Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota walks over to the statue and points out its chain "This should probably connect to something"
He then points down, where a small dent is visible then towards the back of the room, under a column. "And I believe that might be what that something is". Then goes over there to take a look.

Iota is quite focused on the workings of the generator and concerned with the rumbling in the beginning but with the generator setting into a comfortable humming operation Iota takes a look around the now lit room and spots an out of place item.

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iotas eyes light up as he finds out what the generator actually does. Water is of course a precious resource in its own right but the simple fact that it runs on water opens a lot of possibilities. Splitting water into its component parts should be an endthermic reaction - requiring energy to perform, more precicely electric current. And more importantly: "burning" the resulting hydrogen returns it to water.

He turns to the rest of the expedition:
"I am aware that we are in a dangerous position while the hangar is closed but this generator is an absolute treasure. It seems to consume water to produce its effect. I will take a moment to assess if we have a chance to take it with us"
Examine reactor - Tech Use(Int) + 2 helpers vs 71: 1d100 ⇒ 24 5DoS - spectacular success

Is there a way to take the generator back with us in a timely manner? Preferably without completely taking it apart because that takes too long and since its that mysterious we might not be able to reassemble it. Iota would love it if he could leave two of his helpers here with an escort and they disconnect it from the ship and move it back to our landing crafts

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota grits his teeth, ignoring the inconvenience caused by this place.

"This ship, while once mighty and noble, is now part of a space hulk. There is ALWAYS something on a hulk. Besides - there is something in the system and we're on a ship the system is everywhere. So stop your nerves from fluttering because there might be something. Instead realise there IS something out there and let this realization sharpen your focus."

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

It takes about a minute for the primary tech team to assemble - being plenty disciplined but no soldiers after all.

Iota on the other hand uses the time to take out his boltgun and power axe from underneath his long red robes, revealting that they've been on him all along. He first checks the boltgun with well practiced (ex-) techguard movements before - while actively and noticably never pointing it at anything valuable. Be it personel or machinery. Before contueing to check the power axe for full power and circuit integrity.

He finishes just as the tech group is done assembling and the lead adept salutes him. Iota in turn reports to the others: "Ready when you are."

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota, being up on his feet as he was directing the show, shudders but then lets out a slow sigh, calming himself noticably. He walks over to the "command center" plush chairs.

"We've got something in the system. Something with unnatural control over machinery. It's best we consider all machinery hostile and take steps to prevent it from harming us just like with the welded open bulkheads. I'll need access to the bridge or main engineering to get the shuttle bay back open properly so better get ready to move into the ship."

He then turns and addresses the landing bay:
"Consider all automated machinery as potentially hostile until further notice. Have a manual killswitch of some kind ready close by. Primed explosive, trusty lasgun or simply a removable power supply cord is all acceptable. Backup tech team, start working on getting the landing bay open by force. Primary tech team form up on the entrance deeper into the ship. We will venture towards a main cogitator node to open the shuttlebay properly."

Then he turns back to the senior commanders: "Gentlemen. I think it's time to start exploring personnally. Please make the arrangements you see fit on your ends."

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Eventually Iota disconnects and opens a channel to the officers:

"Expect trouble. Something is sleeping in the system. And it is not friendly. We won't diverge from the protocols - as they say haste makes waste - but I want every step to to snap into the next one."
What about ship schematics? Or At least a rough map of the ship? Did Iota get anything like that from interfacing with the ships' systems?

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Interesting...

Iota addresses the gathered officers
"Thank you, Archibald. We can indeed follow the xenos vessel exploration protocol. Note however that it seems that this vessel seems to have ancient human origins and seeing the symbology I believe we might actually be closer to our target here than on our original destination."

