Half-Orc Ranger (Battle Scout) 1
Are the scorpions currently stuck outside the fence just snapping in, or are they entering the compound? It sounds like they are currently stuck, so ranged weapons are most appropriate. If they come inside, that would change my reaction. Grillik catches sight of the oversized bugs and grunts. Drawing his crossbow, he moves to find a clear line of sight and loads. Draw crossbow while moving, move action to load. I'm assuming weapons were away since we were heading for the cantina.

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 If Grillik's turn comes up and there is no hostile target in view, he uses a free action to make a perception check, move action to get to a defensible position, draws his crossbow for free while moving, standard action to load the crossbow. If there is a target in view, he will either move, draw and load the crossbow as above if it is a long distance away, or pull out his double axe and move up if it is close.

Grillik surveys the fort with a critical eye. Taking 10 on any or all of the following that seem appropriate, Grillik is jut getting a lay of the land, seeing how well defended it seems and where potential weak points might be. Knowledge (Geography) 15, Perception 18, Survival 16; add 2 to any of those where Gnolls are concerned.

Grillik growls and takes one of the muskets as the captured gnolls are tied up. To Doc Hambleton, he says "If you're hirin', I'm workin'. Let's make sure we don't have another pack waitin' for us." Not sure what the terrain is here. If it's flat as far as the eye can see, there's not much need to scout, but otherwise Grillik will range a bit to make sure the path ahead is clear. Take 10 for 15 Stealth roll, and take 10 for 18 Perception (+2 if there are gnolls involved).

Grillik growls, "I speak their rotten tongue, though I've yet to encounter a dog that has anything useful to say." The scout moves around to join his companions in circling the gnolls.
Attack (inspire courage, favored enemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 (+2 additional if he can flank)

Grillik avoids the swing of the musket and loops his axe around for another attack. Attack (+2 favored enemy, +1 inspire courage): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Grillik's smile widens as the gnoll's blood sprays. Looking at the next one in line, he says "You want some of this?"
When Silas Warner came looking for a scout to accompany a caravan across the wastes, Grillik only had one question. "Will there be gnolls to kill?" Silas assured him there would probably be plenty, and Grillik nodded. "Then I'm your man. When do we leave?" Now, facing down the horde, he smiles a mirthless smile as he cocks another bolt into his crossbow. His double axe sits at his side for when the ammunition runs out. Crunch in the profile |
