Hiro continues to monitor the machine.

You will of course have to deal with all of his images again. I believe he cast Mirror Image on round 1.

Hiro looks at the big ball of electricity again and shrugs. He then turns his gaze to the altar and the codex, perhaps there is something he can do here. "I wonder if completing the ritual will get rid of that ball of lightning."

He examines the codex and observes the machine's ticks and tocks looking for something that might explain why so much energy is being released; operating the switches and levers he tries to maintain a sense of control. Over the din and confusion he shouts at Ascalar, "You may have just sealed your coffin, friend! I recommend taking better aim if you choose to unleash any further destruction!"

Not sure if there is anything I can really do to control the machine. I'd like to stop the random lighting bolts and possibly dissipate some of the charge in the air.

Hiro forgoes the attack of opportunity since his weapons are not ready. Instead he brings to bear his arcane abilities, calling for his natural elemental forces, "氷のような火災、真で目指します。霜の光線が行う必要があります。"

As his incantation ends, a blue glow encompasses his hand for but a moment before the icy blue beam shoots out from his pointing finger.

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 2 = 22
Damage: 1d3 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1

"Just peckin' on the surface! He says noting how ineffective his attack was.

Hiro's hair stands on end as he enters the room and approaches the altar. Finding a suitable place he sets down the codex and opens it to the portion that he found discussing the powdered statuette. After the briefest of reviews he begins to operate the machine. He frequently examines the codex and liberally sprinkles the dust from the statuette.

"I think it's doing something!" He calls, obviously unsure that anything has actually changed.

Hiro holds up the codex, "I don't see any reason not to be the first. After all it is just a simple matter of operating the machine. Before I try though, how about smashing this thing into dust for me Baldwyn?"

He places the statuette he snagged in the first room, that met the description found in the codex, on the floor before the strong warrior. "I just need a few pinches or so... I think"

"Mr. Ascalar you need not follow us into these rooms. Feel free to wait here for our return and we will ensure you get free of this vault. However, we have a task to complete and so must venture forth. Says Hiro before following Takkit through the room, "Stony faces always give me the creeps." He whispers as he helps check for traps.

"Looks clear, gonna open this set too." He says as the party indicates they are ready to move on.

Once more Hiro lifts the codex to the doors and with a subtle shift of air and a stirring of dust they part to reveal the next chamber.

Takkit, moved your token based on your action statement above and mine.

Hiro stays his dagger thrusts and listens to the man. When the chance is provided, "The dirty Aspis. Well, we are here with a purpose grander than trinket snatching. Though this one will be quite useful. We have need to delve deeper into this place. Pausing he looks around at the others.

"I have no problem with you tagging along so long as you mind your manners and not attack us again."

He then waits for the others to forward any differing opinions before opening the double doors with the codex.

Round 4

Hiro moves in to attack the caster that Takahiro has been attacking, "It's so odd that he doesn't fight back." The kitsune thinks.

Will vs. Hellfire: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 1 = 13
Will vs. Illusion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Cold Iron Dagger Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 1 - 2 = 18
Damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1

I think we are actually on round 4. not that there are very many spells active with round durations short enough to matter.

Hiro looks over at Takahiro, "Wonder what's taking him so long, the guy isn't even armored" he thinks.

Yeah, I think this is the end of round 3.

Round 3

"Try not to bunch up, that's just what spell casters look for. The dwarf is around the corner to the south." Says Hiro, pointing, as he quickly crosses the room to get a better view of the battlefield.

Double move.

We are not 300 feet from the end of the hallway, just that it extends behind where we are for some distance. For instance, Baldwyn is right at the end of the hallway. and you are 10 feet behind him currently.

Will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 plus evasion

Forgot the -2 for sickened above, but still pass all saves so no fear and no damage.

Round 2

Blind to the hellhounds' fear, Hiro moves in to attack one of the fiery beasts. "Let's see how you like this steel!" He calls charging his cold iron dagger with magical energy and stabbing at the thing.

Cold Iron Dagger attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 2 = 22
Damage: 1d4 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 2 = 3 cold iron and magic

Round 1

Hiro speaks quietly as his daggers flash in his hands, "氷や霜は私の盾となって出てくると私の命令に屈します." A shimmer of blue flashes before him then becomes invisible.

"Bugbears with humans and dwarves? This place makes no sense." Says the kitsune as he advances down the hallway ready to dodge ranged magical attacks.

Cast shield and move 30 feet. No actual readied action, other than Evasion.

