You can choose not to apply the credit to a character and run the game again at a later time when one of your characters is free. Right?

1/5

2 people marked this as a favorite.

OK look, here is the confusion: the PFS guide uses SESSION many times (open the PDF and search for the word SESSION) and it seems to work both for a 'play session' and for a game.

However, this is the most relevant text to the issue stated in the OP.

"Pathfinder Modules are generally three times the length of a standard Pathfinder Society Scenario and often take players two or three 4–5 hour sessions to complete."

1/5

Allowing rerolls is a form of mercy. They're a gift, a blessing, divine intervention, a do-over...

If this issue isn't settled clearly in RAW (or FAQ'd), then the GM should make the call.

1/5

OK that is good advice. I like both of your responses and, as my first time figuring this out, I thought to rule "he got away with it."

I just wanted opinions for the next time. It was a situation that totally caught me off guard. To put it plainly, I didn't realize how much chaos spell casters can cause with 0 level spells!

Start with the base perception DC. It is DC 0 to hear the details of a conversation or to see a creature in plain sight, so I wouldn't expect the base DC to identify someone casting would be high. Modify by distance (+1 per 10 feet) and by +2 to +5 for unfavorable or terrible conditions depending on how loud the audience is. Modify by +5 again for the creature making the check being distracted. Based on those modifiers, I'd place the DC between 7 and 10 +1 per 10 feet of distance.

My question is: who gets to make a perception check?

1/5

GMing a game with a theater performance and the PCs are in the audience. A player casts Daze on one of the actors on stage to hinder their performance. The actor fails their save.

Considering this was done during a portion of the performance in which the audience was noisy (laughing), I'm not sure who if anyone would get a chance to hear or see the spell being cast (V,S).

In a crowd of 100 people, how would you GM this?

Let it go?
Assume that 1-2 people saw the casting?
Roll a percentage for chance?

At first I was inclined to believe everyone would be watching the stage, however it's natural for people to look around every once in awhile.

Thanks

They explained it to you. They've been very anxious to play (not to run a game).

OK Lord_Malak, a couple of questions...

1) are you and your friends available Sunday monrings around 9:00 AM Eastern US time (GMT-4)?

2) How many of you are there?

1/5

Hey Kaleb welcome to PSOC.

It may seem like you're in over your head at first but give things a try and within one or two games you'll be comfortable with it.

R20 is amazing and, if you've ever wanted to try running a game online, you can get every bit as much out of it as you put into it.

The Segang Expedition Levels 1-5 *CORE*

Rumors of a lost shrine in the Segang Jungle draw the Pathfinder Society’s attention, but the prohibitive cost of sending a team into the wilds of Jalmeray threatens to shut down the expedition before it even begins. Fortunately, a wealthy patron has offered to fund the PCs travel expenses in return for their help in his decades-old quest. Can the Pathfinders balance this new obligation with their exploration of the archaeological site? Written by Benjamin Bruck

The GM will be using any and all books the scenario directs him to use which may include books outside the options of the players.

The players will be using:

1) Core Rulebook
2) Character Traits Web Enhancement
3) PFS Guide

Hope that helps.

In the naga-ruled nation of Nagajor in southern Tian Xia, the Pathfinder Society finds itself caught between feuding factions in a remote village. Forced to choose a side, the decisions of the agents involved could determine whether or not the Society gains access to a valuable religious artifact considered sacred by the village's nagaji population.

Check your email for the Roll20 link and you'll see how everyone's health looks there.
Harsks Axe was just melted by acid. Kyra may not have seen it from the stairs but maybe as she moved up and saw the dwarf swearing loudly and looking at his half-melted axe.

Forget it, yes. Here is a quote from the guide... it's on page 21.

I'm an old pencil and paper guy so my "real" sheet will always be sitting on my desk.

A second question, other than my sheet, book, (i assume we use the dice roller built into roll20), what other tracking sheets do I need handy? I see an inventory one (which i have blank right now, i hope the 150g initial purchases don't have to be invoiced), a society one (call me boring, Grand Lodge), and reference to some sheet I can only assume we get after the session.

Sorry for the sea of questions, everyone is a virgin once.

Questions are awesome... usually. All of these are. I'll send you all the standard PFS sheets along with a regular PFS character sheet in additional to a digital one if you decide to join the dark side. Send me an email: gamerjunar@gmail.com and I'll reply w/ all the stuff. Sorry I forgot I can't use warhorn to reach you since I'm not the GM.

OH! And most people don't inventory their initial 150g. Do however remember to weigh your gear. If you're not putting points into STR, even your gold is a worry at level 1. =D

...double OH... there's the Pathfinder Traits Web Enhancement but I'm sure you've already looked that over for your traits.

It'll come down to windows my friend. I have three windows open when I play.

