Male Human Ranger 1
Thanks for the game, TerraNova, I really enjoyed this campaign while it lasted. I hope everything goes as well as it can with RL, good luck!
I'm on the fence about maybe taking over this game, if you'all would be interested? I would try to keep TerraNova's vision alive with the shockingly bad archaeology and the non-standard adventures for the Shiv. I would try to add a character, cleric or inquisitor, for party balance.
This will be my first game GMing a PbP. I've been in PbP games for about half a year now, prior to that I've been a GM for 27 years starting with the D&D red box in the mid-80s.
I'd be happy with a game by DeathQuaker as well.
Male Human Ranger 1
I liked your contributions Rune, Siera was a fun character, good luck with your future games.
Male Human Ranger 1
I'll be going to PaizoCon this weekend, so probably no new posts from me from Thursday through Sunday night
Male Human Ranger 1
"Zababa has the right of it, let's get the Hells out of here." Henry echoes the words of the halfling as he makes his way to the rope, bringing up the rear guard as the rest of the party starts escaping the subterranean chamber.
Male Human Ranger 1
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Henry has 6 hp remaining
"Zababa, get that ring, we can't hold out much longer!" Henry continues slashing away at the rats, hoping to drive back the swarm.
Kukri attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 71d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Male Human Ranger 1
"Zababa, you've got the best jumping legs among us, get a running start and get to that platform. N'gawa and I will hold off the rats while you get that ring and check out the alter. Misha, Siera, Tshilaba, concentrate damage on the rats, but beware the pattern on the floor that Zababa pointed out. The roof of this place is gonna collapse soon, let's hurry before we're buried in this makeshift tomb."
Rats, I hate rats, though they might make some good eating over the fire tonight.
Henry strides forward, drawing his kukri and slashing at the beasts while providing space for Zababa to make his running leap.
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

here, and there in the game
Male Human Ranger 1
"Careful there Misha, something killed it, don't fall prey to the same trap or whatever it might have been."
Concerned with possible threats presented by the alter/well/platform thing, Henry keeps an eye on it, trying to discern it's purpose.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Knowledge(Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 if archaeology or history would be more appropriate add +1
Male Human Ranger 1
As his breathing returns to normal, Henry flashes his grin at Misha and gives her shoulder a squeeze. "Thanks Misha, that was a bit silly of me not taking my time with the rope."
Recovered from his fall, Henry looks about the chamber, curious about their surroundings.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Male Human Ranger 1
woot! shockingly bad archaeology commencing...
With a grin, Henry grabs the rope and follows Sasha down into the chamber below. "This island is getting more and more interesting, let's see what we can find hidden on the Shiv."
Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
ha! shockingly bad climbing at the least. how soft is Sasha?
The rain and mud leave Henry with a poor grip and as soon as he slides over the edge the rope burns through his hands dropping him to the chamber below.
falling damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) = 8
With a whoosh, the breath is knocked from Henry as he sprawls painfully on the floor of the chamber below. After a minute he catches his breath and lurches to his feet, holding his ribs. In a wheezing voice he calls out to the others above. "It's great, come on down."
Henry is down to 4 hp, is Rafflesia still with us?
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry considers the risky climb, but decides a little more investigation of the surroundings is a better approach.
"Can anyone cast a light spell on a branch that we can lower into the cavern with a rope? A better understanding of what lies below us would be good to have before we descend into anything. Let's check out this area as well, maybe there is a hidden entrance, either by design or by years of jungle growth."
Henry scouts about the area, including the rocky shelter, looking for an entrance. Drawing upon his knowledge of archaeology, he takes in the scope of the entire area, hoping it gives him a better understanding of what they've encountered.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Intrigued by the hollow sounding thump and the thin fissure swallowing the rain water, Henry waits until the lightning has seemingly passed, then investigates the fissure for a possible entrance to an underground cavern.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Male Human Ranger 1
"Could be they just abandoned the boat on the shore line to be destroyed by the surf at high tide. They couldn't have planned to leave this island on a row boat, so it wouldn't make much sense to keep it around after making land fall."
