Jack sat down across from a table from Bolt and Shimmer. The room was one of the old resort suites with the bed and unnecessary furniture removed. Now, it served the role of small meeting room. ”Thanks for coming, Jedi.” Bolt started. ”You did well today. You certainly can hold your own in a fight and take a beating.” Jack smiled lopsidedly deciding whether that was more of a compliment or concern, ”thanks. I think. I’ve never sparred with anyone so strong or so fast. It will take some adjustment.” ”We asked you here, because we have a proposal for you.” Bolt continued. ”Our original plan was to locate you with this group in New Orleans. However, we think your powers may be more suited to more surgical operations. You blend in better than most of us, and your “Mind Trick” ability lends itself to misdirection. We want to partner you with a senior meta to quickly react and collect potential metas. What do you say?” Jack nodded along with Bolt’s comments and paused thoughtfully before responding to her question, ”well. I believe that I’m meant to be here. I must use my powers to defend and to protect and will serve you for the good of the galaxy.” He could not see either of their facial reactions behind their masks, as he paraphrased the Jedi Code. ”Yes, of course, I agree.” Bolt nodded and grimaced at the reference to the galaxy, ”good. You know we don’t represent the galaxy, right?” She paused hoping Jack would acknowledge his Jedi delusion. After a minute of slightly uncomfortable silence, she continued, ”right. Shimmer will take you to meet the senior meta immediately. We have a window of opportunity to connect you two in the next ten minutes. Good luck.” ”Thanks for the opportunity. Please tell the others that it was great to meet them.” Jack smiled and replied. Jack and Bolt shook hands, and Shimmer escorted Jack to meet his new partner.
"Yes, Pixie. You were the target of good teamwork. At least, you can say that it took several of them to put you down." Jedi quips. "Hey Arachnid, you were pretty impressive. John Carpenter scary." He continues with a smile. Do you want Jedi to go it alone? Or be assigned to another group by the organization? I don't think that he would quit using his powers or stop fighting for meta liberty.
OK Folks. I'm changing characters. I've remembered that I'm not a big fan of M'Artists, and as MDT pointed out, Jedi is partially a Mentalist, too. Fortunately, our table doesn't have a brick, and that's what I enjoyed playing. Yes, I thought about adding a lightsaber power to Jedi, but lightsabers are too deadly against anything besides other lightsabers. And I couldn't imagine Jack being deadly to anyone. So the new character concept will build this guy. I've tentatively named him Adam Storm, code-named "Mud". His first order powers will be Mud Mimicry. After he's an effective brick, his second order powers will be Mud Manipulation. I'm thinking that he would be Susceptible to being immersed in water to the point of dissolving. Any other ideas would be appreciated. cheers
Yes, I'm feeling underwhelmed with Jack. To get 5 Speed, it will blow his Normal Characteristics limitation and take points from other things. Don't know. Maybe dump the TK, then he's just a bland martist. The combat reminded me that I preferred speed bricks. Our table doesn't have a brick per se, so there might be a good fit. I like your pictures, MDT. Do you have one or two places where you look? If we can change characters, I would look there and some other places for a cool picture, and then build a character around it. I'm out all day with the family tomorrow, so I'll be thinking. For the record, I don't want to slow the game down with a character change. cheers
Sorry for the delay. Couldn't post from work. Turn 1, Phase 9 Jack could not believe the punishment Pixie just took. Drider looked like she dished out some pain to Arachnid, and Chess did something that put Gridlock on his rear. Jedi rushes toward Gridlock and leaps foot first at Gridlock. He puts all of his adrenaline into his strike. Move 5". Combat levels stay in DCV 7-2 kick +2 levels = 7. Push 10 Strength = 11 END
MDT, Jack planned here to abort to block. His base DCV would be 12 -1 = 11 for the danger sense mitigating the acting. Isn't that a miss by Gridlock, because he only hit an 8 DCV? EDIT I'm regretting not playing a speed brick. I forgot how much fun they were.
