Most gracious. Thank you.

Lame, LOL. Not even the decency for have 1's so I can reroll. Ah, well.

@Tara Ravenheart - let me know if you wish to be connected or would rather skip it. We can work it out in PM if you'd like.

Thanks!

What if we were both forced to fight at entertainment in a large colosseum... poachers/slavers would round up people from the far reaches of the land.

Kind of like D&D Honor among thieves, sorta solidified it for me, just watched. Maybe we were on different teams until attrition brought us together (over months, maybe years).

Eventually, we escape.

Looks like joining a party of 3/4 with Sable.

I once had a similar concept, here is my list for deities that could work. As far as I know, they dont have established Paladin codes.

Thanks... realizing my concept (not just sneak paladin) is probably not the best for this table, with he current cast. And, there is also a very similar character submission, from a combat perspective.

But, thank you and GM_Coreyllon!

Have fun ALL!

Oh dang... I was thinking LG Half-Orc Paladin/Fighter or Brawler/uRogue... with Orc Hornbow... Aldori Dueling Sword & Unarmed Strike.

Range mostly, but also Diplomacy.

A little bit... picking and choosing class and archetype features.

Divine Hunter, Holy Guide, Sniper, Scout.

Is there an issue with a LG Divine Hunter (Paladin)... sniping? Using sneak attacks at range via stealth?

This is of course during a skirmish or military mission, not assassination.

Best wishes to all!

Update: I just realized GM TWO's main account is "The Wyrm Ouroboros" which makes my earlier question regarding the revolution to end all revolutions, both psychic and stoopid!

I'm your huckleberry...

Credit; In the classic Western movie “Tombstone” (1993) Val Kilmer, as Doc Holliday, says to Johnny Ringo, “I'm your Huckleberry, that's just my game.”

Wanted to share: Concept visual for Jared Thorne, credit: Marble Image. Adding Pass for Human, rounds the ears and subdue the tuskage.

The wait was probably some test of iron will and patience, and I've failed miserably.

Taking this a poignant quote and task:

"The strongest is never strong enough to be always the master, unless he transforms strength into right, and obedience into duty." - Rousseau

It's an elegant and virtuous cycle. Rebirth of a nation.

I always thought deniability should be, ehem... plausible.

Good luck to all and thank you to all!

Excuse me while I reconcile Rousseau and Nietzsche, think I need aspirin.

So, ironically or poetically... is the conspiracy meant to be the revolution that ends all revolutions?

Or more of an Ouroboros, snake eating its tail thing... where we perpetuate the cycle?

The politics and tradecraft is awesome, but I think I enjoy the philosophical aspects as well.

It's one of the reasons it was so challenging to create the right "renaissance" man as it were, at least my interpretation of it.

I find myself reading Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and also basing Jared's general outlook on his views, in a broad sense.

And, apparently I chose to start with the Noble Savage!

Rousseau Quotes:

  • Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains.
  • The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.
  • What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?
  • Absolute silence leads to sadness. It is the image of death.
  • Those that are most slow in making a promise are the most faithful in the performance of it.
  • Nature never deceives us; it is we who deceive ourselves.
  • People who know little are usually great talkers, while men who know much say little.
  • Happiness: a good bank account, a good cook, and a good digestion.
  • Childhood is the sleep of reason.
  • The strongest is never strong enough to be always the master, unless he transforms strength into right, and obedience into duty.

  • What about... "Fleur de Lis" as a masked persona name? Just having fun with it.

Might be too in their face?

    @GM TWO

Confirming that capital spending limits per settlement are per Day. So, if what I'm building exceeds the limit, that just means I couldn't build it in a day. If Rome Isarn wasn't built in a day...

Also, the room entry dictates how many days it takes to complete days construction. So, I could have multiple projects going on simultaneously.

However, even if one thing I was building was under the daily spend limit... It still needs a certain number of days to complete.

I could then divide total goods needed by that number of days to see how much I'm tracking vs. the daily limit (for each project).

A throne room would take 40 days and cost 1.5 capital towards the daily limit, for each of those 40 days.

Also, if we are not using Leadership (w/followers increasing spending limits, connections, favors)... Would we consider the number of people in one's teams as follows for this purpose? In Jared's case 27 employees or +13 daily spending limit.