If I understand correctly, we are trapped in a 300 foot tunnel and Takkit should be 1 square up on the map. Or are there nooks we can take cover in?

Hiro reserves the scroll he purchased until such time as it will be more useful.

Passing into the tapestry, the kitsune almost hurls on the floor when he arrives.

"Ugh. This place looks inviting?" He says pulling out his dark and light daggers again, as he sniffs the air.

Magnetic Basal Ganglia: You always know which way is north as per the know direction spell

Hiro takes advantage of the short break to acquire the recommended magical scroll.

"Thank you Takahiro, a most gracious suggestion."

"Into a vault huh? Well, maybe the statuette will be located there." Says Hiro as he reviews the passage that gave in the information to see if there was any kind of description other than Ivory.

"Hmm, the text says we will need to crush the statue into powder. Might be best of we have some kind of mortar and pestle. Perhaps a hammer would work as well." Looking around at the other's weapons he notes that Baldwyn's hammer will likely get the job done.

"Master Zey,there was something about an ivory statuette of the lich Takaral, a divine servant of Nethys. Do you know where this item might be located?" Asks Hiro, "The attunement ritual would be easier if we obtain it first."

Hiro returns to his natural kitsune form and leads the group in deciphering the codex, "Well, I'm already pink and I know the language." He adds flipping through some of the pages.

"It's truly a masterful work Aries, but yes I have it facing the correct way." Though he does take a moment to examine the text in other orientations in case that is part of the riddle.

yip calls Hiro showing that he of course still understands the rest of the group.

The hot pink fox, jumps up on its back legs in shock. He sets back down on all fours and circles about a bit before settling down.

When Zannah joins the group, the fox brushes against her legs. "Well, a caster could have a bizarre pet..." Hiro thinks.

"I have an interesting idea to disguise the book while we travel. Perhaps you wouldn't mind if I carried it?" Says Hiro holding out his hand for the codex.

"I would assume that even though she was retired from her profession, others would seek this codex. If I carry it I can take another form and disguise its location almost completely." Adds the kitsune in explanation.

I intend to use Fox Shape to transform into my fox form. This should cause the gear in my possession to meld with my form.

When you cast a polymorph spell that changes you into a creature of the animal, dragon, elemental, magical beast, plant, or vermin type, all of your gear melds into your body.

"I'll take a look..." Says Hiro as he draws forth the inner forces needed to see magic.

"力の氷と気を集め、私のビジョンマジックに参照してください" As he completes the incantation his eyes glow an icy blue and the air around him cools several degrees.

Examining the auras of the items closely, "Hmmm, yes I see. Maybe..."

Spellcraft for potion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Spellcraft for gem: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

"You know, I think Zannah might be able to help as well. He says looking for the lady.

Okay, I have to say something. It is just bothering me way too much.

Sior, what bothers me the most about Baldwyn's actions is that you felt you had to specifically state that the "evil" act of slaying an incapacitated intelligent creature was in character based solely on an aribtray stat called alignment.

A chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those others suffer). A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random.

You did follow it up with some in character fluff to mitigate the "blow".

Additionally, you just assumed that all of the other characters would follow your suggestion to leave you alone with the helpless enemy. As Hiro has not adventured with Baldwyn before, I took a hint from Nik and rolled a sense motive check. I believe it is good form to allow others a chance to state thier own actions vice assuming they do as desired by someone else.

With regard to Baldwyn's actions, I do believe that they could certainly be within character. I just get really concerned when someone feels they have to justify actions with alignment.

I don't really want this to become a flame war, but I had to get it off my chest and frankly I don't think my wife wants to hear about it. Based on this, I will not reply to any further comments about this situation, though I do intend to determine if Hiro notices the body when he returns to the ground floor of the book store. If he does, it will likely lead to in character discussion about the situation.

"Well, we certainly don't need any more High and Mighty dragons flittiing about. Probably just leave you to your thoughts after we find what we came for." says the eager young kit as he begins to look around the store.

Sesne Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

"Yeah, upstairs. Doesn't seem to be much down here anyway." So Hiro heads up the stairs to continue to search for the codex.

Just before reaching the third floor he hears the telltale swish of a blade trap and rushes to see if everyone is okay. Peering into the room he notes the blood from Aries' and Takkit's new wounds, as well as the trap mechanism in the cabinet. "Personally, I would have tried looping that wire over that spring and tucking the trigger into them both. Might have kept the blades in." He offers encouragingly to Takkit not realizing his words might also be annoying.