Turn 1, Phase 3 Jack is pleasantly surprised when Snapdragon manages to snag Bolt. Then, he grimaces in sympathetic pain when she gets cratered by Gridlock. He knows how much that hurts. Jack tries not to smile when he sees the boy knocked a$$ over teakettle after saying how much fun this fight is. He wants to drink with Arachnid. Seeing his opening, Jack hustles toward the pinned Bolt to deliver a flying side kick to Bolt's shoulder. He lands on his back foot ready for Gridlock's counter punch. move 5" toward Bolt
Turn 0, Phase 12 Jack enters the courtyard with his thoughts swirling. His attempt to prepare team tactics was a bust the previous night. Chess and these girls will learn the hard way, he guesses. After Sanction presses the button, Jack centers his mind and reaches out with his feelings. Bolt's first move is anticipated, and Arachnid is a full on spider like Drider: fast with webbing. Jack thinks to himself after the DING. He hustles toward the center to spread out from the others to make it harder for Bolt to target them all. He still remembers his brief fight with Tatiana, so he prepares a defense. move 5" toward Gridlock but stay 5" away from Bolt
"Oh." Jedi finally understands the high or low. "Flying could be an advantage depending on what Frag and Arachnid can do. And repeatedly tripping Gridlock will not work, unless a second person is there to hit him on the ground. I tried that tactic solo against another brick called Tatiana, and she knocked me out." Jack looks to the other three metas hoping that they will join the brainstorming.
"High or low? I don't know what you mean, Snapdragon. And yes, "hoping for a lucky hit" is one of the worst ways to fight." Jedi smiles and tries again. "Yes, I agree that you and Drider can hit as hard as me. But you two also have ways of stopping people that I do not. You have your vines, and she has her webs. My point is that we have to find a way to stop Bolt, in order to get her. If you grab her and I hit her, we could potentially knock her out before she wiggles loose. It's about timing and teamwork." "Frag and Arachnid are both probably dangerous, too. That's why they're here and not captured. If we want to speculate using their codenames, Frag might cause explosions like fragmentation grenades. And, Arachnid might have similar powers to Drider or Spiderman. But, we don't know. What I am suggesting is a tactic to deal with Bolt, while the other two reveal what they can do." "Chess, could you teleport Gridlock into the air? I don't think he can fly, and he could probably survive falling any distance. If you could teleport him high enough, it might take him out of the fight for awhile and potentially damage him when he lands. Besides Pixie's powder, does anyone have another way to care of Gridlock?"
Jack is happy about the city choice, since he's already enrolled in the magnificent Loyola University. The upcoming fight concerns him, not for himself, but for the others. Jack has been sparring for years and is well-practiced taking a hit, but he's not sure about the girls and the Chinese boy. "Are we going to fight in the courtyard? With someone saying, 'go' or something," Jack asks Bolt and Grilock for clarification. After the answer, Jack suggests, "maybe we should discuss among ourselves before we fight," looking at the girls and Chess, then Bolt and Gridlock for support. ===================================================================== Assuming the five player characters get some privacy, this scene starts. Jack closes the door and sits down with the other four new recruits. "Alright, there are five of us versus four of them, so we have at least one advantage. Bolt is super fast, so it will be hard to pin her down. I'm sure she will avoid pausing near me, so I can get a clear shot. Gridlock, on the other hand, will be tough. I will need a lucky hit, in order to put him down." After a comfortable pause, he continues, "so, one tactic would be for Snapdragon or Drider to attempt to stop Bolt long enough for me to get a shot at her. Drider, you might be quick enough to fight Gridlock toe-to-toe, but I don't think any of us is tough enough to survive too many of his hits. Now, Pixie and Chess, how do you think you can put one of them unconscious or set one of us up? What other ideas does everyone have?" He looks at everyone hoping for some ideas before the fight.
During the two weeks, it is clear to you that Jedi has been training to use his powers for years. With Bolt and Gridlock, he is an eager student learning as much from them and their experience as possible. When left to themselves, he resumes a specific regime that reminds anyone who remembers Episode V Empire Strikes Back of Luke's training with Yoda. He runs, jumps, and flips around the courtyard. He proves as fast as Snapdragon running (20" noncom Running x 4 Spd) in her fastest forms. In addition, he practices martial arts forms. He spars with Bolt, Gridlock, and anyone else, while wearing a blindfold some times. He's not as good without his sight, but he is certainly not blind. Once a day, he spends some time at the demonstration car. He concentrates and holds his hand out to it. It rattles but does not move.
During downtime, Jedi keeps to himself unless approached. He appears very comfortable with the situation and enjoys the change in scenery. He takes time to watch the sunrise and sunset within the boundaries of the resort. Occasionally, you will see him use his Telekinesis to toggle light switches, change channels without a remote control, or bring something from across the room to him. Again he must concentrate, but he is confident of the results.