He then turns to give orders for the exploration.
"First turn this landing bay into as much of a fortress as you can while not putting anything down you'd really miss if we take off without it. Once this stronghold is established we'll start moving into the vessel.
Treat it as hostile ground - even if it once was a human vessel there is no telling what kind of xenos or worse has made its nest inside.
All open hatchways, doors, etc between here and the forward party must be jammed open so our escape route stays open at all times but mined with a secure trigger - both remote and close range. In case the forward party must close them behind them while fleeing.
all branch-off points must be guarded twofold - one security party at the branch off points and one party further down the branch. Loss of contact between the two parties are reported imidiatly and treated as emergency until an all-clear can be established. The original party is to remain on their station and a new search party will be dispatched from the hangar instead."

He turns to Solonius.
"I will take the lead in the technical exploration, Solonius you're free to fill out the security details within those parameters as you see fit."

Iota will, if no objections are raised, or once those are adressed, will use the time while the hangar is fortified to interface with the ship systems, trying to get a map or layout of the ship. If that fails he'll ask the escort ships to send him picts of as much of the vessel as they can see inside the hulk, then extrapolate the ship layout from what he can see there.

Iota nods - then stops himself since Heinrich can't see him nodding anyways.
"Right. Let's get this piece of tech examined as soon as possible. The warp is vile in itself and the alien hides the holy mysteries by wrapping it in unholy xenos corruption."

He examines the doors closely, going by the logic that you'd want to have a door opening mechanism close to the door so you could actually activate it an walk through. After a while he find something that is - or at least will serve to purpose of - an access to the inner workings of the door construction. He marks the plate and motions one of his servitors over "XE-211, use saw utility on marked location. Depth of 2mm."
The servitor gets to work, extending an arm with a circular saw to the marked location, which starts to spin and throw sparks as it cuts an exactly 2mm rectangular grove. The servitor then trundles off, having no more tasks to perform.
Iota then removes the sheet of... metal? And gives it to one of his tech adepts for savekeeping and later study. It reveals ports and cables somewhat aproximating an imperial MIU interface connector. While quite close to what he seeks, Iota still needs to study it for a few minutes before he gets to work, soldering wires to exposed connectors and connecting an actual MIU port to it. He then turns to Heinrich:

"Alright, time to put your courage to work. Be prepared for an uncomfortable connection as these alien structures will definitly use ill-matching protocols for communication."

Waiting for an aknowledgement from Heinrich once he gets it he plugs the cable of Heinrichts MIU unit into a monitoring unit, which then in turn is plugged into the MIU.
"Adept Xenian, monitor temporary MIU connector connection. Adept Silvus track and map cables through the now active connection through the walls."
Once both Adepts are ready to perform their tasks he guides Heinrich in the communication with the alien system:

"Connection established. Incoming Signal. Identified as identification request." he pulls a small disc shaped object from under his robes and inserts it into the MIU Connection monitoring unit. "Heinrich, translation codes are now available to download at location /opt/tr7542, open translator and respond to the incoming signal with 'external maintenance, full access'"

It takes a bit before Heinrich got the translator actually running and communicating but once the identification is established things go a bit smoother

"Now this should be the request for commands. Try 'open door'... No? Let me check the signal again. Oh right it identifies the access point here. Yeah tell it 'open external hangar 3'"

And at this point the hangar lights up in an eery alien glow and the door starts hissing and moving, slowly opening, as if it has forgotten how to do so over the year? decades? milenia? it has spent in the warp

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota is still sifting through the data collected just before the warp translation when Archibalds message finds him. This of course means he is connected to the ships data store and not far from the sensor data to take a look himself. A few thousand pages of data and several seconds later he confirms Archibalds message: "Acknowledged. I have seen the data my physical presence on the bridge is not necessary. I will take all necesssary steps for a mechanicus presence in a boarding party."

With that done he sighs a little but puts the analysis of the translation data onto a background coprocessor - but not before feeding it the new data about the space hulk for comparison. He then write several iterations of possible maintenance schedules for his subordinates to pick from as appropriate while he is away. Finally he calls over two of his favorite heavy duty servitors, with melta and cutting equipment, and a few of his most trusted subordinates which are not currently essential to ship maintenance and orders them to prepare for hulk boarding. He himself does not take very long. His weapons and armor are on him, he mostly needs a voidsuit if live support over there goes bad but those are stored close to the embarkation deck for obvious reasons.

