Alchemical Refinement is one of several abilities you can choose. If your character doesn't have a means of crafting in Society (such as multiclassing as an Investigator or Alchemist), then I'd recommend choosing one of the other Cunning Edge abilities in place of a bonus feat.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

That's why my Investigator used one, and not my Alchemist. 4d6 was a game-ender at Level 1, but only mediocre by Level 7. An Alchemist with a high Int modifier does equivalent damage by like Level 3, for free.

I'm curious why a GM wouldn't let you Take 10.

There is no rule term...I mean...unmixed.

I must be missing something obvious.

You can put an "unmixed", "pure", or otherwise unmodified "store bought" item through the funnel.

You cannot put a mixture through the funnel.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

I am not familiar with what constitutes a "pure" item. Do you have a link?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My Half-Elf Investigator used this to great effect for his first 7 levels, though. He combined Artokus's Fire with a Slime Grenade for a 66gp consumable that dealt 2d6 fire, 2d6 acid. Range of only 5ft, but it ended more than one low level boss.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

"A mixture cannot be combined with another mixture."

Take 20 isn't possible with Craft anyways, so that's out.

Take 10 is allowed as normal. Effectively that does mean Investigators and Alchemists have a "buy 1 get 2 free" sale going on.

If Taking 10 wouldn't get you the results you want, then you'd have to roll in front of a GM and pay for failures.

I'd recommend only Taking 10.

This is not correct as both attack rolls and saves are a form of check.

Check: A check is a d20 roll which may or may not be modified by another value. The most common types are attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and saving throws.

Good find.

I will have to search to see where I found my information.

It's how I've been describing the game since I began.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

I am not being obtuse. I was correcting an erroneous statement you made.

"+3 to Diplomacy" means "a +3 bonus to your Diplomacy Skill Check".

In our casual conversation we may shorten that to "Diplomacy Check", but there is no such thing.

It is a "Diplomacy Skill Check".

This tangent was in response to your "Tangential to Versitile Performance" edit.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

There are only three types of d20 rolls in Pathfinder: Attacks, Saves and Checks.

The proper term is "Skill Check".

There is no distinction between "Skills" and "Checks".

The second result when Googling 'pathfinder versatile performance.'

That link leads to a comment by James Jacobs.

Although much of Golarion lore was created by him, James Jacobs is not a rules authority. He dislikes being quoted in rules discussions, because his words describe how he, personally, would rule something in his home game.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

Can you link to what you found?

It might help me with my Investigator.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

Yeah I considered flagging it myself but thought the question was a Rules Question using a PFS example.

Dark Archive 5/5 5/55/5 ***

If you're rolling Perform instead of Bluff, you wouldn't gain any bonuses you have for Bluff, but you would gain any bonuses for Perform.

Otherwise you'd be "double dipping" a lot of bonuses.

It would also mean that others couldn't roll Bluff to Aid Another your Perform check. My Investigator rolls Linguistics in place of many social skills, but since Linguistics is Trained Only there are fewer characters available to Aid Another with.

In regards to "table variation", the default would be that you couldn't use the Faction Pin on your checks, but some GMs (probably myself included) would likely handwave it since you spent money on the Campaign.

As long as you can succeed at the DC 15 + Spell level Spellcraft check, nothing prevents you from adding higher level spells than you can cast to your spellbook.

^ reiterating this.

Same for Alchemists/Investigators and their formula books as well.

What game are you running next?

Dark Archive

[retired]

Grab a new sheet of paper, total up your gold from all Chronicles (minus whatever you spent on consumables) and draft up a new character, essentially.

Dark Archive

[retired]

Nope. That's one benefit of playing a Pregen over a regular character. Anything you consume is on the Pregen, not your actual character.

Especially useful for Level 1 Pregens vs Rebuilding your own Level 1.

Dark Archive

And I didn't even use Inspiration ^_^

Dark Archive

He can't fail that Religion check, and so will relay that uneasy knowledge to the party.

"Something tells me the Crows should handle Morlan."

Boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 19
W00T!: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Dark Archive

Ooo! If it's not too late, Move Action: Study for +2 Attack

Dark Archive

Sickened cancels out Bard Song; Range/Cover cancels out my Dex/BAB; –4 in melee; Spend 2 points of Inspiration

"Stand... Very... Still... Miss Amiri..."

5 foot step directly behind Amiri.

Molotov Cocktail: 1d20 - 4 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (16) - 4 + (1) + 1 = 14 (vs Touch)
2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12 Acid 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 Fire

Dark Archive

You won't actually gain any AC from Protection from Evil because it's the same type of bonus (deflection) as the +2 Ring of Protection we gave you earlier.

That poem about something old and something new was clever, though!

I burst out laughing, and when my roommate asked what was so funny I ended up having to explain the entire party and our names to provide context =)

I have to say, pun intended, that your posts "take the cake" Amiri!

I hope our paths cross online again after this ^_^

Probably the most enjoyable Amiri I've ever encountered.

