Gareth's Background is at the bottom of his page. A bit more on how Gareth got onto the ship...

Gareth's Ship Entrance:
You made it to the coast safely unfortunately after that your luck seemed to go from bad to worse.Finding that most people were as predjudiced as your villagers against your kind you promptly got into a series of tavern brawls that resulted in your arrest and imprisonment. The jailor then sold you to the captain of this Taldane merchantman the'Jenever' who was short off crew. Since then you have been allowed on deck only when you are on duty and when below you have been chained to the bulkhead...You also know that the Captain has your gear stowed in a chest in the hold you are chained up in"

Gareth here is interested, our current serpent skull game fell apart, only got one encounter in. He is a 1st level half orc ranger.

I will try to post some links to Gareth's story too, but long story short, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, went to jail, and was purchased as a slave for the ship.

Thanks Wellard, It was a good run while it lasted...

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth tries to find or make a makeshift shelter against the rain.

Gareth and I assume company follow the tracks.

Brugga frowns down on the men. "Brugga no think these men start as cannibals. Not good sign for food sources on island."

The a wolfish, nasty grin spreads across her face. "If no food here, maybe Aerys become useful after all!" She laughs heartily before realizing that perhaps her joke was not in the best of taste; her chuckles cut off raggedly.

As much as Aerys had annoyed Gareth, the thought of eating her we quite... disturbing.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

If Gareth can use survival to attempt to find the tracks again, he does so, otherwise he waits to see what the others decided to do.

Survival 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

"Glad to do it big guy". "I figure if I'm going to hide behind you it's the least I can do", Tariro says with a smile and a wink.

Still a bit red and with an awkward smile, Gareth repeats himself.T-thanks...

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

P-perhaps I can help with that....

Track
Survival 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 tracking the ambusher's tracks.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

If no one minds, Gareth will take the last 3 javelins. All other loot has been added to the undivided loot, If we Identify/appraise anything, I will update as needed.

That was all of them right?

Round 2

Damn! Gareth Mutters as he swings again.

Attack:
Melee Greatsword 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 /Damage 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth swings his sword with all of his strength, trying to drop the foe in one swing. Last thing he needs right now is to loose someone else.

Power Attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage:2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 6) + 9 = 16

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth draws his great sword and readies to attack the locals.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

G-good idea.

E-east? Gareth asks the others.

To the beach. W-we'll walk the p-perimeter to see if there are a-any vessels.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

...S-so...Are we g-going?

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

S-shall we go north?

J-J-Jask? Do you have any...Skills to t-tend to Aerys?

Brugga of Slothjaw wrote:

I don't think that exists it this party, but I will futilely try, maybe I will roll good...

G-G-Good luck Gareth gives him a tiny head bow.

Diplomacy 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17

EditThats it... whenever he needs to roll a diplomacy check, all he is going to do is say good luck and give a little head bow! :)

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth has prepared himself and is ready to go, hopefully the others are too.

If it seems that the party is not going to go on the scout he will find something else to do at camp.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Tranz's equipment has been added to the undivided loot (sorry Tranz) Click Gareth in the face and go to the bottom spoiler to take a look.
We may want to divide some of the loot up (like healing potions for one) pretty soon.

Hopefully Gareth's little stutter speech helps more than it hinders the npc's attitudes and morale, but Gareth is a bit agitated from loosing Tranz.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth picks up the phoenix feather quill, studies it, and again looks in the direction that Tranz was spirited away.

I will do everything in my power to insure that you will write with this pen again. Mark my words, friend!

Gareth puts the quill in his pocket and quickly loads the rest of Tranz's gear wherever he can fit with the other items. He then looks over at Aerys...I-I'm not sure i-if this will help but... gareth takes a clean pecie of cloth and wipes some of the sweat off of her face. r-rest
heal check for Aerys: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

While tending to Aerys, Gareth thinks to himself. Tranz is gone, m-maybe even dead. And now this lady is sick...This does not bode well...

Gareth stands up from Areys and speaks to the entire camp...
W-with A-aerys in her c-condition I'm not sure i-if we can move her, but we cannot just sit around and w-waste away, we need to explorer and see if we can find c-civilization, help or some other means off this island. I-I think me and the others w-who regained the supplies from the ship should scout around. E-everyone else... AND I MEAN EVERYONE... Gareth glares at those who were unwilling to help the previous day and continues speaking in a very calm tone. ...should stay here and guard the camp, hunt for food and medicine, a-and take care of the weak. If you d-don't want to pull your weight then leave, but if you r-remember last night, I don't recommend it... Gareth's tone switches to a much more sympathetic one. W-were all in this together... I-if we all work together, I-I think we can make it out of here and get back home, h-healthy and a-alive!...

Gareth turns and prepares to venture out into the wilderness...