I believe every 2 followers (employees) increases the daily spending limit by 1. With situational adjustments per GM.

Lastly, confirming Rooms and Teams give access to a type of labor, but one must still have the GP/money to buy it at the earned cost.

We'll know for the first time, if we're evil or divine. We're the Last in Line... - Dio

    Bonne chance, mes amis!

    @GM TWO

Thanks for your time and consideration, it's been a pleasure to discuss your game world and the ruleset.

I've done what I could, but I'm certain it's not perfect nor exactly what you may be looking for. I do offer Jared Thorne for your consideration.

Between skills, crafting (poppets and constructs anyone?) and combat which he'll grow into... Jared is ready to further the rebellion.

Building and Org took up about 70% of funds, his plan is to create a guild or some form of collective entity.

I wish you and your players, happy gaming!

    GM TWO wrote:

"If you take the building ..."

... which building? A fair amount of searching has turned up 'Mill', which does indeed indicate that it would be used for either wood (using big saws, whether vertical or rotary) or grain. But again, you need to pause for a second and consider not the product, necessarily, but the raw material which you would mill into usable wood for yourselves.

Sawmills do NOT work from lumber, but from timber, turning logs into lumber (rough planks); workshops then smooth the planks or not, as the project needs. Which means you would need a way to get the timber to your saws, and 'by wagon' is not typically the best way. Works if you have to, but not if there's a better way available ... and there is: the Kantele River. Which would provide power as well.

Just think it through, that's all. (And, I guess, label things that give options with what option you've chosen.)

    Yes, Mill.

I'd didn't have a visual of the geography or what may or may mot be allowed as far as placement and space available. It mentioned different mays to power the mill, animals or people... so I imagined a smaller affair, more bespoke and less industrial.

Being in the business of wagons and such, thought transport would be relatively easy to arrange. Especially, with some nifty engineering and magical modifications to a wagon :)

Increase load capacity structurally and help the horse team!

With your permission, if I'm selected... I can further the details in game. I've specifically left some cash in gp and liquid for flexibility.

Working on the background, but will need some sleep as well! Deadline is nigh! If you like the "bones" of the character, I'm happy to tweak at your discretion in-game.

Not trying to get away with anything... honestly, just running out of time. I think I garnered 83 skill points and still don't have as much as I'd like!

Oh heavens, it's 1:40 AM and I think your post woke me, a few minutes ago. I'll take it as a sign and stay up to work on the background.

    Superstition, damn thee!

Mill Room, my complete bad! I placed it next to the Artisan Workshop (rats, not workstation) because it's intended for wood, not grain. If you take the building, it mentions wood. The room, drops that from the description.

As carpentry is an important facet (to carriages, wagons, etc... along with leatherwork and smithing), they can process raw lumber. Making usable wood for themselves and supplying others, to some degree.

The carriage house is part inn, part cartwright/wainwright: including all the tack, harness, hardware, that comes along with that type of work for vehicles, animals (yokes, saddles, blinders, horseshoes, with).

And, yes! For the Inn... I have a spreadsheet breaking it down by room for a better/clearer understanding of earnings. Just worked on it today to make certain the business was self sufficient, once I had a rudimentary understanding of the ruleset. Needs some formatting.

I thought of adding a brewery, actually had it in there... but, decided to save starting cash, be more liquid (no pun intended) and would do that, in-game.

    But, I understand.

    HP levels 2-5: 10 + 4d10 ⇒ 10 + (6, 5, 10, 9) = 40

    I suppose that's 41? Plus 5 favored class HP, makes it 46.

That's always the scariest bit, for me.

Does this work for Buildings, Rooms, Teams? No managers yet, well except Gerard.

Hopefully it doesn't come across as over the top, but it's established and not going anywhere.

Serving business needs with integrity and professionalism.

Hysterical! My kids just decided on "The New Windsor Coach" diner for dinner... :)

The ABP was actually added quite late in the game, so the WBL didn't change. It's still full WBL. You could very easily spend 50/50. Some of us spend more than 50% on our organizations and still had plenty of cash to stock up on situational bonus items, glamored armor, and such.