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota takes a look at the damage reports, then sends a quick report to the bridge: "Damages minimal, ship operations can continue as normal"
Still - a warp translation is a warp translation and stuff breaks when it happens. Nothing bad enough that Iota has to intervene personally so he sends the list on to his second in command:

"Emergency repair status down from vermillion to yellow. Damage report attached. Keep emergency shift on standby for another 30 minutes we don't know if hostiles are about to engage"

With that done he can finally take his time to parse the sensor logs. Increased logging was only activated very briefly before the jump happened but there should still be some information in there on the 'thing' that rammed them out of the warp.

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota looks up from his work and acknowledges Archibalds request in a terse but perfectly calm tone:
"Emergency translation protocols have been initiated. According to protocol Engineering crew on standby will reinforce the active shift in approximately 23 seconds for the first wave of speedup. Engineering crew on rest schedule will arrive within a timeframe of 10 to 20 minutes for either more speedup and stabilisation or post-translation repairs."

Seeing as how the laws of the physical realm are already breaking it would be best to overcharge the gellerfield generator at this point... but making the modifications to enable it is not feasible in the given timeframe. I will have to work on creating this possibility for future use

Then he switches communication channels:
"Magos Signus to bridge engineering staff: Switch to complete logging. I want ALL the data on how this happened, not just the usual level."

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Meeting with Heinrich:

Iota actually takes the time to meet with Heinrich in a proper meeting room, since the presentational hardware there is much better suited for discussions than the research oriented gear situated in his room.

Since this is not a big meeting a cup of recaf is prepared at two adjacent chairs on one side of the table. Iota motions Heinrich to sit, then listens to his ideas silently, sometimes nodding, sometimes scratching his chin. He takes the data slate at the end and studies it for a bit before sighing and thumping on a holo projector in the table. Then hitting the table with quite a bit more force, putting the image of the projector into focus for three thirds of the time.

"Well Heinrich, let's go over this one at a time. So the friend or foe beacon is basically already available. The combeads in use by all our squads CAN very much do that."
The projector switches to an image of a combead, with various power statistics next to it
Except they don't broadcast all the time because to conserve power. And the range is limited. The problem here is conveing that information back to the squad on the ground. They generally don't have the augmetics to display them as is, so we'd have to make a helmet capable of a heads up display standard gear. And we should probably think about a backup in case helmets get damaged. The signal itself can be boosted by the squads com specialist, but they'd be back to their smaller range if the coms specialist or his coms gear gets taken out.
Anyway: slave a hud capable helmet to the combead and slave the combeads to the coms gear of the specialist and we'll be in business. But the soldiers WILL have to recharge their combeads more often. Probably double as often as without the system. So you might want them to switch the system off unless in an active combat situation."

Then the projector switches over to an auspex.
"The same principals apply here, add a regular Auspex to the gear and slave it to the combead, takes power but when in need it will provide the information you're looking for. Not sure why you'd want to trigger an alarm animal readings thought?"

The projector then switches to an image of an active fighter craft
"As of your second suggestion... I fear I have much less to offer you with this. As you can see here" he points towards the image "The overall performance of the craft is in balance. The engine thrust provides the nimble flexibility you have probably come to expect from it because its power is enough to propel the craft that way. If we add more fuel, or live support" Iota presses a few buttons, highlighting the fuel and power reserves, and the live support system based on the power.
"If we increase these capabilities then naturally the weight will increase and the in-fight flexibility will suffer." this is underlined by the graph showing the weight of craft in the projector going up, and the craft in the projector performing the simulated manouvers more slugish, taking slightly wider turns, accelerating a little slower than before. "So while I can give you that I am not sure you would want the tradeoff. I'd rather suggest we hold off on this suggestion until we uncover suitable technology which straight up improves applicable stat or until we make a breakthrough ourselves"

