"His will? Was that your father?" Irisa is shocked at the relevation. "No one deserves to be cut off from their family. If there's something we can do to mend things, please let me know. I should have said something earlier. Calmed things down..."

Irisa stands up, walks up over to Ameiko and offers her a hug. More words are unlikely to help at this point, so she remains quiet.

Before leaving from the sheriff's office Irisa asks if there has been any word from Shaelu. If they knew the location of the goblins themselves that might give them more options.

Irisa is disappointed by the discoveries they made at the island m "Bleh, I really thought we would find something here. I guess you're right Garrick, there's probably nothing here. If what happened yesterday is related to chopper, then they're probably located somewhere else entirely."

"About what to do next. Heading to the Rusty Dragon for some food sounds like a great idea. Though I don't want to spend the rest of the evening just drinking. Looking into the goblins themselves is a good idea if we have enough time left. If not, well, asking around town for information about Father Tobyn and his daughter sounds like a good idea to me. Of course that might be best accomplished by visiting the other establishments, so we all get what we want."

What time of the day is it? I'm thinking to use gather information with diplomacy if Shaelu doesn't give us any news of the goblins

I'll put a point in knowledge religion. It fits with my trait. And I'll move the spell over to shadow conjuration which I plan to get from veiled Illusionist.

On second thought I might skip evangelist. I'm already going to acquire higher spell levels 1 level behind Vidar. It's probably better to not make it 2. I can pick up diverse obedience instead for that part of the benefit.

Irisa smiles at the woman, waits for Vidar to speak and then offer her own thanks. "Thank you, Desna's blessing upon you." She grants the woman guidance.

On the way in Irisa prays quickly to Desna. "Desna may you please give me the right words, so we can get the best outcome for everyone involved without anyone getting offended, but bringing us closer together instead."

Inside Irisa nods at Denialan's words. "It is as we feared. We found the grave disturbed. First we found tracks outside of six goblins and a humanoid having entered the crypt. Inside however, we did not find the vault empty. There were two animated skeletons waiting for us. Thankfully we managed to dispatch them." She pauses for a moment with a relived smile to lighten the mood.

Shortly after she continues. "But then we discovered what the goblins and their longshacks had been after. Father Tobyn's grave was robbed. I know you knew him well when he was alive, so this must be unsettling news for you. Please accept this skin of Airag. It might help." She hands over the skin and wait for him to accept and maybe drink before continuing.

"We talked to Father Zanatus about what motives someone could have for pillaging Father Tobyn's cairn. He told us about the fire that destroyed the previous church and about some unsettling series of events called the chopper murders. It's not much of a lead, but it's the best we got. Perhaps someone is looking to get back at him for what happened beck there. Maybe even someone worshipping the very same demon. We heard you took a big part in dealing with that issue. You're very brave and resourceful that managed that. Sandpoint is lucky to have you."

"If this lead is indeed true, then we need to know what we can learn about the events that transpired here. No one are better at telling us than you. I truly want to help the town, we all do. Please share what you remember with us. And if there's anything else noteworthy about Father Tobyn, it would be good to know. Perhaps you know something else about him that Zanatus does not. If there's anything else that could lead to this, it would be crucial to know."

diplomacy w/enchanted diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

While roleplaying-wise it sometimes might make sense to wait for others to speak, I find that pbp works much smoother if characters doesn't hesitate to speak up. Pbp is already slow. Anything that advance the story is good for keeping up the pace. I recommend reading Doomed Hero's guide to pbp (and the updated version) if you haven't already.

Irisa smiles and accept. "Thank you Ameiko. You've been of great help. I hope we get to the bottom of this. For all our sake. Let's go and see the sheriff." She looks to the others then heads out to find Hemlock.

Hunting a boar? Don't we have more important things to worry about? Though if we don't have any more information.... Irisa's thoughts mirrors the others on the matter of the boar.

Irisa smiles at Ameiko and answers her question. "Father Tobyn's body was taken. The goblins came along with one other person to break into the crypt and rob his grave specifically. Father Zantus told us a bit of the story of the town, grave tale. We wonder if it might be related to what happened yesterday. The sheriff might be able to tell us more as he was directly involved in the events. Father Zanatus warned us that it might be wise to bring drink to make it easier for Hemlock. Though at this point we're fumbling around in the dark. If you got any information about what happened here or how it might relate to the events yesterday, that would be very helpful. Owning the rusty dragon you'll surely hear a lot." Irisa isn't secretive like Vidar, She belives that sharing information with everyone is most likely to bring the best result because then everyone can contribute if they're able.

