Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

I hate to do this, but I think Im going to drop out of the game. I received a promotion at work recently, and it has me far busier than my previous position did, taking up nearly all of the time I can post, and it doesnt show any sign of slowing down.

Ive had a lot of fun with this game, but even when do I manage to have a free minute or two to post, I find myself in a 'blah' mood towards catching up on what all has happened since I last posted.

Good luck with the game, and if you are ever going to be in Southern Illinois and want to try out of a game of Pathfinder Society, let me know and I'll try to get something together for you!

Jacyn/Seth

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

When the giggling begins, Jacyn reaches for the hilt of his cold iron morningstar, but releases it once the group fairies* make it known they are only here to help, not play tricks.

*I dont even remember what these were, actually. Were they fairies?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

"His name is Doktor Zlotii, and appears to be of some distant relation to Havrin. And yes, I think he intends to come with us. Probably a good thing, too, since Sabrina is wanting to stay at the temple once we drop her off."

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

As the group packs their thigns and prepares to leave, Jacyn's gaze lingers on Katya, unsure if he should go speak to her about the events of the night before. If she catches his gaze, he immediately looks away, embarassed.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

That sounds fine to me, too.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Jacyn looks over to Havrin, "We come all the way out here, and you run into a distant relative?"

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Jacyn nods in agreement with Havrin's idea. "That could be a good idea. I might not be of much help, though." the halfelf says with a chuckle, nodding his head over in the direction of Smoke. "He and I are none too sneaky."

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Awesome!

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Great! Now I've done it! She must hate me for embarassing her like that! Jacyn thinks to himself when Katya turns away. He looks over towards Adam and Havrin with a look that is a combination of Did I do something wrong? and What do I do now?

The half-elf resumes eating, feeling a bit dejected about the whole situation, though he does feel a little better about it when he catches Katya glancing his way once, though he tries to act like he doesnt notice.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Sorry, lol. Completely forgot to post.

Jacyn swallows the large mouthfull hard. Feeling the eyes of the others on him, his face turns a little red before he turns to face the woman again, "Yeeeees?" he says slowly, dragging the word out, unsure if that is the right answer. He says it with one eye closed already, as if preparing to be slapped.

---

Only if there is no response within about a second of the first half

Assuming Katya doesn't immediately hit him and storm off, he opens his closed eye, facing her more fully and says more firmly, "Yes. Very."

Katya turns her head slightly and half-whispers to Jacyn, attempting to have a personal conversation with the half-elf at the dinner table, "So... why do you care about what I think of the Gods?"

Startled by the sudden turn in conversation, Jacyn leans in and replies, also whispering, "Well, um, a couple reasons, I guess. At this point I don't know how I feel about them, but followers of Erastil seem to be in great supply out here, especially within our group. I don't know if he has anything planned for me, but I definitely felt something when we were at the statue. I don't know what, but something was there.

Since you seemed to be so anti-worship, I couldnt help but be curious why, since I'm still unsure about my own feelings. You are the best one to get a glance from the other side of the coin.
And, um, I guess cause the look on your face when you were talking about them was really ugly, and I would hate to see that look become permanent, causing wrinkles or something...er...not that you have wrinkles now, or that you're ugly. Far from it. You're quite beautiful, actually. I...um..."
Jacyn turns back towards the center of the table, taking the opportunity to shove his mouth full of food before he can re-lodge his foot in it.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Questions:

How much did we wind up getting for the good quality pewter drinking stein, silver ring, jade nude-elf plaque, and scroll tube?

I'm assuming no one had issues with selling all of that?

Didnt Katya some kind of side quest going on with some NPC about finding a certain number of berries or something like that that caused us to fall all over ourselves in a thorn bush? What happened with that?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

When Katya takes her place next to him, Jacyn moves in his seat. He gives the impression of getting more comfortable in his place, but moves imperceptively closer to the red-headed woman.

He waits til he is done with his mouthful of food before responding to the conversation, "I agreee. The longer we wait, the more time we give them to prepare for our inevitable arrival. I think we should head out sooner rather than later and bring the fight to them."

I love the Pit spells. Whenever I get a chance to take another feat, remind me to try to take something that helps with Bullrush, so I can try to knock people into them. >:D

You've been out here a bit less than two months, by my count. Exploiting resources should still be taking a back seat to exploration/pacification; no one's going to come out and mine for gold until the bandits have been suppressed.