The projector then switches over to an image of the ship, with its various comparments highlighted
"As for the training bridge... I see the worth in it. But frankly if we had the space on the ship the i'd call dibs on that to have an actual proper laboratory for my research. Of course traing the crew is important and maybe getting hit at a less important part of the ship while in combat would be a great boon I'd argue that the ongoing improvements I could make with a proper lab would outweight the training, which can be done in a lesser scale 'hands on' on the actual bridge" and the theoretical bonus of the enemy making a mistake. Anyway we don't have the space for either so it's a moot point for now. That is not to say it can't be done - but enlarging the ship with new comparments is be a substantial investment and I believe Archibald will want to increase our profits before investing more into the ship"

I might be wrong here but I think we used all the available space during creation, so we would not have space for this. If I got that wrong feel free to correct Iota IC for being "work blind" to all the space on the ship =D

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Before:
Iota takes note of the symbol and makes some inquiries - first of all into his own system log. While he still looks very unaugmented on the outside his head IS host to some of the finest cogitator technology to ever come out of holy mars. And so it should not be hard to find out where the command to draw this symbol was formulated. A bit of digging through internal logs but isn't that what he does most days anyway, trying to find system faults on the ship?
In paralell he also starts investigating this symbol in all data storages available to him. That is of course on the ship but also in all the datacaches on the planet to which he gets access. He is not that secretive about it. He does _not_ make a public anouncement about what he seeks but he is quite open to ask data clerks to look for it for him.

On the journey proper there is not yet anything out of the ordinary for Iota to do. He keeps up with his shiftly tasks as enginseer prime and when not busy with that then he's all over his experiments. The warp is not the prime location for most experiments but his current endevour to produce a geller field "gun" can be done here without problems.

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota nods at Heinrichs suggestion
"I'd also suggest we take a path that will lead to clear rewards while being ready if those raiders turn up. Our best advantage is that we have a fast ship so we can likely intercept them if they do turn up.
If we get access to fast in-system ships then we could also lay a trap while we're away. Have a sizable force stationed on our newest asset, making it look like we're completly out of system. Then ambush them if the occasion arises."

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota nods and puts the dataslade down.

"My friends I believe we have been called by the archeo- / xenotech planet. I myself have experienced the message and Heinrich here seems to have had a similar experience. He has called it a dream just now but I have confirmed that it was a measurable message sent to us."
Iota presses a button on the meeting table and a holo projector opens in the center. A little "percusive maintenance" from Iota and the projector is actually in focus. What you can see is a bunch of statistical measurement data, with a notable purple bar highlighted, noted as 'aetheric energy readings'. Below this is a smaller dataview, listing a transcription of a talk with the astropathic choir on the ship which confirms a warp energy passing through the system towards the the quarters of the chief officers, coming from the direction of the alleged treasure planet. One sentence is highlighted "The warp energy felt clean, for lack of a better word."

"I'll let you study the data yourself in a moment but to summarize it: We have been sent a message from the alleged treasure planet. Using alleged 'clean' warp energy. And I am not sure what to think of it. Clean warp energy is an oxymoron if I ever heard one."

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota shows no signs at all indicating he would be taking offense to the question. He simply stays logical as he always has.

"Dreams are the effect on your concious mind when your subconciousness defragments your memories, most notably the most recent ones. Naturally I do still have this process running every so often so althought my perception of it has changed with the implants I do in fact still 'dream'.
But as you might have inferred from my quetsion what has happened tonight was not a dream. I will present my current information once everyone has gathered so it won't have to be repeated over and over."

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Let's assume the others are even later, since you're the first to post and you usually don't expect to get called to a previously unscheduled meeting first thing in the morning
Iota looks up and greets Heinrich
"Good morning, Heinrich. You look... less than well rested. May I assume you have been affected by the nightly message?"

