Gi'chak stares at Thorgrim, feeling confused. What had got the ulfen so upset? Human young were soft and weak, he believes that he was no more than a few years older than Ibir and he had been a warrior for half his life. So what if the squishy small one needed the help of the plant-lady. She was nice enough to let him enjoy the shade--as little as it was--of leafroot's branches and enjoy the feel of bark beneath his feet. It may not feel like the trees he was familiar with, but he was still inclined to cut her some slack.

The news of the annoying lizard leaving them--even if only for a few days--was music to his ears. He grins to himself at the prospect of getting rid of the annoying kobold, always sticking his chest out and spouting nonsense about his horde. Hmph! Gi'chak starts guiltily as Pinkerton offers to speak with Rhasadal on his behalf, jolting him from his thoughts. He can't seem to decide whether to be annoyed or pleased by the offer at first; he'd thought he'd been more subtle than that... he just didn't know how to approach her though, he didn't even know what she was. After a few moments his features simply settle into the usual neutral mask and he gives a respectful nod. It would be good to rest his feet, and feel branches beneath them again. How long had it been... he didn't even know, it was years since they'd left the Mwangi and the things that grew in the wastes hadn't even deserved the name. He lets out a melancholy sigh, slowly coming back to the conversation at hand. He looks between the two hold-outs, frowning thoughtfully. He was mercenary to realize that complying with his wishes wouldn't actually help him get paid at all. Haste would in fact only increases the danger. "Maybe you should have put a clause into the contracts about fulfilling your task." he observes with a grin. If the armored pair were slowing them down though, then there would be no reason for him to ride atop leafroot though... perhaps they would still let him, but... "Surely we have enough animals to free up one or two? Then can ride like Hand man." he still didn't get what was up with that, why was he named after a hand? "My stubborn animal doesn't carry much. My jars bulky, not heavy."

Ahh, hmm. What about redistributing the loads of the various pack animals? Since we all bought our own animals I'm sure they're not all fully loaded. They might have to ride bareback but I'm sure we could free up some more mounts that way. Gi'chak's food (all that's on his mule) for instance weighs 45 lbs (+15 lb pack saddle) of the mule's max load of 225 lbs

Because Gi'chak and apparently Unafe as well only have a move of 20 ft (Steady Hand is already riding). If Unafe swaps and rides Thorgrim's mount and Gi'chak can ride Leafroot, or something else (Sasbrek's spare lizard perhaps :p) then we could up it to 30 ft.

Gi'chak ponders the final revelations of the journal, pleased that it answers the rest of his questions quite neatly. He looks around at the others, before turning to Pinkerton. "So... Do we move fast and try to catch up to Razmiran cultists, or let them keep their lead? Seem dangerous, defeated first expedition, maybe if wait long enough they turn on adventurers too, then we only have soft priests to deal with." _________________________

"Still doesn't explain why they were so far behind. Those entries were around when we left Eto. They should be miles ahead." Gi'chak observes with a grumble, he doesn't like the inconsistency. He's glad that he's not the only one who spotted the reference to a third expedition either.

In case I'm not the only one to have forgotten, the current date is the 27th Gozran, so the priests are quite a ways ahead of us. Which makes me wonder what has delayed them so much that Julistar was still around. He was tasked with delaying our group further until they fell afoul of the gnolls?
Male Monkey Goblin Gunslinger (26/26 hit points)
Gi'chak's attention wavers in and out, growing increasingly bored at the personal notes of the pompous man. When he starts to describe the expedition of their enemies he focuses on Nexander again. "So the priests are ahead of us. If Count whoever was with them, why only his group at the gnoll ambush? Did Wallis abandone them to gnolls?"

Knowing where crusty has sourced these NPCs from I can tell you that the rifle will be of no use to Gi'chak. He'd probably look it over and quite quickly inform you that if it is a firearm then he has no idea how it works with a confusing explanation of chambers, and barrels and other incomprehensible terms :p Gi'chak might take the emerald topped quarterstaff if someone can provide him a saw so he can cut it down to size.

Gi'chik poors over most of the loot, listening as Nexander identifies the properties of the various objects. The cloak and hat sound interesting, he could see the benefit of being able to hide his nature, but they were about to spend 4 months in the desert so it probably wasn't too likely to see much use. As Unafe asks about these 'poor souls' Gi'chak meanders over that way to have a look at the unfortunate victims of the gnolls. _________________________

Gi'chak looks over to Nexander as the man makes the offer, putting his bow away and drawing his gun with a nod. He refills the barrel and tucks it away out of sight again. He then scurries down to start picking over the dead gnolls, gathering their coins to add to the collection of spoils.