Male Human Ranger 1
As the party struggles through the downpour, Henry keeps looking for shelter, to at least provide the option for some respite from the inclement weather.
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
"Here's something," calls out Henry, "It ain't much, but it'll get us out of this downpour."
Male Human Ranger 1
"I does look like it won't be going anywhere. If we can reach it in the early morning when the tide is low, then let's finish our loop today, then rise before dawn tomorrow and head back here for a quick journey across the sandbar."
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry grins back at Misha, willing to take the bait. "If we find any fresh eggs out here I don't think I'll be trying to hatch them. So how do you like your eggs in the morning Misha, scrambled or fertilized?"
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry shades his eyes with a hand as he peers upward, squinting at the shapes that Sasha points at in the sky.
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
"They look to be a type of small winged dinosaur, Dimorphodons I believe they are called."
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry eyes the menacing looking wreck, remembering their encounter with the creatures on the Jenivere.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
"I'm not one to pass up a good exploration opportunity, but we should be careful not to take needless risk."
Male Human Ranger 1
yea, I like Misha's idea, let the NPC search the larder and maintain the shelter, while the PCs get on to some shockingly bad archaeology :)
"I'm with you Misha, count me on the group that searches inland, or even along the coast. Didn't Tshilaba's bird see two other wrecks in either direction from our beach camp?"
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry rises and stretches, glad to have had a full night's rest and impressed that his companions let him sleep the night through without any watch duty. Seeing Siera already working on the rowboat, Henry joins her and helps with the task.
"What do you think Siera, should we take another trip to the Jenivere to see what we find in the larder, or do we make do with the barrels of dried fish that we have and start exploring this island? If Ieana and the captain are already making their way inland and they came here for a reason, then I'm not sure we want to spend any more time building up a shelter and stocking it with food."
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry is also wiped out from the day's activities. Before the discussed plan of action is even finished, he falls asleep in the shelter, his soft snores blending with the sounds of the jungle.
Male Human Ranger 1
oopps, forgot the Fort save.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Henry is fatigued
Male Human Ranger 1
"Piss and vinegar aside, Siera has a point there. What do our resident spell casters think of that, any magical arts you know of, Tshilaba, Misha, Rafflesia, that could do that to the captain?"
Male Human Ranger 1
"Well Misha, if one of you was full of such things, that would certainly be a story for Mr. Aberwhinge to take back to the Pathfinder society, certainly they've no tales of that sort in their records."
Male Human Ranger 1
Dryly, with only a slight smile to betray his humor, Henry enters into the conversation, "Ladies, ladies, this is not the exploration of ancient ruins that we had in mind."
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry also hauls up a heap of goods from the rowboat, and hops to the task of helping Siera build up the shelter with the new found gear, focusing on a rain proof roof to keep everyone dry when the next squall hits.
Henry takes 20 if needed on a survival check, to be sure that we weather the next storm as best we can with the goods we have.
Once the shelter is built and Alton has been tended to with the discovered supplies, Henry waits until the group is gathered around and then pulls out the journal he found in the captain's cabin.
"We best all take a look at this together, it's the captain's journal. If anything has a clue as to why we find ourselves stranded on this island, it's this little book."
Male Human Ranger 1
"Yep, I think we're ready to go, let's get back to shore with this haul of goods."
Male Human Ranger 1
"Fine work Zababa!" proclaims Henry, genuinely impressed. "This has been a better haul than we could have hoped for, let's get back to the rowboat with this gear and make our way back to shore with haste, the fever has already gripped Alton and time is slipping away." Grabbing the few comfort items he found and stashing the journal in a safe pocket, Henry heads back to the rowboat for the return trip to shore.
Male Human Ranger 1
While Zababa works on the lock, Henry searches about the mess in the quarters, hoping to find anything useful for the shelter, even something as simple as a pillow for Alton.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry left the healing arts to those with training, so I assume he'll not get a heal check for the cook as he spends his time getting supplies while others check the corpse.
Henry quickly hauls all the gear he can handle back to the rowboat. He then turns his attentions to the larder and captain's cabin.
"A good haul so far gang, let's see what else we can acquire from this wreck."
