"We...succeeded," Jaiyana responds, a hint of a smirk gracing her lips.

"We aren't going to have to go back down into the sewer's again, are we?" Jaiyana asks with mock exasperation when discussing the goblin. She is impatient and doesn't want to sit idle for long, and the mayor's commentary renewed her convictions- just thinking of the sloth makes her blood boil. "The stink is just starting to come out of my coat from the last time; I wear quilted armor, your know. I can't just rinse and oil it. Would it really would be too much to ask for goblins to take up residence in a nice roadside inn?"

"I agree. But how do we know how much belongs to whom?" Jaiyana concurs after inspecting the small chest (and revealing the results of her search to her companions, of course). "Perhaps this will give use a clue; mayhaps Belagio was the orderly sort," she finishes motioning to the locked ledger. The warrior slides a couple of picks from pockets in her leather armor and sets to work on the lock.

Disable Device:
If we are in no particular rush Jaiyana would take 20 for a total 28 on picking the lock with a couple minutes of work.

Jaiyana's eyes widen at the sight of so much coin gathered in one place and angrily thinks of the method used to collect it, and nearly gags at the sight of the eyes. She is no stranger to violence and bloodshed, but the decaying eyes were simply a disgusting sight. As the Viscount inspects the chest's magical properties, the ranger moves to carefully search it for traps.

Still here. I've been kept busy with work and studying for GED tests, so I've been a bit scarce, but not gone.

Jaiyana remained silent throughout the exchange, keeping her flail in hand and paying careful attention to their foes, but turns to the Viscount after seeing him interact with the bandits and use his magic trick. "I enjoy your company more with each passing moment," she comments matter-of-factly.

Wow; 20 new posts since I've had a chance to check. It's been a busy couple of days for me. I'll be able to catch back up tomorrow at work and will probably need to make a bit of use out of the good, old, reliable flex-time.

Jaiyana's d20 rolls this combat, in order: 1 (counting the pre-fight Perception check), 3, 2, 19, 2, 7, 4, 5 (one of these things is not like the others). It is not her day.

Feeling better after the magical healing Jaiyana is ready to re-enter the fray. She sees that Lucon and Enko are engaged with the majority of the remaining foes and makes a quick decision to clear the field of the final archer before moving to assist. The ranger moves toward the bow-wielding bandit and draws a vial of alchemist's fire as she goes, hurling it toward her foe.

Move action: Draw a weapon-like object while moving 15' to 20' so there is a vacant 5'-square between Jaiayana and the archer.
Standard action: Throw splash weapon.

Attack against touch AC:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10; damage:1d6 ⇒ 3

*Sigh.* Well if nothing else he needs a DC 15 Reflex save to avoid 1 point of fire damage.

If Jaiayana would have had a move action left, would it be okay if I had her stow her heavy flail? If it is too late to retcon it I will just drop it when I post her round 9 action.

Jaiyana gives a grateful nod to the Viscount as the potion bobs near her. She snatches it out of the air and gulps it quickly down, feeling the worst of her injuries numb and heal with miraculous speed.

Move action: Grab potion.
Standard action: Drink potion.

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8; awesome, back in the saddle!

GM Mug:
Yes; it'll put more ground between her and Belagio and keep her out of melee long enough to heal up reasonably. Hopefully the fighting defensively will minimize damage from incoming AoOs and her round 8 action will be something other than coughing up blood. :)

Once Jaiyana gets out of the thick of it I'm going to have her fall back to using nets, chakram, and alchemical fires at least until she is back up to 1/2 hp. She has a better ranged to hit anyway and does solid damage with a thrown weapon. Nets only swing at touch AC and entangles, meaning a penalty to CMD and CMB as well as the -2 to hit and AC. If there is any you want to lock down with trips, grapples, and so forth, let me know and I'll try to net them.

Round 7:
Sorry; I've been distracted.

"Why...won't...you...die!?" Jaiyana spits at the bandit before her, breathing heavily. The pain of her many small wounds and the weight of her armor and flail begin to wear on her. Belagio's voice breaks her concentration on the foe at hand, and causes her to snap out of her tunnel vision, realizing that she is in no condition to battle three men at once, let alone the leader himself. She sets her flail spinning one more time, trying to fell at least one of the two men before her, drawing herself back defensively.