"Would that be enough, she'd probably just pick them with her finger nails. Best tie her tight with heavy rope." Says Hiro as he checks outside once more before closing the door. He checks for a lock and possibly a sign that says the shop is closed.

Round 3

Hiro steps in to flank the guard wearing the red tabard, hoping to end the fight as soon as possible.

Mithral dagger attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19
Mithral damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sneak Attack damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7

Round 2

Hiro resigns himself to the combat, flipping the sign on the door as he charges his blade with magical energy and stabs at the guard in the red tabard with his mithral blade.

"I wonder how many repeat customers she gets with service like this!?"

Round 1

Hiro's gaze returns from the street to see Takkit on the elven woman like a savage beast and Takahiro's blade flashing through the air.

"THE NINE HELLS! We don't even know what the book looks like!" He gasps... "Try to take her alive!"

Round 1

Oh no, here we go again. Why do they always want to resort to fighting. Thinks Hiro about the Society's contacts as he goes into a defensive possture while checking for city guards outside the small shop.

Hiro will spend this round in total defense and check to see if anyone outside is taking interest in the activities within the book shop.

Seeing that things have escalated beyond words, Hiro resigns himself to combat; he shifts about looking for a good place to flank the guards. I hope some one else can take care of the elf...

Entering the shop, Hiro takes but a moment to look around before noticing Baldwyn's threatening pose. "Awful lot of posturing for a book. Surely we can at least discuss things before becoming violent."

Then in Tien, "我々は、それはあなたでなければならない、この店を所有しているエルフの愛人を求めています。あなたは私たちの要求を聞くのだろうか?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Hiro aids Takahiro with the armor, "I hope a solution presents itself. I do not enjoy stealing things from others. Taking in jest sure, but not stealing."

Once the armoring is complete, Hiro shoulders his pack and moves towards the door. "Let us go see what we can do about obtaining this tome."

"Not sayin' I can't handle a fight, just prefer not to. If you know what I mean." Says Hiro, squaring his shoulders for a moment.

"I don't think we'll be going into the tapestry, Aeris. My lady just said her shop is here in the city. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about this locale, but it shouldn't be too hard to find the place."

Thinking for a minute, the kit twirls a strand of yarn before asking, "You say she retired, but have the Xun actually let her go?"

"Doesn't sound like she is going to want to part with the tome. Do we have anything to offer in trade?" asks the young kitsune hopefully before adding in a more dour tone, "Or should we expect to fight her to claim the prize?"

Swaying his feet in tight circles about the floor he mumbles shyly with his head down, "I'm not much for fighting if it can be helped."

"Wow, so many wonderfully different people! This will be a most exciting adventure!" Yipp Calls the young and excitable kitsune.

Hey guys, Hiro is a fun character I made (ie not optimized). I am working towards Arcane Trickster. He is likely best with ranged surprise attacks (should they become available) or adding a little damage with sneak attacks from flanking. I think i can cover the common DRs, though I am missing aligned weapons.

I'm a bit confused by Baldwyn's statement about provoking an AoO from being tripped? I am not sure where falling provoking an AoO is explained.

"Seems you may be Baldwyn. Nice to meet each of you." Says Hiro as he shakes his hair out and reverts to his normal appearance. His silvery snowy coat a polar opposite of Takkit.

Joining the others for tea, Hiro exhibits less manners than Takkit, but keeps his excitement and shenanigans in check. "Haven't met many like us around here." He says in Takkit's direction, and towards Takahiro, "You seems shiny. I think I like you."

It is fairly obvious that this fox folk has not seen many seasons in the company of those of his homeland.

Done and done.

Baldwyn notices the approach of a small Tien man, he has short cropped silvery hair and large consuming amber eyes. In his hands a coin is being flipped about as he walks. He wears a fine cloak and a silvery shirt over more common attire. The hilts of a couple simple daggers can been seen on his belt, but no other weapons are plainly obvious. A simple pack with two side pockets seems to flop on his back as he skips up to the meeting place.

"Hello there Sir Porcupine! I am known as Hiro." Says the Tien in common with a chipper tone. You note almost no accent in his speech.

Hiro would like to purchase the pack (a Handy Haversack (2000 gp)) and 50 cold iron sling bullets (1 gp) on his way through town.

Reporting for duty.

Based on my calculations we are currently in low tier. I hope this does not bother the group.

Hiro spends too much time flitting here and there for the Society and in the whirlwind of changing Factions he hasn't found the time to focus on anything that would be considered a Day Job.