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

What others see on arrival:

Iota has taken one of the side chairs of the meeting table, indicating that while he will kick off this meeting he does not intend to chair it.
He is also on a dataslate, clearly not wanting to leave time that could be spent working on _just_ waiting for everyone else

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Spoiler:
Iota nods to himself, having expected that. He also takes out a data disk and uploads a copy of his memories of the dream to it - just in case they somehow manage to fade from is otherwise perfect recollection. Warp stuf is supposed to be nasty like that.

Iota then gets up and checks the time. Not early anymore, it took a while to gather the data. Still he books a meeting room in theirresidence and sends a meeting request to the other high officers, dated to start in one hour or whenever all of them arrive before that.

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Spoiler:
Well, on one hand Iota wants to believe this but on the other hand almost all stories about demon incursions he ever heard start with something like 'well, we found a clean way to do warpy X' so he remains skeptical. Entusiastic. But sketical. But since the Choir has noticed the phenomenon he'll ask the to match its 'route' with the alleged archeo-/xenotech planet. And just to be sure also with the potential colony

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Spoiler:
Iota revels in the feeling of the Demons agony for as long as it lingers. So many were lost in that dark trip through the warp that brought him an Archibald together. It feels good to be the one inflicting torment on this creates.

Still - Prophetic dreams are not realy something in the purview of the Adeptus Mechanicus. If there is something calling out to him then there should be some traceable aura of it. And Iota tries his hardest to find that. He activates all the scanners available to him, which at least includes the full auspex scan from Variable but possibly more esotheric scanners if he has had time to bring them down from their ship. He also sends a message to the Ships Astropath, asking whether anything messagelike was detecable heading towards the direction of their quarters on the planet. If a heading is even a thing in the warp. But that's for the specialist to say.

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota spends most of these days linked to the MIU, sifting through all the available data. But first things first: While the prisoner himself is out of commission his equipment is not. Iota will first throughly check all his equipment for leads on where he came from, going as far as using AdMech rituals to question even the most primitve machine spirit for whatever they can tell him about themselves, their users and what they know about their whereabouts for as far back as they can remember.

I'm aware that most equipment does not _really_ have a machine spirit but that's not the AdMech view on it. The rituals are more like performing forensic techniques to find traceable particles. Ofc if there is higher level equipment in his possesion it is accesed and decode too thought

Tech Priest Magos Explorator WS41 BS36 S43 T41 A32 I51 Per37 Wil35 Fel37 Wounds: 12/12 Fate: 3/3

Iota pauses as he sees the electoo. His first query to his memorancer implant index brings up a noble house from a small planet 3 systems away. But that conclusion is in violation of basic logic - that world is not in possession of a notable system defense fleet, much less warp capable craft to arrive here.
He instead first starts a rebuild of his sub-image to memory index, then refines the search query some more. This time he does not come up with an exact match but instead finds that he has seen the electoo and number combination almos exclusively with ship crews. And since the style is not registered in the system(otherwise he would have that data available) he concludes that this must be from a privateer crew.

Iota then blinks, returning his attention back from working his inner logic engine and data stores to the "outside" world. And tries to get a feeling on how long it actually took to come to this conclusion. It felt like a while to him but time always stretches for him when he is in his inner world of data.

Iota takes this task gladly, stepping closer and using his utility mechadentrites to bare the mans shoulder and wrist without need to actually come into touch with him. Assassins tend to have tricks up their sleeves. Sometimes literally.
Still, what the man says needs a response, and a logical one might help when put that way here in public

"Ah my friend you have tasted freedom? Quite lucky for you in this galaxy I'm sure you will agree. And a basis on which a conclusion to attack the new 'oppressors' could become the logical solution. But I fear you have only been shown the privileges of freedom, not the responsibility it brings. Have you ever seen a system overrun by greenskins? The remains of those tortured by the vile dark kin xenos? Populations after the arch enemy overran the planet?
Make no mistake. Those in power would gladly throw off the Imperium and it is not even the fear of its own reprisel fleets that keeps them from doing it. It is the knowledge that they need its protection.
The truth to freedom in this Galaxy is to be under someone high enough in the hierarchy that THEY can decide what your freedom is, and pray to the Omnissiah that they decide to give you the freedom you crave.
And here we stand. Candidates to be your new higher ups. With the lord rogue trader having none between himself and the very lords on terra through the power of his writ. Free to give you the freedom you crave without loosing the protection we all require. And here you are trying to get rid of that chance for the whole planet, no the whole system..."