Dark Archive

Double move into the hallway, beast in sight.

My, my. Miss Amiri is practically *glowing*! And Mr. Singh is an inspiration of form and function. How Miss Parrym can cartwheel on the wing in these confined spaces is impressive. And I hope one day I can claim as much experience as Miss Esmeralda has clearly shown. Hmm... Where's that silly fox-man?

Dark Archive

[retired]

That artery has to be here *somewhere*!

Coup de Grace, Studied Strike: 2d6 + 2 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 + (3) + 2 = 13

(Inspire Courage and Sickened cancel each other out)

Dark Archive

[retired]

Hmm... She does have a good point... Immolation might be faster than sawing at his neck with a Rapier...

Dark Archive

"Much like my skill at arms, nothing about this creature is decent."

Dark Archive

If you'll let me CDG, sure, but I wasn't adjacent to him and so figured I had to move first.

Dark Archive

Sorry for the delay! Long day at work.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

The Inspector vomits a little in his mouth.

Kn.Dungeoneering, Sickened: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 13 + (3) + 1 - 2 = 23

Oh I think now is the perfect time for a 5-Star Reroll...

Kn.Dungeoneering, Reroll: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 + 1 - 2 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 13 + (2) + 1 - 2 + 5 = 35

^_^

"Miss Amiri, I strongly recommend using the smaller blade against this foe. I will handle the unconscious Keeper. You and Mr. Singh should concentrate on our new aberrant friend."

The Inspector closes with the Keeper and slices his throat.

Rapier, Study, Song, Sickened: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 22
Damage, Study, Song, Sickened: 1d6 + 1 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 5

Move behind Amiri, Study Crove.

"You were destined to be sacrificed yourself. We are here to prevent that. You can thank us as your last breath."

Can't Crit Elementals.

Delay until we revisit town and I purchase some scrolls to act as a secondary party buffer =\

Dark Archive

The Inspector spends his full round lecturing about the finer points of Chaos Beast evolution (and devolution).

Really nothing I can do from back here anyways; really nothing I could do even if I was in front, Lol!

Dark Archive

[retired]

I beat the higher DC by 5. If I get an extra question I'd want to know Special Defenses.

Handling Knowledge checks in PbP is understandably difficult. I'd assume I know type and subtypes but that's information I as a GM immediately give out, and I recognize not all GMs do.

Dark Archive

[retired]

Drat, already used Tireless Logic today.

Kn.Planes: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 13 + (4) + 1 = 32

"Oh, dear. This is a Chaos Beast (I assume everyone can access the spoilered information?). I doubt it is *the* beast we're looking for. It would have broken out of this room had that been the case."

The Inspector readies his Molotov Cocktail in one hand and his Rapier in the other.

"Do we want to engage this creature now? Or finish looking everywhere else? It may be guarding another exit, or this may just be a dead end."

Move action: study it, assuming my knowledge check allows me to do so.

Dark Archive

[retired]

Oh! Just looked at the map. So this appears to be the end? We have to face the eye to go further?

Dark Archive

[retired]

"These... Creatures... Are distracting us from our primary goal."

Heal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

"Oleg here is even further beyond the others in terms of needing assistance. Miss Amiri, in the interest of sharing this burden as a group, I'll spare you the indignity."

Study, Coup de Grace, Studied Strike
Fort DC: 2d6 + 2 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 + (5) + 2 = 17

The Inspector quickly and quietly inserts his Rapier up through the base of Oleg's bandaged skull, then lays him back on the gurney and closes his eyes.

"We need to find Crove."

Dark Archive

[retired]

Is it possible to see Morlan? Or is it like a steel door?

Dark Archive

[retired]

Yeah I was initially thinking Undead but after the descriptions (and the Bane weapon) I'm definitely leaning towards something else.

Dark Archive

[retired]

How close are we to finishing?

I'm signed up for a Convention two weeks from this upcoming Friday =/

Dark Archive

[retired]

"Indeed, Miss Parrym. I believe his name is 'Morlan'. My Undercommon is a bit rusty, though. Little practical use above ground."

The Inspector clears his throat and leans next to the door.

"Morlan wa kyō nani o tabetaidesu ka?"

Undercommon:
"What would Morlan like to eat today?"

Dark Archive

Itll log me out after 5 minutes of inactivity (plus site Goblins).

I've been Ctrl+C'ing everything before I post.

Dark Archive

Doh! Just noticed we have 10 potions of Cure Moderate =\.

I already marked my ITS, but good to remember for future.

Dark Archive

Looking at the map, have we explored the bottom right white rectangle? Since we just came from there we should check that out.

Dark Archive

The Inspector holds out a pearlescent wand towards Parrym.

"Just one application, my dear. Shame it won't do anything for my trouser leg."

27 charges remaining; puts me at 32/33 hp.

Appraise: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

"The rest of this mess is rubbish."

Dark Archive

[retired]

The creature she's swinging at might be tougher than 20hp.

Not sure if it's Paizo's site or the new Android 8.0 update.