Irisa is shocked by the news of people being about to leave. Her eyes go wide. A moment later a small smile emerges. "It's good that they got something to believe in. When I can't deal with everything by myself I turn to Desna and she often hears my prayers. I'm not from around here, but I'll still try to do my best to help. It would be a shame if people had to leave their homes and lives behind. Let's go and show them we can do this." She looks to the others and starts walking out the door.

I guess Irisa didn't find anything else of interest since you didn't mention it in your post?

Detect magic can be used to be identify things, you don't need identify, it just makes things more likely. The text on identify is even "works like detect magic with a +10 bonus on spellcraft".

Irisa goes over and picks up the robe and checks the skeletons for any valuables after finishing searching the empty cairn. "Maybe Desna will allow me to detect what magic this holds tomorrow."

"That's good thinking Vidar. Did the pathfinders teach you that?"

She looks around at the others. "Unless anyone got more suggestions, I see two things we can do to investigate further. Talk with the Sheriff or explore Stoot's place. Talking with the sheriff might give us more information about this remote cave as well. Hemlock might have more information about the shrine, so it makes sense to talk to him first. I'm a bit hesitant about this idea about the drink. It's still early in the day and if he offers to help us with the exploration I would not want him inebriated. But Father Zantus knows him better, so we should probably listen to him. So we should try to find Ameiko first. Thought it would be nice to know the exact route to the hideout. Perhaps you could tell us or show us on a map before we leave father?" She looks towards the old man with a hopeful smile.

You do have detect magic prepared according to your sheet. That allows you to try to identify, just without the +10 bonus

Irisa's eyes are wide and her mouth is open half in shock. She speaks up once he's finally done. "That's a horrifying tale Father. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Did you ever find out the name of the bird? Maybe whoever taught Stoot about it started the fire? Were there any signs of accomplishes? It's 5 years ago, so maybe he has a young accolyte that has grown up since then and who have now allied with the goblins? I guess we should talk to the sheriff about this, then go to visit the bird-shrine. Maybe there'll be clues there? But first, let's search this place."

She starts looking carefully around the place for any hidden clues then days to Vidar. "The robe is magical. Perhaps you can identify it. I want able to figure out what it is, but as a wizard, you'll be better versed in such things."

Though you might have to adjust DC's for certain things since we might be more likely to get a high result this way.

Edit: I don't think I've assigned my skill points correctly. I can't recall if we're using background skills for this or not, but I seem to have 5 points assigned, but I should have had 4 or 6. :\.

With the silver tounged feat Irisa can shift attitude 3 steps.

I'm considering taking the Veiled Illusionist prestige class and maybe also Evangelist prestige class (choosing veiled Illusionist). Though that leads me to two questions... Can I change the chain lightning spell that I choose with my misionary trait? If I pick veiled Illusionist I think I won't get mystery spells, so I won't get chain lightning. Desna's second evangelist boon grant a bonus on consecration checks equal to charisma, does this mean I get double cha to concentration, or does this part of the ability so nothing?

Due to the nature of pbp where people have different schedules, I find that diplomacy works best if everyone are allowed to have their say and\or roll when they're able and then just use the highest roll as the main roll and the others as aid. That way people with weaker scores aren't penatlized for speaking up early and we don't have to wait on each other as much.

"Fires and now goblins. This place has really been plauged by some poor luck. If we're going to find out about what the goblins and their leader was after, we need to know more about what happened here. Father Zantus, if you could please share everything about these previous events we stand a much better chance at figuring things out. Did the father or the daughter have any enemies? Though other people they interacted with, friends or otherwise, could also help to know about."

She sweeps her hand out in front of her as she prays. "Oh The Great Dreamer, show us not the dream, but reality her and now. Reveal the power beyond the veil and uncover any magic that might here reside. Mother moon I pray to you so, you can show me the truth."

"Garrick, it hit you. Are you badly hurt? I could use my healing magic to cure you. Though when we were fighting yesterday, I saw you take a hit, but then later, you didn't seem wounded. Do you have healing of your own?" Irisa is worried and moves on over closer to Garrick to aid him if necessary.

"I do wonder though, if the goblins and their leader was here yesterday, perhaps they are the ones who caused these skeletons to rise? Why would they do such a thing? Did they come here just to desecrate the graves?" Irisa studies the remains of the skeletons and what she can see of the room while she talks.