Murder's Mark a Core Campain for level 1 characters

An urban mystery adventure for 1st-level characters.Everyone in the fishing town of Ilsurian is excited when the legendary Umbra Carnival rolls into town—even if the show is run by members of the much-maligned Varisian ethnic group. With strange and exotic beasts, scandalous performances, games of chance, and all the other fun of a traveling fair, who could resist such an opportunity for entertainment?Unfortunately for both the town and the circus, however, entertainment isn’t the only opportunity the carnival presents. Hidden within Ilsurian, a guild of thieves and scoundrels has been waiting for just such an occasion to launch a campaign of theft and murder—leaving the strangers from the circus to take the blame. With tensions mounting between locals and performers, and the body count rising on both sides, it’s up to the PCs to uncover what’s really going on and clear the circus’s name before the entire town erupts in a firestorm of ethnic violence.

We Be Goblins!

A Pathfinder Society Module for 4 players using pre-generated Goblin characters. The credit for this game may be applied to a 1st or 2nd level character.

The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh have stumbled upon a great treasure—fireworks! Yet unfortunately for them, the tribe member responsible for the discovery has already been exiled for the abhorrent crime of writing (which every goblin knows steals words from your head). To remedy this situation, the Licktoads’ leader, His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad, has declared that the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve the rest of the fireworks from a derelict ship stranded in the marsh.

Someone brought me the following argument...

Under Magic, it reads:

Caster Level... The word “level” in the short descriptions that follow always refers to caster level.

However, the short description doesn't use the word level. You've got to read the spell block to see that it has a duration of 1 minute/level (see below).

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range personal
Target touch
Duration 1 minute/level (D)

So is the duration of this spell 1 minute per caster level or 1 minute per class level?

Thanks

There's a vanity you can purchase that makes it so you don't have to worry about feeding a mount, so normally I'd assume you're supposed to track it.

The vanity is for home game use of the Field Guide.

Rations, inn stays, travel expenses, stabling, and other minutiae are hand waved in society play.

I thought that purchases over 1 gold are to be recorded during a scenario and, thus a 400 gold stabling tab might need to be accounted for however, I can't find an official reference so I will go with this hand waving as you call it. I was thinking that the balance to a 2nd level character having a 6HD combat trained pet would have been upkeep but I will ignore it.

Thanks for your response.

1/5

I would like to know if pet feed needs to be on the inventory tracking sheets and chronicle sheets. Why?

A 400 lb large carnivore will eat 400 copper of feed per day. The PC takes a 104 day scenario so the carnivore needs 104(400) copper worth of feed.

So do pet animals need to be fed in Pathfinder Society play?

Suthainn wrote:
Remember that as an animal, NOT an animal companion, you are needing to use move actions to apply the 'handle an animal' use of the skill and a full action to 'push an animal'. This does slightly cut down on the power of it, but not enough in most games, generally unless you want most combats at levels 1-3 to end with the tiger chewing on the enemies you might want to decide that tigers aren't for sale in most places as a GM. If you do decide to go with it, bear in mind that tigers need to eat around 40-70 pounds of fresh meat in a day, that's going to cause some issues most likely and certainly helps make it a bit more interesting if the tiger starts to get hungry... ;)

Does paying to feed your animal apply to Pathfinder Society? I hadn't considered that...

I don't know about nicer... 500g for something that goes:

Melee 2 claws +10 (1d8+6 plus grab), bite +9 (2d6+6 plus grab)

Thanks for the responses all; I will get back to reading about this now.

It's late here so allow me your patience...

A 2nd level character purchases a 6th level tiger for 500 gold and he can ride it as a mount and use it to attack (3 times) in combat?

I would appreciate directions to the appropriate references as I don't have the time to look this up right now.

Thank you all for any assistance.

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1–5.

While on a routine mission to escort a dignitary to the mysterious Mordant Spire aboard a disreputable smuggler's ship, the PCs find themselves embroiled in a murder mystery that could jeopardize the Pathfinder Society's relationship with the isolationist elves who call the citadel home. Can the cunning Pathfinders discover who among the ship's crew of scum and villains is responsible for the crime in time to clear their own names? This murder mystery upon the open sea features a mechanic allowing for a different killer each time it's run to ensure that no amount of word of mouth will spoil the investigation for any team of canny players.

Yep, that's how it works.

The solution: talk to the player. If the player is simply inexperienced, ask them to moderate their behavior and take better account of their allies' positioning. If the player fails to improve, and the GM feels that they are not acting in good faith, they should remove the alchemist from the table.

Okay, I appreciate the confirmation. I read the basic "bomb" description and didn't see mention of the random squares. For the record, our alchemist was outstanding and I think the most anyone took was 2 damage but... it got me thinking about the future.

Thanks again!

An alchemist in the party today kept (accidentally) bombing the party. The way it was explained to me is that any time his bomb would miss it's target, I'd roll a d8 and the bomb would land in one of the 8 surrounding squares and deal splash damage from there.

So in Society play, PVP isn't allowed. How do I deal with accidental bombings (PVP)? Does the class really work like this?

Thanks.