Male Human Ranger 1
Leaving the task of determining the cook's cause and time of death to someone with healing skills, Henry focuses on trying to find something the stranded party can use from these rooms.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
"Let's not waste any extra time on this wreck, grab what we can from these rooms and then we'll check the captain's cabin for something to help Alton."
Male Human Ranger 1
round 2 action, assuming that Zababa killed the wounded sea scorpion
If possible, Henry shifts to a position that will provide flanking for Zababa and then attacks the sea scorpion.
"Finish it off Zababa! Raflessia, N'gawa has been stung, we may need your arts!" shouts Henry as he presses the attack and tries to keep the beast occupied.
Male Human Ranger 1
I'm fine with either way, so if you prefer to use your own bag of dice behind the scenes that's cool with me. I use a dice tower and open roll in the Friday games that I run, but that's because it makes things go quicker and keeps the flow going when sitting around the table and I think that's the same thing you're aiming for here in the forums.
Male Human Ranger 1
"You speak true Zababa, with all that thumping it's bound to get through the door. Let us deal with this menace on our own terms and not let it ambush us later. Prepare yourselves, I'll open the door, let's strike this thing before it can strike us."
Henry holds his weapon at the ready and prepares to open the door once his companions are also ready for the surprise attack.
once the door is open, Perception to see what's behind it: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

"That's no trapped passenger and if it's what caused this ship to wreck I'm not sure we need to meet it, but if we want to get anything from the supply room or larder we'll need to get past it. Seems unlikely that something in with the food would have caused a ship to go off course, more likely it's a local creature investigating the wreck."
Henry looks about at the others for their thoughts on the plan of action?
"On the other hand, if we find something in the captain's cabin to help Alton maybe we skip this fight and get back to shore with haste, making sure we don't need to use any healing on ourselves, or get ourselves caught by the tides out on this wreck. I'm thinking we should check the captain's cabin first, then decide on the larder and supply room."
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry follows Zababa to the pantry, weapon still at the ready, just in case any lurking creatures attack. Quietly, to Zababa and the others making their way below deck, "Something made this boat veer of course and wreck on the rocks, I hope whatever is knocking about didn't have a hand in that."
Straining his senses, Henry tries to determine exactly where the sound is coming from, hoping to catch faint cries for help and not something sinister or crazed.
if needed, Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry stops in his tracks, recognizing the wisdom of Misha's words. "Yes, good thinking Misha, lets find what's making that racket first, then we'll explore the ship."
Seeking out the sound, Henry makes his way toward it with weapon drawn.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
if needed, Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Male Human Ranger 1
"The captain's cabin, the larder, and the ship's supply room were more than we could have hoped for, this is good luck indeed. Let's start with the captain's cabin, any thing that may help Alton is likely to be stashed away among the captain's personal gear." Henry suggests to the others.
The knocking sound below deck keeps Henry on edge. Still unsure of what caused the wreck, he's torn between thoughts of stowaway monsters or were-captains and possible survivors from the wreck still trapped on the ship.
"Let's load up the rowboat with all the goods that we can before we check on that knocking sound. I've got a bad feeling about this."
Henry moves along with N'gawa across the ship's deck, heading for the captain's cabin.
Male Human Ranger 1
Henry searches about the Jenivere, hoping that anything useful still remains and that the efforts with the rowboat were not in vain.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
"I've some skill swimming, but this surf looks to be more than an amateur like myself can handle safely. Maybe with a rope tied around my waist I could give it a go, but we better have spied something worth the risk before I plunge into those waters."
Male Human Ranger 1
Hope the family gets well soon!
Thanks for the map, do I read that correctly in that we are aware of shipwrecks on the beach in either direction?
Male Human Ranger 1
"N'gawa is right, we should do this now while we have the opportunity, and if there is any healing potions to be found Alton needs it without delay."
Henry volunteers for the exploration of the Jenivere, with N'gawa and Siera that makes three of them for the short boat trip.

Male Human Ranger 1
as requested by TerraNova in the discussion thread..."agree on a plan of action before announcing you split up...Also, it would help setting scenes". So to set our current actions and locations, here is a summary of where we are at the moment. If I have anyone's location or action wrong please correct it, just trying to keep a little cohesion among the large group and make things easier for our GM.
