"By the love of all things arrggghhh!" Herrick screams as he whips his sword from its sheathe and swings it desperately at the blackness. Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24, Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Con check vs DC 13: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Herrick winces as the acrid smoke burns his eyes and nostrils, but he has been in harrowing circumstances before. Not knowing how best to aid Jak, he turns the lad on his side so that he can hopefully breath more easily and tried to clear the black substance from his mouth and nose.

"A man's life is worth more than a few coins. We will pay whatever is required." Herrick seems particularly annoyed that the man is haggling with them at a time like this, especially after all they have gone through to bring him all the way here.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by a combined check, but will continue to try to move Jak toward where we are being lead. "Try to stay calm, boy!" Herrick grumbles as he tries to move the lad with all possible speed. Str: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Herrick is glad that the impasse with the ferryman has been resolved. Before they board the raft, he takes a bag and creates in improvised hood for the mule. He takes out a few bites of his pemmican and feeds it to the animal as he leads it off of dry land. "Better if the mule doesn't see where we're going. Being on the water might spook him and I don't feel like rescuing both it an Jak from drowing. Speaking of which ..." The soldier then strips off his metal armor and secures it, his shield, and his weapons to the deck before they depart.

We weren't done on Sunday, but the province closed the facility not letting in any visitors, so I had to bring stuff of theirs to my garage. Had difficulties getting the keys to the house out to give to the new owners of their house. Wild times. Yikes, that's scary. I'm worried about my elderly parents as well, especially my mom who is on her way back from South America at the moment.

Out of a sense of shared community, I'd like to ask some questions if I may. Are you staying at home or still working? How's it going, and where do you live? I'll go first. I live in Oregon and have been home with my son since his school was cancelled. I'm currently unemployed, but my wife is still working. Thankfully it's a very small office so her risk of exposure is low. We've limited out access to others and no longer go to places with large groups of people, but have been taking nice walks on our own or with a friend of my son's. So far so good.

Herrick nods to Gilhaut. "If you must, priest." Despite his gruff demeanor, the taciturn soldier seems happy to have some companionship after the strange encounter with the wolves. When Malthus begins playing, however, his regular personality comes back in droves. "Hey, Beardson, shut your strings. People are trying to sleep."

Herrick agrees that traveling to the Ferry to try and find a cure for Jak takes precedent. "We can also just bugger off somewhere else where this lady can't find us. I have no need to be absolved of whatever imaginary wrong she believes we have done. She's not my commander or my lord, so she can just stuff it."

Herrick's eyes grow wide as the wolf transforms into a women, but keeps his stance in front of the squishier party members. He leaves the talking to others but lowers his sword so as not to piss of anyone, especially the wolves. Is she naked?

Hi folks, I'm FINALLY back, sorry for the long delay. I had a combination of a writing deadline, a new house fiasco, and then my wife and I had our car totaled (while we were in it). We're thankfully both fine, but I've been dealing with the insurance stuff, plus trying to find a new car. I could have been more in touch, and I'm sorry for that, but things have calmed down again.

Malthus Beardson wrote: Wow, during my profile stalking, I found that you wrote PFS School of Spirits, Herrick? I loved that scenario, and have run it on the boards right here as PbP. Great fun and nice NPCs - especially the little plant dude. Thanks, Malthus. That's one of the most favorite things I've written, and the little dude is always a lot of fun to play.

Sorry for dropping off the radar for a week, folks. I'm in the middle of finishing work on an unannounced writing project that's due next week, and let's just say that my writing process is less than efficient. I will be back soon, I promise!

Herrick drops into a defensive stance with shield raised high when he hears Gilhaut's call of help. His eyes look at all the exits and barks a short command to the paladin. "Nesserin, head up the rope and see what's going on! You're more spry than I am. I'll stay behind and make sure no one eats the bard."

Herrick carefully lays Malthus against the side of the tunnel and takes out his sword and shield. "I"ll guard the bottom of the pit while the rest of you climb up. I'll tie the bard to the rope and you can pull him up, then I'll climb up myself."

DM Aumakua wrote: With only one rope it seems that Jak will need to go up first to secure more ropes. What are the rest of you going to do during this time. I'll probably be carrying the bard, which means I've got him slung over my shoulder while my other arm holds my sword; my shield is slung over my back.

Herrick takes a few moments to collect himself as the fear slowly begins to leave him. Once he has regained his normal laconic composure, he helps Jak destroy the remains of the body, hacking up all the body pieces with his sword until they are in very small pieces. "Lets's get out of here and regroup. I'm worried about Cole and the bard needs some serious help as well."
