Hmm… @Mort, that may have not worked quite like it did in my head. Now that I think of it, the nat.20 did not provoke. The nat.1 did. So that means I gotta pray Baldy’s AC saves her… but also that Hanako still needs one Acro roll? (Because the woman still has her AoO whereas the creature does not.) Is that correct?
I am asking if she can use a Move action to grab Baldy and Swift to step down from the Stela. Or Swift to grab Baldy and Move to step down. Either way. I’m just not sure if grabbing a willing diminutive familiar can be done like that… she’s still a person so even to help her, that may be Standard, and I used my Standard.
Pensive like a fox: Hanako sniffs around. (Out of body, so I doubt scent applies. Trying anyway!)
Perc: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 Hanako examines the pensives. She assumes that, by keeping her distance from the tieflings, she will not be easily detected. So what does this place have to do with me? Is this my memory, or is this a similar establishment in Thrushmoor? If the latter, perhaps Hanako’s body is here. (Let me know if I’m playing her as too self-aware. I actually don’t know the answer to Hanako’s question, and find both scenarios equally plausible.)
Xanetia: Hanako watches the way Xanetia reacts.
So cute! Is she a bad person, or just working for one? I must remember the name Xanetia, should I one day meet her in the flesh. She follows her, again doing her best not the get caught. Am I being ‘smoked’ in the main room. And what does that even mean?
Saved by my size bonus to stealth!
Perception, scent: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
The little fox grins at the hideous pollen-colored outline. So it’s 1d2 (1 misses) if you attack, but still 1d5 (1 misses) if you ready the attack? But now we know which direction the attack will come from without the need of a fox nose, right?
Hanako’s nose follows the scent. Her tail points the way. If the creature comes from a direction where no ally will get caught in the blast, Hanako’s flower sprays pollen toward the creature. (Readied action if possible. Not sure a familiar can do that, or if the pollen will stick to the creature so it can be seen. It’s not glitterdust, but worth a try?) 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds to replenish pollen.
In the Cave: Survival w/ Scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 (18 if Perception)
Hanako tries to get a whiff of the cave to learn if there is human-ish scent. But it seems foolish to stick around as such a defenseless creature. The animated plant is not like the flower she wears in her hair. Hanako backs out of the cave. Standard: surv (or perc) check to recognize human(oid) scent.
Before transforming, Hanako gives Piotr her flowers, explaining that the flowers might go to her if she’s in danger. A flowering lattice has 5ft movement. It won’t go fast! I assume it will let Piotr carry it if he’s rushing to Hanako. In her fox shape, Hanako moves along very slowly, using her small size to go where no human can, skittering along the edge of the cave wall, pausing in shadows, watching for signs of life. Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (17) + 20 = 37
Hanako becomes a fox. She then looks up to Kilarra and Garrosh. If no one objects, she moves swiftly and silently to where the live yellows are—and the crucified bodies. She moves no further than necessary and peers into the room from a good hiding place, watching and listening. Her main objective is to determine whether it is safe to camp upstairs. Or for that matter, is the meeting with Aggra so mysterious to these cultists that no one would question bodies being brought down? Stealth: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31
GM: Given Garroth's warning, Hanako decides not to go beyond the corner.
She will simply report what she sees, unless: If there is a straight path to a closed door (and clearly no one alive or dead in the hall), Hanako will form a smiley face using seven stones or pieces of rubble—in human form, if she has enough space to become that big. The smiley face would be on the floor where a doormat would go, and inverted from Hanako's POV. Someone opening the door from the other side would see the smile, confirming Hanako was here. In other words, next GM post you can bot me back to the party in fox form.
Unlike her bardic magic, the transformation into fox form involves no song and dance. Hanako's instrument and schoolgirl outfit fade, leaving her clad in a spidersilk bodysuit, silken sleeves, two bandoliers and her shouldered bow and quiver—and all of this equipment rolls up into a furball, which in seconds, is a fluffy little vixen. She scampers out the window...
Hanako has no intention to be out there for long.
Hanako on her own: Hanako contemplates her options... it really isn't a tough choice.
She transforms to her little fox self, clad in nothing but flowers. ...sneaking away from the weird thing with the stary nose, and doing all in her power not to be noticed by whatever thing could follow her into this hole. A toothy snake? her imagination submits. Stealth Mode, +4 DEX adj, size bonus: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 2 + 8 = 30 In addition to sneaking around, she takes a cue from the door, relying on both eyes and nose. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
