Jacqueline stays in the middle of the pack, still unsteady from the poison taking a toll on her body, but her mind is working as quickly as ever. "Fascinating! Some kind of phosphoric evocation. Perhaps you could outline your techniques for me? Seems useful."
Jacqueline still looks pallid as she awakes, and instinctively coughs. "Nightmare. I don't think I'm fine. Appeared..." the young woman wheezes slightly. "...appeared to arrest natural tissue regeneration. Probably, probably some sort of magical element." She struggles to her feet, bags under eyes. "We need, we need to get this done rather quickly. I believe I need advanced medical treatment."
DM: Jacqueline yawns and stretches as the mist billows around her, before slowly getting up. "Dream? Yes, most likely, but due to nature of place may cause existential crisis upon waking. Oh well, must carry on, I suppose." Offhandedly, the young woman summons her blade to her hand and subconsciously reaches for a cup of tea with the other as she meanders deeper into the fog.
None.
Jacqueline pipes up. "The boiler rooms are safe enough, I suppose, and I believe we can make an emergency escape through them to land on a pile of corpses. They're warm, at least. The boilers, not the corpses."
Jacqueline rubs her eyes. "Era nearly got eviscerated, I'm poisoned, Regina got hit... I think we should take a bit of a nap to recover, eh? Sad, can you take first watch?"
Jacqueline moves forward to strike at Latchke, her blade of psychic energy lashing out in an arc of red flame.
Jacqueline, despite the poison still burning through her veins, grits her teeth and focuses her mind. Everything stops and becomes crystal clear for a moment, and Jacqueline draws upon a well of power hidden deep within herself, and gossamer strands of aether begin flowing out from her pores, giving her a protective layer.
Jacqueline grimaces at the carnage. "This is... unsettling, to say the least." She kneels down to examine one of the bodies. "Large scale structural damage, if that wasn't immediately apparent. Most likely caused by some seismological event." She gets up. "I find it hard to believe that his place was hit by an earthquake, and then the majority of the staff and patients turned into terrible monsters. The transformation is a symptom, I believe, not a root cause."
"Indeed! I mean, can you name a single person you know who can perform that strange, eldritch elemental magic as well as you?" Jacqueline pauses. "Well, you don't! Because we're all near-total amnesiacs, but my point still stands."
"No? None of you read minds? Yes, I thought so, by the lack of furious blushing and/or furious reprisals." Jacqueline gets up, albeit slowly. "Anyways, the worst of it seems to have passed. I feel numb, and clumsy, but that should pass with rest."
"...that seems to be helping a bit." She turns her head to the rest of the party. "Can any of you read minds?"
"Making my best efforts... although... it's becoming more difficult." Jac says blearily."Normally, I would think that an anesthetic effect would apply to paralytic agents, but... it's... more like molten iron has replaced by blood. Interesting... interesting effect. Like centipede venom. Were those things centipedes? I couldn't see."
As the poison slowly makes her way through her veins, Jac grimaces. "Yes. Definitely poisoned. Slowing reflexes, numbing sense of touch, loss of manual dexterity... I would guess a paralytic."
Despite all of that, Jacqueline still swipes at one of the creatures with her sword.
"Tissue damage is minimal, but my defenses against outside actors within my blood may be tested!" She pauses. "Um, the bite didn't hurt all that much, but I might be poisoned."
"Sad!" Jacqueline yells, rushing towards Saturday's last known position. Once there, she immediately covers Saturday's back. "Appear to be insectile in nature. Grown out of proportion. Interesting," she rattles off before taking a stab at one with her psychic blade.
"A library would indeed be a fantastic find! Who knows, considering the apparent nature of this place, we might even be able to find a treatment for our amnesia. And possibly contend with some sort of eldritch being made up of traces of lost knowledge. Who knows with this place?"
Jacqueline follows in Saturday's footsteps. "That... creature, whatever it was, was fascinating! It's brain was obviously normal sized for a rat, but whatever it was babbling had a vaguely recognizable linguistic structure! By rights, it's brain shouldn't have had the capacity to speak... or it's vocal chords, for that matter. The things we could've learned from speaking to it... if it wasn't trying to viciously gnaw us to death."
"Is it intelligent? Perhaps we can negotiate with it," Jacqueline says as she casually steps forward and attempts to skewer one of the huge rats.
"Always happy to help."
"How do you know that the boiler isn't secretly longing to tear into your flesh inside, just unable to express that terrible urge?" Jacqueline pauses. "It's probably better that you don't know that, actually. We don't need to add inanimate objects to our ever-increasing list of things to be paranoid of."
Jacqueline also moves into the room. "A glow? That doesn't exactly bode well."
"My unique ability would be somewhat difficult to imitate as well." To demonstrate, Jacqueline once again manifests her blade.
"That seems like a sound strategy. Although they may be clever enough to wait until we let our guards down, then murder us."
"Indeed. Let us go!"
"Will the charred corpse of one suffice for one of the three? It'll be a tad difficult to get it up the chute, but there's one for you."
"My current conjecture is that creatures similar to the one we fought are stalking this place. Their ability to change appearance in a whim and their depravity would certainly foster paranoia." Jacqueline muses.