Not sure if any of the above garners any diplomacy checks (or intimidate checks...)If it does, feel free to roll them and use my stats.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

I Agree, maybe we can get a new wind in the game starting with the new day...

...Accidentally double posted somehow...?

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Agreed

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Tranz! Gareth tries firing a few shots after the creature holding tranz.

Gareth turns to the group, We have to save him!

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

I guess I start my watch? or is the night over?

In the morning, in reply to Tariro:
I-I am quite interested in-in taking a look a-about the Island too. Gareth stands up and addresses the group. A-any-ahh...W-who w-wants to c-come a-along? ...W-with us?

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth is up for any shift as well, but not sure when he will arrive back from his scouting mission.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth turns back to the group as soon at it starts to rain.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

If there is enough food Gareth scouts the area ahead, further into the island. If there is not enough food he hunts instead.

If he finds anything worth noting he observes and listens for a short bit and reports back to camp.

Gareth will attempt to be stealthy the entire time. Go ahead an roll the appropriate skill checks since I don't know how many I need to make, if any.

Gareth turns his head to the nearest npc he has yet to talk to, but his eyes are glued to the floor.

"Aye. I've got a few stories." he states and launches into a rather bawdy tale of a marooned pirate and a young lady of gentle birth left on an island which had nothing on it but a load of rum.

Gareth listens quietly but attentively. After Gelik has finished speaking he asks questions such as: H-how c-could she survive if all t-there was was rum?

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth notice's everyone shaken attitude and tries to make them feel better, despite his usual passiveness.

Heh! Never said I didn't have any interest in the NPCs, just Brugga. She needs somebody brave enough to try to explain it to her!

Yeah and Gareth is not the most out going person either. He'd sooner keep his mouth shut than draw these human's attention to him. Although if asked by someone he likes he would diffidently make an attempt.

Do you continue to hunt or work through the hottest part off the day?

I return to camp, most game would probably be out in the cooler times anyway.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Let me know when Gareth makes it back to the others or if he runs into any snags.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

As Joao attempts to free Gareth's neck I think thats the only binding that Gareth has at the moment if I remember correctly Gareth mutters a "T-thank you," regardless of success.

Not so good with others, Gareth sets out to hunt for food and scout the area. Assuming he gets some food and returns, if the party has moved camp he will track them.

Survival 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 +1 for tracking anything
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

If you require more rolls for the hunting go ahead and make them using my stats, hopefully to speed things up if needed.

wow, what an interesting set of rolls!

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

I can if you want. I will have it in a spoiler on Gareth's page.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth carefully poses a question, speaking slowly to help prevent him from tripping over his words...Umm... Now that I... think about it...W-where did my...restraints go...? Gareth looks at his unshackled arms and feels the collar, the only piece remaining of a once very sophisticated restraint.

Gareth lifts the holy symbol he found in the captains desk up in front of his face so he can better see it.
U-umm.., Is N-Nethys a Sea god? I-I'm not to familiar with some of the m-more exotic gods...

...Umm...I'm O-okay at hunt'n and s-stuff. Much better at it than conv-conver-... conversing with people like them. Gareth loads his crossbow and keeps it in hand, ready to hunt and search the area.

While hauling gear up to the ledge, N'goka will mention to the others, The cook was bitten by a large snake, and died before dinner was served last night. Do we know of any venomous serpents aboard the ship? I noted only the pony, fox and Redstripe, who is not venomous.

Hmm... Well he was a-alive when he brought me my dinner... M-maybe he was attacked after that and before dinner... No... usually I'm fed after everyone else...When I was fed...ah-umm...The cook never brought me food perse-persa-sa-...perrr... GAH! Heneverbroughtmefoodhimselfbefore!

I am assuming that is not the case for me. or am I wrong?

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth goes to put the more valuable, or less secure items in his pack to easier transport but remembers he left his pack to lighten his load.

IDIOT!

He then leaves it to the others, and goes to the store room. Gareth attempts to determine if Tranter and the cook are truly dead, and cause of death if they are.

If they are still alive they become his priority, otherwise he takes what he can from them of value or use, and moves on to help the others with the treasure and supplies.

Tranter Heal 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Cook Heal 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Tranter search Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Cook Search Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
I think a +2 bonus on the perception checks if they are human.

WOW. With rolls like that, Gareth obviously determines that they died from implosion. He must of been hungry, cause he sure gave the cook and extra through search...

After he has finished he assists with moving the supplies.

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Gareth blushes...

...Th-th-th-th... ...No problem

Male Half Orc Ranger 1

Wait...I-I'll come with you, j-just in case there are more s-scorpions...

Gareth follows after Tariro and Tranz, loading his light crossbow and keeping an eye out as they search the rest of the ship.