Your crunch looks good too. I have to head to work so I don't have time to go back and look through the thread for your character build (background/personality). I noticed it hasn't been added in to the profile yet and that's the part of the submission that will have the most effect on selection.

Yes, feeding the background GM TWO helped me devise back into the profile, is part of the plan, as well!

Thanks for the quick check. If you see anything untoward... give a shout! I appreciate it.

Crunch is getting there in the profile, if anyone wants to take a look. I'm always open to constructive criticism.

With skill bonus stacking, I'm finding the build very layered... Meaning multiple situational bonuses, especially with favored enemy and community in the mix.

Items, Buildings and the math remain.

I remember reading that ABP was implemented to assist with Buildings and Orgs. So, using the half WBL guideline, could reasonably spend 50/50?

    GM TWO wrote:
Two things. First, understand that if there's a 'lineage' -- and money in the family -- people will treat you differently anyhow. This does not mean it wouldn't work with the racial trait, but it does mean that 'playing to type' would necessarily be a bit more over-the-top, in one way or another. Second, while yes, the attitude would extend to social conflicts and the like (as appropriate for the skill, and going by the rules of the system), winning such situations in public in anything but the most buffoonish manner would, after a while, basically eliminate the advantage; if you play 'dumb orc' but frequently win contests of wit and knowledge, you're no longer 'overlooked'.

My apologies, I had imagined it would be a short answer (learned my lesson!), and hadn't meant for you to go looking. I was however grateful for the link.

As to the the Half-Orc bit:

If I were to argue the matter, I'd start by saying GM Purview trumps RAW...

But, I assigned a heavy emphasis to the word "stereotype" (not individual or reality of an individual) and to the fact that the trait replaces Intimidating and Orc Ferocity and Weapon Familiarity (listed as offense).

So the individual isn't necessarily brutish or bestial or aggressive, but his half breed status groups him into an expected stereotype, un- or sub-consciously (on the part of the opponent). I wouldn't think he has to be buffoonish or appear dim-witted.

He understands biases and plays to them.

To your point about once he's won a verbal duel or does well in social conflicts... How is that different than the opponent being beat by anyone else? If someone is wary, their Sense Motive is high, it shouldn't be specific to an individual.

There could be some situational bonus modifier for the target, GM discretion?

If they have favored enemy human or orc, something against merchants, sure.

Dang it, I argued!!! No, no!

If you think it will be a huge point of contention, I'll find something else.

I believe what puts a spotlight on it is, it's a unique campaign and a unique rare build... The synergies are great, like a Paladin or Channeling Cleric in an Undead campaign. Or a Barbarian in a heavy combat campaign.

I am paying attention and he's tailored to further the conspiracy and topple the powers that be. And, he will only get better - more focused and better equipped to do just that.

This is what I came here to do
I walk that wire and I take that step
Won't look down got no regrets
Won't look down got no regrets

    [Chorus]
    I was made for this
    I was made for this
    Born in the wild
    Formed in the fire
    Built for the battle
    I was made for this

I'd expected a "What the heck were you thinking?!" I didn't get that, so I'll consider it progress and keep going.

I do remember your mention of Overlooked Mastermind being something where the target would need to know the Half-Orc was indeed a Half-Orc such that they would treat them as stereotypical and with a prejudice of sorts, let their guard down, etc...

I would think that is fair. An underestimation of a lineage. "Whatever trappings, he's just a..."

I apologize in advance, may have missed it!

    @GM TWO

Seems we are more or less aligned on a plausible background for Jared, thanks for your help there.

Was there more you wanted me to address before I move onto the crunchy bits?

I’m starting to see your campaign world as the immovable object (rather well defined/structured), and I feel the need to aspire to the irresistible force (perpetual navigation of it)! Let’s have a blast!

Enjoying the process, no matter the outcome.

Understood regarding side quests, identities and Conspiracy.

I suppose I was asking about the trust between vigilante chosen (when Aspiring Sidekick is taken) and Sidekick (Jared). Or if Judge & Jury is chosen, possibly more than one vigilante.

    @GM TWO

I like it, and somehow I'm imagining Sam Elliott in Road House with Patrick Swayze... But, that's neither here nor there.

    Movie Trailer.

Works rather well! I'm down with that! Thank you for taking the time.