Good point.

ETA: I thought healing during combat was one of those things you weren't supposed to have to do; at least, that's what I get from some of the discussions about it on the boards :-).

Not normally, but it depends on the situation. For instance, if Havrin is the only effective party member in a combat situation cause he is able to overcome the DR of the opponent and the rest of us arent, then it makes more sense for someone to heal Havrin than to sit around being useless. :P

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

That works for me, but how will that put us for new areas to explore once we finish with those? Will we be in the middle of a giant patch of land with nothing but explored land around us?
Also, do we want to see about establishing any other settlements out here/build on to the fort/start digging up the gold mine/anything else?

Bea wrote:

Until level 4 my healing will be pretty limited, and even then I'll be WAY behind what an actual cleric could do. Honestly I'm pretty sure Adam has more actual healing capacity just casting CLW than I do.

That said, two backup healers might make up for not having one main healer. Especially if we manage to find a wand of CLW somewhere.

As far as Oladon goes, I've still been trying to encourage her to come up with something but don't have anything yet. Oladon, if you're reading this and still haven't read the Player's Guide, go read it now!

IMO two backup healers can definitely cover for the lack of a main healer, but only outside combat. If things go badly during a fight and we need someone to heal up in the middle of the fight, two backup healers, even with CLW wands, wont do the trick.

I vote we find another player, whether it's Oladon or not.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Oh, oops! Ah well, I still dont see a reason to not share the info with him, so we may as well.

Garess actually came out here a little after you did.

Wasnt he one of the bandits from the first set who raided the fort?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

"That's a mighty generous offer. We'll do our best to bring him back to you one way or another."

Jacyn proceeds to fill him in on the rest of the groups goings on, including the dead unicorn, thinking to himself, Garess has been out here longer than we have. He may have some valuable insight into some of these strange events.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Jacyn informs Garess of every instance in which the part encountered a person of any sort, living or dead, inscluding the hunter who they thought might be a werewolf, going into as much detail as he can about the relative location of each encounter and how things went from there.

So to refresh my memory, I think we found bodies with the tatzylworms, the run in with the living bandits, and then the werewolf guy, right? Am I missing any?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Assuming that Oleg gives Jacyn a positive review of Kesten...

Jacyn offers Kesten a seat by him on one of the benches. "I'm happy to see things seem to going smoothly around here. Tell me, has there been any run-ins with any more bandits in the area? Any news of such?"

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Thanks, lol. If everything goes like I think and hope it will, I should get my 5th star around the end of the year. November, maybe December.

I dont want the scale either. The only difference it would make for me is to reduce the AC penalty by 1, but I dont calculate that while mounted anyway. Havrin, if you want it, it's all yours, otherwise, I vote we sell it (assuming Katya and Adam dont want it, lol).

After looking up the cost adjustments for Cold Iron, I think I'll toss the longsword back into the pot and keep my regular one. It's an expensive item, and will be even more expensive to enchant later, so I'd rather split that with the party.

Loot:

273gp in various forms
4x Studded Leather- 100gp
4x Shortsword- 40
4x Longbow- 300gp
pelts worth 20gp
+1 scale mail- 1200gp
mwk handaxe- 306gp
mwk shortsword (which Katya can presumably fix)- 310
mwk cold iron longsword- 730
good quality pewter drinking stein
silver ring
jade nude-elf plaque
scroll tube

273gp + 3006 in gear (1503gp when selling) + stuf that I dont know the price of.

If we sold everything I have a price next to, then that would give everyone 355.2gp.

Thoughts?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

07/30/2012: There are a few silver and copper pieces among the fallen, totaling 10 gp. Each of the four bodies found is in studded leather (sometimes rather the worse for wear), and as noted above they carried shortswords and longbows. None of the arms or armor are masterwork. There are a couple of sacks of pelts, total worth 20 gp. Adam, as you're looking over things you notice that although three had their weapons drawn (at least, their shortswords were on the ground near them, instead of in their sheathes), there is no blood on any of the swords.