"Thank you, Sad."
Jacqueline quickly puts her hands up, her blade disappearing in a swirl of aether. "Now, please, would you not be too hasty with those crossbows? I've just been born, relatively speaking, as this iteration of 'my' consciousness has no memories, and as such, is essentially newborn-although it does have a few lingering skills, most likely from previous experience, making that postulation somewhat shakier than I thought at first. Nonetheless, I would love to kiss my first girl, get a stable job, maybe fight a few more monsters before I get filled full of crossbow bolts. Oh, I'm Jacqueline Artorias, by the way, of some province and country or another. What are yours? It's only polite to at least introduce yourself before you kill someone." Beat. "I believe so, anyways."
This has really pissed me off, and I want your take on this, Merisiel. One of my human friends has just made a major decision to leave her husband for the love of her life, an elf. She's obviously super broken-up about her decision but stands by it nonetheless. Meanwhile, the elf is treating it like a meaningless fling, going by the logic that the human is going to live thirty, maybe forty more years at most. Is this elf as much of a *** as I believe she is?
Jacqueline raises an eyebrow. "Oh, come now, Sad. You know that mysterious voices beckoning you to dilapidated buildings mean nothing but trouble. At least that's what I've apparently learned from the novels I don't remember reading." Jacqueline takes another look around the courtyard, before her eyes alight upon the door to the inside.
"Seeming as the only other option is to investigate the strange voice leading our only good man here to some dark, terrible fate-I'm not terribly interested in his relevant parts, but the same may not be said for the rest of you-I say we head inside. Oh, and also, it appears that the rain may be a near-boiling point when it falls, so we don't want to get caught out in any storms." With that, Jacqueline promptly throws the door open and heads inside.
With a simple flick of her wrist, Jacqueline once again summons her flaming blade, and with the free hand, she imperceptibility straightens her tricorn hat. "Right! Well, then, tally-ho!" As she gets one foot out the door, the eccentric young woman takes a closer look at the mist. "Fascinating. And finally not in a horrifying, morbid way, although it is vaguely unsettling." Jac continues her foray into the outside world.
Yeah, we probably should start looking for a new GM. I would suggest opening up a recruitment thread.
Jacqueline once again leaps forward towards the flaming monster, slicing with blinding speed.
Jacqueline gives a graceful step back, blade suddenly in hand. "Rats? Dogs? Pile of corpses stitched together in a macabre experiment? What do you think, Sad?" she quips as she smoothly settles into a defensive stance.
While the others are conversing, Jacqueline is putting on what appears to be her only belongings in this wretched place-the original of the armor that she conjured for herself. It's a rather strange effect, watching clothes slide and merge seamlessly with the armor.
"When bravery fails, scare 'em right back. And if that doesn't work, a sword through the heart or neck kills most anything." Jacqueline gives the man a wink. "What's your name?" She then turns to Regina and says flippantly, "I'll take a look through the other door. We still don't know where our equipment is. Your equipment, at any rate." She then moves towards the only other exit and opens the door.
Jacqueline nods. "Ready as a humanoid can be in these circumstances." She feels out her ears. "Alright. Human. Probably."
Jacqueline, for her part, appears to not be partaking in any of the drama. When the rest of the party opens her cell she gives a cursory nod, and begins pacing back and forth, muttering under her breath. Anybody who gets close enough can hear that Jacqueline appears to be reciting random trivia at a rapid speed. When the party begins arguing over the fate of the man, she turns and gives Beatrix a withering glare. "Our current predicament is not an excuse to abandon our humanity." She then paces and continues muttering for a few moments, before she finally snaps her fingers. "Ah. It appears that I am afflicted with a specific, targeted amnesia. It erased all of my memories, but none of my knowledge, thankfully. I believe everybody else is in the same predicament." Then, clothes, out of nowhere, suddenly pop into existence on Jacqueline. She then walks over to the man and gives a gentle smile. "Dying is always your last option. Even if you're tortured. Or, you know, that doctor-lady decides to bring a dozen other things with her. As long as you're alive, then there's still hope." She furrows her brow. "Unless, of course, this is all a shared hallucination and we're slowly being constricted to death by some sort of fungus monster. But that's an outside case."
Will post soon. Hopefully. Once I have time. My family has been taken with the fever known as Turkey Day preparation, and I have to help them through it.

Jacqueline tsks as she nimbly avoids the strange being's lunge. "Considering all of our autonomy, this may be the waking world after all. Apologies for any offense, Sad." With a fluid motion, she slides the blade of psychic will straight through the bars, towards the "doctor."
Jacqueline's eyes snap open, and, naturally, she hits the ground rambling. "-composition and consistency of tentacles indicate some sort of extradimensional or artificial being. Their size, correlated with mass, indicate that they have adapted from gravities-" She then looks around, that same somewhat off-putting deep curiosity on her face. Her eyes alight upon her own body, then onto Saturday, and, as she manifests her psychic blade once again and a pair of pruning shears launches themselves at the strange being torturing the man on the table, she scolds Saturday. "I did mark you for strange tastes, Saturday, but honestly! You should be ashamed of yourself! Even a manifestation of your subconscious is telling you so!"