My next topic, if I may continue:

I'm torn between Former Noble just kidding, Historian of the Red Revolution ("w-t-f is going on here?") and Aspiring Sidekick ("let's get out there and make a difference - secretly!").

I guess what I'm really wondering is does either mean side quests?

If Historian ot RR, sleuthing, spying and pilfering type escapades?

If Aspiring Sidekick, will there be outings together or alone?

And how do vigilantes work in the game, is it a "ride or die" type thing or do you have to worry about being ratted out? The one that got me thinking is Judge and Jury.

Or is it assumed that you've stopped azz-kicking or collecting info?

    @GM TWO

    What if...:
Jared upon arrival in Galt, tracks Gerard Nisroc to an abandoned property, that been derelict for years, having been seized, ransacked, burned down to the stone walls, at least what was left of them and vandalized. It's where the trail ran cold.

Finding a familiar trinket, in the rubble... the tiniest and simplest green lantern charm on a simple iron chain. Gerard’s necklace. Jared takes it as a sign and buys the property and starts to restore it.

It's a labor of love, and soon starts to take shape, a rustic but handsome main structure facing the street with a welcoming circular cobblestone drive.

It’s not long before Jared realizes he needs money to maintain the place and starts to sell his services repairing wagons. A simple fire pit served as a forge until a proper one could be built. Money started to flow in, slowly at first.

But, the artist in him reached out to contacts in Qadira, and he started to import various fine sands. Small amounts, but he could then blow colorful glass... it was an outlet in contrast to the austere city, where you couldn’t grow flowers or wear silks.

It was during that early time that he discovered the secret compartment, impossibly hidden... but, looking back it almost felt as he he’d placed it there. Gerard had trained him, after all.

Jared could hardly tear himself from the reading, documents, journals, manuscripts, ledgers and notes. He recognized the handwriting on some, mostly the notes. Names, dates, times. Through these writings, as he pieced them together, he walked in his father’s shoes... he experienced this place, as Gerard knew it.

“To understand a thing, is to love a thing.” - Gerard Nisroc

In some impossible way, Isarn and Galt, they seeped into his bones and permeated his being and become home.

Knowing what he now knew, changed everything. It was important, this knowledge. Important enough to... die for, or at least vanish for. It was important to Gerard, and that was good enough. He would take the baton and run this to the bitter end.

In subtle ways, as only Gerard Nisroc had ever taught him... he began to fight for the people. Jared began to watch, listen to, and more importantly to feel the people of Isarn. It was an empathy he’d practiced since childhood, and some responded.

Slowly the business grew, adding services and the selling of good all centered around helping commerce, trade and transport. Carts, wagons, carriages, tack, harness, stables... and little by little, the modest business becomes The Green Lantern Carriage House & Bath.

    It’s now 4 years later.

    A little better?

    @GM TWO

Thanks for the feedback, chop chop.

You're absolutely right, the background is choppy and I was going for "flashbacks" as a device to put a skeleton in place, a framework.

The alias is not updated, and I should have at least emptied it.

What I was going for, was to put enough structure behind the idea to get a greenlight to fill in further details, a gating process perhaps.

Mostly, looking to make sure that the way back background was acceptable and that the merchant idea was not out of bounds.

If those two things are a, "You may proceed" I'll get working on the mechanics and details. Otherwise, I'd be building on a house of cards.

If there is anything you patently do not like, please let me know so that I can adjust, as I move forward.

And, if there is anything you do like or would like to see developed in a particular direction, let me know as well.

I appreciate your time and patience. Have a great day and happy gaming!

Hey guys and gals, can't we all get along?

By the way, interacting with GM TWO during character creation is exactly collaboration, but he's the thought leader, creative head or scrum master of you prefer a technical bent. He's sharing the requirements, seeding ideas and removing obstacles.

Been knocking around ideas, GM TWO scared me with blacksmith and glazier... I was thinking just that, the morning he posted. And thought, "No, no, no... that's my idea!"

Running with it anyway, slightly differently.

Also, you had me at Phoenix Guards! Steven Brust is a favorite.

For your dissection, I submit an idea. But, I will disclaimer it with although I do not believe I've taken any liberties (pun intended) "in" Galt after establishing the business, years ago.

