark Archive

Kardess quickly mixes a few powders with some sort of purplish liquid, then swallows it along with a potion. Next, he removes a vial from his left wrist sheath and replaces it with the bottle he had in hand.

Crunch:
Cast alchemical allocation
Activate extend potion
Drink a potion of heroism Last 100 minutes

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16 +2 vs. traps
Take 10 for 28 Stealth

Potion of fly in hand now.

Dark Archive

If there is moonlight, perhaps we should do something else and wait for a new moon?

Kardess leans up on his toes to look into Red's red eyes. "Interesting. And quite useful."

Dark Archive

@GM: What odd find? I'm bouncing from one thing to the next and have little idea what's going on or supposed to.

Kardess looks at Andor, then Red, and asks them, "How do you plan to see in the darkness? Even the smallest light could attract attention."

Dark Archive

I have a separate copy of Kardess, and can just restore that backup at the end of the scenario.

Dark Archive

"Agreed. The Shadow willing," Kardess covers his eyes briefly, "The light will shine on our enemies and cast a long shadow for us to hide in."

Dark Archive

What do people think about the pace so far? Personally, I feel like things are being thrown at us faster than we can deal with them, and I'm drowning in it. Each time something happens that I want to explore, another thing gets tossed in before that one is resolved.

Dark Archive

Kardess' business relationship with Clenchjaw's may be enough to find out what we need there.

Dark Archive

Kardess follows Red downstairs, but places a small hand on the man's hip before he starts moving anything. "We should pray before uncovering the shadows beneath those rocks."

Kardess covers his eyes for a minute, his lips moving quietly the entire time. He then walks around the collapsed rocks and looks carefully at them, before helping Red move the largest stones.

Crunch:
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28 +2 vs. traps
Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Strength (aid): 1d20 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (3) + 2 = 11
Strength (aid): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Strength (aid): 1d20 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + (1) + 2 = 10
Strength (aid): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Strength (aid): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Strength (aid): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Dark Archive

"What do you seek in a home? Perhaps we already know of a suitable place."

May The Shadow cover this bright dragon to protect him--and us--from the light of Thrune's eyes.

Dark Archive

"More importantly," Kardess says, "How many brawls have you started in Clenchjaw's recently?"

Dark Archive

"You were the unfortunate target of a practical joke, but no harm seems to have come of it."

Kardess sweeps his hand across the laughing patrons and says, "If anything it may have livened up the crowd. That may even sell a few extra drinks."

Dark Archive

Kardess takes a copper piece from his belt pouch and throws it at the rafters, getting the faerie dragon's attention. Once he catches the little trickster's eye, the wayang winks and nods his head.

Walking around the bar, Kardess wakes the proprietor and tells him, "We appear to have a flying prankster. Is the faerie dragon a regular?"

Crunch:
Move Movement
Standard Aid another (wake Clenchjaw)

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

Dark Archive

How did we get to round 3 already?

"Their sleep is magical, not chemical. That means we should be able to wake them quickly."

Crunch:
Move Movement
Standard Aid another (wake the person against the wall)

Dark Archive

Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (4) + (3) + 11 = 18

Dark Archive

Made the crowds transparent, so that we can still see the grid.

Kardess tries to shout above the crowd, "First we kick that Thrune-lover out to the street. Then we kick him all the way down the street!"

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + (6) + 8 = 20 Did the rabble rouser cast sleep on the staff?

Dark Archive

Sorry, yesterday got the better of me. Laid down for a nap after dinner, and didn't get out of bed until 7 this morning.

Kardess leans toward Slitheren and whispers, "That's a faerie dragon, and he just used one of his innate magical abilities to disappear for a few seconds. He's probably only moving to a new hiding spot."

"Though pranksters, they rarely cause any real harm. This is an unusual spot to find a free-spirited creature of the wilderness, though. I suspect he serves a like-minded magic user, who can be found somewhere in this room right now."

And anyone like-minded with such a fey-like being almost certainly chafes under Thrune tyranny.

Crunch:
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (5) + (3) + 11 = 19 Going with spell-like abilities, since I remember those and can work them into the dialogue right away.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (13) + (4) + 8 = 25

Dark Archive

Profile updated to reflect purchases. The sheathes will contain a potion of fly and potion of protection from acid. Whenever it won't be untoward, Kardess will carry the potion of heroism in hand.

"Untoward" is very open to GM interpretation, though at the very least I assume most social situations would be awkward times to have a potion in hand.

Dark Archive

I forgot to follow up on part of a post. The items I had wanted to acquire were two spring-loaded wrist sheathes. Is it okay to say Kardess purchased them at some point today?

Dark Archive

Kardess looks at Andor and Red, then takes the man's hand and replies, "Please, call me Poshvent."

"What you do with your own possessions is none of my business, sell them if you wish. A three month exclusive strikes me as a large commitment however. Let's start with two months, shall we?"

Dark Archive

That is what I had in mind. No mechanical benefit, just extra drunk protection.

Dark Archive

Would it be possible to design a short-term stink bomb/smokestick? One where the stench would expire in a minute along with the smoke? For example, by adding some sulphur and increasing both the cost and crafting DC a litte.

Dark Archive

Kardess looks to Andor and their other nearby companions, "Perhaps we should start with a single night per week? And see how that goes?"

Turning back to the bartender, the gnome says, "I don't currently have any smokesticks--and would need to experiment first to design a pick-me-up. Unfortunately, I am new in town and still need a place to setup my laboratory. Perhaps you have some empty space? I would happily provide alchemical goods at cost in exchange for the use of an appropriate room."

And that would give us a good excuse for being here so often, if House Thrune ever gets curious.

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Maybe he wants to whisper extra softly. Or add a little husky flirting to it :-P
