Only 9 out of the 36 new spells are available to clerics. What gives?
Given the title, you would think clerics would have access to the majority of New spells.

It's not missing its arm! He's got it right there in his other hand..

very confusing

is that armed combat or unarmed combat?

New feat? Unarmed armed combat?

Liberty's Edge

Our party befriended some of the city guards and when one of their grand daughters went missing they became fully vested in helping him.

Also - when they cleared the butchery they forged papers and decided to take it over and run it as a legitimate business.
one player is an orphan so he decided to party with a local orphanage and have a few children apprentice at the butchery.

Another player is an investigator so he started looking into Eel's End and wanted "in" on the business. Needless to say, he now runs Eel's End.

To keep them going I incorporated the Hook House module, tied the orphanage to some child kidnapping scheme, and one player is a skald who landed up working in Old Korvosa for Pilts Swastel.

So I just ran The First Session of book five, up until after the orc encounter, and I have trouble handling the brotherhood of bones.

** spoiler omitted **

My problem: Too many bodies I combat. When running the Orc fight, I realized that playing all three Kuthites would extremely bog down combat.

I'm thinking of Sial (rival) telling them that if they don't agree to hand over the teeth, the Kuthites will only support them (maybe some spells etc.), but the PCs will do the fighting. So the clerics (I used witherose's cleric sial, the summoner seemed lackluster and ill-fitting) will only use support spells, and asyra will default to protecting them.

How did you all handle the Brotherhood in combat?

I've had both Sial and Laori hang back and cast a buff here or there. They have thrown out an offensive spell when they thought the party needed some extra help or when they came under direct attack. Right now they have an uneasy truce with the party - as the party has agreed to hand over the teeth if they recover Serithial.

This is a bit out there, but a Night Hag-themed PC would fit with the campaign if you add the module The House on Hook Street to the AP. It takes a bit of work to add it, but if you're interested in doing that let me know and I can explain how I fit it and made it make sense in the overall plot.

Quick summary: Night Hags come from the dimension of dreams, which is central to the module. The module is set in Korvosa. The background can fit well with the awakening of Kazavon and his possession of Ileosa.

I actually ran this module as part of CoTC. Worked out great for the party.

It would be much cooler for Barbarians to be able to have a reason not to want to focus on Maxing AC, than creating implausible ways for them to do so just to keep up with ones that do choose to wear armor.

Or, maybe the ability to avoid crits? Maybe a barbarian can turn critical hits into normal damage?

Having seen the posts about surviving Cindermaw's stomach and one-turn-shotting random encounters, I'm here just to say that PCs killed Cindermaw in the first round. They were so scared they wouldn't be able to survive that they thought of softening him up first, but, knowing the beast was vulnerable to cold, the alchemist overdid it. TT_TT

I changed it up a little. The Shoanti wanted the party to mimic the legend, survive being swallowed by Cindermaw and escape with Cindermaw still alive. Success earned RP but killing the legendary worm subtracted 1 point. To make matters worse I had a fire giant and ogre hunting party engaged with the worm. The PCs had to defeat the hunting party and then contend with a wounded and enraged Cindermaw. All was going according to plan - the party easily took out the giants and the party brawler jumped up on a boulder taunting Cindermaw. Of course as he was being swallowed the party mage panicked, teleported into Cindermaw's mouth (protected with stoneskin and fire shield)and proceeded to blast him to bits with lightening bolts while making his concentration checks. One dead worm....

Instead of a store credit I would prefer a $15 refund to my credit card that would offset the delivery charges since Amazon failed to meet up to its obligation.

Sam,

Thanks for the clarification. Greatly appreciated!

I ordered the PF2 softcover and module (#4783161). When I reviewed the order it said it was shipping via Amazon standard shipping. I'm being charged $13.80 for shipping to NYC.

I'm an Amazon Prime member - if Paizo is not shipping direct to me why am I being charged for an Amazon delivery? As a Prime member I receive 2nd day free shipping.

If I knew it was coming from Amazon I was would have ordered direct from them.

