Checking in.

I just messaged GM Shady about the game. I'm not hopeful of a response, as he doesn't seem to have been active on any paizo boards since late Oct, but it's worth seeing who's still around, just in case.

Is there still interest in keeping this game going?

If Shady doesn't respond, is there enough interest to try to scout out a new GM?

Is it just time to call it quits on this game? It seems like we've lost all of our momentum.

I'd be happy to give it another go, but we need to make it move if we're going to do it.

It was a trained-only heal check. Jarif doesn't have ranks to try.

Jarif deftly catches the ring and slips it on his own finger. "Garish indeed; that is my style. You get me, Ehlers, you really do." He flips the ring in the air and catches it, then slips it over his own finger. "I think we likely sell this later--and split the proceeds, of course--but somebody should wear it while we have it, anyway."

The old man then eyes the sarcophagus that Ehlers is using for a perch. "Shall we be better grave robbers than this one?"

"Oh wait, this isn't Kassen, is it? One of these?" He points from one sarcophagus to the other two, a question in his eye.

Jarif deftly slips the ring off the man's finger and grabs the bag of gold. He steps back, making room for Robilar to take a closer look, and steps over to Ehlers.

He looks to Ka'narg. "Lake's denizens? What's that mean. More of these frogs? And what could these coins have to do with it?"

Looking up at the elf resting on the sarcophagus, Jarif pinches the ring and pouch together between his thumb and forefinger, and holds them out in front of him. "Anything here magic? If these coins are cursed, we'll want to leave 'em behind."

All immediate threats gone, Jarif makes a final leap over to the last sarcophagus, then climbs down to kneel next to the body there. He examines it to see what he can learn.

Re: Ehlers' grapple, is there a connecting tongue to attack like there was with Haska?

The Rogue ponders striking the tongue, but eventually decides that killing the frog will achieve the same result. He swings in with both weapons from his elevated perch.

I have a new role at work that has me sitting in a different building, and it seems that the firewall is configured differently. I can read these boards, but can’t post to them. I’ll still be able to post from my phone, but it’s a lot harder to type a quality post without a proper keyboard. My posting between 8:00am – 5:30pm (US Eastern time) will go down because of this.

Jarif eyes the sarcophagus in front of him--rather, he eyes the gap between the two sarcophagi, anticipating the fall--and he leaps.

Acrobatics, slippery surface: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 5 = 15 (Backpack dropped and left behind, no ACP)

Welcome back! :)

Since the space on the sarcophogus next to Jarif is now empty of Haska (sorry Haska), can Jarif use his swift action to drop his backpack there, avoiding any water damage to the contents?

Jarif jumps as Haska is pulled from the sarcophogus, nearly stepping backwards into the water himself, but he catches himself in time. He focuses his full attention on the frog in front of him, swing both of his blades at the slimy beast. (Targeting C)

Thinking ahead here, what are the surfaces of the sarcophagi like? Would it be reasonable for Jarif to jump to the next one with a move action, or is he risking a slippery and painful fall?

Male Human Rogue (Unchained) 1 || AC 18 (T 15/Fl 13) || hp 10/10 || Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +6 Will +1 || Perception +5 (+6 to locate traps)

I assumed Jarif had to sheath his weapons to push the door open.

The rotted door gives way in a loose wet mess as Jarif give it one more powerful shoulder heave, nearly falling face first into the water, but catching himself on one knee before completely immersing himself in the standing water. Seeing the giant frogs begin to advance, the limber old man quickly climbs onto one of the sarcophogi in hopes that he can gain a height advantage. When he finds himself steady footing, he draws his masterwork short sword and the magical dagger.

Jarif doesn't say anything, but looks a little shamed. Damn it, he's right. Why's he got to be right?" He puts his shoulder to the door with the others.

Strength: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

If the door doesn't open through their efforts, he speaks up. "We may not be the best at this." He looks at Haska and Ka'narg. "I think we three might, combined, still be weaker than either of our friends."

"That seems fine to me; how can I help?" The old man looks with some concern as Robilar taps the fragile explosives hanging from his gear. Is it me, or is it crazy to walk around with explosives just draped from the body?

Jarif motions to everyone to quiet down and stand still briefly, and he cocks his head as he appears to be listening carefully. "Are those... frogs? Yes, they're frogs!" He begins chuckling as he looks around to see if he can see one, or otherwise identify the source of the noise.

Hearing Robilar's question, Jarif holds the last swallow of water in his mouth for a moment. He swallows. "It's almost a little sweet, I guess. Very refreshing. And I feel none of the pain of that last battle at all." He leans his head back down close to the water, and breathes deeply of the fresh, cool air near the surface.

He'll offer no objection to Robilar trying to take some along. I don't think it'll work, but if that kid can make this portable, we're in business--literally. Might have to discuss terms before this is done.

Jarif observes Haska's reaction to the water. "Based on the riddle, I'd guess that this is a safe place. The water should be clean, and may even be healing. But riddles are designed to mislead. Ehlers' caution may be right, rude though it may be."

Rude isn't the half of it. Back in my day…. Wait, how old have you gotten, man? Back in my day indeed—that elf is almost certainly older than you!

He's got a good eye for traps, and some good sense as well. That doctor's gonna make something of himself one day, though it may be more in exploration than medicine. Jarif agrees with the consensus, and continues with the others to the south. "Good thinking gents. South it is."

