Trying to get the attention of my companions, I loudly say, "These are werewolves! They have increased damage reduction to any form of attack except weapons made of silver!"

I grab the scroll of Protection from Lycanthropes from the cabinet and cast it on Carp, hoping to save his hide. Then I grab the shortsword +1/+3 against lycanthropes and dash over and give it to Roran, saying, "Here - use this!"; and at the same time I grab the 5 silver daggers, and give them to Velcore and Trane and Uldar and Carp, if he is able, and keep one for myself.

Then I turn and attack the nearest werewolf with my silver dagger and unleash an ear-piercing scream at him!

Melee Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Trying to figure out what type of creatures these are.

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

If this player has/had seen through the magic you will/would have gotten an IMMEDIATE explanation!
Does that clarify the matter?

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Monitoring these rapid developments, I move to H-7 to get a better view and cast Mage Armor on myself so I am ready for what will ensue.

I had indicated a magical aura in the room, especially strong on the east wall. I suspect the angels were an illusion originating elsewhere in the temple and projected on the east wall.

Standing in the doorway I say to my companions,"This entire room is giving off a magical aura and it is much stronger on the eastern wall at the "mirror" area." And to Uldar I say,"Are you having any luck with that door?"

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Observing all of this I suggest to my companions, "Perhaps we should step back outside the door and discuss this before we continue, as I suspect things are not what they seem."
Having said this I turn and go out the door we came in, into the hallway, urgently gesturing to my companions to follow me.

I cast Detect Magic DC13

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Good luck with your finals, Roran!

I agree with Carp, I whisper, then nod affirmatively to Uldar and pass the message on to Velcore.

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Thinking to myself that this "benefit" doesn't seem worth the possibility of losing all our weapons, etc., my suspicions are aroused. There is "good" and there is "appearing good".

Sense Motives: 1d20 ⇒ 7

I have followed my companions into this room, observing and listening to the interactions, my Bugbear companion continuing at my side. I vaguely remember finding the poem these creatures mentioned and wondering which one of use has it. Fascinating situation!

It seems the salamander creatures are just an illusion. Perhaps they are to distract us from figuring out how to get to the powerful source of the Lawful Good magic that I sense under the evil firepit.

I then follow Uldar through the northern doors.

I cast Detect Magic. Then I ask my bugbear if he knows how often these objects are used and by whom and how they are used.

Bugbear at my side, I survey this immense room and study its unique items. I wonder what the glowing amber liquid is in the big copper cauldrons; I wonder why each has 16 bowls and a copper dipper around them on an octagonal brass table. And the tiny creatures cavorting on the hot coals in the diamond shaped fire pit before the alter are most intriguing. I attempt to search knowledge bases to find answers.

I say to the other members in our group,"We killed that human cleric, Prefect Alrrem, in the last battle before this one! Perhaps Roran will be able to use the Flametongue sword.'

To the bugbear I say,"We know you are not a bad person. Will you please show us what else is on this floor? And if you are familiar with the floors below this one, will you please show us the layout of those floors as well?"

I quietly approach the prone bugbear and cast a charm spell on him. DC14

I move to T-3 and after assessing the situation, I launch Magic Missile at Bugbear A.

Damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 3) + 3 = 10

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

I would like the Thunderstone from one of the human clerics in Room 204; and from the western room - 205c - I'd like the scroll with the 3 spells on it; and from the eastern room - 205d - I'd like the bone scroll case with the Protection from Devils scroll, and the strange book Uldar found.

HP: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
HP reroll: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
HP=45+10=55

"Thank you, Velcore." I turn to the returned elf and say,"Welcome back, Carp. You have been missed; and your skills and antics."

I loot the bodies, looking especially for magic items. Then I proceed to the anteroom (205a) and look around. I take the quills, the ink pot, and the roll of parchment from the table and put them in my backpack. I examine the brass-bound chest and check to see if it is locked. If not, I open it and investigate to see what is inside. If it is locked I will say to Uldar, Hey, Uldar! Can you open this chest?"

Still in room 204, I extinguish my Flaming Sphere. Then I look around at the bodies and cast Detect Magic and scan the room.