Thanks

I'm not too keen on the whole rage/fatigue mechanic (3/1). I'd prefer that a barbarian be able to rage for the entire duration of combat with one caveat - they sustain damage each round they rage.

Something like damage = barbarian level? Maybe higher level barbarians can take a feat that mitigates that damage.

Example: a 10th level barbarian takes 10hp of damage a round when she rages but the feat offsets some of that damage equal to their con modifier but the amount of damage can never be less than 1hp or half their level whichever is greater.

Or maybe the damages scales at 1hp per 2 barbarian levels with no damage mitigation allowed?

I like my idea better than 3 rounds of fighting then one round bent over huffing and puffing then another 3 rounds of raging.
I picture Olaf the barbarian wading into the horde of orcs and other mobs swinging about wildly then backing out to catch his breath before running back into the crowd.

Thanks for clarifying the math. Now I have another question on actions. You can use verbal, somatic and material to add to the power of a spell - I get that. Will each spell have a descriptor of what the material component will be? Or will we assume that material components are just some sort of arcane focus? I don't need the GM saying "oops, you forgot to buy your widget doodad - so you can only use 2 actions not three for your spell."

Can you explain how you arrived at 15 missiles if cast as a 9th level spell? I can't figure out the math here.

I’m all for keeping the “traditional” Paladin. I like the fact that she/he is LG and bound by tenets. Heck I liked the old rules when the paladin had to give away all of his or her wealth and only maintain enough to get by. Or the fact they could only have so many magic items.

I get that there is a community of players that want to do away with alignment restrictions or see some other changes. I also know that no matter what Paizo does there will always be a subset of people that are unhappy.

For those of you saying that this breaks the game or I’m going to drop PF and move to 5e, that’s your prerogative. Instead how about giving it a chance? Or better yet – as many Paizo staff have said over the years – these rules are guidelines. House rule it any way you want.
In my 40+ years of gaming experience (I started in 1978 when I was a mere 13 year old snot nosed teenager) more often than not it’s an obnoxious player that ruins a class and not the class itself. We’ve been playing with paladins since first edition and never once (never, yes I used the word never) did we ever have a contentious moment with a paladin or a player playing a paladin. Maybe we’re unique (or dysfunctional) but at the end of the day we got together to have fun. If we debated a rule we talked it out or house ruled it but ultimately the DM/GM had the final say.

So I say give the pally a chance. Playtest him and provide your feedback in a calm and rational way. Stop the name calling and ultimatums. Lose the I’m right and you’re wrong attitude. Give Paizo a ton of credit for trying to improve the game we all love and help them make it better without derailing the boards. Constructive feedback – not criticism always wins the day.

Just my 2 coppers since I had to tithe my excess gold away to the orc orphanage down the road…

Advanced Firearms normally only target touch AC for the first 5 range increments. The Deadeye deed allows you to extend that by one additional increment per grit point spent.

So you target touch for the first 800 ft., and can continue to target touch for each 160 ft beyond that by spending a grit point, up to 5 grit points and a range of 1600 ft.

Just to be clear.

I thought the touch attack was only resolved within the first range increment. Anything beyond that was against normal AC. Did I read it wrong?

I'm playing a CG gunslinger (currently 2nd level) in the Skull & Shackles AP. Thinking of going dual classed. I was thinking about adding a few rogue levels. Any suggestions or ideas?

Liberty's Edge

When firing into combat (1s range increment) attacks are considered touch attacks for purposes of hitting your target. Two questions:

1 - do I take a -4 penalty firing into melee combat
2 - if my opponent is flat footed, do I get my rogue sneak attack damage if I'm less than 30 feet away?

I still have a few tier 1 openings for PFS GMs at Gen Con. That is 7 slots. One of the rewards for tier 1 GMs is a $10/slot store credit. Other rewards for tier 1 include free badge and a shared hotel room. So, that could fund one-third of the cost! Of course, if you wanted to only devote 3-6 slots at Gen Con, you could still net $30-$60 store credit. Food for thought.....