"Alright gang, Siera and I will set about getting the rowboat fixed, as soon as it's floating again we'll get together a group to explore the wreck." calls out Henry as he and Siera get to work on the rowboat down near the tide's edge.
Just a short ways from the shelter, N'gawa has done a fine job butchering the centipede and now prepares to cook the cloth covered piles of meat.
Tshilaba stands near the shelter, scanning the jungle skyline for his familiar and awaiting the birds return.
Zababa works to solidify the shelter, weaving large fronds through the hatching to help divert the wind and rain.
In the shelter, Rafflesia tends to Alton wounds, but she fears greater healing will be the only thing to save the man and urges the party to explore inland, rather than explore the wreck, in hopes of finding something to help the healing process.
Misha listens to the ramblings of Alton, trying to decipher some meaning, and considers helping either Zababa building the shelter, N'gawa cooking the meat, or Sierra and Henry working on the rowboat.
The always vigilant Vargbrandr keeps a hand near his axe and sets up patrol near the camp, determined to prevent the jungle's predators from sneaking up on the party.
Male Human Ranger 1
"I'm liking the idea of fixing that rowboat and checking on the wreck of the Jenivere, something doesn't feel right about being this far off course and we might find some clues, or a least supplies, among the wreckage."
Henry volunteers for helping with the rowboat and making the perilous ride across the waves to the wreckage.
At the words of Alton, a grimace of disdain crosses Henry's face.
"Snakes! I hate snakes! Let's avoid those if possible."
Male Human Ranger 1
"Soon as this rain stops lets head for high ground and try to get a view of this lump of rocks", suggests Henry, "maybe we'll find some better shelter for waiting out the next rain squall...and maybe we'll find us some ruins for exploring along the way."
Male Human Ranger 1
oops, called myself Simon rather than Henry in an earlier post, that's what I get for multiple PbP games
Henry follows the lead of Vargbrandr and rushes in for the attack.
Kukri: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 161d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Male Human Ranger 1
"To arms my fellow castaways, already the island shows its teeth! Beware it's bite, the centipede almost certainly has poison in its maw."
Pulling his blade, Simon shifts to the front of the party protecting his less martial companions. He readies for the attack, hoping to strike the beast before it can strike at him.
if needed, initiative:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Male Human Ranger 1
"Sounds like a fine plan, proclaims Henry, "The idea of high ground for a signal makes sense, and it might even give us a better perspective on the island and lost ruins hiding in the jungles."
Male Human Ranger 1
"We'll get water one way or another, though a tarp over a hole in the ground seems more effort than it'll be worth while we've still a little water to get by."
TerraNova wrote: They had two barrels of rum, and three of fresh water "Let's wait out this rain and then try to find a fresh spring again while getting a better bearing on the landmarks of the jungle before we leave the shore."
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
was the water issue answered by N'gawa, can we create all we need?
TerraNova, was my Profession, Archaeologist:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 unusable?
Male Human Ranger 1
"We can't be lost too badly, downhill leads to the beach and the sound of the surf still reaches our ears."
Backtracking a short ways, Henry tries to get his bearings again, this time using his compass.
survival:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Male Human Ranger 1
Henry follows Zababa towards the location for water. At his words regarding ruins, Henry grins and agrees whole heartedly.
"Can't ever pass the chance for a little exploring. There's bound to be a tale of two of the past visitors to this little island, and most certainly there are those that visited and left no tales."
Henry looks about the jungle as they gain elevation. Hoisting the barrel for water is hard work and even with Zababa's enthusiasm for adventure he stays focused on their progress towards the water. After what seems like more climbing then necessary, Henry takes a quick survey of their position, hoping they haven't got themselves lost.
survival check for getting lost, but not using compass or map kit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
"Hold there a moment Zababa, let's get our bearings and rest a few seconds."
As they rest, Henry thinks on the tales he might have heard or read over the years regarding the 'Shiv and it's past visitors.
only if TerraNova allows - Profession, Archaeologist:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