Standard action: Attack same target with Combat Expertise and fighting defensively:1d20 ⇒ 4

Her shoulder's sag as another blow falls short. She glances to her allies, and starts backing toward Amon and Coreleous, looking for stength in numbers.

Move action: Move 20 ft. toward allies.

Undetered by her previous, clumsy swing, Jaiyana pivots and spins, using her momentum to send the heavy, spiked ball at the end of her flail toward the axe-wielding foe's side.

Jaiyana grits her teeth as the club collides with her shoulder- even with the extra padding from the armored coat the blow struck hard. She snarls at her attacker, eyes full of rage and promising a painful end, but her attention is quickly drawn to a second foe besieging her, one's whose axe appears far more dangerous than a heavy chunk of wood. In a fluid motion the ranger draws her heavy flail and drops into a defensive stance as she brings it down atop her enemy.

Move action: Draw heavy flail.
Standard action: Atttack "Bandit 2" with Combat Expertise.

Players:
Mage armor doesn't provide any protection above and beyond the coat, though, it just nixes penalties. Between Jiayana getting it or the Viscount having another offensive spell at his disposal, she would vote for the latter. I'm debating between buying a couple of potions of shield of faith, masterwork studded leather, or saving money for a mithril shirt. In any event the money is going to be going toward AC. Any suggestions?

Viscount Corneleous Ornelos:
Mage armor would provide Jaiyana all of the protection of her armored coat without the ACP and speed reduction (but those won't be a problem in most situations). Ekno could probably make the best use of it, though. But offense is the best defense, as they say...

Flex Time

The ranger's expression softens as she leaves the actor to his business, knowing her ire got the better of her for a moment. "I didn't mean to cause trouble for your family, but that ass shouldn't be praised for his ignorance and have his haughty attitude catered to. Men like your uncle won't have to endure such treatment for long. If and when you do decide to give Ulvauno a good strike; let me know," Jaiyana huffs. "I can hit very hard." With that she departs, embarrassed for herself and hoping she didn't cause too much damage to Jacovo's business.

Flex Time

"If you don't lend an animal to this man now, in 6 months time I'll purchase all of your horses," Jaiyana says to the stable-owner, never taking her eyes from the pompous actor, fists clenched at her side to prevent them from shaking with anger. She forces words out, as much to spite Ulvauno as to spare the horses. "All of them. At double value. You'll be able to take a well needed vacation, and perhaps even retire early," she swallows hard as she makes the offer. Even selling all she owned at that moment she couldn't hope to come close to the amount she'd need, that much she knew, despite being blinded by her growing rage. "You certainly won't need to rely upon any contracts signed by those who would consider this boy an authority on the matter."

But Jaiyana knew that now she that she had actively fought against Hellknights and won more than once; a deeper conflict would be brewing, and the value of the grunts' gear alone was great. If things continued along their current course she would be able to make good on that promise, or, quite literally, die trying.

The ranger decided long ago that she wanted to protect the trod upon citizens of Cheliax. Jacovo met that description. Ulvauno didn't. He was a petulant child.

Flex; after the Viscount walks out.

Jaiyana bristles when Ulvauno makes mention of bloodying and using the already haggard horses, forcing them to suffer like slaves. She narrows her eyes. "These horses have already been ridden hard and have more than earned their rest. You shall not hurt them nor any beast of burden. Other horses will do." The ranger does her best to sound authoritative while avoiding insults, lest she make her actions worse. She glances to Jacovo apologetically. "How much are you being paid for the use of these proud creatures?"

Jaiyana raises an eyebrow skeptically as Thesing speaks, and cocks her head toward Enko as if to ask who is this clown, but manages to bite her tongue and remain silent, lest it call negative attention to their band so soon after springing Arael with needless sarcasm, allowing the Viscount his pleasantries. Though she hadn't heard of this particular man he was obviously one of the unfortunate by-products of the ailing society she was working to cure.

Flex Time

"Lucon is probably right, Tavi; Janiven asked us to slay as few as possible and I'm not in the business of killing the defenseless. Nor showing mercy, which is certainly what a quick death here would bring these men. The Hellknights will be punished worse for their failure by there superiors than a blade to the throat, and they brought it upon themselves. With some luck it may lead them to re-examine their life choices. Doubtful," Jaiyana says, not taking an active roll in either restraining or freeing the halfling from the carpenter's grip.