I have taken some creative license in the time period before Jared arrives and in the establishing of his business - his background, which should be fair - you'll tell me if it's not.

For the purposes of this campaign, Gerard Nisroc can be a story hook, a contact or nothing at all - no evidence of him in Isarn, so far.

It's an alias of mine, 13th level Knife Master Rogue, from Council of Thieves AP. His campaign trait was Enemy of Slavers. I mention this only to give an idea of what the man Jared looks up to might be like. CoT may never have occurred in "this" world.

He could be dead, killed by anyone including the Grey Gardeners, totally up to you. My preference is he remain NG, if alive.

Background, Out of the Frying Pan:
    Gerard Nisroc.

He’s the reason I’m here. I’d have died a long time ago, as a runt half-breed child, in a slaver’s hold.

Slave. I was born in captivity, into slavery... How I have gotten here is impossible.

"Your impossible is simply what you've never dared imagine, once imagined... it's but a task that needs be done." - Gerard Nisroc

I traveled with him for years, from my time as a child to young adulthood. The changes came fast, but he did his best to prepare me. Some changes were to be expected like culture shock and growing pains. Others changes were from the blue; the ability to harness and wield arcane energies.

We adjusted, he was good at that and taught it at every moment. It seemed as if something “bad” would happen on a regular basis and I’d be affected, getting depressed or angry. He’d ask why it was bad and how we could incorporate it into our plans... or better yet, use it to our advantage.

The lessons never stopped, being a student of life he called it. Watching how things worked, trade, organizations, individuals... magic. Be patient enough to study the situation, understand the circumstance, identify the actions available and evaluate the consequences.

A man alone, must rely on few and trust even fewer. Conserve his energy, releasing force at the moment of maximum impact and maximum force only to end the transaction. Exhaustion will follow and you must replenish, sleep. Sleep is a weapon.

Life, Freedom and Beauty - in that order. And, find the time to love, you’re a handsome young man, with a big heart and keen sense of self. Hide as you might, the ladies... the good ones, will see it.

But then one day, Gerard said he was headed to Galt. He arranged my travel to Qadira and gave me some money, asking me to forget about him. That was nearly ten years ago, and it took me five years to get here.

The ceiling could only reveal so many secrets, so Jared rose from bed and walked over to the window... pulling back the curtain, he surveilled the waking populace of Isarn.

People, moving about their daily tasks, on foot or by horseback, some carts and wagons, a carriage. People should really take care of their vehicles and conveyances, at least for the sake of the animals.

He’d never stayed this long in one place, inadvertently it had become home. But, still... no sign of his father.

    The Merchant and Servant Leadership:
Proprietor of the Green Lantern Carriage House & Bath.

Purchased as a fixer up’er, this defunct carriage house has been converted into a simple inn and depot, where travelers and teamsters can have their animals, vehicles and tack tended to why they rest in modest, no frills material comfort. Service, however is personal and attentive.

The property consists of a large carriage house (currently the inn) and a large plot of land behind it, yard, outbuildings. Probably near the docks/wharf if there is a waterway for trade or near a main road, but towards the outskirts.

The “inn” serves quality comfort food in generous portions, stews, soups, simple grilled meats, cheeses and breads with a limited variety of beer and wine. Honest food, good value. Travelers spread the word, that's the idea.

A creative, builder and artist at heart - Jared is proud to show off some of his glasswork for sale in the public area do the inn. After all, the green lantern was made by his very hands.

Out back, there is a smithy and leatherwork station; a small glassworks is under construction, but currently operates out of the forge area, heat being a common element. These are the lifeblood services that the keep the staff busy with work coming in from local businesses that appreciate the quality and attention to detail.

Note: acquaintances may go as high up as a steward of this estate or that manner, perhaps a groundskeeper for this organization or that church, but the relationship is transactional if appreciative. Jared tries not to meddle with the upper class.

The operation shares work with the competition, when there is too much or he is under staffed. Jared is not cheap or petty.

He's a connector, not needing to hold every relationship or profit from every connection. But he does connect people, in possible collaboration. As such, his advice is valued by some.