Sorry, I missed that pop culture reference. I don't live in the US nor have much exposure with Colton' generation. I just remembered him from Arrow. I'm OK to fast forward. We can work out the development of our characters' relationships in Discussion and/or PM. Then, we can narrate those relationships evolving between vignettes. Potentially, we can do the same with the NPCs if MDT agrees. As a base, Jack does not accept being a Metahuman and believes that he can use the Force; he must have a high midi-chlorian count. Nothing will shake that belief, so please don't confront him about it unless you want their relationship to turn sour. Rolling your characters' eyes or smiling when he talks of the Force is alright. If you want a better relationship with him, then you should support his delusion. He is quite Zen/Hindu about accepting where the universe/Force wants him to be and do. And he believes that place is here with you. He is generally cheerful and sincerely wants to help make the world a better place. On the other hand, he is an introvert, so he won't go beyond polite to engage your characters. Please let me know how you think your character would engage with Jack and where their relationship would evolve. I've some ideas but have already written more than my quota this morning. cheers
Punching Bag Boy is 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, with a lean and muscular build. He wears his brown hair short and unkempt for easy maintenance. He has light brown eyes that appear golden in certain light. His wardrobe is typical American student: veteran jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and sneakers. The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind getting him to this South African resort. He does not believe in many of things that he has heard, but one thing is clear: people are being hunted, and the hunters must be stopped. The Force has led to him this point, and he listens. He nods to Janice when she recognizes him but does not volunteer his name. He lets the conversation drift away from him, while he ponders how to introduce himself. Finally there’s a comfortable pause in the conversation, so he clears his throat and says, ”I suppose you could call me a Jedi, instead of Punching Bag Boy. I have black belts in Karate and Tae Kwon Do and follow the Jedi Code. I don’t think I am a Metahuman, but what people are doing to you is wrong. So, I want to help you if I can.” Chess, what do you look like? Because your avatar picture looks nonhuman. I've a good idea of the others but not you.
MDT: Fell into a 120,000 volt, 80,000 amp relay? Jack incredulously repeats to himself. He starts paying attention to power lines and pulls up his hood in case the field drops.
After another minute of walking, Jack asks Sparky, ”That didn’t seem like the first time that you had met Tatiana. Have you been hunted for a while?”
MDT: Sparky? Tatiana? Recharging by lightning? Sale to a government lab? Dissection? Disney World? Is this Florida or California? Too many things that don’t make sense race through Jack’s mind. He searches his feelings for some truth, like an overboard sailor grasping for a life preserver in a hurricane. He casually looks around for indications that confirm that they are in Disney World.
After several minutes of silence and virtual steam escaping from his ears, Jack finally quietly replies, ”Disney World? Really? I need a drink. Let me buy you one, too.”
MDT: I forgot to roll Knockback Reduction on Jack’s attack. Knockback Reduction: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6) = 11 Jack did 4 body x2 for Vitals. If 4-11=-7 or 4x2-11=-3 would have been positive, would she have had to get up and move to Jack, therefore not having enough actions to attack? I'm asking again, because my game mechanics are super rusty.
Dropped on the picnic table, Jack is mentally stunned and physically bruised. His life and reality are turned upside down. During the 20 minute wait, his brain finally recovers working overdrive to develop so many questions. As the man returns, Jack is pacing around the table. When the man gives his attention, Jack vomits the first dozen of a ton of questions with an unconscious amount of Jedi Mind Trick to Force answers. "Please answer these questions: Who are you? Who was that blue chick? Is she an alien? Are you an alien? Why did she hit me? Why did she have you in a cage? How did you escape? Why did you save me? Where are we? Did you just get struck by lightning? How did you survive it? Are you a Sith?” He pauses to take several deep breaths panting for answers.
MDT: It’s OK about the Jedi Mind Trick. What’s harder to believe a blue-skinned lady or not carrying identification? ;D
Also, I forgot to roll Knockback Reduction. Would that have made a difference? Meaning, if she had to get up and move to me, would she have been able to attack? ”Uhhh.” Jack groans in pain. He unsuccessfully tries to find something on his body that is not in pain. He decides that he must be in a convertible or something and still disorientated from being hit by a blue bus. He cannot be flying of course. Before he attempts to open his eyes too wide, he reaches out with his feelings. Then, after he has recovered a bit, he pries open his eyes to the storm.