10/3/2012: Enough berries for Bokken's request of Katya

11/6/2012: 20gp in mixed coinage from bandits

01/04-05/2013: scale armor ([i]detects[/] as faint abjuration magic), 38 Brevic gp, 100 Brevic sp, 6x 10gp silver ingots, good quality pewter drinking stein, silver ring, jade plaque carved with the image of a nude male elf with a curved sword, watertight scroll tube (containing map), mwk cold iron longsword

4/10/2013: 85gp and change on the trader that was killed by the troll
4/11/2013: 50gp, broken masterwork shortsword from troll

That's all I found, but I dont know if Im missing anything.

Can we assume by this point that Katya was able to identify the properties of the scale armor?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

1. Did we find anything else while we were out there? I feel like we (or at least I, lol) should be taking better notes of this stuff.

2. Jacyn will sell his regular longsword back to Oleg (7.5gp), adding 5sp from his own, and give 2gp to Havrin, Sabrina, Bea, and Adam...unless you guys are wanting to sell the masterwork cold iron longsword, in which case I'll keep my regular one, lol.[/ooc]

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Last calendar date was 19 Desbus, is that current?
I cant think of anything that we might want to leave out.
Also, assuming Sabrina doesnt take a cut of the gold, that gives us each 240.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Jacyn relaxes, not doing much of anything, save talking to those near him for awhile, relishing the fine food, drink, and better seating than being either in the saddle or laying on the ground for the past while.

He makes an effort to catch a private word with Oleg, "From the looks of things, Kesten and the others have taken to their new jobs as protectors of the fort rather well. You've had no problems from any of them, I take it?"

Are there any new people here who we didnt recognize from when we last stopped by? Or just the same people?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Jacyn's eyes widen in response to Bea's words. He turns towards Havrin, making sure Bea and Katya cannot see his face, and gives the ranger a look that seems to say, that was awkward.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

"Oh! Well, that is good to know!"

:P

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

We have 7 slots during the con, plus I arranged for some Slot 0 stuff at our regular game store and some Midnight Madness games at a local Interfaith Center. I scheduled 50 tables over the 7 slots, and it looked like we would have enough for 5 tables between Slot0 and MM, and we finished with 52 tables on the books.

We were offering Ruins of Bonekeep, Level 1- The Silent Grave, which you HAVE to have at least 50 tables to offer, so I was cutting it chose (hence the Slot 0 and MM to give me a buffer). I wasnt sure if we would actually get there, but thanks to a lot of help from my GMs and several St Louis GMs and players in attendance helping out, we managed to get it done.

3 years ago, a couple guys came over from Cape Giarardeau, MO to run a table.
2 years ago, we had 11 tables?
Last year we had 28.
This year 52, putting us on par with FlatCon and Winter War (both organized by my VC) as one of the biggest PFS conventions in the state.

The con had a total of about 145 tables worth of games go off during the 7 slots, so we were a full third of that. Im pretty happy about it.

Now, I just gotta report all those sessions, and finish my prep work for this weekend at Cape Comic Con. :P

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Jacyn takes 10, since he is untrained. He knows trolls are big, nasty, like to eat people, and somewhat hard to kill. :P

Katya Volkv wrote:
"I do yes, but I did not prepare it today. I don't usually work as a blacksmith."

"Fair enough. I would not presume you to have prepared a spell with such limited use to our current circumstances while we are out here, when you can cast so many other spells that are useful in many different situations. Tell me, please, why did you decide on a creature made of pure flame to help us combat the troll?"

These comments are not supposed to come off as sarcastic, and Jacyn probably doesnt know why you would use a Fire Elemental against a troll, so that comment is meant as honest curiousity.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

"Katya, don't you have a spell that can take care of this sort of thing?", Jacyn asks, indicating the sword.

Yep, that's what I was starting to dig a grave for.

Ah. I thought you were digging it for the troll for some reason, lol. Now that I know that...

Jacyn cleans off his sword and lance, then takes out a shovel, and helps dig a grave for the unfortunate victim.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

So I took no damage, right?

Jacyn takes a moment to catch his breath before dismounting and taking the head from the shoulders of their fallen foe.

"Is there anything left of what-or-who-ever this thing was eating when we came upon it?"

It was eating something or someone, right?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Round 3, 20/27HP, 20AC, Challenge

Jacyn grunts from the pain of the creature slamming its arm into him, but he managed to stay on Smoke, using his sheild to fend off the worst of the blow.
Growing ever more confident thanks to the timely aid of his friends, Jacyn decides to stay and continue his assault, though his sword swing falls short of finding purchase again.