"Well, this all seems pretty basic to me. We've got this text on the ground, but that almost certainly relates to the damn 'quest' that they sent those folks on, and probably has not much to do with anything that *we're* concerned about." He points down the western passage. "Based on the smell, something nasty is down that way."

Male Human Rogue (Unchained) 1 || AC 18 (T 15/Fl 13) || hp 10/10 || Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +6 Will +1 || Perception +5 (+6 to locate traps)

Jarif gathers his things, rearranging his weapons once more so he's carrying his shortsword and the dagger Ka'narg gave him. "Skeletons. I'll be happy if I never see another one again. Give me something I can pierce instead.". He continues down the stairs with the others.

Vacation warning

This is an early heads-up that I will be on vacation from the 24th (Wed) PM (EST) through the 29th (Mon) PM. As before, I'm heading to a music festival, and as before, I expect there to be some level of internet access, though I don't know how reliable it will be or how distracted I will be. Posting may be sparse in that time. Please feel free to bot me if I'm holding things up. (I prefer it if you roll and confirm lots of criticals, and make sure that my sneak attacks hit their mark. Thanks!)

Male Human Rogue (Unchained) 1 || AC 18 (T 15/Fl 13) || hp 10/10 || Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +6 Will +1 || Perception +5 (+6 to locate traps)

Jarif looks around the room, seeing a battered but whole group of free, living people against the single remaining skeleton. He pauses and catches his breath while he waits for the skeleton to make a move.

Readied action to attack the skeleton if it enters a square that Jarif threatens.

Readied Action:

Femur bone, improvised: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Male Human Rogue (Unchained) 1 || AC 18 (T 15/Fl 13) || hp 10/10 || Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +6 Will +1 || Perception +5 (+6 to locate traps)

Blades do no good, but this stupid bone isn't doing anything either if I can't make it connect! Jarif eyes a position on the other side of the skeletons that might offer a small advantage, and he decided to take it. Without realizing he's speaking out loud, the old man mutters "Oh, this could really hurt...." before he launches himself through the gap between the two skeletons. (Moving 10' at half-speed to flank skeleton D with Ka'narg, Acrobatics to avoid AoOs.)

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 9 - 1 = 16 (-1 ACP)

He spins with a quickness that belies his age, and swings the femur in a crushing blow at the skeleton's head. (Attacking D)

Femur bone, improvised, flanking: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 + 2 = 22
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Critical threat: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 4 + 2 = 16
Critical damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Edit:
If only these things had vitals!

(I had it in my head that skeletons are immune to precision damage, but I'm wrong, aren't I? Just in case, here's my sneak attack damage.)

Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Male Human Rogue (Unchained) 1 || AC 18 (T 15/Fl 13) || hp 10/10 || Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +6 Will +1 || Perception +5 (+6 to locate traps)

Jarif grips the bone in his hand tightly as he swings for the remaining skeleton in front of him. (B, I think. Can't view Roll20 presently.)

Seeing the skeletons rise from the bone piles, Jarif simply groans. He sheathes his two swords (move action) and draws one of the femurs that he'd retained from the prior encounter (move-equivalent standard action). He steps forward 5' so as to create more room for maneuvering.

Jarif approaches the southern door to give it a look over. As he's bending down to take a closer look, he pauses and turns back a little sheepishly. "Uh, Robilar, do you want to, you know, see how I do this?" He waits for the doctor to approach, then goes through his routine, explaining what he looks for and where. He allows for questions and suggestions from Robilar as well.

Jarif watches the argument start to brew with some interest and some frustration. He clearly shares Ka'narg's urgency. Let's get this over with; I wasn't even looking for an adventure when I joined that caravan. I just wanted to see my birthplace again, maybe recharge some childhood memories. Calmly. But he understands Ehler's interest in resting as well. If it didn't involve verbally agreeing with that damn elf, I'd speak up too.

Jarif has no "/day" abilities that care about rest, and he's effectively healed up. He's ready to move on, but understands the need for a caster to rest and heal.

In pure timekeeping terms, what day and time of day is it? Is this actually a time when this group would be getting naturally tired?

Jarif seems a little surprised at Robilar's interest. "Umm, yes. Go ahead." He stands awkwardly as Robilar takes a look. "That with the pillar was nothing special really. Just thinking on my feet. Probably should have just closed the door on it and made a better plan, in retrospect." When Robilar also fails to find any traps, Jarif nods in agreement.

Turning to Ehlers, Jarif continues, speaking up to address the whole party. "Should we rest here? It won't take much to make sure that this room is safe for a bit, and this is as good a place as any, I suppose."

Jarif breathes a sigh of relief. "Okay, I've found better ways to have fun in my day. Why are we here again? Why am I here?!?" It's clear that these are cranky grumblings and that he doesn't expect an answer. He rubs his shoulder where the arrow hit, and rotates it a few times to regain full movement. "I think I'm going to be okay with this, but Ka'narg, you look like you took a beating there, and Ehlers, are you going to be okay back there?"

Jarif wants to give the room one more look to make sure he hasn't missed anything important.

Would the nature of this disable allow someone to hold one of those huge shields from the hallway in front of Jarif to protect him while he works?