Heh, I know those corpses :p Wonder what happened to the woman... +6 HP

"Hmph. Not waste precious ammo on such worthless targets." he declares in reply, pushing himself up, putting his pistol away and retrieving his bow instead, knocking an arrow as the gnolls start to stream away from their position. He had been somewhat concerned to discover just how expensive the materials to construct his ammunition were this far from the wastes, but he didn't let that show now as he sighted along his arrow. _________________________

Gi'chak smiles as his shot lands true, but is forced to glare as the kill is stolen from him by a rapid barrage of arrows. He doesn't waste much time on Ardeshir, quickly lining up another shot at the gnolls cowering behind the rock in the middle. He leaves the distant ones to the archer. The revolver may be a definite improvement over his first gun, but it still leaves something to be desired for accuracy over range... _________________________

Gi'chak moves easily into place, clambering quietly over the rocks. He is less than pleased when the kobold slithers up next to him and takes a position nearby. He glares at Sasbrek for a moment before turning back to the gnolls below. It doesn't take much to pick out the leader, and he quietly lines up his shot, seeing the others do the same in the corner of his eyes. He chafes only a little as he waits for them to settle themselves, but when they seem ready he squeezes the trigger, an echoing crack of ignited gunpowder Revolver (at -4 due to range, +1 due to height vs. flat footed and touch): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Gi'Chak has remained quiet and to himself over the last few days, slowly getting a read of his new companions. He felt no emotion at the loss of Jack, and likely wouldn't should any of the others be so foolish as the get themselves killed, unless the losses began to grow too great anyway... These people were not his family, and none had yet done anything to endear themselves to him. That was not to say they would not however, some of them seemed to have potential... 'The Great Hand' was not likely to be one of those however. He shakes his head as the fool goes charging off, turning his attention to squirming into his armor. He hears his name as the others seem ready to set out, nodding his agreement to Ardeshir's wisdom. With his armor in place he scurries out into the fiery desert heat, sparing a glare towards the sky as he does so. He makes sure to place himself away from Sasrbek, and leaves some distance between himself and the nearest of the forward group as he sneaks up. _________________________

Gi'chak curses their luck at where they find themselves fighting this creature, but more than that he curses this open, undulating terrain. With not a tree, or anything else in sight to take a vantage from his options are limited. He could try to climb on one of the animals for some additional height but he distrusts the large animals... As the others move towards the creature, casting spells and readying weapons he is forced to do likewise, stubby legs pushing him up the dune to try and get a shot at something more substantial than just the creature's tentacles... _________________________

Gi'chak looks at the contract from his seat, but dismisses it with a grunt. Considering he neither knows the language, or indeed anything about the legal system of this land he will have to trust the professor's assessment. He remains beneath the pavilion until the sun begins to lower towards the horizon, and the day finally cools, but even then he wanders aimlessly around the tents, though he finds his feet carrying him often near the druid and her companion, Leafroot... His leafy branches seeming to call to the monkey goblin in this arid, flat landscape... There wasn't even anything he could climb on!

Gi'chak is pleased when at last they are able to stop. The morning had passed well enough, but as the sun reached his zenith the heat finally started to get to him despite divesting himself of armor and other unnecessary burdens. He was made to soar through the trees of the jungles, not trudge through the sandy desert... He would have to find a different approach. He assiduously avoids looking at the kobold and his paired lizards. He would not humble himself in that way... He had no experience with animals anyway. Tree's on the other hand... he turns his gaze to the Ghoran and her leafy companion. Perhaps... yes. He hurries beneath the pavillion once it is set up and falls to the sand, sipping from his waterskin as the others gather and Pinkerton finally explains the content of the document that precipitated their hasty departure. "It is fake, yes?" he asks. Just as the soldiers had been fake certainly this warrant must be also. He didn't doubt that foul play had occurred, but wasn't that a more likely explanation? He cared little either way, as long as the trouble remained in Eto it would not affect him; he would continue south once he had fulfilled his contract to look for his siblings, he cared little for this country or it's laws. As to any bounty hunters, well... they would find G'iChak no easy mark.

Hmm, Gi'chak may be in trouble. He has +5 to Fort saves vs. hot weather (without armor, as does his mule), so a 55% chance for the first one and 40% for the last. He's probably going to be spending a fair few days fatigued... Mule (and contents) added to profile.

He's surprisingly calm and collected for a goblin. XD *waves* He's had a fair amount of time to become domesticated, and he has to watch himself in cities and such. I'm sure he'll get up to plenty of mischief once things move along :)

Gi'chak also bought a mule with a pack saddle to transport his goods. He will be leaving that to Pinkerton's people to handle as he knows nothing of domesticated animals (except possibly what they taste like). As to the rest I shall have to respond/post when I am not exhausted. |