Mwk Cold Iron Longsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Hoof 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Hoof 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Bite Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Hoof Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

So this is probably going to sound weird, but someone by the name of Jason Wallace posted on the Facebook wall of the owner of my flgs, where I organize Pathfinder Society events. In the post, he said he had run into a guy by the name of Jacyn Frestarn (and I didnt take this name from anywhere) and said that the flgs owner owed Jacyn some money from a game they had played in together.

Jason, if you see this, I do not know if you were referring to me or not, but if so I do not appreciate you telling Scott he owes me anything. Please stop.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Pretty sure even with Bless, all my attacks missed this round lol.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3
DM Carbide wrote:
Actually, Jacyn, I screwed up. The troll moved more than 5', so it wouldn't have gotten more than its bite attack on you (which missed). Take back the damage; if it survives you'll take the 7 points next round.

Edited, along with the text. He was somewhat concerned. Now since it missed him, he's a bit too sure of himself.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Round 2, 20AC, 27/27HP, Challenge

Overly confident thanks to his dodging of the troll's return attack, the half elf drops his lance and draws his sword as he nudges his steed forward with his knees. "Smoke, get him!"

The ashen horse steps a few feet forward before reaching out, trying to bite the trolls hand before standing up on his hind legs and flailing at the beast with his front hooves. While Smoke is still upright, Jacyn takes an opportunity to slice out with his sword, trying to bring the much larger creature down.

Mwk Cold Iron Longsword 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Bite 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Hoof 1 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Hoof 2 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Unfortunately for the cavalier, his assault largely failed. Uh oh. he thinks to himself.

Charging and doing tons of damage is cool, but how interesting would this game be if a single played the big bad guys in a single hit? It wouldnt. :P So, yea, I'm probably gonna get smacked round, but as long as I live, I dont mind much. :)

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

I could do that, but it could just chase after me, lol. If I went back towards the party, then I draw the lot of them (Adam, Katya, and Sabrina, anyway) in too close to the thing when it re-engages.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Hey, guys...I could use a little help here. :P

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Round 1, 20AC, 27/27hp

Jacyn calls out to the troll, interrupting the thing's meal, "For your crimes against the people of these lands, your punishment is death."
He waits til the Troll moves towards the group, hoping to skewer the creature on his lance, and gives Smoke a slight kick in the ribs which sends to horse forward in a flash.

So, Delay until it is within charging distance.
Challenge: +3 Dmg for me, +1 on melee attack rolls for everyone else againt my target, as long as he is threatening me.
Charging Lance Attack 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 4 = 19
Charging Lance Damage 2d8 + 12 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 12 + 6 = 28

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

How far away is the troll?

Jacyn turns Smoke back towards the ugly creature, raising his lance and shield just slightly, prepairing for his assault.

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Jacyn brings Smoke to a full-stop at the top of the rise assuming we are still a good bit awway from the troll, before turning to his companions.

"I think we may be too late to save that poor soul. Shall we avenge him?"

I just dont want to charge in if everyone else thinks we should just leave and deal with it later. Thoughts?

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Fort 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Hearing the scream, Jacryn rides hard towards the sounds of trouble.

"As Adam said, some fey are more destructive than others. And even the ones who seem to be harmless pranksters can be quite harmful if antagonized or offended," Havrin responds to Jacyn's query.

"I don't suppose you know of any ways to track something like that, other than by footprints, do you?" the half elf continues, trying to keep the tone of the conversation low in case anyone (not counting party members) is listening in.

If I understand the map correctly, we are currently in 1E? If so, I vote we go to 1F, and directly back to Oleg's from there.

The next morning:
Fort Save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

"I cannot believe this stench is still here from those bats! Let's get moving quickly, please."

Male Half-Elf Cavalier (Order of the Dragon) 3

Assuming Adam points out the rope to everyone else...

"I agree he probably got what he deserved, from what this trap does...did, but this rope break is very clean. Almost like it was cut. Where did you say this part of the rope would have been located before the trap was sprung?"

If Jacyn is physically capable of reaching the location, he investigates the area near where the rope would have set before it broke, checking for footprints or any other sign of someone being nearby or otherwise messing with the rope.

Take 20 on Perception/Survival, for a 27/24 depending on what is needed.
