"By all means, Mr Stone. Lead on."

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"Hmmm." Fitzroy ponders from over Stone's shoulder. "Egyptian. Well preserved too - or recently made. Been a long time since my Egyptology phase, but if you can give me twenty or thirty minutes in decent light I could probably puzzle it out."

George raises a single eyebrow in surprise, extending a hand to help Lucretia up. "An unusual talent, Miss Wyld.".

Fitzroy sighs "My kingdom for a locksmith."

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"How would one get such an item in here?" George wonders "Yes - open it then."

George steps in and shines his eerie light-tube around the room, the actinic glow otherworldly compared to the friendly glow of open flame.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

George nods towards the door "Shall we?" he asks quietly.

Fitzroy, second in the line, coughs.
"Well, no point staying here. The arrow is loosed. Let us take the via sinister - the path to the left."

All good.
My life has been crazy anyway!

Fitzroy, gun in one hand and flickering torch tube in the other, steps after Mr Stone. His little dog follows at his feet.

Excellent. How many rounds did he get? Just need to know how much to husband resources.

GM DeathbySuburbs wrote:
@George Fitzroy, perhaps in my hiatus, you have forgotten to level up. George should be level 3.

I believe I did! How embarassing :(

It seems I prepared a sheet, but was holding off copying it across.
Should all be good now.
Am I right in remembering George asked for a pistol as his reward and got it (plus a few bonus rounds)

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"If there's any of you more ready to go, some flammable oil wouldn't go astray." he calls, as he turns to retire to his room.

preparation:
Been a while, but I believe George got a pistol and some rounds? He'll be using that. He'll also take long enough to prepare and cast Mage Armour, assuming he can get spy-free time.

'Fitzy' looks perplexed "This cellar seems like a good start. I've little idea what we're fighting beyond what we already knew."

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

George looks conflicted "I suppose... If this thing intended Altair to die, he'll be dead already. If he is a hostage then preparations would be wise."

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"I'm here" acknowledges Fitzroy "But what do we do about Altair?"

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"I'm little use in a fight. We need to get Altair and get back the the parlour. Come on!" Fitzroy calls.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Sounds good

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Fitzroy runs to a gas lamp, ripping his starched cardboard collar free as he does. Quickly he stuffs it into the open end of the glass lampshade.

mechanics:

Seems like a move and a standard.
Can he hand it off to someone to throw?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

I've lost track - whose turn is it.?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Now we brace for impact, right?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

behind the scenes:

I put down a flint and steel in equipment. Is it okay to have that as matches? Lighters wont really be invented for another couple of decades.
Additionally; what is the lightsource in here? Dark? Candles? Gas lamps?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Like a water carrier from the great battles of the Raj, Fitzroy grabbed two canisters of oil, and ran.
"Stay hale!" he shouted in order to Lord Walker, as his feet sped upon the hardwood floors, and slipped upon the plush rug.
Coming upon his fellows, engaged in a furious melee with giant tree, he forced himself not to stop and gape.
"I've something here that burns!" he called "What is your plan? Take these and I'll get more!"

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Hey, two questions
1. Is Fitzroy up
2. How many actions to drag some of these flammable items to the fight?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Oh, sorry
Fitzroy stooped over Madame Horos, checking for a pulse. Suddenly his head swivelled towards the exit, then turned to the lady Stonecraft "Pardon me. Do you have combustibles? Oil perhaps? Alcohol? Whatever assails our protectors requires burning. Obviously we'll also need to organise a bucket chain."

mechanics:

A great many things are combustible! Sadly a gaslit house has done away with many of them - but on the other hand smoking is still a thing (matches), gunpowder can burn if not contained, and Lady Stonecraft may have the knowledge to identify herbal things she has that are flammable.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Sorry to hear that, Reagan.

mechanics:

Would Fitzroy hear Lucretia's shout?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Yeah, sorry again all. You got this.