Gah, sorry for not posting earlier. By the way, when all 4 of us are before the next enemy turn, I think we should be allowed to post in any order.

Irisa's eyes go wide as she sees what's in the darkness. "What are those things?" She whisper with fear in her voice. Then she sees the guest skeleton fall and she smiles, "Your axe is strong Garrick."

She wants to help distract the creature, figuring it might work just as well as against the goblin, unfortunately, getting around it seems difficult. Maybe I can fake a punch to throw it off? She steps up next to the dwarf and does so.

Irisa nods. "Ok, let's go in. We should do what we can. I'm sure Desna will bless our path so we'll be lucky to spot or avoid dangers, if there even are any. But it would have been nice if we had someone adept at keeping us clear of such dangers as well. What about you, any of you good at spotting hidden dangers? I must admit I don't have much experience with such either. " She looks to Vidar and Denialan.

"I can't see in the dark either. Maybe someone could carry a torch?" She says while they're approaching the vault again.

How far is it from the vault to the priest? Are they just standing right next to each other?

"Thank you, sister. May the song of the spheres bless you with luck. I'm Irisa." Irisa says to the junior guardswoman, who probably was older than herself. She holds the other girl's hands in her own before accepting the bolt-case. Her prayer does grant guidance for a short while.

Irisa embrace father Zanatus in a hug of greeting. "Good day father Zanatus. It's good to see you're unharmed. We'll try to do our best of course. Though don't expect too much, I've never done anything like this before."

Over at the vault Irisa prays repeatedly as she studies the tracks. "Desna grant me guidance to know where to look to find out what we're facing. I might not have much experience, but by your will, hopefully I can figure out what they mean."

Irisa blushes slightly at the praise, but along with it comes a small smile. We fought, yes. But surely there were others, the guards, tey did a lot as well. Though it's nice to see that we affected so many. We really made a difference. If we weren't here, maybe the casualties would be larger.

Irisa is shocked to learn about the destination the longshacks were going for. "What could they possibly want from a grave? Is there something hidden in there that they would want to steal? Either way, we should go help out by investigating."

She turns towards the sheriff. "I find myself running short on crossbow bolts. Would you happen to have any spare sheriff Hemlock?"

If you prepare an offensive cantrip like acid splash or daze, you'll be able to affect combat more even when you run out of 2st level spells.

Since Ronah disappeared again, we are without anyone capable of dealing with traps or locks again... Denialan got it as a class skill though and later several abilities related to it. Would you be interested to move a point over Denialan? Would that be ok with you Carbide?

It's probably not unreasonable to assume you prepared them before going for breakfast (or that you did it directly after breakfast while the rest of us waited). Though the question still remains, which ones? The same as the previous day?

Before going to bed Irisa uses the last of her magic to heal herself.

Irisa wakes with a start. Visions of blood and violence tormented her dreams. Disoriented she hugs herself as she looks around the room. The surroundings of the simple furniture and her familiar gear slowly calms her down. She tries to recall exactly what it was she dreamt, but can't recall it exactly. The spirits or Desna must have sent me a sign. Hopefully it's about the things that already passed and not what is to come. There has been enough violence.

She meditates for several minutes in her bed, calling upon spirits and Desna herself to recover her magic for the day. The procedure stabelize her and she's her cheery old self by the time she's done. She suits up in her armour again before heading down for breakfast, ready for the day.

She eats quickly once she's down, she's much more interested in figuring out what the sheriff might have learned from further questioning the goblins than to delay over the food. "We should head to the Sheriff. After what we learned last night I don't feel like this is over. We should get to the bottom of this before more harm is caused."

You don't have to justify stuff ooc\metagamy. One of the advantages of pbp is that it's much easier to not just burst out metagame\out of character stuff that might reveal stuff we're not supposed to know. I don't care if you're playing by the book or not, I'm here to play an immersive and fun game. If you think something would be better off being changed, then do so. I don't want to know as it reduces immersion.

Irisa ponders for a moment. "Hmm, that's odd. They should be able to tell how tall this person is, skin, hair and maybe even eye colour. Every descriptive feature they can give should help narrow it down. We might not get the shape of their ears, but if we get up know what armour they wear or a symbol of some kind on it, it'll help. Of course, that's assuming they want to tell us these things. They could be keeping things back on purpose." She sighs.

"I wish I could help more. I do want to help you get to the bottom of this. But I fear I'm not the best at figuring out these kinds of mysteries. If there's anything I can do though. Don't hesitate to call upon me. I'll be staying here on Ameiko's hospitality for a week at least, so if there's anything I can do for Sandpoint while I'm here, just let me know and I'll try to get it done."