Philanthropy - he will help people, soft spot for women and children due to his own past. He will let kids hang around, learn, apprentice, do odd but legal jobs. He's not forgotten where he's from.

    Great advice, Lilli! Thank you!

Not certain, if this belongs here... But, what the heck.

I was thinking building/opening trade routes or at least stabilizing them... way stations, shrines (oasis) where needed. A network for travel, transport, information. Between cities, and a couple far reaching foreign ones (used by caravans). He doesn't need to travel outside of Galt, himself.

Lends itself to a delivery service, porters, wagons, accountants... anything to facilitate trade and transport. Infrastructure. Perhaps a souk or bazaar.

There will probably be a charitable side, feeding and clothing the poor, helping them find employment and soft spot for kids. I 97% of the time play NG.

But, his premium trade businesses may specialize in luxury goods - wines, textiles & haberdashery. Giving him an in with nobles. "Jared will surely have something! He can always find something perfect! Remember..."

    Build wise:
    Urban Ranger 5
Impossible Sorcerer 3 - Knife Master Rogue 2

Should make for a somewhat exotic cosmopolitan dilettante and consummate crafter, who when push comes to shove... becomes a deadly operator.

    Most kind, thank you!

    A formidable group... Enjoy!

    GM Phntm888:
The Sczarni's focus on less violent crimes such as robbery, pickpocketing, and confidence schemes were tolerable to Jared's conscience... No one was getting hurt, for the most part.

He justified his part by thinking he was a smoother operator than most, kinder, less cruel. He liked the brotherhood aspect, belonging... Even if it was, a gang of sorts.

But the better and more successful he got, and the more he attracted the bosses' attention... especially with his excellent knifework, he was ultimately asked to "take care" of someone.

It wasn't something he could stomach or live with and he further realized, he was being used as a weapon and probably a scapegoat, as non-Sczarni.

He respectfully declined. And then he had to fight for his freedom, when they came after him... The same boys that were his "brothers," but that was to be expected. He let them live...

But the message was clear, forget about me and I'll forget about you. That's as close as they would come to leaving well enough alone.

With Gorvi, he was licking his wounds. He was a scrapper, sifting through garbage... Gorvi's boys. It was mind numbing, but peaceful enough. Gorvi never fully accepted him, a runt of a Half-Orc. But, he knew he was street smart and listened to his sage advice.

The tenured boys got jealous, especially because he was a Half-Orc.

So ultimately, it started reminding him of the Sczarni. False brotherhood, rivalry, pettiness... A focus on the ugly side of life.

And, one thing he did not tolerate was being bullied. So when the bullies came, he fought back and had to leave. Tight lipped, he ratted none out to Gorvi. And, Gorvi was bewildered as to his leaving.

Finally he was noticed, "found" by... Father Zantus who saw through Jared's past and current circumstance. Recognizing a diamond in the rough.

All he ever wanted was experience life, freedom and beauty.

Returning with the mantle of Warpriest of Desna, is a surprise to all save Father Zantus.

In some sense it makes him untouchable to Sczarni toughs and Gorvi's Boys alike. But, for the more ambitious... It may place a target upon his back.

    Something like that might work.

I'm not totally sure but the presence of the Orc Hornbow in PF2 may cause me to immediately reconsider ever playing or running PF2 :-(.

Orc Hornbow AND Gravity bow in the initial Core would almost certainly push me over the edge. One thing that I'm hoping is that it will at least take a couple of years before Power Creep becomes an issue. No smiley.

I didn't even know about that weapon until about two weeks ago. I do try to be effective, but typically prefer RP over OP.

No time like the present! Let's do this thing!

I'd think tweaks are fine, they can't possibly make a change big enough to kill a character concept?

Besides it's interesting to see what everyone did and how it compared to the official result.

Sounds doable, twice a day... Heavy RP? Probably not... But, to keep action moving and die rolls tumbling, sure.

    25 pt Buy? 30? :)

    Crafting?

Oh? I'd taken the ghost ship as more metaphysical.

Hungry Ghost Monk/Rogue, I think... Not sure if 20pt buy will be enough.

So, were we higher level when we originally "passed"? I can't see second level folks grabbing the attention of a major Goddess, then again... Her attention should be infinite.

We going for a "Legion of the Damned" vibe?