I yell at Velcore, "Hey! Please get rid of this Silence Spell so I can work."

I move to J-6 and direct my Flaming Sphere onto Bugbear H in E-8. DC 15

Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) = 12

I step back to J-3 and cast Flaming Sphere on I in H-9. DC 15

Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4) = 12

Welcome back, Carp! Glad you came back!!!

I attack Bugbear D with Magic Missile.

Damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3, 1) + 3 = 8

Ah-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya . . .

Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

I cast Mage Armor on myself and move up to J-5.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have also transcribed the 6 spells on the scrolls that Uldar allotted to me that are not already in it.

I learned the spell Protection from Evil from wizard Burne (1000gp).

I will scribe a scroll, one each for the following spells:
Protection from Evil, Mage Armor, Knock, Lightening Bolt, Flaming Sphere, and Stone Call. (750gp)

That will leave me with 3254gp.

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

I do not have the spell Haste and it is not in the list of spells that can be bought, so we are out of luck there.

I have transcribed the 7 spells on the Otyugh scroll into my spell book, and will scribe backup scrolls for several of the more frequently used spells.

"I agree with Trane. We still have work to do in the Temple. Perhaps this Zuggtmoy is still abiding in the deepest level."

I will make my purchases and then be ready to return to the Temple with the rest of our party.

Uldar, you are awesome with keeping track of all our loot and appropriately distributing it! Yes, I will take all of the items you suggested for me, and thank you! And I will see if I can figure out how to keep a list of my equipment in my profile. :-)

Velcore, I think you should go ahead and take your full 4000gp and use it to beef yourself up for our future endeavors. You were there for the worst of the battles.

I move up and say,"I suggest Brandor deliver all these people back to town safely, while the rest of us continue exploring the temple and attempting to find the source of this evil."

I go over to the body of the ogre and search it for anything of value, and then do the same with the body of the bugbear.

Then I go over to the 4 cells and try to see who/what are in each of them.

Perception - ogre: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Perception - bugbear: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

I step toward the ogre and cast Sleep on him. DC 14

After putting the magic arrow in my backpack, I get up and head toward room 228 per Uldar's suggestion. I say, "Are you all coming with me?"

I say,"Thank you, Uldar, taking the scroll from his hand. "That arrow did hurt me a bit, but I am almost back to full strength.

To Roran I say,"I'll have a swig of that wine. It will help ease this pain in my chest." I take the bottle from him and gulp down a couple of long draughts of the wine. "Thank you so much, Roran."

"Yes, Velcore! That would be wonderful! I would really appreciate that."

After that I join Roran in eating my fill out of the food chest.

Then I sit quietly propped against a wall and take the magic arrow that I had earlier pulled out of my chest out of my backpack to examine it carefully. I cast Detect Magic and Spellcraft on it.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

You will definitely be missed, Garm. Good luck. If you ever want to return you will be most welcome!

Hearing Uldar's shouted message I am somewhat confused as I already moved out of the doorway back against the wall, but I move from G-2 to G-3. Then I move my Flaming Sphere onto Bugbear C.

Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6) = 13 DC 15

I step back to G-2 and cast Flaming Sphere at Bugbear E.

Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1) = 11 DC 15

I move to G-3 and cast a Lightening Bolt on Bugbear #4, #6, #7, and #8.

Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 1, 5) = 18 DC 16 reflex save for 1/2 damage

I cast Mage Armor on myself, then try to ascertain what creatures these are.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

I cast Magic Missile at the creature.

Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2, 3) + 3 = 11

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

I say to Brandor;"That new shield is perfect for you! How wonderful! And Velcore you benefited too."

"Uldar, I can use the parchment if you don't mind, and maybe one of the small pouches and one of the large ones?"

Then I cast Detect Magic.

Having followed Uldar after the end of the grand battle, I stop beside Brandor and admire his new shield. Then I say, "Brandor, mind if I try?"

I cast Detect Magic on the shield. Then I use Spellcraft on it as well.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

I cast Acid Splash at the guard attacking Orak.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Yes!!! We have missed you! We saved your place. Welcome back!