Iota sighs - yes he is still human enough to do that naturally - and "invites" Magister Sseretah to join them: "Magister, unless you have your own arrangements for this situation please follow me."

Whether or not the invitation is actually accepted, Iota will turn to join the Lord Rogue Trader and the honor guard. He will send out "Variable" to take a closer look at the commotion while retrieving his boltgun and power axe from the youngest of the honor guard. His hands move in an age old ritual, checking the gun being loaded and safety off and the power axe connected to the power source and its power field calibrated to spring into action at the press of its button. His mind meanwhile processes the auspex and visual information relayed by Variable.

Iota is a bit more reserved, not joining the cheer but answering the salute with his own glass.

A good speach, all the information, very little of the bombast.

If the speach is indead over then Iota has a bit of a list of targets to talk to.

The AdMech delegation for one.
Senior tech personel - but they won't look straight up "AdMech" on this planet. He'll instead look if any of the senior magister he met at the university are around and make note ob who talks to them.
And of course Magister and Alumni of the university.

He'll have Variable look out targets while he is currently talking with someone.

Iota still can't shake the uneasy feeling that teaching the masses about the Omnissiahs secrets even in passing is against the creed. But such is indoctrination - it does not come off easily.

Still he enjoys his time in this "University". It is a place of learning and of the Omnissiah despite its strange non-utilitarian design. He tries to strike up quick conversations with a student here and there to gauge their understanding and their intentions on what they want to do with the gained knowledge. He also attends a lecture or two and talks with the instructors about it afterwards.

In the end he feels quite taken in by the concept but in dire need to verify the numbers given to him by the Magos Magister so he can calm his concerns and focus on the concept itself.
If the numbers prove true then his new perspective is to broaden the range of apprentices under him if possible - more people working on experiments would generally mean faster and better results after all.

And he will of course continue his inspection the next day unless some more "accidents" happen.

Iota slowly nods but remains somewhat unconvinced.
"Still even those are subject to the decree of only passing knowledge to those who follow the Omnissiah. Your vision and approach seem admirable and quite frankly groundbreaking but I will be required to thoroughly check the authenticity of those numbers myself... But let us see your institution first. I suspect you have come personally to show me so I can see it in the best light possible, to address exactly those concerns"

Iota is taken back by the thought for a moment. Granting access to the secrets of the Omnissiah to the masses is not something that comes natural to the priesthood of Mars.

"That... is suprising. I can see the logic behind doing this and how it would make a world run smoother. After all most people on a forge world have at least some level of knowledge and it is what makes things run smoothly. But what about Abuse of the mysteries? Tech heresy? Accidents because of improper enactment of the rituals? What are the numbers on those?"

Iota nods and joins her in this vehicle. But noticably raises an eyebrow as he inspects it. He notes that it also deviates from established norm by modifying the STC of the chimera with... is that perhapts a hint of their own inventions?

Either way he continues the conversation while getting in - and riding in this strange new vehicles.

"I used to specialize in Xenologi. Freeing technology perverted by alien races from its perversion and returning it to the Omnissiahs glorius principles. But I have returned to being something more of an allrounder since I joined the Rogue Trader. Necessity you see.
As for staying and joining... We shall see what the future holds. I am not against joining you if it is the logical thing to do once we get to know eachothers circumstances and it is likely as a high amount of cooperation will be required either way. But a Rogue Traders mandate is to push the borders of the Imperium and so it is unlikely that he and thus by extension I will be able to stay here indefinitly.
Enough about me and the future thought. What is your own speciality? Magos ranks are usually very busy with their own efforts - from what endeavor have I drawn you by making you come greet me today?"