I learned to play under GMs who loved to use decoys and red herrings. Made me pretty suspicious.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Sorry all, on reflection I am reminded a little too much of Army of Darkness.
I fear this is a trap. Please procure an axe.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Fitzroy turns to leave, then stops. With a single look he sizes up Lord Walker - all too aware of the target of this particular threat. "I'm sure they'll be fine. Allow me to see to Madame Horos. Lord Walker, if you will?"

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

I've gotten confused. Should I post now or wait until the people before me in init have done so?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Dr Fitzroy is torn. On the one hand sheer politeness all but requires him to participate. On the other hand, he knows enough of the occult to flinch at the idea of breaching the barrier between the living and the dead as dinner entertainment.

In the end, with a fervent hop Madame Horos is simply a skilled charlatan, he participates.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

on tour:
"That's a good point, Stone. I will have a word with Lord Walker. I'm reluctant to send the carriage back without the herbs though. I think we might be racing the storm. Perhaps his lordship can convince her ladyship to let the good doctor depart with the herb he needs forthrightly." 'Fitzy' nods, allowing the familiarity. At the next possible moment he has a quiet conversation with Lord Walker - giving credit to Mr Stone.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Fitzroy bows politely "Madame."

Mechanics:

knowledge: local on Madame Horos: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
knowledge: nature on flower: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

thanks for the update :)

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

For the record, this sounds like a job for Altair!

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"Delighted to meet you, Lady Stonecraft." Fitzroy bowed low. "I have heard much about your greenhouses. Lord Walker was kind enough to offer to let me accompany him on his visit. I do hope I'm not intruding."
He looked over to Lord Walker as he spoke, trying to see if the man was going to raise the true reason for their visit, or expecting them to do so.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

I'm easy. Feel like I've been enough trouble.

Am I right that Revolver (5000gp) = £500 ?
Hopefully I can Lord Walker to throw in a few bullets.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"Perhaps..." Fitzroy falls silent for a moment "While I hate to put myself forward again, I have a comprehensive knowledge of natural science. It would be good to be on hand to observe this botanical specimen, as perhaps - if I can identify the taxonomy well enough - near relatives might also be viable."

"As for what I require... I regret the need, but I think I'd like to trade my commission for a shotgun, or a revolver, or at least a brace of pistols. The mirrors certainly helped, but they are at best able to hold off our unholy enemy."

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"I suggest Lord Walker call upon this botanist friend of his, see if she has any idea where this herb might be. It may prove instrumental in the treatment of Mr Fitch, as well as your brother."
"I believe Brother Thomas and Ms Faolan hoped holy water, introduced intravenously, might buy Mr Fitch some time. I suggest they look at expediting that suggestion."
"I also believe chasing Jack is important, but I am sure by now they will have gone to ground at another place. We'd simply be chasing our tails. There's a myth I'm keen to test that might help locate him, but I'll need to perform the autopsy first. This means this Frankenstein needs to be approached, and soon. If I could trouble you to send a carriage, Lord Walker, I'm keen to ask this gentleman to attend. Given his field of study, the chance to study our dead subject should be of keen interest."
"'Twould be foolish in the extreme to go after such evil after dark. Better to study hard tonight, then head off early tomorrow. If anyone knows of a place to purchase a number of large mirrors, I've hope we might be able to bring a rising sun down their barrow with us."

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"Of course Dr Wescott. Do you suggest we might want Dr Frankestein to assist me in the autopsy?" asks George politely.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

"I'd be delighted to have a colleague to assist." Dr Fitzroy adds, not-so-subtly implying he considers it his specimen.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

They know of Fitz, now.
Odds are they'll come for him if you disappear.
When I get time, I'll come up with a plan for that eventuality.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Fitzroy sits silently through pre-dinner drinks, only speaking expected greetings and asking for a second timber-doodle. Preoccupied with his own thoughts he stares out the window - or into the gas-lit reflection of his own eyes.