"That is horrible! Why would someone do something like that?" Irisa is shocked at the news, she believes people should be better than that. "What do you mean that noone saw the leader after they infiltrated the town? Did any of the goblins see the leader before that? If we know what the person looks like we might be able to figure out who it is. Though anything they say about their leader could help us out. If he talked a specific way, used specific kinds of weapons. We should probably also ask them where exactly they came from. While I don't relish the thought of seeking out a goblin lair, it might be better than having someone out there looking for ways to cause further harm to the town."

Irisa enjoys the stew, but looks up from the food when the sheriff approaches. She smile at the man. No matter how down you feel, a kind smile always lighten things up, my mom used to say. "I'm pleased to get to speak to you Sheriff. I'm Irisa from the Snowmelt tribe. Today has been a rough day with the goblin attack, but it's good to see that there are someone trying to keep the law."

"What sort of reputation did his family have? Surely no one are so bad as to deserve to be killed by goblins." Irisa says to Ronah before they start heading back.

Irisa nods gravely. "Thanks, but I'm not sure the fighting here is something to be happy about. A lot of people were hurt because of those evil goblins." She winces a bit as her thoughts are drawn to her injured leg. Then a relived smile breaks out. "Though I guess it would have gone even worse if we didn't manage to fight back against them. I appreciate the offer and take it gladly. I'm Irisa."

Since we actually did have time earlier, did Irisa have time to find any bolts after the previous fight? For each bolt that miss it's a 50% chance it's possible to recover. I think I'm down to 4 bolts and 1 spell remaining now and hp at 6/10, is that right?

You're the second highest damage threat in the party. Irisa and Vidar are focused in other areas. With archeologist luck you might not one shot the goblins like Garrick does, but you're close.

A bard is a 3/4 Bab class with a ton of stuff that doesn't focus on just dealing damage. You can't expect to do as much as a full fighting focused class.

As for bolt ace... You take a but longer to get going, but once you do, it can output quite high damage. With two weapon fighting and rapid shot you get off a lot of attacks and you can hit touch as well.

Two handed weapon fighting is the easiest style to get going. Other styles retire much more investment.

That said... The game isn't all about doing damage in combat. The most important part is the story we're telling together. There are a lot of different skillets that are used to make it all come together.

It's a bit funny and sad at the same time how a crit from Irisa's crossbow is worse than one of Garricks attack. Of course with rapid shot and a composite bow (or hefty doses of luck) ranged attacks get much more comparable, but Irisa isn't going to go in that direction.

Wow, he's so far away. I doubt I can even hit him from here. And Garrick is surrounded. I should go to help. Irisa skips forward nervously. She's worried that the goblins might hurt her, but she gets in there regardless, because she knows that it might throw the enemies of if they're forced to watch their back. "Hey!" She shouts out to throw off the goblin and to alert Garrick to her presence.

It's not a problem at all :). I just felt like I managed to phrase it decently diplomatic (even though I could never live up to the charisma of my character) and was a bit surprised at the harsh reaction.

Tre beautiful young girl starts looking around the battlefield, trying to somewhat replenish her stock of bolts while the others respond. "I'm not well enough prepared for a battle like this today. I'm almost out of bolts..."

After she's done she turns to Vidar. "About being prepared... May I humbly suggest that you might want to consider carrying a crossbow master pathfinder? It's quite easy to use, you just load in a bolt, point it at the enemy and click here." She shows off the trigger mechanism. "I could teach you if you do manage to pick up one. As you've seen, I'm a spellcaster as well. But my prayers can only do so much, it's nice to have a weapon as well when the magic is not sufficient. It's so foul that the goblins attacked today during the festival when people weren't prepared."

I haven't had time to count over how many bolts I've used, but I feel like I'm running low. I should try to find time to count... Down to 2/5 spells remaining for the day.

That's not how command works. It makes the creature do the action om it's next turn then it can't undo it in the same round. Each action works a bit differently, please read it. The whole point of not attacking the goblin that's was targeted by the spell was because it wouldn't be prone yet and it wouldn't get up until the round after regardless. Attacking from prone is -4 so the goblin would miss.

"Step away from the goblin so we can fire at it without risking hitting you! Attack the one that's down instead. " Irisa shouts at Ronah through the clangour of the battle. She steps back, loads up and trains her crossbow on the standing goblin. Once Ronah makes a move, she lets the bolt fly.