Iota is once again quite intrigued to find a high ranking member of the Adeptus Mechanicus that looks quite similar to himself. His only obvious augemntation being his utility mechadendrites despite his extensive head implants.

Still - nothing to do except go with the flow.

"Greetings, Magos Magister, may his pure logic guide our meeting. I am Iota Signus and althought I am the Explorator attached to Rogue Trader Thunderblossom I still go by my mechanicus rank of Magos.
It seems you have deviated from Mars doctrine somewhat as I neither recognize your rank nor your colors. Do you recognize these deviations and have a mapping available for me?"

Iota is very intrigued by this "University" thing. It sounds neither like the basic education the imperial citizens receive at a schola nor like the tech apprenticeship favored on the worlds of the Omnissiah.

Still - he has duties to the ship that must be observed first.
He activates the Hololith and it slowly crackles and fizzes into live, revealing the expected form of Iotas second in command - simply called "Second"
"Omnnisiahs blessing, Second. The ships maintenance is on schedule, yes? Of course. Any delays beyond the expected parameters? Very good. Keep up the Machine Gods work up there.
Daily status report ends with this but I have one more task for you. I will conduct a new experiment to measure whether or not 'Luck' is a quantifiable resource unevenly allocated to specific personel. No I also do not believe it is but the Omnissiah expects us to find the truth in all things and recent events down here have caused me to investigate this matter.
Procedure shall be that you offer test subjects the following conditions via announcement: standard pay for time served. Bonus pay for those that can be statisitcally shown to be quantifiably 'lucky' or 'unlucky'. Testing shall be done by repeating a simple dice game until sufficent attempts are provided to categorize as 'large numbers'. I'll leave the exact numbers to you"

Iota does not have any credible immediate actions to take after the attack - he does not have anything on hand to follow the assassin or to treat the wounds of the rogue trader. He opts to stay close in case other attacks follow even if they thankfully do not.
"I have already set up an inspection of the local technology centers. This will give me further ingress into the hierarchy of command on the technical side. Influencing the incoming delegation will be trickier but I will see what can be done.
I however advise against putting up a deliberate show of weakness, Archibald. Remember even if you do have a man on the inside you still need to win the hearts and minds of not just the influential people but also of the populace at large.
There have been numerous archive entries about a beloved ruler candidate being seemingly assassinated and then later showing him or herself to be alive and using the relieve felt by the masses to cement their status as the next monarch. But you are not yet the candidate beloved by the masses just because you are the the Lord Mayors favorite candidate. He is a man of logic, reason and understanding. The masses are not."

Iota takes a moment longer than his comrades to switch into battle mode but he has the advantage that he neither sits often nor does the average chair hold the weight of him with his mechanicus implants. Having stood next to Archibald during the talk he simply draws his power axe and swings at the assailant

Iota will be there as soon as he made sure his expirements are all in a "waiting for new results" stage.
However before he allows Archibald to tell them anything he'll have "Variable" flit around the whole room, with its Auspex primed to scan for recording and/or surveilance equipment. These are rooms prepared for them after all. And bribing Serfs to install equipment to know what others are planning would seem like a reasonable investment to Iota.

Iota is not the centerpiece of the procession like Archibald is but he needs to stand out as a senior officer and as Magos of the Adeptus Mechanicus. And so Archibald does not really need to insist very hard. But it's best that the others feel that Iota has to be dragged to public displays like that. It significantly reduces the amount of appearances he has to make. Which means more time for his research projects.
And so he accompanies Archibald in the AdMech equivalent of dress robes - meaning clean robes with slightly more cogwheel embroideries and a large display of the Rogue Traders crest alongside the AdMech Skull symbol.
He's accompanied by some of the more senior tech priests of the ship, each with their own junior assistants. Two heavy duty servitors just in case something does come up. And of course his trusty servo skull "Variable".

Iota is quite impressed. A paradise world usually implies a low-ish level of tech as to not destroy the natural beauty but the presence of nearspace survilance speaks against that. So the preliminary conclusion would be a sufficient technology to prop up a space faring civilization AND keep the nature alive.