Jaiyana stabilized the Hellknights partly because Janiven asked the group not to kill many but didn't want to pull punches (-4 to hit is a pain at this level), and partly because she is a bit mean concerning Hellknights and expected the punishment from their superiors for such an embarrassing failure to be worse than whatever she was willing to do. If Tavi went wound around slitting throats Jaiyana wouldn't be particularly happy with it, but would neither protest nor join in; choosing to abide by an ally's decision rather than defend the Hellknights.

Jiayana quietly nods her thanks to the monk and unstoppers a potion, downing it and letting it heal her recent injuries. 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 She winces slightly as the last of her gashes and bruises knit in seconds.

"You are correct, Arael. Had we tarried any longer you would be irrevocably within the Hellknight grasp," the ranger states matter-of-factly as she shrugs off her armored coat and draws the picks and probes from her belt pouch, setting to work on the manacles. "But do not worry yourself. To my knowledge all we've met and heard of are indeed safe, but if we don't hurry soon we may not be."

Seeing the Hellknight's wounds as grievous yet survivable Jaiyana grimly nods to herself. It was an embarrassing defeat for them; they'll be none to pleased. She wanders to her thrown chakram and retrieves them, wiping the blood and gore on the nearest soldiers' garb, giving a fleeting glance to the fleeing warrior. "Coward," she mutters, but lets him run. He won't be getting anywhere quickly and his superiors will surely punish him worse than Jaiyana's flail upside his skull. After gathering her weapons she heads beside the carriage to aid with the disposal of any guards left inside.

I love martial arts movies. Drunken Master is awesome. Hero is pretty good. 5 Deadly Venoms is sweet (but the sequel is terrible). Of course their is Crouching Tiger. Forbidden Kingdom is a solid american one...damn it! Enko, you need to teach Jaiyana kung fu so she can take a level of monk! ;P

"The blood or the bodies?" Jaiyana responds. "I'm fine thanks to Amon. And most of them will live; with something to think about in the future," she says, bending down to stem the flow of blood from the last she felled (assuming he is still alive). "This was a lesson well worth teaching." As she tended to the man's great wounds (caused by none other than herself) it struck her that she never expected that she'd be providing first aid to Hell Knight scum.

Heal (DC 15): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Then she will move to the next nearest (likely HK 4) and work on saving that one: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Jaiyana winces as her many wounds knit and heal in an instant; she feels cracked ribs mend and bruises disappear, and makes mental note of how she will never get used to such magics. With a growl through gritted teeth the ranger brings down her flail with all her might atop the standing foe before her.

Standard action: Attack with Combat Expertise and Power Attack.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 1 = 18; Damage: 1d10 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 3 = 15

Jaiyana hisses through her teeth and reels with pain, trying to keep a cool head for battle despite her terrible wounds, knowing the surest way to prevent for would be to end the battle quickly. She drops into a defensive posture and sets her flail spinning in a wide circle to keep her foes attacks at bay, taking a quick swipe when she can.

"You're just mad that I slew your friend, aren't you?" She spits at the duo who just attacked her.

Standard action: Fight-defensively with Combat Expertise, attacking the one that Jaiayan already wounded.

Attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1; Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

@ Tavi: I think you and I are declaring for the 3rd round.

I know Round 2 still needs to finish resolving, but my action is pretty much going to stay the same no matter what happens (unless circumstances become pretty brutal).

Round 3:
AC 17 or 18 (see below); hp 22/22

If no Hellknight has moved to threaten Jaiyana, she'll stick with what has been working:

Jaiyana spins her body again, releasing another bladed disc in one graceful pirouette, drawing another before the motion is complete, every fluid movement of her form carefully planned.

Standard action: Throw 3rd chakram at next nearest open foe.
Move action: Draw 4th chakram.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14; Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

If a foe has moved to threaten Jaiyana:

The young woman drops her chakram and reaches behind her, gripping the haft of her heavy flail with such force her knuckles whiten. She brings it down atop her foe in a wild overhead chop, eyes full of rage, in an effort to wound and off balance her enemy.

Free action: Drop 3rd chakram.
Move action: Draw heavy flail.
Standard action: Attack with Combat Expertise.

That and my Dex is higher than my Str; though both are fairly average for a warrior. I haven't really planned much of the character out yet, though. I want to pick up the Vital Strike line when meeting the prerequisites since I started with less than amazing physical modifiers (I don't see my iterative attacks hitting often with Combat Expertise and/or Power Attack active) so other than that I have a lot of room to develop organically.