At dinner he finally speaks up. "You have here the sort of adventure I had always dreamed of as a boy. My time abroad showed me that the glory-tinged tales of warfare were frosting on a cake of mud. I see now that even my wildest fantasies render down into blood and violence when one dissects them."
He sighs "Yet, I cannot walk away. I might live to be ninety, only to lie on my deathbed lamenting the day I did so. I am your man, Lord Walker. I do not think your son can be restored, but I am willing to concede my understanding of the barriers between the possible and impossible have been shattered. Perhaps Van Helsing may have some better idea than I."
Worked up, the doctor stands "But I must be honest - my first priority is to prevent this great darkness. I have seen the horrors of war, and no true born son of England would see them visited upon England's green, let alone war with the forces of darkness themselves."
Apparently a trifle tipsy, he sits again "I fear I intend to use my physician's prerogative to ensure Mr Stone stays with me, for a time. The man is fit as a horse, but I have seen men as fit as him undone by a wound gone septic. Mr Stone, you may stay here, or return to my residence, as you prefer. I dare say Lord Walker's spare bed is a damn site more comfortable than mine." Glancing at Reagan, he winces "With apologies for my language to the fairer sex for my language."

date:

Just to check, is this the same day as Edgar was wounded?

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Well - Tom reveals he's a saint. George reveals he's a witch... bit of a difference.

I've used it.
Can be a pain to load all the images in, but it does work.
Some people cannot access google.
I've seen Sheets and Drawings used.
Drawings has the advantage that it looks nicer, and conveys themes better.
Sheets has the advantage that (if you resize the cells to squares) it is easy to colourise squares, and measure distances.

I've run games mapless, if you're interested. Works okay, but requires some subtle rules changes. Can lead to less strategic play, but makes descriptions essential.

All good.
Hoping to borrow a gun from Lord Walker so Fitzroy's not such a burden on his companions in combat.
Not sure when to apply changes like additional slots and extra HP.

HP 18/18 Ins 4/4 Arc 2/6|AC 11(15) FF 10(14) T11|F+2 R+4 W+3|Per +12(14)(16) Init+1|

Oh - I'm more than happy to go to the Walker residence now. Tom's convinced me. We need to warn Walker and arrange for reinforcements.
Just not sure I'd then hang around for a week ;P

the surgery:

Not sure when this'll happen, but figured I'd roll for this now. +3 for a Surgeon's Kit, +3 for Thomas, +8 base. Battlefield Medic allows it to be done twice per day.
Will take two hours all up.
DC 20 for 3 hp, DC 25 for 5. 0 to 10 points recovery

Heal: 1d20 + 8 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 3 + 3 = 16Edit: son of a...
Total healed: 5hp, so about average.
'It was a brutal surgery' reflects Fitzroy, as he finishes washing his hand in the now-red water of the basin.
"I commend you on your constitution, Mr Stone. Those wounds would have finished a lesser man. I've stitched the cuts and iced the bruises. There's little I can do about the blood loss. I'd order bed rest, if I thought I there was any chance you'd listen."

"I doubt we can tail them safely - though I have a method that might work. Some of the superstitions regarding such creatures talk of mind control and possession - too dangerous to send a lone scout."
"Regardless, you're correct, brother Thomas. Let us away to Lord Walker immediately. We can report, and I can start surgery on Mr Stone."
"Could I trouble you gentlemen" he looks meaningfully at Thomas and Nikos to help me in packing my subject here up in a crate and moving him outside."[/b]
[spoiler=Whisper to Nikos]
"Your friends from earlier. We need to make sure they don't follow us. I dare say we'll be seeing them again."

GM DbS:

Are you okay with Protection From Arrows and Carrion Compass? Especially in the last case it could be quite dangerous.
I'm also thinking about picking up EWP: Firearms

I also am prepared to go with a majority decision :)
Did they move? If they moved we could come back in a few hours and find the area vacant.