Iota is extatic about finding that canon - but he will not permit the use of straight out Xenotech. He will study the thing very closely to determine whether HE will recognize it as Xenotech, in need of reverse engineering before being allowed to be deployed, or as Archeotech that is fine to be used even while barely understood. Maybe there is something about the cannon in the data cores that have already been sifted through?

Coming together for the meeting however brings him back to looking at the bigger picture.
"By now most of my staff has been down. I do not anticipate problems from this however. Secrecy about where the Omnissiahs bounties have been found is absolutly integral to all tech personel. And those that are not willing or not able to comply are sentenced to mind scrubbing under paragraph 48 section 3 of the ships rules. Usually happens within 5 months of the initial recruitment or not at all.
That said statistics indicate that tech team 14 is progressing the fastest with any given task down here so they will receive the honor. The disappointment of leaving here will spur the rest of the tech teams to greater achievments when we return."

Iota himself is dressed as he always is when going planetside - red Adeptus Mechanicus robes, his trusty power axe visibly on his back and boltgun on his hip. Variable is with him, his trusty servo skull, along with a bulky power servitor and two tech adepts that have previously distinguished themselves.

"Interesting. So it was involuntarilly after all. Still - how do you go from getting bombarded by space debry to being an underground part of it? Also: how can an entire planet be shattered? Exterminatus level bombardment leaves the world a barren rock, not exploding into space.
Still, there were some rumors that during or after the heresy traitor homeworlds got that treatment. I can't imagine the level of firepower needed thought. I could calculate it of course but still..."

"Which is why I said it is too early to give a definite answer. But let's not be hasty here. We still have plenty of time to explore and still catch the meeting with time to spare."

The blinking panel catches Iotas eye but so does the rest of the room. He will examine all the panels he comes across, not just the blinking one in the back.

Iota takes a look around the bridge and shakes his head.

"It is too early to give a definite answer. But my preliminarry assessment is: no they did not land a capital ship here. Otherwise the corridors would not be made out of stone and retain more of a ship shape. Besides we are under ground. Ships don't 'land' under ground. Not to mention that style of settlement is mostly pre-imperial. Some say it is even predates the age of strife.
Anyway. We have a bridge and we have two drive units. Extrapoliting from the accessable data would suggest they have in fact turned this stellar body into a space craft."

Well this is ancient and valuable equipment waiting to explode when we power things on.

Iota unclips the vox from his belt and selects the channel his tech retinue uses: "The first step will be to get the doors powered. Map out where all the cables in this installation go, with a priority on those that connect to door mechanisms. Mark those out for me specifically. Once you're done I sanction the junior tech priests to sanctify the door mechanisms. Use the catechism of slow awakening it will take time to get the drives properly inspected and their spirits appeases and roused. Asses whether additional personel will make the task more efficient and route requests through me."

He himself takes on the task of first inspecting the drives, then performing the long overdue maintenance rituals. Eventually when he is satisfied that he knows the condition of the drives exactly(and it is satisfactory of course) he will make sure that he can release the power to the station one cable at a time. So they can inspect one section before moving on to the next.

Iota raises one eyebrow as he turns to see Archibald stride away to the next issue. He hasn't had men at arms directly under him since his Xenos hunter days. And that fated meeting with Archibald. And he feels a pang of nostalgia at this.
Still - he is much more senior now than he was back then. No need to micromanage the troops.
"Sergeants. You have your orders from the Lord Rogue Trader. For everything else just follow your training. This is just a basic recon sweep except no accidental discharges may hit the generators. You may proceed."

Iota will stay clear of the room while the troops are at work, giving them room to do their own thing. Once, or if the clear is signaled he'll go in himself and check out the conditions of those ancient plasma drives - required maintenance, fuel level, connections, overload protection.
Also: are they coupled in a failover configuration or is there actually something on this station that needs enough power that two large spaceship engines must work together to supply the energy?
